Need hints on HP printing with Leopard

Color printing with HP Office Jet L7780 is poor with Mac Pro but OK with my MacBook Pro. Using Pages '08 is terrible with Mac Pro. Two sided printing is upside down using either Mac. The printer worked beautifully with Tiger on the MacBook Pro. Any hints would be helpful. I think that changing to my new Airport extreme and new Mac Pro and leopard all at the same time causes confusion for me and the printer.

First stop is to visit www.hp.com and search for updated Leopard drivers for your HP Printer.

  • HP Photosmart 7550 printer with Leopard

I'd just like to know if there is anyone who is able to use an HP Photosmart 7550 printer with Leopard.
I can print, but the printing is all garbled.

Thank you for your help HP Mac Architect.
Print Driver from System Preferences-> Print & Fax shows HP PhotoSmart 7550 - CUPS+GutenPrint 5.1.3 . There is another version called HP PhotoSmart 7550 - GutenPrint 5.1.3 .
The same "drivers" show up under http://localhost:631 which tells me that my system is only finding the CUPS driver (I think its a PPD or Postscript Printer Definition file that works with 1 driver for all printer types).
I downloaded the HP drivers on 11/2/2007 - that file is called gutenprint05.1.3.U.dmg (Jun 19 2007). I ran Install Gutenprint 5.1.3.mkpg found on the disk image. This installed the HP PhotoSmart 7550 - CUPS + GutenPrint 5.1.3 drivers.
I also have an HP Printer Selector program from 11/2/2007. If I click the "select" button on this program, it brings me to a screen called HP Printer Utility. At the bottom of the screen it appears to specify a non-cups driver: PhotoSmart/AiO connectivity: photosmart 7550, SN:CNxxxxxx. I can print a test and a diagnostic page from this utility window. The printing is absolutely perfect from this window.
So to me it appears that there is an old photosmart driver seen from the HP Printer Selector program and there are CUPS drivers. yet System Prefs can't find this driver. Or am I wrong.....
Thanks again for trying to help

  • HP Officejet Pro L7680 All in one printer with leopard

    Greetings,
Both my girlfriend and I print from home on this nice, newer printer that works great. There were a few bugs with Leopard once we installed it, but eventually it worked perfectly (for the last month or so) with my Macbook Pro. Today however I could not print and it showed up as an active printer. I recalled that when I was stuck in the past, I deleted the printer and then added it again and it worked....however today there is no printer showing up in the boxes. When I click the "+" sign, there is nothing in any choices. I am hooked up wirelessly and have a wireless hub and wireless cable internet. Basically most anyone with a mac could walk in my home and print and I like that. Now it seems my printer has "disappeared"...I did reboot the Mac and also the printer with no luck.
Thanks in advance for any hints or tips!

  • EPSON Printing with Leopard --- Less options than in 10.4?

    Hello -
Small graphic design business -- using an EPSON 1280 for printing invoices/proofs etc...
Since updating to 10.5 we can't print with the proper paper --- selecting from the EPSON printer pulldown - under print settings -- only to "Matte paper - Heavyweight" - the option to print on Plain Paper, 360 inkjet paper, photo quality ink jet paper and others is grayed out --
We need to print on "plain paper" for invoices and can't figure it out -- also will pose problems with printing proofs for clients -- .. We have tried RE-installing EPSON 1280 print software (twice) to no avail -- ALSO --- the EPSON print untility - used to check ink levels, clean printer etc... -- does not work with LEOPARD 10.5 ---
Does anyone have a solution for this ?
    THANK YOU!

That the utility doesn't work is usually an indication that the driver being used is not Epson's proprietary driver. Try deleting and re-adding the printer using Epson's Leopard driver. That may also help with the paper choices. (There is another thread on this here somewhere.)

  • No longer printing with Leopard!!

Since upgrading to Leopard I can no longer print anything on Lexmark x5470 all-in-one, regardless of what program I am using, after asking to print the program crashes. I have reinstalled both Leopard and printer sofware, also latest drivers, but it makes no difference. It's really frustrating!!!!!

There are several posts here on problems printing with Lexmark and the IJQuality plugin. If that is the crash you are seeing, you can rename or delete that plugin. It will cause a loss of some functionality, but it won't crash. If you'd like, post the entire crash log from Console here, and we can confirm if that is what's happening.

  • Printing with Leopard

I can only print with generic drivers and with those the scan function does not work. When I select any other driver and try to print the application I am printing from is turned off and no printing occurs. This happens with Text Edit, Neo Office, and Microsoft word. I am using an HP Laserjet 3055 All in one.

    Check the website more carefully.
What I mean is that I have the same issue with my Canon MP600.
I read that an update is coming sometime this month.
If it's a matter of simply waiting, then that is what I shall advise.
If you are unable to wait and must print, you might have to downgrade back to Tiger until your update becomes available.

  • Lost all printing with Leopard a few months ago, need to fix, please help.

I think all of my printing capabilities went away a few months ago when i updated to 10.5.6. haven't been able to fix it on my own.
I have a hp 130 and a konica 6500 with a ic-304 creo. the hp is set up from a windows printer server and connected through a networked ethernet. the creo is pretty much its own print server with ip address, also available through the windows print server.
I go to add my printer, enter in the ip address, or browse, choose my driver, add printer, ect. if I am able to accomplish those tasks, then i attempt a print, only to have the que instantly stopped, and i can't get it to resume printing or to print.
for the last few months, i've been using a tiger laptop, a virtual XP on the macpro, the Xp box on the konica printer and a thin client PC to print. but I'd really like to regain print functionality on the macpro and not have to deal with windows anymore.
have tried those weird security login things that pop up when i try to resume printing: (server/username), (username/server), (guest), updating firmware, re-installed drivers.
please help, I really don't understand security, or how to make it work with printing, or bypass it entirely. i don't know how to get printing back.

well A.G., you are at least in luck, since its just the driver:

  • Printing with Leopard and Aperture?

Has anyone tried to print via Aperture after the Leopard upgrade and the Aperture 1.5.6 update? I just want to make sure my HP B9180 will still work after the install! Many thanks to the brave who have run the updates already and can provide insight for the rest of us!!!

    Fangirl-
Regarding "I am encouraged also by your ability to upgrade without doing an archive and install" I cannot state too strongly that IMO simply "migrating" to a new OS version, especially a huge evolution like OS 10.5, is a very bad idea even though it often superficially "works."
http://macfixit.com/ has pages of useful commentary that everyone should read every word of prior to installing OS 10.5, including:
In an article a few days ago, we mentioned that "For most users, a basic upgrade [where the installer merges Leopard directly with your existing files] will suffice". But that doesn't mean we recommend it. We don't. In fact, there is a school of thought that says you should never, never, never do a "basic upgrade" installation - that such an installation is, indeed, the root of all evil. Not only do you inherit a lot of old stuff that may be incompatible, but the algorithm whereby the installer "merges" your existing system with the new one is not reliable. The majority of troubles reported in MacFixIt may well stem from having done this sort of installation."
The emphases in the quote above are mine, because I strongly believe that one should never do a "basic upgrade" installation for the the reasons noted.
I have lots more commentary but the MacFixit pages are more comprehensive.
Good luck with the upgrade! Note that although I am adamant about care when udating I am not suggesting that everyone should postpone updating. I will not upgrade this week or next, but probably will update at least my laptop long before a 10.5.1 version comes out.

  • Network printing with leopard

I just installed Leopard and cannot print--either from my okidata c3400 that is connected via usb on my macbook pro or via the network to my dell 3000cn. I figure I have to wait for the oki to do a driver release, but maybe someone could tell me how to set up to network to my dell.
I can of course print when I am in the microsoft XP in bootcamp and parallels, just not directly from my mac.

    Hello,
I have a iMac G5 with a printer attached that im trying to share with a macbook downstairs. I have everything set up in 'sharing' by enabling 'printer sharing' on both computers. on the macbook i have the desired printer also set as the default.
Help? am i doing something wrong?

    am i doing something wrong?
Yep, you can only have Printer Sharing enabled on the one with the Printer connected, the MacBook will need to be rebooted after changing that on it.

  • Trouble printing with Leopard and Samsung USB laser printer

I just purchased a Samsung SCX-4200 laser printer/scanner/copier. After installing 10.5-compatible drivers from the Samsung website, I'm unable to get the printer to work. Print+Fax recognizes the printer fine and the proper driver appears in the pulldown menu so all seems good there. But every time I go to print a document (I've tried numerous apps), the job begins spooling to about 6%-8% (depending on document tried) and then I get a message in the queue window that says 'Waiting for USB printer to respond.' and the job just hangs there. The job list shows the document as printing and the Print+Fax window shows the printer as in use, but no matter what I try, this thing just won't print. I've tried restarting the computer, rebooting the printer, an older version of the drivers that came with the printer (says OS 10.3-10.4 only) and myriad other tricks, but no dice.
    Anyone have any advice? Thanks!

Well to follow up I finally heard back from Epson support...this was the response (note that it says nothing that I did not tell them already).
Thank you for taking the time to contact Epson. It is my pleasure to
respond to your inquiry. Color management is an art, make sure that only
the application or the driver is handling the management. Turn off the
management in the driver if you are allowing Photoshop or other software to
handle the color management. Also make sure when you are allowing
Photoshop to handle the color that you select the proper printer profile.
It's very hard to help with color management via email, you may want to
check some of the on-line color management websites on google.

Totally useless as I explained in detail that I had already done all of this and was very familiar with color management and the process of using it. And that it was not until the latest OS-X and Epson's driver that the problems started.

  • Using Epson DX6000 printer with leopard and timecapsule

I can print fine when i plug in the printer direct to the macbook, but not when connecting the printer direct to the timecapsule. Macbook sees it ok, and says it's printed to it but nothing happens. Tried reinstalling drivers' deleting preferences etc but no good. And like i said works fine when connected directly.
    Can anyone please advise?

That was my experience as well - the key was getting rid of the old driver.
Finally figured it out after spending literally days on this problem.
    Read this post first:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5862672
The key for me was to totally get rid of the old epson driver. I had the Epson Stylus Photo R2400 - GutenPrint v5.1.3 driver. It produced horrible washed out results. Photoshop could see the printer, and actually printed images, but they looked washed out. After replacing all the inks, and running numerous test prints - after switching it to my windows machine and back, I finally got it working. Follow the instructions on the post listed above. The part where they have you "repair permissions" did not complete for me. Something happened and the process just aborted. Why that happened I do not know. Once the old drivers were off, I went into system preferences/print & fax. I plugged the printer back in. I added it with the newly downloaded and installed driver from Epson. When I could select which driver to use I DID NOT USE the GutenPrint driver. This time I was prompted to use an Epson SP R2400 driver. I printed a test page - all looked ok. I fired up Photoshop, and voila - my gorgeous prints on my fantastic Epson R2400 are back. Man I was a real unhappy camper for the past 7 days. So I am back in business.
Good luck - hope it helps.

  • Lexmark C522 and printing with Leopard

    Hello --
I have a new 24" Mac which came with Mac OS 10.4 and an upgrade to 10.5 I set it up and everything was hunkydory. I then implemented the upgrade and my ability to print fell apart.
I print on a Lexmark C522 through a LAN. Systems Preferences sees the printer as a Bonjour printer, allows me to select it as the preferred printer, and then configures the options. However, when I send something to print, it goes into the spin cycle stating that it cannot connect to the printer and that it will try again in 30 seconds.
This was driving me nuts but I just discovered that I can trigger the printing by putting my computer to sleep and then waking it up.
Augghhh!!! Will I always have to do this?
    Thanks,
    MNIce
p.s. I have reinstalled the printer driver to no avail.
p.p.s. We have an old AppleTalk network here and can print through that, though it is slower than molasses.
p.p.p.s. I have the same trouble if I try to print through the printer's IP address.

Well to follow up I finally heard back from Epson support...this was the response (note that it says nothing that I did not tell them already).

  • Printing problems with Leopard

Using Macbook pro and loaded Leopard. Using Airpot network and Xerox Phaser 4500DT. With Leopard I can't print documents - the printer goes into self-test mode when I send a Word/Excel doc and then freezes. Document needs to be deleted from printer queue and then printed again. Anyone else having problems printing with Leopard? Mac Support argues that Xerox need to develop new rinter driver for Leopard.

I think i figured it out ... Apple has intentionally disabled printing because this is a way to control the manufacturers who stole laser printing and ink jet printing technology and started mass producing these items—filling stores with clones of clones. Did you notice Apple stopped making printers a decade ago?
Its either that or this is a simulation to control the market when paper shortages become a reality. All our computers will be disabled immediately via a meta bot that activates wirelessly with your computer even if you don't even connect to the internet.
Pretty Cool Eh ! I just made that up now.

  • Problems print with Canon i850/ which driver?

Ever since I installed Leopard, I have had printing problems with the color on my Canon i850 printer. Usually this has to do with magenta. If cleaned the printer, etc., and didn't have this problem in Tiger. Sometimes magenta will print in some colors, like purple, but sometimes it will print red, or will print red as green. I looked under System Preferences and there are two printers, an i850 and an i850 Gutenprint...which one should I be using? I am using the i850. Why is it that if I have red in a document, one place it may print and another it won't and the same red is selected? Also, where is the printer driver stored? Anyone also have any ideas on a great printer with Leopard? I do mostly black and white, but do color for pictures, not a huge amount, Xmas letters, etc. Just want a reliable, economical printer that the ink isn't outrageous, or is color laser the best? Any ideas or help will be appreciated! Thanks.

The printing of red as green doesn't sound right. Green is made from cyan and yellow. Red is made from magenta and yellow. So to get green instead of red doesn't sound like a cartridge/print head is faulty, which is sometimes the case for these types of problems. It sounds like you either have a driver problem or a colour management issue.
The i850 driver you are using is the Canon supplied version. Since this is giving you trouble, then I would try the Gutenprint version. If that still causes colour issues, then the colour management is most likely at fault. Did you upgrade from Tiger or do a fresh install?
As for the driver location, have a look at ./Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinters for the Canon driver. Will need to check the Gutenprint location (I'm at home on Tiger). Maybe someone else can chip in...
Re the new printer, I can vouch for the Canon iP5300. It has a large black tank for text printing and separate C M Y K tanks for photos.
Colour laser gives better text printing, but the photos aren't as good. Also, the purchase price is often more, although the toner cartridges have higher yields than ink. Have a look at this link
