Need honest opinion :)

Hey guys need some honest opinions here. I want to get 2 of the MSI lightning 7970's. Well I was also looking @ the powercolor HD 7970 vortex ll it has a nice core clock of 1100MHZ and 1425 memory. The msi lightning has 1070 mhz and 1400MHZ, now according to actual MHZ specs the powercolor is faster, but we all know the MSI is faster. Well I can get the powercolor for almost $100 cheaper its $399 vs $489 MSI. I need a new case and buy going with the power color I can get the one i want because I save almost $200.00, if I go with the MSI it will be a while beofer i can get the case I want but I really do need one know, I currently use a alienware aurora R3 and cards will be sandwhiched to tight, so i really need a case. What are your guys thoughs of the powercolor vortex card?

This is a MSI forum and we can't discuss or recommend products competing with MSI products anyway.
The MSI Radeon 7970 Lightning is a great card. It features a way advanced custom MSI PCB with the unique GPU reactor (an add-on PCB that holds additional tantalum capacitors, which helps providing power for the GPU in extreme situations). It also offers the unique triple overvolting feature when using MSI Afterburner.
The Lightning would therefor be a perfect choice after all.

  • I need an honest opinion on whether or not to buy a macbook now

Here's the deal-- I'm going to college in 4 weeks. I was really looking forward to finally buying a new computer-- my first laptop, my first Mac. I've been following developments in the Macbook line, reading these forums on and off, and I would like your honest opinion: should I buy a Macbook in the next two weeks or so, or do you think that it has too many problems to warrant paying 1500+ dollars?
I'm also going to college in a rather rural location, pretty far away from an Apple Store, so if problems do crop up, I would be basically relying on phone tech support.
My main worry are these reports of Macbooks shutting down without warning. I intend to use this computer for everything, including writing papers, and just the thought of my computer shutting down like that gets me frustrated.
So, do you think Apple has been working to fix these problems that people have been reporting? If you've recently bought a Macbook, are you happy with it? Should I go for this product, or wait until next summer or this Christmas, whenever they release the second generation? (Does anyone have any idea when that will happen, from past product release cycles?)
    Thank you for your advice.

    Hi there!
I just recently bought my first mac, a white Macbook 2.0 Ghz. I am one of those unfortunate souls who happened to get a mac which turns yellow due to sweet...you can imagine how ****** I was when I noticed the discoloration and read about the problem on these forums. Taking into consideration the money I paid, the problem I am facing, and the fact that its my first mac, I think you can accept my opinion as honest.
I say go for it. Even with the unsolved problem I have at the moment I love my mac. Its extremly practical, so easy to use and ever since I got the nack of it I've been encouraging all my friends to switch. When I purchased I was thinking of maybe selling it if I don't like it or getting windows, but I did neither. How long did it take to get the nack of it? I called a friend after I purchased and asked him to give me some tips. He said the most important is "always think of an easier solution, then in windows". He was so right Once i sat over a problem I had for 30 minutes trying to figure out what to do. Finally I searched these forums and than beat myself with a blunt object when I realized how simple it would have been to do what I was trying to. My friends make fun of me and say I praise mac so much I should work at their PR office.
I wouldn't worry about not being close to a store, because as many people mention on these forums also, using phone assistance is often better. Unless your talking to a genious, people in the store say the stupidest things sometimes...I am going to get my discoloration problem solved over the phone also, its much quicker than talking it to a store, even though I am in NY!
The only reason I think you may want to wait, is because supposedly the new os is coming out in august and you may want to get a mac with the new software, if its only a matter of weeks, but gets some info on that from others, cause I am not sure about the exact release date etc.
    Hope all goes well
    All the best
    Rob

  • Honest opinion on the iphone

due to this new "price drop" im considering getting an iphone. im a student and couldnt get myself to spend $600 on a phone but now its a little more manageable. i cant really comprehend what the iphone actually has wrong with it. it seems like the people who talk bad about it are the people who dont have one. i need to know the truth about what works and what doesnt. i have a mac so i dont have to deal with that crappy windows corresponding junk.
i just wanna know from people that actually have one. i hear about all these "problems" and it makes me a little weary. ive been to the store and played with the phone many times and it seems really amazing.
so i guess the real question is... is it worth it???
and when you are texting can you turn the phone and have the keyboard horizontal while composing texts??

Definitely not worth the old price! And probably now, definitely worth the reduced price. Beautiful phone, Amazing interface; fun stops there. You are restricted to ATT and ATT is hit and miss; clear and crackly, in and out regardlesss of bars. Edge is slow. Synching is problamatic (windows/Outlook), the "real internet" lacks Flash and other real internet technologies, No games unless you have internet access, No IM, No MMS, No local storage, smartphone portion of device lacks smartphone features and conveniences, phone needs to be reset frequently, locks up quite a bit when trying to answer calls with BT headset, build quality looks great but case is separating from bezel, slippery to hold and extremely expensive to repair, no removeable battery, too many clicks (button presses) to access standard features like phone. You asked for an Honest opinion. My recommendation is to wait for the 2 iPhone rumored to be out this fall, or for the 2nd Generation iPhone. It is a cool phone, but bragging rights are gone, and fixes are slow to come. They've got an 8 cylinder hitting on 6. If you just need a phone, don't want smartphone features, and you have a lot of money, then go ahead and get it. If you need smartphone features then I'd say get something else and don't look back. My recommendation would be to get a much cheaper phone and buy the new iPod Touch. I think you'd get a lot more utility with that combo.
I know this won't be a popular post, but he did ask for an honest opinion, and this is mine. Flame me if you wish, but we all have our own perspectives, mine is just one of them. And yes, I did my homework, I do like the phone, but can find no way to justify the cost of it, the speed of patching, and the customer service.

  • Need the opinion of experts: N85 with Bluetooth pr...

Really need the opinion of experts on this one.
My N85 was swapped after the complaint that the Music Library Menu opened automatically after pairing with bluetooth of the car (permanent failure). Another complaint was that video recording was defective (intermittent failure). Also, Nokia detected great consumption of battery.
My question is: the swap came back the same relating to the bluetooth problem.. Is this a case of bad repair or a case of low knowledge...? I'm wondering if the Music Library Menu is to open when pairing with car bluetooth (strangely)....

The Dell Precision 380 has 3 PCIe slots: a x16 (for video cards), a x1,
and a x4.  I'm sure there are other PCs on the market with
    multiple PCIe slots.
Alternatively, the PCIe-8362 has TWO cabled PCI Express links.  So
you only need one slot in your host PC.  This may not be the best
solution, however, if bandwidth is your primary concern.  With one
8362 connected to two chassis, the total maximum throughput is 160
MB/s.  With two 8361s (each connected to a different chassis), the
total maximum throughput is 220 MB/s (110 MB/s on each).
Finally, keep in mind that the PXI chassis in your system are still
running at PCI speeds (132 MB/s).  Plus, this bandwidth is shared
across all devices in the system.  So the MXI Express connection
to the chassis may not be the bottleneck in the system.
    Good luck!

  • Buying a Macbook pro for the first time and i need your opinion

Hello everyone! I'm buying a Macbook pro for the first time and i need your opinion. I'm a Web Developer / Graphic Designer, and i need this macbook for my work. Currently i have these 2 options:
    1) Macbook Pro with Retina (13")
    128GB SSD, 2.5GHz Intel i5 Processor, 8GB Ram
    2) Macbook Pro i7 (15")
    Intel  i7 2.6 Processor, 8GB Ram, 750GB HD
So my dilema is. Do i go for the newest 13" Macbook Pro Retina & SSD drive or do i go for the 15" Macbook Pro i7 non-Retina, non-SSD hard drive?

    Your 2nd choice
    2) Macbook Pro i7 (15")
    Intel  i7 2.6 Processor, 8GB Ram, 750GB HD
is user upgradable. The Retina is not.
No matter what for your needs I would max out the 16GB of RAM

  • I need someones honest opinion about my classe's lab final

hello, my name is Professor John Mane, i am teaching AP java in a high school and would like to know if anyone thinks that this would be good for the lab final- i would like to know if anyone can do it and if can, how long it takes you to do it,
    thank you
Write a class whose ultimate purpose is to either sum al the numbers or take the product of all numbers between 2 limits, skipping numbers, if desired, at regular intervals. The user is given the opportunity to specify the operation (sum or multiply), the limits (either decreasing to increasing or increasing to decreasing), and the skip interval (for example the user wants to sum every third number between 2 and 9 = 2 + 5 + 8 = 15). The user is also given the option to either add or multiply this calculated value to the previously calculated result. At the conclusion of the operation, the user is asked if (s)he wants to continue or to terminate the program. If continue is the option, the whole process begins again.
There will be a test program whose only job will be to create an object which is an instance of this class and to print out job completed x times (where x indicates the number of calculations performed) after the user elects to terminate. It is required that the class have a constructor, a public method to process input and control the flow of execution from the users point of view, and non public methods to do the calculation and print out the results (when invoking a method from within a class, no object or class needs to be provided; just supply the name of the method).
I plan to begin grading on december 30th, so i would like to know if anyone out there can do this- and if can please send me the finished project- my email is [email protected]

bsampieri: yes, it's a ploy. Even assuming a teacher had decided to wait until this late in the semester to come up with an assignment, do you really think they would've decided on when they wanted to start grading it rather than, you know, when they would assign it?
Also, who introduces themselves as "my name is Professor John Mane"? For that matter, why would someone with the title "professor" be teaching an "AP Java" (high school) class?
And isn't "AP Java" really "AP Computer Science"? This doesn't really prove he or she isn't a professor as much as it proves that he or she is a dolt who doesn't even know the name of the class.
Let's see, there's also the aforementioned fact that "send me the finished project" is inconsistent with the desire to see "if it's a good lab final". If he or she is really a professor, they should have no problem actually doing it themselves. And if they can't do it themselves, they really shouldn't be assigning it to kids just learning the language.
I'd add that teachers wouldn't tend to give an assignment like this due over the holidays, but apparently this guy's teacher is enough of an arse to do that very thing. Unless the OP is giving themselves enough time to customize the code so that a google search for it won't find this thread.
I sincerely hope no one answers this jackanape, so that he or she will have wasted all the time coming up with this elaborate scheme and still fail his or her assignment.

  • I need an opinion, now that I have a 500GB TC...I hope someone reads this

So originally I asked for just a plain ole external hard drive for Christmas for my 3 year old PowerBook G4 laptop. Then I started doing some research, cuz I kinda realized I wanted something wireless so that I didn't have to go through the hassle of unplugging it every time I needed to take my laptop away from my house. Currently this is how I run things....I have lots of music and that's what's taking up the majority of my internal HD space. I do a little freelance design and am also a photographer. I have, for the time being, a small external hard drive that holds my files (design work, photos, etc). I have very little files that I update on my internal HD (like I said, it's mainly music). I have an iPod that most of the music on my laptop is on (I don't keep it synced, honestly that's not really a worry for me). So when I started looking into my options, I read about the Time Capsule. Of course the opinions on the Apple Store site were mixed, but it still sounded good, so I asked for one and got it. I like that it worked wirelessly, worked with Time Machine (which has gone unused since I upgraded to Leopard last Christmas), and according to Apple I could also use it as an external HD. Now that I am reading the TC forum (after having initial problems with the TC, which required the TC to be exchanged for a new one on Monday) I really do not know what to do with it. I am reading that if you do use it as both a backup system AND external HD it gets a little "tempermental." Some people have lost all backups and files due to inexplicable disc errors and such. I have read that you can hook up an external HD through USB to the TC and access it wirelessly and put your iTunes library and music on that external HD, but then it won't be backed up. Like I said at this time, I work on files by getting the files I work on off of my small external (which is filing up fast) work on them, and then save them back on the external....Ok now I'm rambling a bit...My question is
Should I just use the TC as an external HD or use it to back up and get another external HD to connect to that....Then I can't attach a printer to the TC via USB....AHHHH too many options...What would you do??

Just thought I'd throw my thoughts into the mix, although essentially I agree with VA2020. I have similar requirements for my set up: I have a laptop, which I keep my current working files on and therefore want to have backed up regularly (by Time Machine). However, I also want to be able to play my iTunes library at home, from wherever I happen to be. So I have a Time Capsule for backing up, with an external 500GB HDD (connected to that via USB) which I use as a music and image server. I also got a wireless combo-printer to take that issue out of the equation; and to make sure my music/images are backed up, I actually use the free Back Up software you get with a MobileMe account, scheduled to back up at suitable intervals via firewire to yet another 500GB HDD (these back ups are weekly/monthly, so it's not a big deal to hook up the laptop just at those times).
I am also planning to use SuperDuper to backup the entire laptop system (I leave out apps, system files etc from the TM back ups so it's quicker) so I can restore in case of a total OS failure. This might seem like overkill, but this way I would have everything backed up, but with the ability to pick and choose what I want to recover. And although it seems complicated, once set up and scheduled, it all works with very little thought on my part. I admit TC has many glitches, but I still love the wireless backup.

  • Need comments/opinion

Need some comments/opinion regarding essbase implementation:1. our prospect client wants to analyze/report their financial statement using their G/L system (they use Platinum software). And they want it in such detail level as their g/l account / chart of account. Is it normal/usual?2. Beside G/L, they want to analyze their a/p and a/r too. So i guess i should create 3 database, 1. for the G/L (with detail account), 2. For the A/P based on their A/P module and 3. for the A/R based on their A/R module. Is that right?3. If the client wants to implement essbase (for analysis) and planning, should we separate the process of implementation into stages. First stage is Essbase and then second stage is the planning.Any comments/opinion will be appreciated. Thanks you very much.Indra

Typically:1. Financial Consoldiation cube - G/L2. Cashflow cube - A/P & A/RIt all depends on the type of analysis your client is interested.Usually you will want A/P and A/Rtogether to analyze cashflow.Start with cube 1.The dimensions in cube 2. willthen be similar to cube 1. except forthe accounts setup.Hope this helps.

  • Need an opinion please

I am learning asc3 and loving it. I just ran into a problem
as i tried to do a tutorial recently of where cards flip over and
load random card design on them.
i constantly get this error. if someone can please verify my
work and opinion and tell me where i made the mistake. I dont
believe its in the code but the placement of the graphics but i
need confirmation on it and also on where the error is:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of
    a null object reference.
    at Card/settype()
    at Memory/CardLoader()
    at Memory()
PLEASE GO HERE TO GET ATTACHMENT OF MY FILES THAT I DID:
    http://www.actionscript.org/forums/showthread.php3?t=190078
    Thank you

The error message answers that for you... it tells you when
your code isn't working. Hopefully you'll remember that particular
error message from here on out because it is common and always
    means the same thing.
So if you go back to kGlad's original reply, the problem was
identified there--in more translatable form. He would definitely
have pinpointed the problem had you described how the Card was
configured--I consider him a true expert (not myself... I learn
thru the postings of others in these forums--lots of opportunities
that my own work doesn't present).
It is always helpful when people provide not only the code
they use, but also the details of the how the pieces involved are
assembled. Fair warning though... if you end up showing a mile of
code you're less likely to get any help. Many of us that try to
help prefer to have things narrowed down and to see that someone
has actually done something to try to resolve matters ahead of
posting. People that simply say "this isn't working" or "how do I
design this", which is common, are likely to get a replies in the
vain of "what have you tried" or "learn how." Try spending a few
days helping people out here and you'll probably come to understand
    why.

    I've been asked to update

That isn't me. I can't really apologize for something someone

Since I haven't criticized you or your web sites at all, I

Here's what I said was childish: you running an un-asked-for

  • Okay. I want your *honest* opinion

Once upon a time, I needed an MP3 player so I decided to get one at Wal-Mart. It was the Creative Zen Micro and it was almost 200 hundred dollars. This player brought me much joy throughout but eventually, it stopped wanting to connect to the computer 8 out of 0 times. Now it still works and you can play music on it and stuff but this had me fed up. Flash forward a year, a month and some odd days and I decide that it's time for a new MP3 player. I surf the web, going to Wal-Mart's website and voila! I find a Creative Zen Vision: M and it's only 200 dollars! Considering that my 5 gig Zen Micro was almost that much I felt that I'd be getting a deal with this 30 gig player that also plays videos!?Flash forward some odd days. This player acts up just like the Micro did; it doesn't want to connect when I want it to. Maybe about 7 out of 0 times it connects. Even worse, one day it decided to freeze on me and I had to reset it. It took me to Recovery Mode where I saw 4 options:?Clean UpFormat AllReload FirmwareReboot?I tried to Clean Up, but nothing. I Reboot several times only for the player to come back to Recovery Mode. It's been in this stage for almost 3 days now. Some would say I need new firmware (which is probably true) but how can I get that if the player doesn't connect to the computer at all? It doesn't even recognize it. I've tried many, MANY different things including today, I tried following the directions to get it to be recognized but to no avail. The question is this: Do I say 3rd time is the charm and fork over another 200 bucks for one more Creative Zen Vision or do I pay the extra 50 bucks and get a white iPod Video? My brother has used Apple iPods all his life and aside from him smashing the screen on one, his has worked fine. But to be perfectly honest, I don't want to get an iPod that much; I find that Creative's Zen Vision: M is one of the most attracti've players that I've ever seen. Mine is a light blue and while it worked, I was in Heaven (and I don't even believe in God:P)!?Now I'm just pissed. What would you do?!

Well, first step, when did you buy the Vision? If it was less than a year ago, you could likely get it repaired cheaper than you can buy a new one. In this case, you may wish to contact Customer Support and see what options you have available.

  • Need Expert Opinion on 3D LED TVs

Hi, I'm a movie critic for a local magazine in the city.  My new assignment is to critique about 50 movies in a two week period, all 3D movies.  I've heard about the amount of strain on the eyes from long sessions.  Are there any 3D LED TV's that cause little to no strain on the eyes?

theres a bit of misinformation here.  In the traditional sense, yes, the Cinema 3D TV's are technically Full HD (1080p resolution), but you are still only seeing 540 lines of resolution for each eye.  Yes, all of the pixels are active simultaneously, but the image you are seeing for each eye doesn't even meet "Enhanced Definition" standards, let alone HD standards.  Active shutter 3D, on the other hand, Outputs 1080p Resolution to each eye.  Active shutter technology gives a significant improvement to the image detail.
The only benefit of passive shutter 3D technology is the cost of the glasses.  When compared to a Plasma TV however, which are not only cheaper, but provide better 3d performance (Active Shutter, less crosstalk, no motion issues, better PQ, higher resolution, etc.), you'll find that it's a much better deal.  You'll probably even save money, and end up with greater performance for both 2D and 3D.
As a movie critic, I assume you need to be giving people the best/most accurate review possible.  This means moving up to a larger size television (55" at the very smallest), and picking up a set with at least decent quality.  I've watched 3D on 90% of the 2012 3D televisions on the market, and you'll find that some of it comes down to personal preference and changing settings within the television to adjust comfort level. When it comes to 3D, larger is better, and you will find your self wishing you picked up a larger TV.  (With a 65VT30, I still find myself edging the couch much closer to the TV)
Quick question, are these reviews focused more on the movie content? or picture quality/3D quality? The answer to those questions will give the best indication on which TV is the best option for you.
Out of all of the TV's I've watched, I've found the Panasonic plasma TV's to have the least amount of fatigue (aside from the inferior passive shutter LG LED TV's).  You can reduce fatigue even further by making adjustments to the 3D depth.  Active shutter LED TV's will be slightly more fatiguing due to flicker and motion judder (with the exception of top of the line models from Samsung or Sony).  Samsung plasmas are slightly more fatiguing than the panasonics, but the difference is subtle.  My TV recommendation would be a Panasonic 60ST30, which has one of the best price/performance ratios of any 2012 TV.  If you insist on getting an LED TV, I would recommend a UN60D8000, which will give you the best 3D performance (on par with or greater than plasma 3D performance), but you'll find yourself in a much higher price bracket (money better spent towards a PN64D8000 or 65GT30/VT30 plasma TV).
Again, some of what I've said is subjective, but i've given my opinion.  If you can narrow it down to a couple of models, then head into your local best buy and pick your favorite.

  • Need advice/opinion on disk repair

My computer crashed...twice. Upon the advice...and help...of Apple, I did a complete reinstall of my harddrive. It seems to be working well now, but when I run Disk Utility, I get the following message:
A few lines of that just say 'checking' this and that
The last line says, "The volume MacIntosh HD appears to be okay."
Then in bold, it says, Repair attempted on 1 volume.
Then in red, it says 'HFS Volume repaired."
Apple tells me that it should NOT continue to say the repair has been attempted and repaired. That really means there is still something wrong. The only message that means everything is okay is "The volume MacIntosh HD appears to be okay." I have run disk utility a number of times, I continue to get the same message, even though I theoretically have a new HD.
I then ran Disk Warrior. It corrected a bunch of things with iMovie, and now I'm getting a clear report. Disk Utility however still gives the same message that Apple says indicates something is wrong.
Yesterday we put in new memory and checked the capacitor. There was only one that we could see (someone said there were two), but there was no cracking or leaking.
My question: Is there something wrong? Restored hard drive, computer seems to be running well, Disk Warrior corrected everything and gives a clean report, capacitor seems okay, but Disk Utility continues with the strange message that Apple says may indicate a problem. Is there cause to worry? Should I do anything else?
Thanks for the help! You people are fabulous; I am so grateful for this board.
Oh, yes, my eMac is almost two years old. I have Panther still.

I'd put a lot more trust in Disk Warrior than in the Panther version of Disk Utility, so as long as Disk Warrior is giving you a clean bill of health, you shouldn't need to worry and can just blame it on some garbled Disk Utility setting. As a WAG, it might help to open Applications> Utilities> Console, View all logs, select ~/Library/Logs/DiskUtility.log, and delete that, then see what re-running Disk Utility> Verify Disk shows.

  • Need expertise opinion on ADF custom BackEnd implementation

    Hi all,
Jdeveloepr version: Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.5.0.
I am working on an ADF application and trying to go with the following implementations which are currently working fine while unit testing (me alone- single user) . I would like to have a expert opinion as whether this would be a scalable solution for an application which will support multiple users simultaneously . I am very new to ADF framework , so please advice
-The page are mostly inside bounded taskflows, which are nested and having backing beans are different scope. The backing bean is talking to a service layer (java classes ) to call the Webservice layer few database tables and then integrate and process the data to be shown on the front end.
(we have decided to opt out of drag and drop technique in ADF, due to some UI design reasons and large Webservice calls, though it is possible as mentioned by some experts)
The questions are based on the Database interaction, we have created an appmodule which has several VOs abased on entity objects and accessing them programmatically from the service layer like
    1. Get the appmoduleDatacontrol via the id name in Databindings.cpx and get corresponding VO implementation classes to invoke custom methods written inside. How good would be the connection pooling and state management of the application modue in production environments.
    2. for insertion - we call createROW on VO implementation and call an commit on the row implementation classes after adding detials to the new row.
    3. for select op- we create filter criteria on the view and apply them programmatically to get the rows.
    4. for update- get the row using the filters VO and manipulate the row using RowImpl classes and do a commit on then. (a commit on VO or commit on RowImpl, which would be better?)
Any pointers to tutorials/Blogs related optimizing and testing this implemtnation to this would be really helpful.
    Thanks,
