Need Ipod Update but won't update!

My itunes and ipod say that i need the latest ipod update software which i downloaded and installed, however it won't update on my ipod now i can't put new music from the music store on my ipod.....i don't know how to get the latest software update on my ipod i won't work
HELP!

Steve,
It sounds like you are having the same problem as me, I found this suggestion in another discussion and it worked...
Download the update, but skip using the Installer...
"...get around it by going to Applications -> Utilities -> iPod Software Updater and install version 2.3 of the iPod software directly, without the install package.
Before that, trying to copy purchased music to the iPod (since iTunes 5) failed with the "iPod software too old" message, and when we tried to install the package for the 2005-09-23 updater, it said the iPod couldn't be updated because it needed OS 10.2.8 or higher (we're on 10.4.2). But by executing the updater from the folder above, we saw that version 2.2 was installed on the iPod, and clicking "Update" after launching the updater directly got us to version 2.3 of the iPod software. Then we were able to transfer newly purchased music to the iPod again."

I have an iPod Touch and an iPad4. iTunes recognises both items and lets me work with the iPod Touch but won't work with the iPad. In fact iTunes does not respond to clicking on anything in the iPad window even though it knows that it's connected. Any ideas?

Look her and it may give insite on what is missing. Otherwise:

  • Need iPod updater file

With iTunes 7.0.2, it appears that the only way to get my iPod Shuffle 512MB updated (to v.1.1.4) is through iTunes.
I simply can't. My system does not support having, on USB ports, an external hard drive, my iPod (and iTunes) and Internet access at the same time: it freezes hard.
Otherwise, it used to work fine as long as I don't mix the iPod with the Internet access.
I need to get the iPod Updater file before starting iTunes to update my iPod (unless I can update without iTunes). It used to work like this before :-/
I tried solutions proposed on the Apple site like cleaning up the system to no avail. My situation is not specifically documented.
    Any help on this?
    TIA

    ... okaaaaaaay ...
i can think of a workaround that might fit your circumstances. but it's a tad risky (in that it involves trying to "fix something that isn't broken").
since you've got a first gen shuffle and you're wanting to drop the 1.1.4 firmware on there, you might be able to do it by downloading and running the iPod Shuffle reset utility:
About the iPod shuffle Reset Utility
... using the utility to upgrade a shuffle isn't really what it's for. it's intended for cases in which normal restores aren't working. hence i'm a bit nervous about trying this in your case if your shuffle is otherwise perfectly functional.

  • Ipod recognized but won't update

I am getting a new error message on my ipod when I connect. It is recognized but then it says"the Ipod cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-50)" Can anyone help?
    Jim

First try resetting the iPod. Do it a few times to make sure everything reset properly (per Apple's recommendation). If that doesn't work, then you might want to try a Restore on the iPod.
Instructions for both can be found by clicking on the Support tab above, then you should see a section about the "5 Rs". One is reset and the other is restore.

  • ITunes won't recognize iPod, iPod charges but won't play

When I connect my nano, it goes to the Do Not Disconnect screen, but my iTunes does not recognize the nano, so I can't update songs/playlists. It charges, but when I try to play - after I select a song - it goes to that song, but doesn't play and then skips to the next song and the next and the next and nothing plays. I reset the nano and reinstalled iTunes but problem still exists. Any thoughts? Thanks!

iPod will charge and play, but is not recognized by iTunes.
It seems as it is on the hard drive only.

  • IPod connected, but won't transfer songs

I'm having some trouble getting my new songs onto my iPod mini.
I plug the iPod in, and the document files show up on the screen, but in the iTunes file, my iPod doesn't show as updating. The iPod itself isn't showing up anywhere at all. Any helpful advice here would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Classic iPOD syncs but won't download???

I have an older classic photo 64gb iPOD. I am unable to download songs after it syncs with my iTune library. I have updated the ipod; I have rebooted the ipod;I have authorized the ipod for home sharing............ What next? Model number is A1099. Thanks for your help.

Automatic syncing is based on how you have the iPod's Music tab set up.  Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.  This tab is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.  Make sure Sync Music is checked.
If your entire iTunes Music library fits on your iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Then, every change to your iTunes Music library should sync to the iPod, because "everything" is on the iPod.
Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, you create your selection of songs by selecting playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres.  Apply the change to sync your selection to the iPod.
NOTE:  Your iPod's current content will be replaced by your song selection on the Music tab, when you click Apply.
Songs that are NOT included in your selection on the Music tab will not sync to the iPod.

  • Can't open Photoshop CC-says need to reinstall but won't reinstall

I activated the free trial and used Photoshop- it was perfect. Now 2 days later, when I try to open the application, an error message comes saying that some application components are missing from the application directory and to please reinstall the application. But, when I go to the Create Cloud Installer and click on Photoshop, it says "up to date" in the column and won't reinstall or do anything really.... I tried putting the existing app in the trash, but that's not helping....

  • My ipod charges but won't tell me when it is!

My ipod charges fine, but it all of a sudden just stopped telling me when it was charging, i plug it in and the screen turns itself off instead of changing to the screen that has the picture of the battery and how full it is, it also does not show up on the corner battery picture that doesnt change either. what do i do? how do i fix it?

Did you already try to reset the ipod by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches after installing new apps of software.
If this does not help, try to set it up as new device, explained in this article:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device

I saw a thread saying to purchase the newest software (that was posted a few years ago) I paid 4.95 for the software and it's still saying it can't be updated.  Am I just SOL??

The 1G iPod can only go as high as 3.1.3. The 1G does not have an internal speaker or volume buttons on the upper left edge.

I purchased the new gen 7 ipod nano and needed to update itunes to 10.7 but my current software says its up to date and won't download 10.6.8 Currently I have 10.5.8 Why won't this update?

The first generation Intel-based Mac's were released in January 2006.
Snow Leopard requires an Intel processor:
    General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
If you go to the Apple menu & "About this Mac" this will tell you what type of processor you have:

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
10.6.8 is needed for full compatibility with the iPod Touch. You can upgrade to Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements, but it is not needed to use your new iPod.
