My church's laptop was stolen and the insurance company is asking for a lot of information I don't have. Can I use my serial number to get information about the computer's initial features?

A few weeks ago we had our flat broken into and the Macbook nicked. It's now been replaced, however, obviously, when I've authorised this MB to play the music we've bought, it tells me that 2 computers are now authorised.
Since I no longer have the other Macbook, can Apple somehow deauthorise the stolen machine for me? Do you think I can just email them with the data (I do have the serial number still) and they can take if off my allocation? I don't wish to have one of my allowances used by some cheeky sod who now has MY laptop!

Actually, you probably want to email iTunes Support and let them know what happened. They can deauthorize all computers on your account and then you can authorize your new computer. I would also change the password on your iTunes account. This will add a layer of security to help prevent the theif from using your account. How to get MAC Address of a stolen laptop by using Serial number?

Hi my Lenovo G560 laptop was stolen on 17/04/13. I have the serial number. In order to trace the laptop, I need the MAC address. Unfortunately I don't know the MAC address of my stolen laptop. My question is, is it possible to get the MAC address by using serial number?

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Unfortunately, the only way to get the MAC address is to run a query on the unit (physically or or remotely). Using the serial number to query information on the system will list the devices that are included on the unit (this doesn't include the MAC address).

Shutdown repair - "On hold - Need information" ???

I was bummed today to see my MacBook's repair status (2nd time it's gone in for Random Shutdown in a month) with "On hold - Need information" and "Your repair is currently on hold. Please contact AppleCare".
Wasn't sure what to expect when calling AppleCare, but certainly wasn't expecting them to ask what they did: "what are you doing when the shutdowns occur?" Um. I've answered that question, every single time I've talked to folks at the Genius Bar (about two hours over two trips) and at AppleCare (5-7 calls). It's in the case report. It's gotta be in there multiple times!
The answer is, of course, "it doesn't matter". What I'm running is completely irrelevant. I might be rendering a DVD, or reading a web page, or the computer might be asleep, or it might be doing nothing, or I might be recompiling a couple hundred Java files, or ...
What have other people been telling AppleCare? I must be doing something wrong; people have been getting theirs fixed, right?
I've been using "Random Shutdown" and "Intermittent Shutdown" since day one, in describing this. What do you call it?
BTW, was on hold for an hour tonight; Dispatch (?) said it was all the kids going back to school. I expect it's going to be hard to get AppleCare for the next month or so, unless they staff up a bit more.

A similar thing is happening with me. My Macbook was sent in for repair a few days ago. Early yesterday, it showed up as "Repair in progress" or whatever but now it shows as "on hold - need information" and instructs me to contact Apple Care. So I called them and they were essentially clueless.
The support agent I spoke to basically had me repeat the story of the problem I'm having (even though that information is already in the ticket) and then just said he was updating the ticket with that information.
I then called the Apple store who had shipped my laptop to the depot after being unable to repair it themselves. The repair guy there said the ticket indicated that the folks at the repair depot couldn't reproduce the issue. Ummm...ok.
So, the Apple store guys couldn't fix my "broken" speaker and decided it was the logic board, so they sent it out for repair. Now they can't reproduce the issue? Just replace the logic board!
I'm really getting fed up here. From the run around I'm getting about my repair to the goon in customer service who had the nerve to tell me that "the logic board didn't decide to fail after the 14 day return period," I've become completely disenchanted with Apple.
All I want is to continue enjoying my laptop without any problems--exactly what I paid for.

Is it possible to track a stolen laptop ?
My Macbook Pro has been stolen and I am wondering if there is any way Apple can track if it is being used and by whom. I am guessing that when the thief (or whoever buys the laptop) signs on to the Apple server and quotes the number on the bottom then this information is recorded. I would like to get my computer back so I can carry on using it for my photography.

Sorry to hear about that -- I haven't used that service, but have never had problems with UPS or FedEx...although I know those are a lot more expensive in Europe than here....
Sorry about your loss. Apple does not track serial numbers either, except as they relate to repairs, they don't track who owns what when - macbooks change hands frequently within groups of friends, passed on through family members, or eBayed....they do not track anything for legal purposes.

Help with stolen laptop

Does anyone know if there is a place where I can contact Apple with the registration number for a stolen laptop so that if it is serviced by Apple or another service dealer I might get it back. I thought I had heard about something similar being done some time ago and wanted to know if this was possible.

Hi, Jesse. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
No, Apple does not provide such a service. Such a task would be a monumental undertaking.
You need to contact your local law enforcement agency (which, I assume, you have already done).
If you have homeowner's or renter's insurance, it may cover a stolen iBook.
I would also advise checking eBay for iBooks whose descriptions match yours. Then use eBay's "Contact a Seller" feature to ask about the serial number. It would also be a good idea to watch your local pawn shops to see if it turns up there.

I recently had two laptops stolen. Is there a way (1) to "deauthorize" the stolen laptops so the music on the laptops can be "authorized" for use on other laptops and (2) obtain copies of the lost music purchased from iTunes?

You cannot yourself deauthorize a computer that's not working or to which you no longer have access. If you really feel you need to deauthorize that system now - it won't do much other than getting you back that authorization to use on another computer if you're already approaching the limit - you can try contacting the iTunes Music Store customer support department through the form at the bottom of their web page and explaining the problem to them. They might be willing to clear your authorizations for you.
As to recovering the apps and music, applications can be downloaded again. If you didn't make a backup of your apps (something you absolutely should be doing on a regular basis), go through the purchase process as normal and it should allow you to download the apps again without being charged. Music, videos and movies are not the same, though; they cannot be downloaded more than once per purchase. You need to restore them from your backup or from an iPod, if you have one. If you have neither, you can try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis, but don't count on it.

I have VERY little knowledge, but from my understanding, most of the equipment hooks up via USB or Line-Out (headphone jack), so any device with USB ports should be fine. Additionally, with USB hubs being so cheap, you probably only need one or two USB ports.
As long as you have enough processing power to output to all of your sources without lag, you should be fine.
That said, I'd recommend joining a forum specifically related to DJing, because that would be your best source of information and the users would be able to provide better advice than you'll get here.

I had this problem too after i upgdatd to OS X Mavericks... only the songs on my iphone 5s that i purchased from itunes would play.
i read something about it being a syncing issue. when you plug your phone into your computer with the usb cable, the person said to switch from automatic syncing of itunes to the "manual" option. mine was already set to manual so i wasn't sure anything would work. BUT, when i plugged my phone into my computer, it started to sync all of my music on my phone again (top of itunes bar where song playing/time is listed said "now syncing 123/534 songs to x's iphone"). once that was completed, i checked the music app on my iphone and everything was back to normal!
so, i would suggest setting your music syncing settings to manual if you haven't tried that yet!

By seat, I assume you mean site or location.
It's difficult to answer this type of question as it depends on so many factors. Personally, I would always go for the centralized solution. This way you don't need to worry about replication or distribution of data. Those things are always a nightmare.
RAC is great for high availability, and it will allow you to increase your horsepower as and when you need it, but you still need to consider your performance erquierments up front.
Of course, centralization comes with it's own set of problems. Are you going to connect to the central server via the web, VPN, leased line? What happens when the connection is unavailable?
There is just so much to consider...
