Need larger capacity Hard Drive for ThinkPad T43 Product: 2668Y4F

Please recommend company web sites that carry compatible 80GB Hard Drive or larger capacity Hard Drives for ThinkPad T43 Product/Model: 2668Y4F. Lenovo apparently does not carry hard drives for older ThinkPad notebooks.
Please advise. Thank you, Mark

PATA/IDE laptop drives have gone the way of dodo bird, for the most part.
This would be my pick:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-160GB-2-5-HM160HC-Hard-Drive-Brand-New-PATA-IDE-ATA-for-notebook-lap...
It will throw a "2010 error" on boot, but will work perfectly nevertheless. I've used these drives exclusively prior to converting my fleet T43p units to SATA.
I'm NOT affiliated with the seller in any way. Proceed at your own risk.
Good luck.

  • I need a larger capacity Hard drive for my Mac book pro, what do I do?

I am running out of space on my hard drive, what do I do?

Well in short, there are two ways to solve this:
    A) clean up your harddisk
    B) buy a bigger harddisk and replace the internal with it
    Details:
    A) clean up your harddisk:
Empty trash can, delete unused apps (with a tool like AppDelete), Get rid of old data (by using a tool like WhatSize to identify the biggest space suckers) and/or delete unused videos, photos and music...
    B) buy a bigger harddisk and replace the internal with it:
First put your new HD in an external enclosure and plug it into your MBP either over USB or Firewire. If not already formated for a Mac: use diskutility to format and partition it with GUID boot and a single or more partitions (volumes) just as you have it on your orginial HD just bigger in size... ;-)
Then you will need a tool like SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner to clone your existing harddisk onto the new one (all volumes if you had more than one).
Once done try to boot from your new external HD by selecting the startvolume in system settings or by holding the "alt" (option) key while powering up, then select the external HD to boot and try it out.
If all works, power of all and open your MBP and swap the hardisks. See http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Unibody-Mid-2010-Hard-Drive-Repl acement/3030/1 on how to do it (that link is actually for a 15" MBP from mid 2010).
Boot normally an check if all is well
Place the original HD in the external enclosure and use it as an externel HD extension or as a partial backup disk (as it is smaller compared to your new HD)
I hope I was clear enough on all steps, if not feel free to ask again.

  • Need a new hard drive for T43...

I need help finding a new hard drive for my T43.  It appears that my hard drive is starting to fail.  It just seems to not power up all the time during boot up or it just dies after it's in used for a little while.  The T43 seems to only be compatible with certain types of hard drives though and I can't find any place that still sells them.  Does anyone know of a place that still sells hard drive compatible with the T43?

    Welcome to the forum!
Any PATA laptop drive will work as long as it's 9.5mm high, but most of today's drives will throw a "2010 error" on boot, which is really not a big deal IMHO.
The biggest hard drive that won't throw this error is Fujitsu MHV2120AH (120GB/5400rpm) that has been discontinued a while ago. Expect to pay a hefty premium for a sealed one.

Is it a USB hard drive?  USB hard drives have the problem of not giving full speed if they are hooked up on the same bus as keyboards and mice.  Double check your profiler to make sure that is not a problem.  If it is Firewire, make sure there aren't other firewire devices in use at the same time.  I recommend not only keeping a Time Machine backup, but also a clone, and if you do use Time Machine, to make sure the Time Machine drive or partition is at least twice the size of the original drive.

Do I need an external hard drive for my pictures?

Generally, you should have an external hard drive to backup your system. If your internal hard drive is filling up, you certainly can move pictures to an external hard drive.

  • Max capacity hard drive for x61 7675a29 model

    hi guys,
i'm new to this product though the model i have is a refurbished one but seems it performs well enough for my needs. but however, i'm thinking of an upgrade particularly the hard drive. but before that i would like to ask for an opinion regarding hard derive capacities that this unit is capable of running. i'm planning for a 500GB seagate momentus XT.
    my specs for this unit:
    C2D 2ghz / L2 is 2mb
    ddr2 667mhz @ 4gb
    hd- 160gb
    video- x3100
    windows 7 ultimate 64bit

I have the seagate 500 gig in my X61s.
Currently the laptop hdd is limited by the physical dimension rather than capacity.
X61 have to use 9.5 mm thick 2.5 inch hdd...

  • Any need to partition hard drives for FCS or CS4 on my new Mac Pro?

This is my first post here but have learned a lot recently just by visiting various threads. I'm new to Mac and Final Cut Studio so I have a few questions about setting up the system and hard drives. I've read about partitions on hard drives on various sites but I wonder if that is outdated advice at this point. I will be learning FCS and CS4 by working on various SD DV and HDV/AVCHD projects so I want my system flexible but as high performance as I can muster. I will be working mostly in FCP and AfterEffects for a while and do intend to burn blu-ray discs eventually.
My system is a current Mac Pro quad core with 8gb RAM with current versions of final cut and adobe suites. I will do a clean install with snow leopard. I have a 640gb main drive and I've purchased three 1tb Western Digital black internal drives. I am wondering if I need to partition my main drive because I may want to also run a windows OS eventually for blu-ray playback. The other 3 drives are intended for project files, media/capture and back-up respectively. I don't have the budget for a RAID at the moment. So my questions for this thread are:
    1. Do I need to partition the main drive now or should I wait until I need to do so with boot camp/windows installation later?
    2. If I should partition main drive now, how much should I dedicate for the second partition on the OS drive for eventual windows 7/blu-ray playback?
    3. Should I partition any of the three additional drives?
    4. If I should partition any of those additional drives, how many partitions should I make and what sizes should the partitions be for each drive?
    5. Is my plan for my four drives a sound one for my purposes? (os, projects, media, backup)
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi, and welcome.
    1. Don't partition your system drive until you need to. If you choose to run Windows via Bootcamp, you'll have to, in which case, 150GB will be plenty if all you want to do is playback (may even be overkill). However, you can probably do just as well running Windows under Parallels or VMWare, whch would be my recommendation. Performance is very good, and the ease of moving from OSX to Win makes them very convenient. Parallels (which I know better) automatically resizes the amount of space it needs to meet your usage. You can also run your Parallels virtual machine from somewhere other than your system disk. I imagine VMWare provides similar features. Both are well thought of.
    2. Your disk use plan is OK, with one caveat - if what you're working on is critical to you, you should also have an external backup. With backup on an internal drive, there's a (very small, but definite) risk that, if the Mac Pro hit a disaster, your backup would be lost. I'd suggest an external Firewire 800 or eSATA enclosure and, either another drive, or just use one of the WDs there instead of internally.
    3. Don't partition the other disks either. Just make sure they're formatted MAC OS Journaled (do this via Disk Utility). Another benefit of Parallels/VMWare is they allow Windows to read/write Mac formatted disks.
    Hope that helps

  • Need a new hard drive for dv6-1230us

My issue is regarding the HP Pavilion Entertainment PC dv6-1230us. Recently, it was dropped and since then it has been giving me the following message whenever it boots up.
    Boot Device Not Found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk.
    Hard Drisk (3F0)
    F2 System Diagnostics
For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup"
I know it is important to run the hard disk test but when I run the system diagnostics for the Hard Disk Test, it says:
    "Hard Disk Test Failed
    Hard disk not exist"
I have also been on the suggested website and it didn't really help me, and even after "resetting my BIOS back to default" it recommends running the Hard Disk test, which just does not work because the "hard disk does not exist". There was a YouTube video that I came across as well that suggested pulling out the hard drive and diconnecting it and reconnecting it to fix the error in the case that the wires came loose but that did not work either.
SO, I don't know if there's anything more I can do, I'm assuming the hard drive is super dead.
It comes with a Seagate ATA hard drive. I was wondering if I could replace it with a SATA hard drive or does it have to be an ATA? (Does it even have the hardware capability to support a SATA drive?)
Also, is it even worth replacing the hard drive? Should I get a new laptop instead? This laptop is used mainly for just browsing online and checking emails.
Any help is appreciated, thank you.

The first thing you will need is "media" or some thing (typically a DVD or a thumb drive) that holds the files that make up the operating system. Seriously, if you have never done this before it is something a junior computer technician ought to help you with. There is a lot to do, primarily driver configuration and updates and then installation of programs on top of the operating system.
If you really want to try let me know when you have a Key Code and I can tell you where to get a copy of Windows 7 you can use.

So the hard drive is toasted, and therefore I need a new one. The hard drive is a 661-5554 HDD,160GB,OSX 10.5 (REP) - 13inch Macbook. Is 160GB the biggest I can get? Or is there a better hard drive I can get that will suit my MacBook? Also, I don't have he osx cd because the lap top was a handy me down. They told me at apple that I can go to the genius bar and have them install the software. But I am wondering, is osx 10.5 the best this MacBook can do? Or can they put something better on it? You can put in a bigger hard drive. The only limit is the physical size. It must not be taller than 9.5mm. You can upgrade it to 10.6. You can order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 from the Apple Store as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM and 5gb of free space on your hard drive. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY

  • Best Solid State Hard Drive for ThinkPad T430s

    Hi all,
I was thinking of replacing the 500gb in my 2 year old t430s with a solid state. Prices have come down.
I was thinking of buy this new one from Samsung, which has about the best reviews of any SSD.
    http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extreme-2-5-Inch-Warranty-SDSSDXPS-240G-G25/dp/B00KHRYRNM
Doesn't seem very hard to install SSDs and I'd do a fresh install of Windows. But I'm curious if I'd run into any bottlenecks on the t430s with such a high end SSD. I have 8 gigs of ram.
I was also considering this best seller:
    http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-7TE250BW/dp/B00E3W1726/ref=sr_1_1?s=p...
But I'd prefer to shell out 30 bucks more for the top of the line one with better lifespan etc.
    Any thoughts appreciated.
    Thanks.

SSDs provide the most improvement when reading lots of small files, where you need to move the heads and wait for the disk to spin to the right sector.  For most people, booting and shutdown are the tasks most helped.  If you don't need a WWAN card, I suggest you consider using a smaller mSATA card as the boot drive (I use a 256GB) and keeping your 500GB drive for data.  mSATA drives are available up to 1TB

Generally speaking any 3.5", 7200 RPM 1.5 Gbps SATA hard drive will do.   3 Gbps are too fast for it, and some may not down step without the proper jumper setting.

Any suggestions about the best 2 tb hard drive to work with my imac, compatible with time machine for around £100

There is no such thing as "best" and "inexpensive", you either want one or the other but you cannot get both. IMHO I'd recommend OWC's Mercury Elite Pro (www.macsales.com) however because  you are on the other side of the pond you may want to consider a Lacie product. High quality, not cheap but good stuff for the most part.
