Need instructions on hard reset of HP officejet pro 8600

Hi jason_h ,
Please message me with the info about how to do a hard reset on my Officejet pro 8600.  Thank you!

Hello jnycsh,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see that you are trying to reach out to @jason_hto learn about a hard reset for the Officejet 8600. To my knowledge, a hard reset consists of removing the power cord for the printer (while on), ensuring the power is connected to a wal outlet directly and after one minute connecting the power back to the printer.
If you are looking for a reset, please let me know the issue the printer is having and what troubleshooting steps you have done to try and resolve it.
Cheers,
JERENDS

  • Needing a 'print preview' capability for HP Officejet Pro 8600 (model N911a)

Please provide a 'print preivew' capability via the HP 'print window' for the 8600 Pro.
I purchased this machine in early April 2014 after the prior printer (photosmart 410) 'threw-up' ink inside the printer.  The software with that Photosmart 410, prior (and perhaps some current) HP printers provide a 'print preview' capability.
I have several systems (some Windows Vista; some Win-7).  All are current with maintenace (including HP S/W & drivers).
The printer is ethernet-cable connected to a 'switch' and in-turn ethernet-cable connected to a wireless router.  Some PCs are also ethernet-cable connected; others are wireless connected.
The ability to do a 'print preview' via the HP S/W is not available on any system (i.e. via the 'print' window or subsequent windows, like 'Properties' or 'Advanced').
While some applications have a print preview capability, not all do.  Having that capability via the printer 'window (i.e via HP provide S/W) is necessary - it is useful to make sure formating is proper, allows for subsequent changes if needed, and provides the abiloity to see and select the printing of only some pages.
This issue and request has been raised several times - going back to 2012.  Just do a search on the Forum using keywords '8600' and 'preview'.  The following are a couple instances:

    Hi DragonflyFairy,
I understand you would like to know how to get the print preview when printing from the internet.
Depending on what browser you are using, you should have the option to do the print preview.
I have provided 3 different browsers with how to get to the print preview.
Internet Explorer: Go to file, print preview and make your adjustments.
Google Chrome: Go to the icon in the top right corner and click the icon with the 3 lines, click print, make your changes.
Firefox: Click on the tab Firefox dropdown and select print, print preview. Change your settings.
If you are missing the print preview, take a peek at these documents to see if it will help.
Unable to print or view the print preview of a webpage in Internet Explorer.

I came across this article that you may want to take a look at, if you are using Google Chrome.

  • I have an hp account. I am installing a new hp officejet pro 8600 to my apple lap top. I need help

I already have an hp account.  I need help with installing my new hp officejet pro 8600 to my mac lap top.  what is this printer's claim conde #  where do  enter this code that I received.  I need help

    Hi pwestra,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I see that you would like to learn how to install your Officejet 8600 printer to your Mac laptop and then setup the ePrint feature of the printer.
The first thing we need to do is to connect the printer to your wireless network. This can be easily accomplished from the front panel of the printer using the Wireless Setup Wizard. If you are unsure how to do this, the steps can be found on page 225 of your User Guide in the section titled “Set up the printer using the Wireless Setup Wizard”.
Now let’s get the printer installed onto your laptop. Please follow the steps in Installing the Printer Software on a Wireless or Wired (Ethernet) Network for the version of Mac OS X that you are running on your laptop.  You should now be able to print and scan wirelessly.
To setup the ePrint feature of the printer please start by following the steps in Getting the Printer Claim Code. Once you have the web services information sheet with the claim code you can use it to claim the printer and then Set Up a Custom Email Address for ePrint.
If things go awry while following the above, please let me know at what step things went askance and the contents of any error messages.

  • Hp Officejet Pro 8600 Plus network printing problems

I hard wired my Hp Officejet Pro 8600 plus with an ethernet cable to my router to enable other computers on my network to print to my printer.  Several problems have resulted because of this:
    1. I cannot find my printer in the Device Manager: it shows as an "unknown device"
    2. Sometimes pdf files will print and sometimes they will not. Word and Excel files sometimes print, and sometimes don't.
    3. Sometimes documents will spool, but then I get the following message: "Unable to communicate with printer." Then it asks me to make sure all cables are connected and power is on, which is the case.
I have tried all kinds of troubleshooting with information found in Hp forum and on Hp website. Finally, using the HP Print and Scan doctor, I deleted and reinstalled the printer and updated the Full software and drivers. Then I got a message saying "the printer is on your network, but the network software is unable to find it using the typical network discovery method. You can install the printer and operate it normally over the network using the IP address of your printer." I inserted the IP address and it took me through various steps to final installation.  I typed a short message into a new document on Microsoft Word and it printed, Then I tried to print some information from the HP website, but this did not print; it didn't even spool.
My router is not detecting the printer on the network either, the light on the port bearing the network cable connected directly to the printer has never been shown to be on, like the other lights. I have been struggling with this for the last several months.
I have an Hp computer, running on Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit). I prefer to use my printer over a network ethernet cable instead of wireless.  Please help!

I believe this is the cause of your problem.  First, try another known working port in the router.  Next, change the Ethernet cable with a known good cable.

  • HP officejet pro 8600 plus need to reset, but no screen access due to head error

    hi,
I had some HP's 8600 but one of them it is dead as printer and it was replaced.
I need to use it only as scanner (no printing since its problem are the printing heads). The problem I cannot access to the menu through the screen since it is stock with the message mentioning the fail on printing head. The next option it is to watch a demo about heads.
Im trying to access in order to fix a new static ip for the scan.
Is there a way to reset so the printing gets an dhcp ip add? So far the scanner works fine through USB connection.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello @Rodrigo_cl,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer has encountered a hardware Printhead failure and is not allowing you to scan using a static IP because of this. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue.
Now, due to the error on the front panel of the printer, you will not be able to perform any resets on your machine. But, if your printer is currently on the network with an automatic IP we can utilize the embedded web server to configure a static IP.
Is your printer currently on your wireless or wired network?
Once I know if your printer is currently on the network, I can guide you towards configuring the static IP through the computer. I look forward to hearing from you!

    hello..

In my experience I've found that when I don't do the reset before and after I invariably have problems. For example when I updated my N97 to the v22 firmware the auto-rotate function stopped working properly.
I actually also remove all apps and format the mass storage prior to the firmware update which ends up taking a ridiculously long time with the reloading of my media and maps but I now realize that I'll end up having to do it anyway so I might as well do it properly the first time.
It could just be the N97 as it's such a hunk of junk but I think it's more likely that it's an issue with the update process in S^1.

  • Resetting the administrative password on an Officejet PRO 8600

I lost much of the content of a 4 year old Mac when an electric short burned out the insides in a manner that Apple was unable to determine the causes. The end result is that I found that the administrative password for my 8600 died with the old Mac as I was unable to recover the Keychain which had all the password information in it. I wish now that more importance had been stressed in the instructions when passwords were being set-up, about the future need of them in order to utilize so many important features of the printer.I would very much appreciate any guidanc I can get in how to go about resetting the administrative password of my 8600.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are trying to reset the administrative password for your HP Officejet Pro 8600, and I am happy to help! You can do a reset of the printer using the LED screen on the printer. Select Setup, then Tools, then Restore Factory Defaults. "Restore Factory Defaults" is the last item on the list, and then you will have to scroll down to see it.
This will erase all settings on the printer including the administrator password. Hope this helps!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

  • Missing HP Utility (Officejet Pro 8600 Plus); need to reinstall - cannot uninstall printer software

I had to wipe my iMac and resinstall IOS Mavericks (10.9.5).  Printer (Officejet Pro 8600 Plus, 9N11g) is working, but will no longer scan (double-clicking icon results in "original item cannot be found") and the HP utility icon on dock is missing, replaced with a "?."  I located directions to uninstall printer software so I can reinstall... but there is no longer any HP folder or "HP Uninstaller" on my Mac HD.  Neither is there an HP folder within Library/Printers folders.  Spotlight search shows no HP or Hewlett-Packard folders on my hard drive.
I have downloaded an "HPPPrinterDrivers3.0.dmg" and "HP-Injket-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.37.dmg," one of which I'm hoping will contain updated software/drivers to reinstall the printer and hopefully the HP Utility so I can regain scanning function, but I cannot figure out how to remove the current printer software, and I do not know if those are the currect files to use.  I understand just deleting the printer will not suffice.
Can anyone provide step-by-step instructions on how to remove the software as well as installation (since I am unclear if I have the correct dmg files)?  Thank you.

    Hi,
First I would suggest repairing the disk permissions, then try reinstalling the HP Software.
Follow the steps below to repair the disk permissions:
    1. Open the the Applications folder.
    2. Go to the Utilities folder.
    3. Double-click on Disk Utility.
    4. Select the hard drive containing the boot volume.
    5. Go to the First Aid tab and select Repair Disk Permissions.
Note: This process may take several minutes depending on the Mac and amount of permissions that need to be repaired. The Progress Log will indicate when the process has been completed.
Once you are done, run the HP-Injket-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.37.dmg file and follow the steps on screen, be sure to select the HP Scan option while installing to get full functionality of the software.
Please try the steps above and let me know the results,

  • How do I reset to default or change static IP address on HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium printer?

How do I reset setting to default or change static IP address on HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium printer?

Hi,Tap the right arrow and then tap the Setup icon.Tap the Network option and select Restore Network Defaults.Confirm any prompt to restore the default network settings, it will remove any manual IP configuration. If you are wirelessly connected to the network, select Wireless Setup Wizard and select your network to reconnect the printer wirelessly. Regards,Shlomi

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus (UK purchase) will not connect to wired ethernet network

    Hi
We have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus (purchase here in UK approx 9-12 months ago) which has sort of worked OK wirelessly but finance industry compliance requirements now require me to connect to it by normal ethernet cable.
When I disable wireless and plug in a (tested and working) ethernet cable it does nothing.  I have done a factory reset (via the screen menu) to remove any previous settings.  Turned off, turned on, still nothing.
I have restored Network defaults also using the menu command within settings - network; no difference.
In Network - wired summary the screen says:
    IP: Not applicable
MAC: xxxxxxxxxxx (not for sharing here)
Hostname: xxxxxxxxx (not for sharing here)
    Wireless Direct: Off
I have tried it with IP settings turned to Automatic (DHCP) - no joy.
I have tried it with IP settings turned to Manual(Static) - when i then type in the static IP address that is within the router range (but outside the DHCP reserved range) as soon as I press Done, the settings are lost i.e. 192.168.0.102 - push 'Done' and the IP goes back to 000.000.000.000
The same when entering the default gateway and subnet masks.
I have restored to defaults several times, tried manual and DHCP several times, no joy.
Please let me have some serious suggestions at the earliest opportunity.  Just to reiterate I have tested the network connection and cables with other ethernet equipment and they are working.  My questions include:
    1.   Anyone know how to make this printer actually store the manually entered IP addresses etc?
    2.  What am I missing about the wired setup?
    3.  Is this a known issue?  Is it an issue with the hardware ethernet socket or something?
    4.  Also in this forum there are references to a Hard Factory reset that is apparently different to the menu 'Reset to Factory Defaults' but links to an article about it just give a 404 error, not found.  [Does HP actually have two different levels of Factory Default and if so, God knows why!  Does anyone know a working link to this information please?

Hello Qw8, welcome to the forums!
I read your post about not being able to successfully install your Officejet 8600 Plus to your wired network. I will do my best to find suggestions for you to try. I would first like to know which Operating System you are installing the printer on to help me with my research.
If you haven't already, run the installation (HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g Drivers) with your security and firewalls disabled to see if the proper connection can be made.
I do see you ask about other resets and there are others however, at this stage they may not be needed. If they are, I can send you a private message at that time with that information.
Please let me know your OS and we will go from there!

  • I can print a test page from my Mac to my HP Officejet Pro 8600 but nothing else will print

Hi - I just recently had a hard drive crash and had to revert to an old Time Machine backup on my new hard drive to get my Mac back.  Since getting back up and running I have been unable to get my Officejet Pro 8600 back online.  My computer is wired to the wireless router but the printer is running wireless.  My computer can see the printer just fine and I can even print a "Print Quality Diagnostic" report from my Mac to the printer from the HP utility.  But nothing else will print.  The firmware is up to date.  I have tried resetting the printing system multiple times, rebooting the machine, etc... Nothing works.  Any help would be appreciated.
If it helps, we were using a different printer the last time the time machine was backed up, so when we used that backup the old printer was showing, but I reset the printing system, so it shouldn't matter.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Locked features on HP Officejet Pro 8600

I have HP Officejet Pro 8600.  I had to get new router, but cannot get printer connected.  Several features are locked by administrator (which would be me), one of these is wireless setup wizard, which I need.  How do I unlock these features?  I don't remember ever locking anything on the thing.

    Hi @Jokester,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that several features are locked on your HP Officejet pro 8600, and that you cannot get it connected. I am happy to look into this issue for you!
I would start with trying a hard reset, by going to this post, How to perform a Hard Reset, by @Rich1. It is also important, to make sure the printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, and not a surge protector. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
If you have a USB printer cable, and the full feature software installed, you can also try a USB Setup of Wireless. Convert from a USB connected printer to wireless.
    Hope this information helps!
