Need internal power cable

Hi,
I wish to install a USB 3.0 expansion PCIe card in my early 2008 Mac Pro (3,1).  The card has a 4 pin Molex power connector;  I think it's same connector one finds for power on a parallel IDE drive.  I believe I need to connect this to the 6 pin connector on my motherboard?  Anyone know where I can get a cable?
(PS: I posted this earlier, by mistake, in the iMac forum.  So this is a duplicate posting.  Apologies!!!)

Mac Pro 4,1 is the 2009 model with SATA cabling ONLY, so it would require a different cable.
After powering off, the Optical drive enclosure is really easy to remove halfway to inspect and/or disconnect the cables (no fasteners required). Once the cables are disconnected from the drives, it can be completely removed and you can stretch out the cables and see if they will fall short, and estimate how much more would be needed.
I am sure 72" is far more than you need -- they may even reach already.
Thanks, Grant. I will examine the connections. My project is to add USB 3.0 card reader or other devices to the PCI expansion card I'm planning to get.
Do you know if there are two separate DVD/CD drive power cables in the stock Mac Pro 3,1 or just a single with a Y cable between them? That is the model I have. If only one cable of the two used there, can stretch out the other one, then I'd be golden- nothing to add.
However, I suspect that there is a Y cable there for the second DVD drive, so I would need to connect to it and extend it down to the PCI card residing in the X4 PCIe port. Yes, 6' is overkill but I can eat some up by routing the cable neatly, the rest will bundle. Probably 48" would be sufficient. That costs more to make than it is worth.
When I take it apart, I can post pictures for anyone interested. FYI, recently put in an external antenna for the BT antenna to prevent/minimize interference with USB 3.0. Made a big improvement in level of the trackpad reception, too. USB crosstalk should be reduced and cable pickup will be reduced with the RF suppressors I used on the extension cable from the USB card reader to the card.

  • Need ATI X1900 internal power cable

    Hi all,
A friend gave me an ATI X1900 video card but didn't have the internal power cable for the video card. I have a Nov. 2007 Mac Pro that already has an ATI X1900. I would like to add this "new" ATI X1900 as a secondary video card.
Where can I get the needed power cable? Is there any else I need to watch out for?
    Any info will be appreciated.

High power cards, such as the ATI X199, should be used only in slots 1 or 2. Slots 3 and 4 are for low power cards.

  • Need new power cable for Tecra M10

Good morning. My Tecra M10 power cable has split (after 4 years use). Can somebody point me to the correct product to order?
I have more information if required.
    Kind regards

    Hi
You need a new AC adaptor.
The AC adaptor should support the following values: 15V x 5A
From my knowledge the AC adaptor with the part number PA3378E-3AC3 should be compatible.
Usually you should be able to order the compatible AC adaptor from Toshiba authorized service provider in your country or google simply using the mentioned part number to get a list of online resellers.

  • I need a power cable for an AirPort Express

    Hi,
When I went from a DSL service to Comcast, I had to move my AirPort Express to a spot in the house without a convienent power strip, so I stole the power cord from my spare power adapter for my MacBook.  Therefore, I now need to get an extra power cord.  Unfortunately, I can't find the power cable by itself on the on-line Apple Store and the folks at the brick and mortar store suggest I just by another $79 power adapter since it comes with a poer cord (but isn't that a bit overkill?).
Does anyone know a part number?  Perhaps I can order one if I just have that number.
    Thanks,
    Rob

I'm not aware that Apple sells the extended power cable by itself, but they do (or did) sell it along with audio cables as part of a kit, called the "AirPort Express Stereo Connection Kit with Monster Cables." It is Part #: M9573LL/A.
You may also find that by contacting Apple Support directly they may be able to provide this cable or check out outfits like Other World Computing (OWC) or DV Warehouse. Also, I just ran a Google search and came up with the following set of links: Apple Power Cord

  • Need replacement power cable

Where can I get a replacement power cable for Airport Extreme? I found one at my local electronics store but it doesn't fit- it looks right and says it's for Airport extreme but it doesn't actually connect to the base station- it looks similar but doesn't fit, it might be a different/older model I guess?
I'm not sure how to tell what airport I have, I didn't buy it, it was given to me by my sister(who lost the cable) but on the box it says 'MB053LL/A Model No. A1143' if that helps... Sorry this is somewhat vague, but anyway if anyone can point me at an online store where I might be able to get a replacement part (hopefully apple?) that'd be much appreciated.

Unfortunately, Apple has been applying the term "Extreme" to AirPorts since their original 11g units. The power supply you want should be marked "A1202", and it has big round corners and a recessed Apple logo.

  • Need New Power Cable

My power cable is getting frayed, but I don't see a replacement for sale at the Apple Store. What's up with that?
I have the kind that's a standard plug for a wall outlet, attached to a cable, attached to a "hub" thingy (I think it acts as a surge protector), attached to a thin wire, which plugs into my iBook.
Do they not make these anymore? Am I supposed to use a Firewire instead?

There are third party choices for an adapter:
    MCE Technologies
    http://www.madsonline.com/index.html?
    MacAlly adapter at Amazon.com
    adapter at Other World Computing
I believe the one from Other World Computing is one of the sturdiest of the lot. The MacAlly adapter's cord is a bit flimsier than the one from Other World Computing, but both are working fine on our iBooks. We haven't tried the pricier ones.
The iPod adapter will not work with an iBook nor will the iBook adapter work with the iPod.

  • Mac Pro international power cable

Hello everyone, I am currently abroad, but would like to purchase the Mac Pro via the UK online store to be able to profit from student discount (I study in the UK). I realize that if I order the Mac Pro in the UK store, it will come with a UK power lead. Given that I am currently abroad, is there a way to buy the power lead for my specific country (I don't know if it's a good idea to run the Mac Pro through a plug converter 24/7)?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

You just need a pin converter and it's alright to use.

  • Power cable shortage in Mega 180?

    Hi all,
I'm a bit new to this whole forum thing, but could do with some help re: graphics card in my Mega 180. Here goes...
I have a Mega 180 (CPU 3200) and am currently using a GeForce 4200GT AGP graphics card. I've wanted to upgrade to something a little smoother so went and ordered a 128mb Sparkle GeForce 6600GT AGP. Well it arrived this morning and after sticking it in I realised it needs a power cable like the one going into the optical drive (my 4200GT didn't need this). Looking around the guts of the computer, though, I can't find another power cable spare.
Any ideas if there's a way around this problem or I am just not destined to have a better graphics card?
I've had a look at the sticky for the 180 and searched the forum a bit but haven't found any answers yet. As I say, I'm a bit new so if I'm being blatently stupid and missing something crucial here, please let me know! Thanks

  • I live in the US but am moving to the UK. I have a iMac and want to know if I can just exchange the power cable or will I need a transformer to be able to use it there?

I have had my iMac for about a year and have just found out that I am moving to the UK from the US. I want to take it but I don't want to damage it. Can I just get a replacement power cable in the UK (like the international switchable plugs for iPads) or will I have to use a step-down transformer? Thanks

Just the plug-end needs changed.  I the UK you should beable to find the cord that plugs into the back of the iMac and has the correct wall-end.

  • Extra power cable needed for a SATA drive in a G4 AGP "Sawtooth"?

If one adds a SATA controller card and a SATA hard drive to a G4 AGP "Sawtooth", will a power cable like the one at the below link be needed, or would the necessary power cabling ordinarily come with the drive?

    -John

Thanks for the additional information, japamac.
That would be Left (or right angle 270º) for the data cable.
Which of the below data cables would be more appropriate, the 18" long one or the 39" long one?
    [http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Micro%20Accessories/SATA39L>
Power connectors would be a left angle 90º to get wires going up.
I found the below two (the first is the same one linked near the top of this thread):

Is it okay to have one of the ends of a "Y" cable remain unconnected? I've done that with my existing ATA power cables, but I wanted make sure that that is also okay with the SATA power cables.

If it's a 6-pin pcie cable just use one of the y-connectors.  Otherwise google "6-pin pcie aux power connector" for any number of sources to buy this.

  • Need to ID G4 part:socket came off logic board (blue & white power cable

In the course of disassembling a G4 iBook the socket for the blue & white power cable wiring harness broke off the logic board.
I am trying to learn the correct desciption of this part so I can find a replacement. The wires on the bottom which were soldered to the board broke off.
Even after it was broken off, and I had leverage, I had to use two pairs of pliers to get the plug out of this socket. It should never have been assembled so tightly.

Spud-- I'm going to use conductive epoxy; I don't have access to anyone with micro soldering skills.
re previous posts -- unfortunately the Search logic is not precise enough to ask about this particular connector. Any search containing "logic board" gets swamped with the famous failure issue.
I went to an electronics specialty store and they didn't have any connectors of that style, let alone size. I'd like to replace the socket so I can use the existing plug on the blue & white wire.
Last night I spend some hours surfing "connector" etc and didn't see any photos that matched it on any distributor/manufacturer sites. So I'm still wondering what the correct descriptive word is, as used in the trade.
My "backup" iBook G3/Panther is taking about 30 seconds to load an average web page though. Spinner locks it up while loading one at a time. Wonder if installing Tiger and a newer Safari would help? I just got a chip to max out the memory, still have to install it.
For those who haven't seen it, the plug is a solid rectangle with two holes; the socket has a rectangular single cavity with two prongs sticking up from the bottom. TINY, THIN prongs.
The socket bottom has no leads on it (anymore). They are broken off flush with the plastic on the bottom. I was thinking of using a dental burr to grind into them, creating a small cavity, and then using conductive epoxy. I don't know if the bottom plastic is thick enough; if I go too far then it would ruin the prongs sticking up in the cavity.
But I could epoxy a wire stub, as long as possible to still fit into the space above the board & below the top of the shield/case. Then epoxy each wire to the pad on the board. The pads are about 1 mm x 2 mm or less, and worse, the gap between them is under 1mm wide. I'll have to goop some insulating silicone putty in that gap before putting tiny dabs of epoxy on the pads.
I bought some larger socket/plugs at the store, the socket part has no leads in it though. These sockets are they type that use the wire lead of the style shown in your photo of the repaired plug. I also got some different ones with flat prongs.
I'd like to move the connection point from the board to under the case top -- the blue & white wire runs all the way from the other side of the case. I just need a thin enough connector. Worst case -- leave as much slack wire length as possible and solder a Western Union splice.
If I can epoxy leads to the board without shorting between the pads I can figure something out. Need to carefully estimate the space available. Or as you say, just make some prongs.
You say #26 is the right wire gauge -- that's vital data. I don't want to undersize the power leads !
I'm also going to paint non-conductive coating on the board around the pad area, so I can slop the epoxy without worrying about shorting a trace. I've had to do some scraping to remove the gummy gluey stuff -- I presume its silicone adhesive of some kind.
There is some sort of test connection right above this area, with two little prongs sticking up. Marked "J1." The traces look like they go to the socket. I wonder if they use that to use alligator clips to power up the board during assembly testing? That location is much, much larger than the pads for the socket.
