Need information on transferring project from one Mac to another

I just returned from a trip, during which I started and added photos to an Aperture project on my MB Air.  When I got home and started up my MacPro after the month's absence I was surprised to see the same project appear on my desktop.  I thought I understood that Photo Stream/iCloud simply "shared" the month's photo stream between devices and computers, but was not aware that a project would also appear on each computer.
The photos were actually added physically to only the MB.  Question:  Does the project that appears on my desktop actually contain all of the photo files and information downloaded to the desktop?  Or, are they simply in the "cloud" somehwere with a link in Aperture?
Also, if they are not physically on my desktop, how would I get them there wihtout actually importing every SD card again?  Thanks!

Unless you actually imported them into the library on the desktop system they are only in the photo stream (and on the Air)
You can do one of two things:
You can import them from the photo stream. Make a project in the library on the desktop and drag the images from the photo stream to that project.
Or else export the projects you added the images to on the Air as a new library, copy that library over to the desktop and import it into the library on the desktop.
The advantage to doing it this way is if you have made any adjustments to the images or added metadata then that will be added to the library on the desktop. If you copy from the photo stream you will only get the originals

  • Project from one mac to another

    Hi
How dose one take a project from one mac to another.
On one of mac the fotage has been cut as a ruff cut and I would like to take that edited to another mac the fotage is on both mac. Is it as simple as a edl list and reconnect the fotage on the other mac.
tips please as this is the first time I'm going to do this
thanks for helping out going from 5.1 to 6
    trevor

Just copy the project file to the other Mac, and open it. Reconnect if FCP asks you to.
If you just want that single sequence, right-click the sequence in the Browser window, and choose File -> Export -> XML (version 3). Copy and import that in FCP on the other Mac. (File -> Import -> XML)

  • I have no problems copying iMovie Events from one Mac to another, however, how can I copy iMovie Projects from one Mac to another?

I have no problems copying iMovie Events from one Mac to another, however, how can I copy iMovie Projects from one Mac to another?  Any help will be appreciated.  Thank you.

This should give you some good insight, I'd probably store them on an External HD on the old machine and then just drag and drop to the new machine.

  • Moving iPhone App Project from one Mac to Another...HELP!!

    Hey guys,
Im new to programming. I made a simple app and I want to most it from one mac to another. I copied the folder and tried running it but it gave me a whole bunch of errors along the lines of:
    - directory not writable
    - permission failed
    - errors permission denied
    etc...
I do not know what I am doing wrong. Please please help!

Hi GadgetAddicted & welcome to discussions...
It sounds like you're not using the original locations that are constructed when Xcode is first installed.
If your second install is the same as the original, moving a simple project that is intact to begin with shouldn't be a problem.
Be sure that all the resources related to that project are local to the original project (inside the same parent folder), and then duplicate the parent folder...move that, but be sure the name of the parent folder in the second location is the same as in the original.
Repair permissions via Disk Utility after the move.

  • Need help transfering a fcp project from one Mac to another

I have two students who need to work on projects on the same computer at the same time-deadlines-and need to move one project AND all the files to another Mac. When we open this file it asks to reconnect everything and it's taking forever to match everything up correctly. Is there any way to scoop up all the files needed in one file as there is in IMovie so that all needed files are associated with the project and move together? Please help if you can, I have a fast external drive to put the files on.

Or make an exact copy of the media files from one drive to another and make sure that the drive names and directory structure are identical. fcp will not be able to tell the difference and the files should not need any reconnecting.

  • Copying an Iphoto Album&Project from one Mac to another

I have Iphoto 08 on both a macbook running 10.4.11 and IMAC running 10.5.1.
I was using the macbook to download and store all pictures until I got the IMAC.
I copied the Iphoto library to an external harddrive that is now attached to the IMAC and am accessing that library(option) key when launching Iphoto.
I was traveling with the laptop taking and downloading a lot more photos, while my wife was creating some albums and calender projects on the IMAC.
Now that I'm back I want to bring the new events from the laptop on to the IMAC or save the albums and projects on to the laptop so I can reback up the entire photo library (~18,000) photos. Is there an easy way to copy an album/project from one iphoto library to another or would it be simpler to copy new events?

You can do this best and most easily with iPhoto Library Manager

  • I transfered a project from one mac to another and imovie won't open the rcproject on the 2nd computer

How do I get the new computer to open the transferred project to continue editing?

The project file is sort of like a text file ( a hexadecimal text file) that provides instructions to how to put the project together. These instructions are run when you SHARE the project using the Share menu.
The rcproject file does not contain any of your video footage. Those are all in the Event folders. It also does not contain your Photos. Those are in iPhoto, or Aperture, or wherever you keep them.
    A project might say,
Go get clip A from Event 1 and start at frame 32 and end at frame 500. Then overlay a title on it and crank up a music track that you can find at this path in iTunes. Now go get this other clip....
That is why project files are very small.
That is also why it is very important to do all moves within iMovie. If you move an Event folder somewhere using the Finder, the Project file still thinks that all the clips are at the original place, so now they can't find them.
The best way to move the Event folders is to attach an external drive. The external drive must be formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). In iMovie, click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK. Now you should see your disk drive listed in the Event Library.
The most foolproof method is first to hold down the Command key and drag the small icon for your project in the Project Library List to the small icon for the external disk drive in the Project Library List. (Note: A simple drag will COPY. Holding Command down as you drag will MOVE).
Now, select this project file on your external drive. Now click FILE/CONSOLIDATE MEDIA. Now you can copy over all Event folders referenced in the Project, as well as copies of any music, photos, or other project assets.
You can plug this drive into the other Mac and edit. Or if you prefer, you can reverse the process by Command Dragging the Project (in iMovie ) to the internal drive, and then selecting it and FILE/CONSOLIDATE MEDIA.

  • Transferring Mail from one Mac to another via Screen Sharing

    Hi,
I live in California. My Mother lives in Montreal. She has to computers. A Mac Mini and new MacBook.
What I want to do is transfer her Mail from the Mac Mini to the MacBook via Screen Sharing or Remote Management. In other words, I want to do this from my computer.
How does one go about this? What somewhere is needed to make it all work?
    Thanks in advance.

you can't screen share between 3 computers. but you can between two. the easiest way is via ichat. users need to log into ichat on both computers and then you can send a request to share screen via ichat. it's also possible to do it without ichat but that might be more difficult that your mother can manage if she is not too computer savvy which I suspect is the case here. first she has to enable screen sharing in her system preferences->sharing. that's easy. but if she has a router (does she) then she need to port forward port public port 5900 on the router to the port 5900 on her computer so that you can get through the router when trying to screen share from outside. particular instructions on port forwarding depend on the router model. once the port is forwarded you can vnc to here computer from where you are by going to go menu-.connect to server in finder. then in the popup enter
    vnc://ip.address
where the ip.address is the ip address of her router. she can find it out by going to this website for example
    http://www.whatismyip.com/
but all in all, it's much easier with ichat as no port forwarding is required.

  • Can i move an unfinished imovie project from one mac to another

so i started a project in imovie on my parents mac and now i want to finish it off on my macbook. is there anyway I can transfer the project????

Yup. however, seeing as how it isn't finalized, well this ought to work.
1-connect up your macbook to your parents' mac (file sharing?)
2-open up iMovie (on your parents' mac)
3-click on "project library" in the upper right hand corner of your iMovie window. You should see your other hard drive there, also. drag your project to this drive. If a message comes up about "project" or "project and events", choose project and events
4-launch iMovie (on your macbook) click on Project Library. and the one your transferred should be there. drag it to the iMovie projects list and it should work
oh, one last thing. Both your parents' mac and your macbook should have the same version of iMovie for this to work, so I've been told

  • How to move a project from one Mac to another

    Hi,
I started an iMovie project on my MBP but want to finish it on my more powerful iMac. I copied the project file from my MBP to my iMac, but when I start iMove, the project does not appear in my project pane.
    Any idea what's wrong here?

    Hello P-Pod,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
You can follow this article to share any document with other user profiles.
OS X Mountain Lion: Share files with others who use your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10636
Share a file with one other user on your Mac
Click the desktop to make sure you’re in the Finder, and then choose Go > Computer.
Double-click the icon for your computer’s internal disk (usually named Macintosh HD) to open it.
Open the Users folder, and then open the folder for the person to whom you’re giving a file.
Open the user’s Public folder, and then drag the file to the Drop Box. To keep a copy of the file for your own use, hold down the Option key while you drag.

  • Transferring data from one mac to another

I recently bought a second hand mac from ebay and it was pretty empty. There are some settings still from the previous user.
My old mac's backlight has died and the only way to use it is to link it up to my tv.
I have tried using the Migration assistant via WI-FI and ethernet cable and both haven't worked.
I'm considering taking the hard drive out of the mac and using it as an external hard drive. There are a couple of programs i've tried to download but dont work and i'd really like my firefox settings back!
I was also wondering if i was able to take the RAM from the old mac and install it in the new mac?
    All suggestions welcome.

The model 5,1 is the Aluminum Unibody and doesn't have a FireWire port which would be the easiest way to transfer.
To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application Carbon Copy Cloner. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.bombich.com/index.html You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then format and partition the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one and put your old one in the external case.
Here's a cheap SATA external hard drive case on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/SATA-Hard-Drive-Case-Enclosure/dp/B001AAVA08/ref=pd_cp_e_0
You can't take the RAM from the 3,1 and put it in the 5,1. The model 3,1 (Late 2007) uses 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM and the model 5,1 (Late 2008, Aluminum Unibody) uses 204 pin 1066mhz PC3-8500 RAM
However RAM is cheap for the 5,1 http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3

  • Moving a project from one mac to another & fonts

iMovie is so easy to use but I have struck two snags...
I'm working on a video on my iMac but want to also be able to work on it on my iBook. Is this possible and if so, what files do I have to move around?
Also, I've installed a font (through font book), but it doesn't appear in my list of fonts for titles. Have I done something wrong?
Thanks (this iMovie thing is totally addictive, isn't it?)
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi dawdle -
I'm working on a video on my iMac but want to also be able to work on it on my iBook. Is this possible and if so, what files do I have to move around?
You would need to transfer the whole project 'package'.
To do that, you can use Target Disk Mode, where both computers are linked via firewire. BUT the problem here is that you are then working on a copy of your iMac's original. This would obviously cause big problems!
The best solution would be to store your project on an external drive, which then can be connected to either computer.

  • Exporting project from one mac to another

Hi, I have a project in Aperture 3 with referenced images stored on an external hard drive.  I want to export this project across to another Mac without the RAW files being copied across as well.  I had hoped to re-reference the masters (RAW files) simply by plugging the hard -drive into the Mac and re-connecting referenced files.
Is this possible at all ?
    regards

When you export as a lbrary you have the option of not including any referenced masters into the library:
Just make sure Consolidate masters into exported library is not checked.
When you get this library over to the other Mac and connect the HD with the masters on it you probaply will have to run File->Locate Referenced Files to reconect the masters. But Aperture uses UUID's to identify disks so you might get lucky and not have to do this step.

  • Moving project from one Mac to another

    Hi,
Sorry if this question has been asked before.
I have a project on my MBA. All masters of this project is on an external HDD.
I want to move this project to my iMac. I still want to retain the masters on the HDD.
What's the best way to do it?
    Thanks in advance.
    -Kailas

    Well, this _should_ work.
"File→Export Project as Library".  Do NOT consolidate Masters.
    "File→Import Project/Library".
When your external drive is mounted on the second computer, Aperture should automatically connect the Images in the Project you copied to their correct Masters.
Frank will send peckish pythons my way if this is not correct.

  • Moving an iPhoto project from one mac to another?

OK, so i have bookes created on my macbook air on holiday and now that im home i want to copy these projects (hours of work) to my main iPhoto library on my iMac....is this possible and how do i do it?

No, merging will not do it.
You copy the Library to the other machine - so you have two libraries - then open it and work away.
