NEED iPHOTO HELP ASAP

This is the second night in a row my iPhoto has randomly uploaded 10 of thousands oh photos of garbage that i do not need! Last night over 80,000....tonight it just went back to over 60k. I don't know why it is doing this and i don't have to the time to be deleting 70,000 photos a day! Especially since I'm an amateur photographer trying to make money with my photos. Anyone ever heard of this or know what is going on?!?

While it has been reported a few times there has been no definative cause identified - the best guess is an interverent action by the user acccidentially draging their hard drive icon onto iPhoto and improting all images from it

Can't boot Lenovo Yoga 10+ HD, need some help ASAP!

I am a bit clueless here. I just purchased the Yoga 10+ HD tablet and all was fine. Today I realised that my power button is constantly blinking (every 3 seconds). I cant boot the tablet the usual way by pressing the button. Clicking on it for more than 10 seconds won't change anything eiter. What is this and how can I get my tablet back to work?
PS: If I connect my tablet to my PC I get more than 12+ harddrives which can't be accessed and differ between 550kb up to 12gb.
I seriously need some help. I think its somehow in sleep mode or so. I don't know how to fix this.

Need iphoto help please

Hello. I am currently running 10.5.4 on my 1.8ghz single processor g5. I just purchased a new mac pro, and I would like to copy my photos from my old iphoto to my new iphoto. (I do not have the new computer set up yet—I would like first get some ideas on the best way of transferring/backing up).
I have a little bit of an issue. I think I screwed around with my iPhoto folders a little because I changed the location of my photos to my external drive and I think I may have messed around with the folders. In my "pictures" folder, I have three main folders. I think I created the first two separately for some reason—maybe as an attempt at a backup last year?
1. 2001-2006 photos
2. 2007 photos
3. iphoto library
Basically, I have currently have over 10,000 photos in my iphoto library. I was hoping to archive some of the older photos so that I do not have to transfer all of the 10,000 photos to my new computer. What is the best way of doing this? I still want to keep the old photos, but I figured I would burn them on a DVD to archive, but I no longer want them in my iphoto library. I want to be able to pick and choose which photos I am going to transfer to my new computer. In iPhoto, I have all of my photos categorized into folders, but it doesn't seem to categorize them like that in the iphoto library (it does it by rolls?). It also contains folders called "modified," "originals," etc. Any idea how I can for example choose that "Tara's Wedding" Photo folder can be archived, but not transferred?
I apologize for the lengthy post, but I want to be sure I am getting my point across. Thanks so much in advance for your help!

1. You need to do this in iPhoto and not through the iPhoto Library Folder in the Finder. The changes you make in iPhoto will be reflected there but Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
2. Simply: Any photos, albums or folders of albums you want to archive: Select them in the iPhoto Window and use the Share -> Burn command to burn them to disk. This will make a “mini” iPhoto Library on the Disk so that if you need to access these files popping the disk into your Mac means it will show up in the iPhoto Window and you can drag them back to your Library there.
3. Having archived the pics (and then tested the disks to make sure that all is well) put the pics you no longer want into the iPhoto trash and empty it (iPhoto Menu -> Empty trash. Tip: Do this in batches of about 100 or so. Iphoto baulks at trashing too many pics at a time). This removes the pics from the iPhoto Window and the Hard DIsk
4. To move the Library to the new machine: Copy the iPhoto Library Folder from your Pictures Folder to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine. Then launch iPhoto. That’s all. +There’s no importing involved+.

Thinking of moving to Mac from PC--need iPhoto help

I'm thinking about getting my wife a Mac to replace her PC to get a better computing experience. She's not very computer-literate, and the frequent Windows lockups and other problems are causing much frustration.
She mainly works with digital photos, creating slide shows for family members to view on their macs, pcs, and tv sets. She currently uses Photoshop Elements 5 for WIndows for her work. It's my understanding that there are some differences between PSE5 for Windows and PSE6 for the Max. The Windows version has Organizer, which is the component that allows you to organize photos (tagging, etc) and create slide shows. The Mac version uses something called Bridge.
My wife spends most her time creating albums, slide shows, printing pictures and the like, but she only does light editing. I'm thinking that she may be better off with something iPhoto than with Elements. One issue we have with PSE5 is that it creates photo cds, not true dvds, and the quality of slide shows played on a tv set isn't very good. Another issue concerns how we'd do the conversion. I guess we'd lose the slide shows we've already created, but can we preserve the photo takes?
I'm really flying blind here, having never worked with a mac or iphoto. Any help or advice from this community would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can't use Bridge and iPhoto together. Metadata added via bridge will cause problems with iPhoto. To use Photoshop or PSE with iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

I am so screwed! In need of help ASAP!

I switched out my old HD for a new 500GB HD. Cloned it using SuperDuper, upgraded to Leopard from Tiger on the new HD and updated it. I then wanted to change my home user or short name and followed these instructions:

Followed all the steps until number 8. I realized that it's more accounts and so I deleted the newly created account. Logged off from root, logged in my usual Admin user and poof, all files are gone and it's just like a fresh new installed of Leopard.
I booted up using my old HD in my enclosure, reformatted the new HD. I then used SuperDuper, Carbon Copy and Disk Utility to clone again but all failed due to errors. I found the problem, applications missing in my Application folder, the file is there but the icon is invisible. When I tried deleting it, it stated that there's an error and could not be deleted -43. I used Disk Utility and repaired the old HD, repaired failed. I then restart and try to boot again using the old HD, and now, I can't boot anymore and the laptop just shuts down itself.
THIS IS RIDICULOUS. These are all the steps I've listed and I don't know how to continue!
Please help!

I'm guessing you didn't prep your new drive. Do the following (you will need to boot from your external drive:)
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU. Now use SuperDuper! or your favorite cloning utility to clone your system from the external drive to the new internal drive.

Need some help asap! Please

I'm typing up a long paper, and I have a outline that I made in outline form.
ie -
I.
A. xxxxx
B. xxxxxxx
Now what I want to do is go under each line in my outline and make remarks. What I want to do is start my comment where the first letter of the outline is (for instance, under the first "x" of letter A.)
What I'm doing is going to the inspector and change the option under "follow paragraph style" to "free form", then I hit enter, tab over, and it works. But every time I to go the time line it goes back to "original" and I have to change it back to "free form"
Is there a way to keep it on "Free form" so I can just in my outline? is there any eaiser way to do what I'm trying to do? I really need to get this done tonight.

You need to redefine your list style.
What you are going to do is the 3rd level will be indented but have no number.
Create a sample of the list text with only the 3 levels
Select the 3rd level text and go:
+Inspector > Text > List > Bullets & Numbering > No Bullets+
This will be indented too far in.
With the 3rd level still selected:
+Inspector > Text > List > Bullets & Numbering > Text Indent: 0.2 cm (in my case)+
till it aligns with above.
Now select the whole range of the 3 level list:
+Menu > View > Show Styles Drawer > List Styles > click on tiny triangle > Create New List Style from Selection… > Give name > OK+
Use that as your list style from now on.

In a Bind and Needing Some Help ASAP

I need my MacBook Pro with Safari (latest version) and OS X 10.6.6 tomorrow for a presentation and I tried just like I did with the last Flash update to install it and I messed things up. TechTracker told me there was an update for Flash so I clicked "yes" to download and install. I am new to TechTracker and installing Flash, but whatever happened my MacBook is not useable right now and it was before I clicked "OK" to update Flash.
I also tried it on my own, but there must be more detailed instructions than what Adobe makes obvious to newbies (Flash update newbies).
since I use Safari as my browser, it shows what plug-ins I have on a webpage that is part of Safari browser. First off, is it too early to update to the latest version of Flash? is this a program that I should wait awhile when a newer version comes out?
If it is OK to go ahead and update Flash, can somebody lead me to a link or website that explains how to update Flash? it obviously is not like other programs, because I have done the install ust like I would other programs or updates but I am not getting it right.
I would really appreciate it if somebody could guide me through the process or send me to a site that explains what I need to do.
Finally, I have heard that Shockwave Player (which is not installed on my macBook Pro) is a great program along with Flash to have on my macBook pro. is this true or am I risking causing more conflicts and/or problems by installing shockwave for macs once I get Flash straightened out.

Need Bittorrent Help ASAP! Willing to Pay!

Hello,
I am currently at the University of Georgia and trying to get bittorrent to work. The client I am using is transmission, and I am working on a macbook The download speed will not pass much over 1kb/s. I know that the torrents I am trying are healthy and would normally download from my house at around 100kb/s. If someone can help me solve this, I would be more than happy to paypal them some money. Remember, I am in a dorm at a major university so I have no access to the router or anything.

I would be more than happy to paypal them some money.Eric, everyone here is on a volunteer basis and routinely works their tails off to help folks with their issues. Offering money is not only unnecessary but a violation of the Terms of Use. If someone takes you up on it, decline. You can get advice just as good or better for nothing.
It does sound like a shared bandwidth issue.
Also, remember that any Mac could be cracked/hacked. If you use common sense the odds against it happening are long. If you use a bittorrent client the odds get better.
You can protect yourself by using your firewall and/or a hard wired router, downloading only from "trusted" sites, installing all security updates and being careful about what you give administrative power to.
Don't use Limewire or any other P2P service to download your software, get it from reputable sources. In addition, always keep at least your users backed up, preferably a clone of your entire system on a separate disk. And put your sensitive passwords, bank accounts, credit card numbers in a "secure note" in a new keychain or in an encrypted folder.
You can also use these online security tests to see how secure your Mac is.

I need Urgent Help ASAP!!! ipod classic is now a mini??!!!

I just got a new 80gb ipod classic for christmas yesterday. All was going well while i was using it all day and putting music and podcasts on it but later that night I went to help my sister put music on my old ipod mini for her to have it and when i re attached my ipod the ipod graphics look miniesc! THe do not dissconnect stays on continuously and seems to have many problems now. Also before this happened it began acting slower and my computer told me a restore wasn eeded AFter i did the restore my brand new ipod now looks like an old one! How do I fix this!?!?!?!?

If your iPod is recognized in "my computer", changing the drive letter can sometimes resolve this "can't mount iPod" issue.
Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.

OMG you updated Firefox last night and wiped out ALL my docs, photos, tabs, downloads, history EVERYTHING. Need BIG HELP ASAP. Tkx. 4/16/13

My computer shut itself down overnight. The only clue I have is Firefox announcing that it's now all updated. BUT my entire computer has been stripped. In addition to loss of tabs, bookmarks, history, there are no docs, no photos, no downloads, missing software, the entire tree of folders is *gone* including the docs I was working on for a.m. client meetings. Nothing in the trash folder.
Firefox has messed with its own settings before but today it seems to have viciously reset my computer to nearly naked.
I realize that you understand how serious this is. Surely it has happened to others. Please, please have a fast and effective solution. Thank you.

Firefox can't Reset your computer's profile. what most likely happened is you are having a problem with your computer, and it got started up in a default profile (and Firefox probably didn't update last night, it may have given that message because Firefox's profile was gone too).
Do you get a message like "Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system" in the bottom right hand corner when you start your computer? If so, contact a reputable local computer repair company, they can assist with recovering your data.

Trying to boot from usb need help ASAP

Hi. I think I have pretty similar problem on notebook HP Compaq NX6110 with crashed CD-ROM.
I've prepared the bootable USB drive using this procedure (with a small modification because I want to intall Windows XP):

Anyway, in bios setup I change the boot device options so that the "USB hard drive" is set as "the first" and USB Superdrive (slt) is set to the second... I save the settings etc. I restart the computer and in the blue boot menu that appears I can only choose Notebook harddrive and Optical drive (no USB).
Any ideas? Is it possible that this notebook does not support USB booting thought there is an option is BIOS?
