Need Info on new "IPTC Core" XMP Schema

I have seen in quite a few places that there is a new "IPTC Core" XMP Schema, probably to replace the old IPTC binary structure and the various aliases scattered in other XMP schemas. This happened months ago, and details were to be released by the end of 2004, but I can't find anything anywhere.
I have about 150GB of digitized photo and I once wrote my own software to insert XMP in my TIFFs/JPEGs. I already added my own XMP schema to describe my photos in a specific way, but I'd also like to throw this information in an XMP schema that is (or at least, will be for the next 10 years or so) recognized in several applications. Most important, I'm about to archive all of that to read-only media, so I'd like to do it in a proper way once for good.
So far, it seems that IPTC is very descriptive and is what matches the more closely my own XMP schema, and don't want to have to duplicate information across several schemas such as "Photoshop" or "Dublic Core", unless that what the new "IPTC Core" is all about, but I seriously doubt it. I don't want to go with the old IPTC structure either.
After all, if there is "so many standard to choose from", that's because there isn't actualy any!
Anybody got any information of that new "IPTC Core" XMP Schema?

Emmanuel,
It's been a while since you posted your message, but here's the info in the event you haven't already found it:
http://www.iptc.org/IPTC4XMP/index.php
I just started digging into XMP a few days ago and am planning to write software to add/read info from image files for the automagic creation of web pages. I've been using Adobe's XMP SDK and would be very interested in hearing how you wrote your code.
Cheers,
Andreas

  • Need info on New Gl for a fresh implememtation

    Hello,
        Kindly give your inputs on the new gl functionality for a fresh implementation. Please provide some documentation or pros and cons of it.
    This is the senario, only one plant is being implemented for the time being, what is the possiblity of implementing the new gl at a later stage . If we activate the new gl can it be deactivated or if we activate can and not decide to use it and only uuse the regulat GL is that ok.
    kindly provide your inputs as it is urgent and have to give my suggestions soon to the client.
    points will be awarder generously.
    thanks.

    Ashwin,
    Here are my thoughts on the new GL.
    1) Parallel Accounting - This feature allows for much more seemless implementation of multiple GAAP accounting.  Previously you'd have to mess around with having accounts that are specific to different GAAPs, creating FI validations to ensure the entries balanced, and complicated reporting structures to make sure you had the proper reporting.  The only other solutions were special purpose ledgers which may have helped to separate transactions for reporting, but did nothing to simplify the chart of accounts issues.  If you are a multinational company, and will have different GAAPs, it is essential.
    2) Profit Center Integration - With the new GL, Profit Center Accounting is an integrated element of the reporting ledgers.  No need for a fully independent PCA implementation.
    3) Extended Coding Block - Better support for adding customer defined fields to the coding block and having full transaction processing and reporting support.  No need to implement the SPL unless you are doing some truly complicated manipulations to posted data such that you need user exits on flexible field movements.
    4) SAP Stated Direction - This is where SAP is going and they aren't looking back.  If this is a fresh implementation you should consider starting out in this manner instead of performing the transition at a later date.  There are different transaction codes for the New GL than from the old GL, different reporting tables for the RW/RP, etc.
    5) Document Splitting - If you need documents to split automatically for various attributes, e.g. profit centers, business areas, other custom defined fields, this is the only effective way to perform this.
    I can't answer to the going back/forth  between the two, e.g. classic versus new GL, but don't see why you would be absolutely in error with going new GL.  I'd have a different opinion, but unlikely, if you were already live on the classic GL and you were contemplating going through the conversion.
    I hope this was what you were looking for.  Some points would be nice if so, please.
    Regards,
    Kyle

  • Display the filed instructions (that´s under IPTC Core metadata).

    Hi all
    I´m new on programing scripts in Photoshop..and tried everything but was not able to change the script below. Let´s explain this script is found at Adobe Photoshop default folder and works to show the Camera Model used to the current image.
    Now..the challenge...I want to change the scripts so when you run the it shows a field called Instructions (that´s located in the IPTC Core XMP metadata Tab. (In Photoshop > open an Image > go to File menu > File Info option and see the IPTC Core Tab > Instruction field).
    Can anyone please help me to change this lines. It could look very simple for you but it´s actually very difficult to me; This base-script is what I have and works fine to display the camera model:
    try {
         var xmpString = activeDocument.xmpMetadata.rawData.toString();
         var tiffModelLength = ('<tiff:Model>').length;
         var tiffModel = xmpString.search( '<tiff:Model>' );
         var tiffModelEnd = xmpString.search( '</tiff:Model>' );
         var tiffModelStr = xmpString.substr( tiffModel + tiffModelLength, tiffModelEnd - tiffModel - tiffModelLength );
         if ( tiffModelStr.length > 0 ) {
              alert( tiffModelStr + localize ( '$$$' ) );
         // check the exif
         var exifModelStr = '';
         var exifData = activeDocument.info.exif;
         for ( var i = 0; i < exifData.length; i++ ) {
              if ( exifData[i][0] == 'Model' ) {
    } // try end
    catch( e ) {
    // always wrap your script with try/catch blocks so you don't stop production
    // remove comments below to see error for debugging
    // alert( e );
    Thank you a lot for any help.
    Gustavo.

    Here is one of X's functions that should give you the information..
    #target photoshop
    var xmp = activeDocument.xmpMetadata.rawData;
    var Instructions = parseMetadata(xmp,"photoshop:Instructions");
    alert(Instructions);
    function parseMetadata(xmp, tag) {
      var re = new RegExp('<' + tag + '>(.+)</' + tag + '>');
      var m = xmp.match(re);
      if (!m) {
        re = new RegExp("<[^:]+:" + tag + ">(.+)</[^:]+:" + tag + '>');
        m = this.xmp.match(re);
      return (m ? m[1] : '');

  • Its Time To Upgrade My Computer/ Need Some Advice, old or new 8 core

    well my dual 2.0 had a nice run but its time to move on up.i use alot of software plugs, omnisphere , bfd2 etc and my machine can't handle it. my question is. do i get a older 8 core and save some money or get one of the new ones. and also which speed. i know there is 3 new 8 core.
    if i feel its worth it i would spend the extra money and get the latest and greatest, but do i need too? someone was mentioning muliithreading and things i know nothing about. also did the older 8 cores drop in value yet? and where is a good place to shop for one
    thanks

    I was recently in the market for a new Mac Pro. My Dual 2gig had seen it's last mix ; )
    I was originally lurking on EBay but I wasn't impressed with the prices on used 8-cores so, on a whim, I actually called one of the local Apple stores just to see if they had any left. Sure enough they had one 2.8 8-core in stock. Their price was $2499 (fortunately I am a part-time audio production teacher as well) and I received the EDU discount and got it for $2299 (plus the icky Illinois/Cook County/Chicago tax).
    I would definitely hunt for a Old(New) one.
    Good Luck!

  • Should i need a new oracle instance or schema?

    Hello All,
    I know that this is may sound like a silly question but i really need to know. In our company we have a server with oracle standard and a instance that holds a financial database. Now, the company bought a new antivirus software and it runs over oracle database. Now, should i create a new schema to own my antivirus tables or should i need create a new database instance?
    I've worked with other database product that has a different concept from oracle, regarding Intance-Database concept. I'm really new from oracle.
    Best regards,
    Rafael Melo - Br

    What exactly does 'it runs over oracle database' mean?
    You need to read the software documentation to see how to use it.

    An 'instance' and a 'database' are two different, though possibly related, things.
    See the Database Concepts Doc for the definition of 'instance' and 'database'
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10713/startup.htm
    >
    Introduction to the Oracle Database Instance
    A database instance is a set of memory structures that manage database files. A database is a set of physical files on disk created by the CREATE DATABASE statement. The instance manages its associated data and serves the users of the database.
    Every running Oracle database is associated with at least one Oracle database instance. Because an instance exists in memory and a database exists on disk, an instance can exist without a database and a database can exist without an instance.

  • How many cores i need for my new instance? 6 instances+ASM instances+new instance

    we have a server database with 6 instances rdbms+ asm instances. We want to add a new instance.
    Is there any formula or rule that is a reference to determine the number of cores to assign to my new instance?
    My new instance are going to have 900 gigas of data, and 29 gigas of memory targer, and CORES?? i don´t know it, i need help

    Hi,

    How have been assigning the cpu_cores to existing databases and ASM ?
    Please read this now, Instance Caging, which explains how can you divide CPU Cores among different database running on a server:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/performance/instance-caging-wp-166854.pdf
    When you add a new instance you also need to consider about available free memory on the server and additional IOs going to the disks. If you IO is already saturated then probably need to request new storage etc.

  • New dual core for running osx and windows-need autocad!

    considering a new desktop. I own a powerbook g4
    Machine Model: PowerBook5,6
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.2)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.5 GHz
    L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 512 MB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.9.1f3
    and use mostly for Adobe Creative suite and Powercadd 7.
    I then own a Dell Inspiron with Windows XP to run Autocad.(which I dislike PC)I would rather use a mac and wonder if the new dual core is something I should consider or is it not worth the pain?

    You have to use the crossgrade/update 7.2 for Logic Pro to work on an Intel Mac.
    It is now available and people have ordered it but I don't think anyone has received their upgrades as yet.
    It has been pointed out both by Apple and in numerous other places that Logic Pro will not run under Rosetta so unless you have 7.2 it aint gonna be working......
    If you DO have 7.2 already, then please tell us more.....

  • Aperture doesn't appear to write IPTC core correctly ?

    Hi,
    Having trouble getting some fields specifically written to Nikon NEF's and exported JPG versions of the same.
    Specifically the Creator field and Copyright field do not correctly reflect what is entered in Aperture IPTC Core panel even after explicitly writing to masters via menu command. Everything else seems to work.
    This is confirmed by Preview > Info Window > IPTC Tab and also Expression Media which doesn't seem to pick up any of the metadata.
    Are there known bug's with NEF's - My camera is set to Embed the two suspect fields on capture and I'm wondering if even though I'm explicitly "Replacing" the metadata in the Batch Change command, somehow this is still not respected by Aperture ??
    Is there a way to force Aperture to output XMP Sidecars ?
    Any input welcome ?
    Thanks

    After a long while on the phone with Apple Tech Support, we finally figured out the solution. After deleting ALL my previews (control-click on your main library icon and choose delete all previews) the Aperture library structure shows up everywhere it is supposed to. Of course, generating new previews will give access to the images again...
    Hope this helps.

  • Loading metadata via iptc core using Bridge

    I've noticed that after loading metadata into photos opened in PS (cs5) that when checking the "file info" for that photo, the metadata isn't showing up. Wonder what I should do differently?

    Does checking the "apply" check mark actually SAVE the photo with the newly applied metadata?
    It took me a while to understand your workflow but you seem to use the metadata workspace and with apply you mean the tiny green checkmark icon bottom right in the metadata panel, which is not the same as a template btw, you can create a template with basic info using the little menu icon top right in the metadata panel. Changing this template every time would not be needed if you use the panel itself on multiple selected files.
    You can either choose to add the template upon import using Photodownloader or select the files and choose add template from the same drop down menu top right of the panel.
    Then you can use the fields in the panel itself to add extra data (besides the basic copyright info e.g added with the template) for the selected files in one go or select a given number that needs other info.
    I never used it that way before but yes, when having filled all the wanted fields with your custom data you can indeed use the green checkmark and this should save the info to the files that are selected.
    You have to have read and write permissions and the files shouldn't be locked.
    But instead of the tiny icon in the metadata workspace (to my opinion a next to useless default workspace that can't be altered the way it should be possible) I always use my custom workspace (large preview, large content panel with larger thumbs, a column with folders, filter collections and favorites and a metadata panel with IPTC core in view) and after having filled the lines I want I hit the enter key to save the changes.
    As said, only the selected files are saved with the data and you have to wait for the activity bar (bottom left) to finish the job before starting a new one because sometimes this causes half of the the files not being saved with the correct and complete info.

  • Enter Dublin Core XMP in Bridge metadata window

    Someone in the general discussion area suggested I cross-post this question here:
    I'm trying to find the best way to add some Dublin Core into TIFF files. Basically I'd like to add data to the dc:identifier and dc:relation fields while I'm adding other data in Bridge.  Is there a way to create a tab for Dublin Core in the metadata window?
    Currently we're using Bridge and IPTC core was working okay, but now we need to add some metadata that would fit better in Dublin Core.  I know it has a namespace in XMP, but can't figure out a way to use Bridge or Photoshop to enter it.
    I have tried to adapt a script created by Paul Riggott in this thread, but have been unable to make it work.
    I also tried the "add identifier" script in this thread, but I'm not seeing how it works... probably because it was written for the Mac and I'm working in Windows. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • In desperate need of a new laptop! Should I go with the MBP Retina, MBP, or MB Air?

    I am in need of a new computer, but I have no idea which one I want to get. I really need some advice. Here is all the info I think you all would need to help me out:
    Currently I have a 15-inch 2008/2009 Macbook Pro with these stats:
    4.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    500 GB  SATA hard drive with 122 GB not in use
    Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
    I use my computer for:
    Fairly heavy e-mail and word processing
    About 50 GB of music in my iTunes library
    Moderate photoshop and illustrator use
    Moderate photo editing
    Light video editing (in imovie)
    Heavy internet use (rarely have less than 10 tabs open at a time)
    Light game playing (Sims etc)
    I like my computer to be fairly portable and light, but I wouldn't sacrifice everything else for the lightest computer on the market. However, I do find my current Mac Book Pro to be too heavy.
    Computers I am considering:
    Macbook Pro 13"
    Macbook Pro Retina 13" or 15"
    Macbook Air 13"
    (not sure of which configuration on any of them, though)
    These are my thoughts about my options:
    MBPro 13inch:
    PRO: Lighter than my current mac
    PRO: Fairly inexpensive (as far as macs go)
    PRO: upgradability (if I ever wanted to)
    CON: No quad-core... will I miss it if I've never had it? Do I need it?
    CON: Small speaker (to keep fullsize keyboard) Does anyone know of any issues with this?
    Screen size is completely fine for me.
    PRO: Easily portable, fits well in a purse. Not too heavy.
    MBPro Retina
    PRO: It's freaking beautiful.
    PRO: Both are lightweight and portable, 13" moreso.
    PRO: Flash memory (from what I've been told, it's better because of no moving parts?)
    PRO: Can get quad-core with 15"
    PRO: Awesome speakers
    CON: More $$ (though not the biggest decision maker)
    Unsure: Would have to use an adapter for Ethernet (which I don't use frequently)
    CON: not upgradable (not necessarily a con, but it seems like a big issue)
    Unsure: The Retina screen. I'm worried about certain apps not working for it yet (I'm a hardcore chrome user)
    MB Air:
    PRO: Very lightweight and portable
    PRO: It's very aesthetically pleasing.
    CON: Not customizable (again, I'm kind of undecided on this)
    CON: It seems like it's not very powerful?
    CON: I'm worried that it's not enough to support my usage.
    I have plans to buy an iMac in the next few months, probably around February or March. On that I could do all of my major photoshop work and graphics design, etc. But I don't want to get something that won't support my needs until then.

    Walk into an Apple Store or call the online Apple Store.  The sales staff will be more than happy to help you with your concerns and help you make your decision.

    I really hope someone out there can help me out here because I'm at my wit's end!!!!
    I have a bunch of raw files in a folder, these are just pictures I took for a bit of general practice over Christmas.
    Now, whilst trying to modify the IPTC Core Fields (basically adding my name and my email address to the pictures), it worked fine for most of the pictures, but for some reason it will not work for the last 20. This is driving me nuts. :(
    The first picture which doesn't work was taken literally 2 seconds after the last one which does work. All pictures work perfectly well in Photoshop, I can open them, modify them, save them as jpgs... no problem. But it just won't let me change the metadata. The pencils on the IPTC Core fields are nowhere to be found, the option File>File Info appears greyed out... etc.
    The error messages I get:
    1. When clicking on any line of the IPTC Core Fields (such as "Creator") =
    i "This property cannot be modified".
    2. When clicking on the keywords tab and trying to enter keywords =
    i "The file Name.CR2 cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur"
    I have scoured the web for help, visited multiple forums... to no avail. It looks like other people are having the same problem but no-one seems to have a solution. I haven't done anything different to those 20 pictures, so I just can't think of a logical answer, it just doesn't make sense!!
    I am only starting to catalogue my pictures in the hope of going professional one day and this is extremely discouraging... if anyone out there can help, I'd be ever so grateful. Right now I just feel like pulling my hair out!! :'(
    OK, rant over :)
    Thanks very much for reading and thanks very, very much in advance for any suggestions/ideas!!

    I have run into the same problem. I downloaded photos in raw format ".CR2" from a Canon 40D via a compact flash card reader to my laptop. I labelled the ones I wanted green and then transferred these images via wireless transfer to my desktop. I had not checked any keywords while these were on the laptop. I used the Bridge (CS3)File/Copy to menu selection to effect the transfer. Both systems are Windows XP, SP2.
    I then tried to check a keword in my list for an image and got the error message number 2 reported by Maria Atkins above. I got the same for all images on the desktop system.
    Observations:
    -the green labelled items are correctly filtered on the desktop, but the labels on the images all show white.
    -not all images even have .xmp files associated with them. It appears to be a random thing.
    -although I have checked my preference to have double click open an image in Camera Raw in Bridge it will not do so with these images, always opening Camera Raw in Photoshop.
    -the camera exif data is correctly attached to the images, whether there is a .xmp file associated or not.
    -On my laptop I found I can check keywords and they are stored with the image with no complaints from Bridge, and whether the image has a .xmp file associated with it or not. This is after I had copied the images to the desktop. I was just checking whether the problem was with the original images or just the transferred ones. It appears to be that something was not done correctly in the transfer.
    This is not a trivial issue since it is essential for cataloging images to enable future searches. I hope someone from Adobe is paying attention and will respond with an answer.

  • IPTC Core metadata fields lost with PNGs

    Hi there,
    I have a TIF file which contains data in the IPTC core fields. Converting the TIF to a JPEG will retain most of the fields and can be viewed still in Adobe Bridge.
    However, converting to a PNG will lose all of the data. The only way it seems to retain metadata is to set options on the Save to Web options in Photoshop, which doesn't really work too good with a 100mb TIF being converted.
    Resampling to PNG in ImageMagick and then reading in Bridge has the same issue, even though 8BIN and IPTC profiles are actually embedded into the file.
    Does Bridge support IPTC core metadata for PNG files?
    Many thanks!

    They've confirmed the same thing i've found, that Save For Web actually preserves a chunk of the IPTC core data, but this isn't really any good for the quality of image I need to save.
    It's strange how the XMP preserve option isn't available for a standard PNG save.

  • CS5, IPTC core, only author is showing in content

    Metadata>IPTC core>creator, job title......>apply. Only the creator s name is showing in content, (as author) not the other items. Any clue why?
    Thanks

    First of all, where I am: Bridge, I opened up a folder, clicking on the
    metadata tab gives a dark gray panel with the thumbnails listed on the left,
    What you call the metadata tab I think is in fact the Metadata workspace?
    (To my own opinion the Metadata workspace is very useless, but that aside)
    My purpose: to make sure that the person on the other end of the mail gets the
    captions. I figured out a good part of it , but not all.
    In preferences, all the options are checked, so basically I can "write"
    anything i want, but I only need title and author.
    The preferences for Bridge metadata gives you option to check or uncheck but
    that is only to see the lines that you check are visible in the metadata
    panel. If you have the option 'hide empty fields' also checked (by default
    on) the fields that have no info in it will not show.
    But the IPTC in the file info is still having all this fields written to it.
    I found out that if I write those (description and author) in Photoshop
    file\info, they appear simultaneously in Bridge in both the the lighter gray
    panel to the left, in the white fiels with the pencils, AND  next to the
    thumbnails, in the dark gray panel.
    Bridge just reflects the info you have filled in, only the main window of
    the Metadata Workspace does show very little of the content and you are not
    able to select what info you want to show next to the thumbs Hence my
    'useless' qualification...)
    The metadata panel itself however can be of great help for you. You can make
    a template for the IPTC / file info. This can be done in both PS and Bridge.
    For PS open File info and fill in the fields that you think will need the
    same info for every file (your name address copyright etc ) and when done
    click export.
    For Bridge (where you can also open file info) you have the ability to use
    the metadata panel. Top right of the panel is a small icon that provides you
    a fly out menu. Here you can choose to create a template but also you can
    choose to add a template (when having a template created).
    This is a major time saver that let's you add the same info you want to add
    to all your files in one go. Select the files you want to alter and choose
    append metadata and click on the template you want to add.
    Now the files need some time to save but all the data is there!
    Having multiple files that need the same description/caption you only have
    to select those files and in the editable fields in the metadata IPTC core
    section you can write this once and they are written to all the selected
    files when done.
    Besides that Batch rename (tools/batch rename) let you create a really easy
    to use naming convention with auto adding sequence number shot date and a
    lot more options.
    What is left for me to understand: if my data is embedded from file\info, and
    to be more precise it should be file\info\save for web because it seems that a
    different title in save for web prevails over file\info
    Not sure I understand this, you mean the mobile SFW tab in file info? Or the
    file after having used the save for web option to create a file for web??
    I verify that the data is there, which means that I dont have to write
    nothing anymore, so what is the purpose of the lighter gray panel with the
    little pencils?
    Those fields let you add custom info to the metadata if you should wish so.
    Preferable you should fill in as much as possible in the IPTC using the
    template.
    Leaving you with only having to add a few fields with custom info that
    changes per file/subject. Description, keywords, date created, City, state,
    country are fields that can be read by many applications and also will be
    used to search for files using phrases or keywords.
    What is confusing, is that, and I rephrase the old question, if you write
    creator in the IPTC core next to the little pencil, that will appear next to
    the thmbnail in the dark gray panel, if the thumbnail is selected of course,
    but the next item, job title will not appear, even if I click on apply at the
    bottom of the pencils.
    If this is still about the metadata workspace forget about it. If you fill
    in that field or have filled it in using a template and it shows in the
    metadata panel it is saved in there

    Is there the possibility that a script could be used to add data to IPTC standard fields?
    Thanks.
