Need ideas/help on iphone purchase

purchased iphone for wife to use in conjunction with her mac/book. hook it up to sync and her mac book i osx 10.3.9. what is my most economical way to get
her iphone to work? am i going to have to purchase a new macbok just to get the iphone to work?

The iPhone requires OS 10.4.10 to work... at the very least, you're going to need to upgrade to Tiger (OS 10.4), and Leopard (10.5) would probably be better.

Anyone on this forum can correct me if I am wrong. I am not judging you, but to my knowledge the iTunes error 1600 usually affects products that are jailbroken. again I am not saying that your iPhone 3GS was jailbroken. my only advise off the top of my head to assist you is to download the recent IOS firmware online. I know it is not the the #1 advised option, but it is the only option you have unless you wish to bring it to the Apple Genius bar and see if they can replace the phone or fix it themselves.

Plug it into a wall outlet for at least 20 minutes, then try doing a reset by pressing and holding the Home and Power button for 20 seconds.

Need Desperate Help Regarding iPhone 4 Sync Issue (PC, Win7)

I'll attempt to make this question as concise and fully informative as possible. I have an iPhone 4 Jailbroken running firmware v4.3.3. I typically sync my phone with my PC on a normal basis until this past October I bought a new SSD and had to re-install iTunes on my C drive. As you know, a re-install means that any re-sync with a fresh iTunes install means that the phone will basically wiped clean. Since the new iTunes install I have regularly been "Backing Up" the iPhone,(but never synced it) however this is not a "Sync" of course, but I figure it still beneficial to do. I believe I have the following options and/or issues to deal with:
1) Is there any way to "reverse-sync" the iPhone to the PC, instead of the other way around? I kept the old iTunes operating files but I am not sure which ones I'd need to copy over to which folder to make a "current" sync happen, or to "fool" iTunes into thinking nothing has changed since the fresh install.
2) I realize a "restore" will erase the jailbreak, but what if I choose "Restore From Backup", will that also erase or reset the jailbreak?
3) I am mainly concerned with calendar appointments, my apps with invaluable information, and notes. Everything else such as music I can simply re-sync if I have to.
In essence, I am trying to do a up-to-date sync with the new iTunes install and loose as little data and information as possible (or none at all). I have apps installed such as iFile that hold many files within the folder tree structure of the phone that I cannot afford to loose. I'd be willing to make backup copies of all these files if there is a viable solution for me, which Im hoping somebody can recommend to me.
If there is a special app or PC app that I need to make things run smoother or achieve my goal I am more than happy to install whatever it takes. Thank you for any responses, they are most appreciated.

No!!!!! iTunes Store content (apps, music, media) is synced to and from iTunes - it's not in the backup. If you never synced your phone with this computer before, the first sync is unidirectional from the computer to phone. If there's nothing in the iTunes library now, what's in your phone will get deleted. In this case, you have to first "Transfer Purchases" To do this:
1. Be sure that automatic syncing on connection is disabled in iTunes Prefs > Devices > Disable.....
2. Connect phone with iTunes open.
3. Right-click the device tab on left border of iTunes window.
4. Select "Transfer Purchases." Note that any music/media on the phone that was not originally obtained from the iTunes Store will not transfer to the computer.
It's now safe to sync the phone. Note that when you select "Sync" on the iTunes page, the phone is typically backed up as well, if you didn't set it up to backup to iCloud instead.

Need IDE help for Xcode 4.1

Hi all,
Not sure where to ask this question but out of all the choices I chose this area.
I am trying to learn to program the mac starting out with the basics of C. I got a hold of a book, "Learn C on the Mac" by Dave Mark. It's a great book but unfortuantely, it explains from the perspective of xcode 3.1. The IDE is way different than the latest that I'm currently running for Lion OS. Until I know how to utilize the IDE from xcode 4.1, I can't get off the ground trying to learn the basics of C!
The first thing I'm prompted once I invoke xcode 4.1:

Type: C(is one of the options)
Can anyone who has code experience and understands 4.1 IDE, explain what I need to enter into these fields just to get the c programming done, i.e., print "hellow world!". Thanks.

Apple update Xcode far more frequently than book authors can write new editions. Saying that there are now some XCode 4 books out but probably not yet any XCode 4.1 specific ones.

I can understand your situation, do the following things first.
1. File a Police Report

File a report with the police in the city where the phone was stolen. This may or may not directly lead to the recovery of your phone, but having documentation of the theft may help in dealing with cell phone and insurance companies and, if you can get data about the location of your phone, having the police report on file may be necessary for getting the police to help you recover it.
2. Call Your Cell Phone Company
Making this the second step in the process. Some cell phone company representatives may be more inclined to take action when you've got a police report, others may act right away without one. Calling your cell phone company to report the theft and have the account tied to the phone suspended or canceled will help ensure that you're not stuck paying for charges incurred by the thief. Try tracking the phone first, though, since cancelled service could make tracking it hard.
3. If you have Setup iCloud on your iPhone
Login to https://www.icloud.com/ with the same Apple Id & password that you have configured on your lost iPhone and see if you can find all your Contacts there ( you will only find the contacts on iCloud if you have setup iCloud Account on your iPhone and had taken a backup on iCloud before)
On the same page you can also track the location of your iPhone if you have Find My iPhone Enabled on your iPhone earlier, and if your iPhone is connected to any Internet connection (Wifi/Cellular) you can see the last location and inform the same to the Cops.

Help on iphone purchase please

I am thinking about buying an iphone and I have been reviewing for about 2 weeks now and I have read just about every good and bad review I could find. I think that it has what I need as far as functionality especially since we don't have 3g in my area, but I cannot find any true honest opinions about actual call quality I know people that have some of the defective units probably have poor call/signal quality but how about those of you that have non problamatic units is the reception strong in a moderate to strong att area and are you able to hold the signal, no dropped calls, people sound clear and loud, etc. And on a similar note I have noticed that a lot of people appear to have problamatic units, is this due to using third party software? or maybe they have some of the first batch of phones? I'm hoping that a large majority of the community are enjoying trouble free phones. Please share your experiences with me as I am going to decide by friday. Thank you.

My phone is trouble free. I shouldn't say that the phone does have a habit of having the play symbol come on while I am surfing the net. It is small problem that I can live with. The actual phone is good with the exception that the ringer and speaker volume is not very good. The actual call quality is nice as long as you have a signal. I use the the wifi, google maps, and ipod portion way more than actually making calls. I am not a fan of bluetooth so I don't know how that works but it does lack multimedia messaging and GPS navigation. On a side not google maps has already saved my put time and time again. It is nice to just look up and call when none knows what time a store opens or what place to order food from. I would recommend buying a refurbished one from apple. You can save money and still have the same warrantee. I got the $300 4GB Iphone and it has more space than I use.

Urgent!! Need your Help! iPhone stopped working and Lock Button Not working

Lock button on phone has not been working for 6 months (me being lazy, never got it sorted). Now today, I took my phone out of my pocket and it had shut down. Black screen. Cant turn it on because button broke. doesnt respond when i plug into my computer or on charge.

Need Urgent Help! iPhone 3Gs won't detect SIM after update to ios 6.1.3

So yesterday me and my sister's phone was working fine. I decided to update both of them, and when I updated, everything was reset to factory settings. Everything is running smoothly, but our phones won't detect the SIM. Either it says "No Service" or "Invalid SIM" when I turn on Airplane Mode. Urgent, please help!

I performed a backup / full reset / erase all / restore. When the phone rebooted, it appeared to be a clean, new iPhone (unnamed, no apps, no wallpaper, etc). I restored my backup and the notification is still there. I tried doing a hard reboot (home+off buttons), still there. I will attempt one more reset / erase / restore.

Or can I just walk into the Apple Store, buy an iPhone, and set it up myself with iTunes as advertised, even though I don't have an SSN.
How do I get the credit check code?
Would you recommend buy the iPhone through AT&T?

The preapproved credit check code, I believe, is something you could get by calling AT&T now and getting set up to have an account with them that will be available when you get here. Don't quote me on that though... I am most certainly not "in-the-know" on that one.
I DO know, however, that you do not need a SSN to get an iPhone. One of the options, that can be chosen by not supplying a SSN, is the AT&T GoPhone plan. It's a little more expensive for the minutes you get (200 vs. the 450 at $50/month) but it allows you to skip the contractual obligation.
In your situation, I would recommend getting your iPhone from the AT&T store so you can do all of your account set up in person if you don't get a credit code in advance. If you can do it over the phone, as I previously suggested, go ahead and go to an Apple store because I always prefer the neat toys and friendly staff there... grin

Sync won't restore back up for you. Connect the phone to iTunes and right click on the phone from the sidebar. Select restore and choose your old phone back up

I dropped my iPhone 5c in water. I read online that the best thing to do it to power it down and place it in rice. When I tried to power it down, all that appeared on the screen was a staticy-red. My iPhone is currently sitting in a bag of rice, but what I want to know is...is it too late?

I would say yes if the display was immediately showing problems. The phone is not just wet, it has been damaged and drying it out would not make any difference. Electronics and water are never a good combination. Even if it did work for awhile corrosion usually gets to it sooner than later. On the other hand you have nothing to lose by waiting.
