Need iPod updater file

With iTunes 7.0.2, it appears that the only way to get my iPod Shuffle 512MB updated (to v.1.1.4) is through iTunes.
I simply can't. My system does not support having, on USB ports, an external hard drive, my iPod (and iTunes) and Internet access at the same time: it freezes hard.
Otherwise, it used to work fine as long as I don't mix the iPod with the Internet access.
I need to get the iPod Updater file before starting iTunes to update my iPod (unless I can update without iTunes). It used to work like this before :-/
I tried solutions proposed on the Apple site like cleaning up the system to no avail. My situation is not specifically documented.
Any help on this?
TIA

... okaaaaaaay ...
i can think of a workaround that might fit your circumstances. but it's a tad risky (in that it involves trying to "fix something that isn't broken").
since you've got a first gen shuffle and you're wanting to drop the 1.1.4 firmware on there, you might be able to do it by downloading and running the iPod Shuffle reset utility:
About the iPod shuffle Reset Utility
... using the utility to upgrade a shuffle isn't really what it's for. it's intended for cases in which normal restores aren't working. hence i'm a bit nervous about trying this in your case if your shuffle is otherwise perfectly functional.

I worked around by bowworing an Ethernet PCMCIA card from the office. I then could access Internet and connect my iPod without freezing the laptop. I managed to upgrade the iPod! To bad there isn't a way to get the updater though.

  • Why does itunes constantly need to update files?

I update my files manually on my iPod touch. Whenever it is plugged in, every few minutes iTunes says, "updating files," and takes a moment to update, I suppose. But while it is doing this, my iTunes becomes unresponsive if I try to do anything; play or change a song, or make changes to artist, album, etc on any song. As I am constantly updating my files to include album name, art, and other things, it seems to become unresponsive and need to be restarted almost every time I use iTunes. This is very aggrivating and I don't know how to make it stop??

Try posting in the iTunes forum.

  • Ipod updater file size

is it true that when you download a newer version of an ipod updater it takes space in your ipod's memory? some people said that we really cannot use all the memory space in an ipod...why? if true, then what is the standard memory in an ipod that will never be used..? hope you guys have an answer...

Simply downloading iPod Update software doesn't use any memory of the iPod at all. What I think may answer your actual question, though, is that no, a 1 GB iPod shuffle will not hold 1 gigabyte of music files.
As stated in the tech specs, 1 gigabyte is the raw space; there's less available after the device is formatted so it can be used. Then, and this is where installing the updater comes in, there's software needed to operate the iPod. Since iTunes says the songs on my shuffle use 986.7 MB with 3.9 MB left for use (disk use is not enabled), you'd surmise that about 10 MB is used by the system. That's not the same thing as saying the memory will never be used, though.
This is a 1 GB shuffle with the most recent software installed. Results will vary, of course.

  • The latest iPod Updater File is the problem...

I called Apple today and the cust. support guy confirmed with me that they acknowledge there is an "issue" with the latest file (dated Oct '05). He says it's not a problem, just an issue. I say by the number of people on here complaining, it's a problem. Call Apple to complain, that's the only way to get things fixed.

i am an extremely experienced mac user. i have a home network with five macs. i own 4 differnt ipods including 2 shuffles. the shuffles are no longer recognized and in fact, no longer usable. when i try and play, all i get is alternating green and yellow lights. ipods show up as being connected in the system profiler under the usb ports. they do not show up in itunes or in the finder. all macs are well maintained with the latest updates. all music is ripped frrom purchased CDs. No piriate music or software is present on any machine on the network. the ipod shuffles are both dead now, unusable and are not recognized by any version of the ipod updater.
help help help! and don't just send me to the standard help pages. i have read all the articles and tried all of the proposed solutions. i have run the disk utility on all machines and have found no problems. all disk permissions are verified and repaired. THis is an APPLE problem that I hope you solve soon.
    Please respond!

  • Need Ipod Update but won't update!

My itunes and ipod say that i need the latest ipod update software which i downloaded and installed, however it won't update on my ipod now i can't put new music from the music store on my ipod.....i don't know how to get the latest software update on my ipod i won't work
    HELP!

    Steve,
It sounds like you are having the same problem as me, I found this suggestion in another discussion and it worked...
Download the update, but skip using the Installer...
"...get around it by going to Applications -> Utilities -> iPod Software Updater and install version 2.3 of the iPod software directly, without the install package.
Before that, trying to copy purchased music to the iPod (since iTunes 5) failed with the "iPod software too old" message, and when we tried to install the package for the 2005-09-23 updater, it said the iPod couldn't be updated because it needed OS 10.2.8 or higher (we're on 10.4.2). But by executing the updater from the folder above, we saw that version 2.2 was installed on the iPod, and clicking "Update" after launching the updater directly got us to version 2.3 of the iPod software. Then we were able to transfer newly purchased music to the iPod again."

  • Who kills your iPod after the installation of iPod updater?

    Hello all,
First, sorry for my poor English. I am not a professional nor a technician and I could be wrong, so please correct me. There are many problems reported mainly from the PC users that their iPod can't be recognized nor mounted after the installation of the latest iPod updater. Most of them claimed that the iPod updater kills their beloved iPods. Before we jump to a conclusion, we must understand what is iPod, and how does the iPod update work.
I believe that iPod equals a basic computer and need a OS in order to communicate with the PC. Installation the Updater will format the Hard disk of the iPod and then install the simple OS, so if we open the iPod updater file, it will show a window with two buttons i.e. Restore and Update, an Update is to copy the latest OS over the old version, but the Restore will format the hard disk before it install the OS over it. And importantly, during this process, the iPod needs sufficient of power to complete the upgrade, however, the problem comes just after the format, and the PC's USB (only 2 will work not 1.1) does not supply the stable power, even some cases that iPod does not get charge in the half way of installatin (a proper installation, you will see a running bar showing on the iPod screen just after the format), so you can imagine a hard disk got format but only got an uncompleted OS, of course, the iPod would not get recognized and mounted, and do not manage to communicate with the computer. At this stage the iPod will show a Sad iPod icon, a folder with exclamaiton points or a battery charging icon.
So, what would you do when it reach at this stage, a Reset would not work, and you would not able to do the Restore as the iPod is totally unrecognized by the computer.
Therefore, is there anyway to solve this problem, in my opinion and from my past experience, the answer is "yes", the simple way is to put your iPod in Disk Mode, when it plug to the computer, it will show as an external Hard Disk, you must fix it by doing a format (RESTORE would not work at this stage as it still can't recognized and mounted), in Mac we can use "Disk Utility" but the XP would not allow you to do the format in FAT32. After the formatting, replug the iPod with the computer, then it can be mounted and allow you to do the RESTORE.
In addition, I find an interesting point is, if your iPod formatted with a Mac, you will have better chance to be mounted with a PC, even your iPod does not complete the process of the installation of the iPod updater, and a PC formatted iPod will be likely to be fixed by a Mac as well.
How should we do before the update of the lastest software, for the XP user please do the following:-
    1. Go to the system restore and create a check point in order to revert back to the previous version of the iPod updater, or do the back up using the 3rd party software such as Ghost or Go Back.
    2. To have a test and make sure the PC's USB works properly. You can use the iPod or a PDA, and just make sure it got charged.
    3. Have your iPod a full charge before the installation of the iPod updater
So, who is the main killer for the iPod?

    Hello Shanker Ghimire,
Please try run the following command:" devenv /resetuserdata " to have a test, it will clear all your settings.
By the way, have you ever got any error when install that Visual Studio SDK?
In case there are some unknown errors, I'd like to ask you for some logs. Please use
    http://aka.ms/vscollect
to gather the installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.cab from %temp% folder. Please upload the file to

Yes, it will erase all your data with your iPod. Please do not format until you have the back up of your iPod. Very likely that your iPod was formatted by a Mac, which can't be read by your PC. Download a software called Xplay

  • HELP! Corrupted update file??

Power cycle all your network hardware (router and/or modem). Uninstall ESO. Re-install fully from disk. Then download the update.

So I bought Elder Scrolls Online collectors imperial edition hard copy (disk) and when trying to download the game it finishes the update and when I open the game it gives me this message "Cannot continue using the application. The data for the following application is corrupted. Delete the application from the ps4, and then insert disk again." Yesterday my mother in law brought her disk for us to try, same exact disk, different factory sealed box. It let me make an account, updated my trophy list and I payed for a few hours, but when trying to open the game today it said it needed the update file, as if it never installed to the system. I'm re-installing the update file to see if it kicks me out again. I need help!!!

When in DFU mode and connected to the computer iTunes does not say anything but iTunes will see the iPod and you can restore the iPod via iTunes. When in recovery mode and you connect, iTunes will say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • Proxy Autoconfiguration File, Authenticated Proxy and iTunes iPad/iPod updates

    Hi All,
Please can someone advise if there is anything that can be done to get iPad/ Ipod updates working using iTunes and an authenticating proxy server?
    Scenario is as follows:
    1. Proxy settings in IE is configured using a proxy autoconfiguration file (PAC file).
    2. The URLS *.apple.com is allowed to bypass authentication on the Proxy server.
    3. Itunes is used to update the devices from a PC running windows as OS.
When Itunes is opened, the connection to the Itunes store works 100%. The iOS downloads using iTunes is also successfull.
    Issue:
As soon as the downloaded iOS is being extracted and communicated to the devices, iTunes fails with an error code of 3004..
It seems like the PC is trying to make direct connections out instead of using the proxy settings in the PAC file.
Any advice / ideas to get this working?

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
If you have Safari 3rd party plugins, they may not be compatible with 10.6. Go here for trouble shooting.
If you use GlimmerBlocker by chance, that could be the culprit. Check out this thread.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594
Same with any Input Managers. Move any files in the /Library/InputManagers folder to the Trash
If you are running Safari in 64 bit mode, try running in 32-bit mode instead. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
Go to ~/Library/Cookies and move the Cookies.plist file to the Trash.
Try Open DNS - Free / Basic
If Safari still can't open web pages, go to the Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If Safari loads web pages then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.
