Need instructions for replacing ethernet port

My Blue and White G3 had its ethernet port killed during a recent power surge. Does anyone know where I can find a website that will instruct me how to replace it.

Caution about third-party cards -- some of the companies that made them have gone out of business. Be sure that if the card is not genuine Apple, you get the driver with it.

  • Need instructions for replacing battery

    Hey, all.
The "Replace Battery" light is lit on my ONT, and it is (of course) doing that annoying beeping noise.
Since the only way to permanently stop the beeping is to disconnect the battery, I'd like to do that.  Unfortunately, none of the instructions I've seen online, or gotten from Verizon customer service, have applied to my specific ONT model.
I have a Motorola ONT1000GJ2  (Yes, GJ, not GT, I've checked repeatedly).  I *think* the battery is in the upper section of the housing, but I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get to it.
If anyone has achieved this blessed state of affairs of actually getting to this battery, could you be so kind as to fill me in on how?
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am providing my own answer to this question, as the community didn't come up with an answer, and Verizon customer "service" (and I use the term extremely loosely in this regard) was the exact opposite of helpful.
Looking at the picture above, on the far right-hand side, there are two recessed hex-screws, one above the other.  To access the battery compartment on this particular model, leave the lower screw tightened, and loosen the upper screw.  Don't worry about it falling out: I'm pretty sure it's a "captive" screw, and so cannot be fully removed.
Once you have the screw loosened, pull outward on the upper right corner of the box.  You may have to lift up at the same time, if it hangs up on you.  (In order to lift up on it, put a finger or thumb in the screw's recess, and push upward).  Continue to jiggle and pull, and eventually the stupid thing will come open.  Once you've got it open, removing the battery and then the battery clips is the same as in the videos they've provided:  Pull back the tabs to slip the battery out, and then wiggle the connectors off the battery posts.
WARNING:  The battery is several pounds in weight, and the wires are not all that long.  If you have to stretch to get to your unit like I do (mine is mounted above my washer/dryer), you will benefit from a helper, so they can hold the battery while you remove the battery connectors.  I know I struggled a bit trying to do it alone.
Thanks to those who attempted to help me.  I hope this is able to help someone else in the future.
Oh, and one more piece of info:  Verizon "customer service" will repeatedly tell you the only official way to make the unit stop beeping is to replace the defective battery with a new one.  They have to utter the word "official", because otherwise, you can accuse them (accurately) of lying.  The unit will stop beeping as soon as you disconnect the old battery.  They, of course, want you to spend $30+ buying a new battery from them, so they will not tell you this.  If, like me, you have no desire to replace the battery, rest assured, the unit will stop annoying you once you've got the old battery out of it.  The "Replace Battery" light will remain on, but the audible warnings will end.

Ive replaced everything else, time to replace the LCD, but need the procedure to do it.
    Thanks

Before you do surgery on your imac, go to applications, system preferences, displays, and see if you can adjust the brightness. My screen was significantly darker after I upgraded to 10.4.3 and I was able bring it back to life. For some reason the upgrade caused the brightness button to regress to 0 on a scale of one to ten- hope this works for you

  • Need Instructions for installing AE card in dual G5 tower

I need instructions for installing a AE card in a dual 2 GHZ powermac G5. I understand I need to also install an external antenna. Since I do not have an antenna where is the best source for the antenna, apple or an outside vendor. My G5 is presently connected to a netgear router and I want to use the AE card to communicate with an airport express base station with airtunes connected to my stereo receiver. Would this create a conflict since my computer is connected to the netgear router. Any help would be appreciated.

You are going to need the t-shaped external aerial otherwise this is not going to work. Even though your PowerMac did not come with an Airport Extreme Card built in, it would have been supplied with the aerial.
You will need to find a replacement.

I am presuming that your Netgear is not wireless.
Can you connect the Airport Express to the router are do you want it in a different room?
You will be able to be connected to the router and AX at the same time, but in order to avoid internet and network issues, you should ensure that built-in-ethernet is above Airport in the network configurations.

How can I find my Mac Adress for the Ethernet Port from a Apple Airport Express Device ?

You can only locate, lock or erase your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.

The answers are in the details, and you have not given us enough details to help you.
Right now I am guessing at what you seek. Are you trying to use your HP Touch Screen to do your
Premiere Elements importing, editing, and exporting and the Touch Screen movements are not working
to do what you want to do in Premiere Elements?
Have you configured the HP computer Touch Screen? Using the Touch Screen, what cannot you do
that you can do with the mouse?
HP Support document - HP Support Center
If I am guessing correctly here, does the mouse work instead of the Touch Screen to allow you to
    work in the program.
I suspect that Premiere Elements does not support Touch Screen and you will end up using a mouse, but I would need to do more homework on
    that.
This is not Adobe. Rather user to user. If you are dealing with the current version, 13, you might want to contact
Adobe about the matter. More on that later, once you confirm the above or let me know that I have completely
    misinterpreted your question/concern.

This is the Adobe Troubleshooting Guide which you may want also to review. I would suggest using the Manual Installers which you can download and SAVE to your Desktop. Pay attention to any apps using Flash, you may need to Disable any Anti-Virus. Be sure to use the Administrator Account and check Settings. Be sure to Reboot after running the Uninstaller and also after Installing.

  • Need instructions for setting up wireless network at home, w/o base station

I have a new iMac with Airport Extreme card and a MacBook, also with a card. I need instructions for connecting the two Macs via Airport. I do not have a base station. The Help on the Mac does not match my actual system.
All of the manuals that I can find are for the base station.
    Please help.

    Hi W
You don't mention if you have any kind of internet connection on either computer, so I'll assume that you don't, and this setup will simply network the two computers with no consideration of the internet.
On either of the computers, make sure that the Airport icon is visible in the menubar, and that Airport is active - check System Preferences, Network, Airport to make sure both are the case. Now, in the menu icon, click "Create Network". You'll be prompted to name the new network, set a channel if you need to, and you can also set a password under "Show Options". Once the network has been created, your Airport icon will change to a solid grey with a computer inside it.
You should now be able to connect to the new network on your other Mac and share services.
Let me know if you have any problems with it.
    Matt

  • Need instructions on how to replace Ethernet port

My ethernet port died after a recent power surge. Does anyone know a helpful website that can walk me through replacing it? It's a flat panel 800 MHZ from about 5 years ago.

    Hello,
    Just to clarify:
The Ethernet adapter is built-into the logic board (main board) in Macintosh computers.
It's not a separate card that can be replaced like it is on many PC's.
So, you cannot replace a faulty Ethernet port without replacing your computer's main board / logic board. That's going to be more expensive than just buying another computer.
So, your options are new computer or USB Ethernet adapter.
A USB Ethernet adapter is going to plug into one of your USB ports, and act as an Ethernet port.
You need to make sure you get one that is compatible with your version of the Mac OS.
    Hope this helps.

  • Solutions for Broken Ethernet Port

The ethernet connector is broken and I'm unable to connect to the ethernet using an ethernet cable. Is there any solution other than replacing the whole motherboard??
I can't set up any internet connectivity without using the ethernet port...or can I?

With a wireless modem and/or router and an original AirPort Card, you could enjoy wireless internet.
It would be easier and cheaper than replacing the logic board.
    The iBook is AirPort-ready.
Instructions for installing the card can be found in this Apple Knowledge Base article:

The AirPort Extreme Card is NOT compatible with an iBook G3, and can further damage the logic board if it is installed.
    Good luck.

  • Need instructions for creating T61 XP backup media

Can you direct me to instructions for creating the backup media (DVD preferably) for the existing 4GB backup partition on my T61 running XP?  It is intact, and I can boot into it, but I'd sleep a little better if I had the option of booting from external media.  I'm aware of the advice to call and purchase this media, but I would prefer to just make it myself, if possible.
    Thanks!
Moderator Note; post moved to start new thread, subject edited.

I don't recall the step by step, but there is a menu item in the lenovo section you can use to burn recovery media from within windows. If I'm not mistaken, it can only be used once, however if someone already burned a set you can still restore from the harddrive and after restored you will again be able to burn one copy of recovery media.
However, I'll give you my own personal opinion on this. When you install from this recovery media you'll have an outdated operating system. The T61 recovery disc was made in 2006 or 2007 and after you install it you'll need to install the latest service pack, then you'll probably want to replace all the drivers and all the lenovo apps that are also outdated. You're going to end up replacing nearly everything, plus you're going ot have several redundant copies of all this outdated stuff taking up space. My preferred method is to use a windows setup disc that has the latest drivers and critical updates integrated, then go online and download the latest drivers for your hardware and as much or as little of the lenovo products that you want on your system. You then save an enormous amount of harddrive space and have a computer without all the bloat and it all gets done in a fraction of the time. The last time I installed from a factory restore disc set it took hours, then several hours more to replace everything with updated versions.

  • Need instructions for Enhanced Cable Tech "Liberty" VGA adapter....

    Hi!
I'm trying to get my old PowerMac 8500 up and running. The only display I have that is (well, should be...) compatible is an old Apple Studio Display 15" Flat Panel (Rev B.). This is the second iteration of that display, with the VGA connection, not the earlier Mac 15 pin D-sub connection, which is what the 8500 has (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP135).
I have two adapters that I'd think should do the trick of getting me something on the display. An NEC MultiScan unit that has several resolutions printed on it, but no adjustments, and an Enhance Cable Technologies Liberty adapter.
The NEC one gets me noplace, and so far, neither does the Liberty.
The Liberty has a knob with several letter stops (A-M or N), and a set of 9 (I think) DIP switches. Instructions on the back list many resolutions, but only give instructions for the last 3 DIP switches, which are for sync. It mentions to consult the instructions (which I can't find or don't have) for using the other DIP switches to get "expanded" ID codes.
I've tried all of the knob stops, and a couple DIP switch settings, but nothing seems to get me an image on the display. The display does work, it just isn't detecting a signal, and it will tell me so.
I think the 8500 may be going into "headless" server mode (no video) when it can't detect a monitor attached, so once it boots (and it IS booting), I can't get anything until I re-boot again. I'll have to dig up an OS9 install CD, to see if that helps me any. When I stored it some years ago, it was running Mac OS X 10.2 via a boot loader (it has a Sonnet PPC G3 processor upgrade card), so that may be an issue, too.
But, I was hoping that maybe someone has the instructions for the Liberty adapter kicking around in their junk drawer. All I need is the instructions for the DIP switch settings.
    Regards,
    Larry W.

Well, bought some new PRAM batteries from OWC. Installed one on the 8500/150 (also bought spares for my G4 & SE/30), zapped the PRAM several times, and still nothing. Then dug out my DVI-VGA adapter for my MBP, just to verify that nothing had gone sour with the display since I last put it in the box. All good there.
But, it turns out that I had a solution all along in the "Accessories Kit" in the box the Studio Display came with. There was, still sealed in 16-year-old plastic, an adapter that came bundled with the display! Cut open the plastic, installed it, hooked on the display, and presto-chango, I'm watching Jaguar boot up!
Though, Jaguar isn't so swift on this machine, even with a 250Mhz G3 processor... Might have to do with only 240MB of RAM... Once I got it back running Mac OS 9.1, though, it's a pretty snappy machine. It even reports a processor speed of 279Mhz!
Now I can get what I need from the machine, and move it on to a new home. Also check out all the rest of my SCSI devices for data I think I need, as this is my last SCSI machine that'll take more than one internal device!
And I may even see if I can make the Liberty adapter work like the Apple-supplied one.
