Need iTunes to recognize my restored iPod

I've got an iPod classic 80gb, iTunes 8.2, and Windows XP, and recently had a situation with iTunes freezing during syncing. To make a long story short, I decided to restore my iPod, when I couldn't think of anything else to do. Now that my iPod is wiped clean, I want to go about re-naming it, setting preferences, and loading tracks just like it was brand new. However, when I connect the restored iPod to iTunes, I don't get the iTunes setup assistant that I am expecting. Instead, I get a message that iTunes cannot read my iPod (and it mentions it by name) and suggests I restore. I actually did restore a second time when I first got this message, but it continues to pop up whenever I connect the iPod. How do I get the iTunes setup assistant to appear and treat my iPod likes it's new, so that I can starting loading it up again?

Hey there,
If you are repeatedly being asked to restore your iPod, the iPod's drive letter may need to be reassigned. See if this Apple support document can help you out. It provides step-by-step instructions on how to change the drive letter of your iPod. Hope this helps.

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
You need iTunes 10.7 or later on the computer.
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar.  Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar.

How do I get itunes on my mac pro to recognize my new ipod shuffle?

The latest iTunes may hide the sidebar (along left side of window).  To show the sidebar, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  With sidebar visible, when the shuffle is connected, it should appear in the sidebar under DEVICES.  Does it appear there?

  • Updated Ipod 4th Gen to IOS 6 but now Itunes tells me to restore Ipod and that data could be lost should i restore, it will not let me do anything until i restore

I have an Ipod 4th Generation just now updated to IOS 6 thru Itunes, says update complete but now it tells me to restore the Ipod and data would be lost. I can not do anything till I restore Ipod and I am worried about losing games, music and other apps. Do I restore Ipod and will I lose games and music?

Do you have a current backup of the content of your iPod? If not restoring will remove Apps and their data. The Apps can be replaced at no charge but the data will be lost.
What is the exact message that you are seeing?

  • Need computer to recognize two separate iPods using 2 libraries on single login

I have a family who has two separate iPod 5's, and Ive created two separate libraries for them on a Windows 7 machine under the same login.
I know how to open iTunes holding the "Shift" key and double clicking the icon, but what I want (and what Apple SHOULD have coded into iTunes IMO) is for the computer to recognize which iPod is associated with a specific library, and open the correct one in iTunes when the iPod is plugged in.
Currently, it is opening the last library that was opened.  Sounds a little silly, but holding shift, and selecting the library every time is not going to fly for this family.  They are not that computer savvy.  This seems like something that should automatically be done...if not I consider it a bug in iTunes.
They are using the latest iTunes/iPod firmware.
    Any help?
    Thanks,

I know what you need to do!
Buy yourself a turntable and some records - you know, that vinyl stuff (that I grew up with):
When playing an album (a twelve inch LP record), there was a ceremony to go through: slipping the record carefully out of its sleeve, handling it by its edge and centre label but not the playing surface, skillfully flipping it over and round to the read the centre label, making sure you played the correct side. Then getting up every twenty minutes to flip the record over to side two, or put on a different album altogether.
And if you were a singles fan... sitting next to the record player, preparing the next 7" (seven inch) that you were going to put on; removing from the turntable, the record that had just finished, and putting the next one on in its place as quickly as possible.
    A ritual in fact.
As great as vinyl was, you would then appreciate iTunes and all it has to offer.

  • How can I get iTunes to recognize my new iPod shuffle?

I have a new iPod shuffle, but when I plugged it into my MacBook Pro to charge it and put music on, nothing happens. It does not appear to be charging and does not show up on my iTunes. The USB port works fine, and iTunes recognizes my iPhone and iPad. Is there something I am missing here. or should I take it back to the store as defective?

    Hi all :-)
I have also a problem with a new ipod shuffle
I plug it and itunes alerts me that something went wrong.

  • Itunes wants me to restore ipods factory settings

bought ipod nano 4GB yesterday, I imported music straight from CDs to itunes and managed to get most of them on to ipod just fine. But some albums would not import to ipod. They are all AAC audio format. I was advised to reset ipod so I did and tried again to put itunes library onto ipod.
Now, everytime I try to connect ipod, an itunes warning pops up saying that 'itunes cannot read the contents on the ipod. use the ipod software updater application to restore the ipod to factory settings'
I don't want to mess up, any help and guidence would be very much appreciated!
    thanks

please, if anyone can help, i'm pretty useless with computers!

  • Problems with synching iTouch to iTunes windows. "Please restore ipod to factory settings" error message.

ITunes says "iTunes could not read the information on this ipod, please click restore to restore it to it's factory settings" every time that I connect my brand-new  iTouch to the computer.
The iTunes is for Windows, and is up-to date (version 10.7), and the iTouch is 4th generation.
Clicking "restore iTouch" does not help.
ITunes does not identify any available updates.
This same problem has occurred with different ipods synching to this same computer.
    What should I do?
    Thank you very much.

I was listening to my ipod through my friends
computer with itunes and then i got an error and all
the songs were taken off my ipod. when i got home i
tried to put them back but it said that i have to
restore my ipod to factory settings. So i downloaded
the ipod updater thing but when i run it i get an
error ( error number: 0x80040707 ) and then it says
access is denied and closes. Anyone know what to do
now? Ive reinstalled everything and tried anything
else i can think of. Anyone know how to fix this?
i also lost all of my songs and i am wondering if there is anything i can do? have you had any luck since you restored it to the factory settings? if you have heard anything or if anyone else knows how to get my songs back...i havent messed with or shutdown the computer since it happened, so i was wondering if my music could be in some remote file somewhere? thanks.

  • How do i get my itunes to recognize my replacement ipod?

i just got my new replacement ipod today, and i plugged it into my computer, and the screen is flashing "Do Not Disconnect." but my itunes is not showing any sign of recogniton with my new ipod. how do i get the program to realize that the ipod is connected, so that i can put all of my music onto it?

Whe it says "Do Not Disconnect" and doesn't show up in iTunes, it will probably show up under "My Computer" as a removable hard drive.
If it does, right click on it, and choose eject.
If it doesn't show up there, shut down the computer, once it has powered off the iPod should no longer say "Do Not Disconnect"

  • HT1329 I have a classic ipod that was formatted to imac. now I want to move my library to windows based computer.  itunes is requesting to restore ipod before it will read on windows because ipod was only used on imac.  Will I lose all my music?  How can

I have an ipod that originally was connected to imac.  Imac died and have itunes library on ipod.. How can I get the music off ipod and onto windows based laptop?

Yes.  A Windows PC cannot read or write to a Mac formatted iPod.  There are a handful of programs out there that will allow you to use the Mac formatted iPod with Windows so you can copy your content over to your new iTunes library.  One such utility is XPlay.

  • Restored iPod not recognized

I am having problems with syncing my iPod and it's freaking me out as I am leaving for holiday in a couple of days!
iTunes says that it detects an iPod in recovery mode and asks for a Restore which I did (many times). After restoring it still gives this same message as if it does not recognize the restored ipod. I tried resetting etc but this all did not work.
Maybe interesting to note is that I am also having difficulties with my external hard disk. Could this be linked?
    Thx!
