Need MONITOR Recommendations

need to mix at home. computer speakers are not good enough, right?
looking for high quality but affordable Monitors. would appreciate suggestions. thanks!
Also, my mixes sound radically different on my computer, than in the car, than on a stereo? will new pro monitors give me accurate/true playback?
which play do i believe to be true?

This is an excellent article:
All About Home and Project Studio Monitors
For different playback you face quite a challenge:
1. In the car there is a lot of noise so people normally have the volume turned up louder. If you have soft sections of your mix they may be lost. Limiters used sparingly can bring up the volume of the soft sections to improve the sound in the car. (Too much and you lose the dynamic contrast of the mix and get a pulsing effect on the loud sections.)
2. Stereo speakers and amps are colored in the bass and treble so if you use them to monitor you will tend to set the bass and treble too low. Listen to your mixes on a variety of speakers and compare your mixes to other professional mixes.

I need a recommendation for a 24" professional photography monitor for my late 2013 MacBook Pro.  I am looking for a monitor that plays well with my 13" late 2013 Macbook pro.  I tryed the Dell U2413 and found after the fact that it did not work well with my Macbook pro.  Read up on the Asus PA 249Q, It also seems to have problems with my Macbook Pro.  Apple display is larger than i want.  Looking for recommendations for compatable IPS monitor for use with Aperture. buget is $300 to $800.
    Anybody happy with thiers?

Any monitor will work. Decide what specs work best for your needs and get that monitor.

  • Monitor Recommendations for Use with Captivate

Anyone have any monitor recommendations for use with Captivate? Size and resolution?

The formal adobe  recommendation is as posted 1024x768 is fine.
But, monitors are not that expensive, so for productivity and better work environment I recommend at least one wide screen 22" with resolution  1600X1200 or more  and that supports 1080 for video.
You need the  wide screen ( or  two monitors) so you can work with all the tools in one view.

  • Monitor recommendations for PS/CS5.5 print work

Hopefully this won't be retreading old ground too much, but I'm looking for monitor recommendations for using with CS5.5 for print work in Photoshop and InDesign mainly on a new Mac Mini. I've got a Spyder 3 for calibration already so that side of things is covered - the Apple Thunderbolt display is a bit of range financially, plus I'm not sure about the glossy screen myself, ideally I'd be looking to spend no more than £500 and size wise about 24" would be the ideal size due to the amount of deskspace available to me. TIA for any/all help/recommendations!

The degree of perfection is dependent on your final needs. A studio doing catalog work is going to need a monitor all the way up to top providers like Eizo. for my needs where I output to an Epson 3800 and bigger, I find the dell u2412 to be ideal, and at your price category, maybe 2 will fit the budget.
The 2412 does not cover the full Adobe RGB gamut, but it does cover sRGB IEC 61966-2-1:1999, the current preference for  online color. I use it because correcting the monitor to match the print for b&w is paramount, and the best monitors for this use LED backlight. The u2412 is admirable for this especially at it's price point.
I also use a 2nd monitor but it is a smaller 4:3 aspect ratio. It's use is strictly for tools and such.
The 2412 is a 16:10 aspect ratio and is far better, imo, for graphics work. Also (and maybe especially!) it is very close to the golden mean ratio giving it a wonderful presentation format. Check it out where you see 16:9 and 16:10 side by side.
When I am working closely with adjustment layers I have enough room on my screen to pull over the specific palette next to the image while tweaking, a big help without losing the ability to fill the screen later if you wish. Simply move the palette back to it's home on the other screen.
    Good Luck!

  • Need printer recommendation

My Epson r340 printer is having gaps on my black ink even after cleaning several times. Funny is when doing the test print all the colors even the black ink would show all the lines coming out. If this can't be fixed I need a recommendation for a replacement printer that has a CD tray that can print cd/DVD. I'm not sure if I want Epson again as this is my second printer from them that's having a problem.

I switch to Canon printers ages ago and haven't looked back. Epson lost my business with poor post-purchase support and ink shenanigans. The Canon IP 7220 has been good printer for me so far and replaced the Canon IP 3600 I used for nearly 5 years and thousands of sheets of paper.

Thanks, Sig.  I think I should've been a little clearer.  I've attempted to do the updates on my Mac, but I get a warning that it will erase everything except calenders, email, etc from the iPad.  I've syned the iPad with the Mac with no problem, but get scary messages when I try to do the latest update.

  • Display/Monitor Recommendations Needed

I'm getting ready to get a 13 inch MacBook Pro to replace my early 2009 iMac.
I intend to use it with an external display/monitor and am looking for suggestions that will not break the bank. The Apple dislays are a bit too pricey for me.
I'm looking for something around 24" or 27" and welcome any suggestions
I also have a question, I was at Costco and saw the prices of smaller HD TVs. Wouid it be too goofy an idea to use a TV as a display/monitor?
    Thanks!

  • External Monitor Recommendations

I'm looking for a good external monitor. Any recommendations for a good 17 inch LCD monitor for my iBook?

There is an adapter for hooking up to an external monitor included with your iBook, but it can only mirror the image on your iBook's screen; if you want to use dual monitors, or you want to use a higher resolution, you'll need Screen Spanning Doctor (VersionTracker.com). Although it's a freeware app, it's very good and shouldn't do any damage to your iBook (I use it, and I have no problems).
    Good luck!

  • GS60 Matrix display monitor recommendations.

  • Small TV Monitor Recommendations?

    Hello all,
I need to add a NTSC TV monitor to my edit setup to view  television playback.
It needs to be smallish to fit in a 15" tall space on the console. It will be fed with a GTX 670.
Any recommendations for a "best value" TV?
    Thanks in advance,
    John

B&H sells that one. Whether or not they actually recommend it might be in question. It is certainly a bit higher quality per the specs. And having more than one HDMI input makes sense.
The advantage of the one he bought is that it sits with its bezel on the shelf - no stand to make it taller. Just what I was looking for also. That way the top of my monitors and the bottom of the TV will be only an inch or so apart. I will get rid of the white shelf and put a black one up - or perhaps just cover the front of the white one with black tape.
I am glad to hear it worked out and very glad to hear that it is even less expensive at Walmart.

  • Network Security - Need a recommendation

    Hi there!
I'm currently running a wireless network in my apartment that is passworded on a regular bare bones LinkSys router. Currently I have both my PC desktop and my MBPro on this network. Both are running just fine.
What I am concerned about is people in the apartment complex using my network. I know I could bump up the security on my router but what I really want is a program that lets me A) see the IP's of people connecting to my network, if any, and B) single them out and block them. I have no idea whether such a program exists for Leopard. I'm actually fairly computer-savvy, but network security is a new arena for me.
I'm just wondering if anyone could recommend a program to use that is only moderately complex. Also, I'm willing to pay money, but free is always better. Or any other information would be great, e.g. if the MBP already has the propensity for this type of activity on its own. I know it does a great many things .
    Thanks for any help!

Your router should provide this via the web based administration interface.
    B) single them out and block them
In stead of monitoring the router for rogue connections, you could setup your Linksys router to perform MAC address filtering. MAC Address filtering involves setting up a whitelist of MAC addresses that can connect to the router and any MAC address that isn't in the list you can explicitly deny access.
What you would need to do is to add the MAC address for each device you have that you want to connect to the network.
To be honest though, if you're at all concerned about the security of your data, http traffic, if you do any online banking, shopping etc you should really enable the encryption features of your router. With the way you have things setup at the moment, even with MAC Address filtering enabled your wireless connection can still be snooped on which means your passwords, account numbers etc are potentially travelling in the clear over the airwaves.
Personally I would just configure the router to use the highest encryption level that all your computers can support and secure the Wireless network with a 10+ digit authentication key (utilising alphanumeric, punctuation and number characters). Doing this will ensure that your network is secure and minimise the risk of someone getting hold of any sensitive data.

  • Help me solve color and dark print issue with a new monitor recommendation!

I know, I hate "surveys" too. I'm thinking of attacking my color and dark printing issues w\LR and CS4, by investing in a new monitor. I currently have an 20' early edition Apple Cinema Display. The monitor is the last hardware (software) item in my current upgrade cycle. From those folks who are NOT having color or print problems, what displays are you using (or would recommend)? Ah, and price is an issue. Apologies in advance to those who think this is not appropriate use of the Forum.

Monitor calibration is the first port of call. Sometimes changing one item in a system is enough to show up a colour management issue. You suggest that the monitor is the last item in your upgrade cycle, what all have you changed? Computer, printer? There may also be a setting you have failed to set when you installed the new software, eg. have you remembered to set relative colorimetric with the black point compensation box ticked, disable colour management in your printer driver and put an appropriate colour profile for your monitor onto the new computer? You also need the correct profile for your printer/paper combination set up in Photoshop.
If you haven't calibrated your monitor, that on its own will give you poor prints, but all the other bits are needed also.

  • Heart Rate Monitor Recommendations for iPhone 4S and/or iPod 3G?

I've recently started using the Nike+ app and sensor for tracking my walking/treadmill activity.  Unfortunately, it does not work on an elliptical machine, but it's still a lot of fun and I'm doing something good for myself in the process.
The next step is to track my heart rate during exercises, which requires a heart rate monitor (strap) that communicates back to an iPhone app.  I think I've exhausted the possibilities of getting any heart rate monitor to communicate back to the Nike+ app, unless I'm willing to purchase a brand new Nano and cut my music catalog down by a tenth, so that isn't happening.  So I'm looking at a heart rate monitor that will communicate with a widely used, reliable and/or low cost iPhone 4S app, preferably one that can work at the same time as the Nike+ app that is stock, resident and free on the iPhone and which I use and will continue to use while walking with the Nike+ sensor that gets attached to my shoelaces.
The next step is the heart rate monitor itself (strap).  Lots and lots of choices out there but all roads lead toward Wahoo Fitness and their combination ANT+ plug into the base of the iPhone, and the heart rate monitor strap.  Looks like I can get them both on Amazon for about $60, which is a lot cheaper than I saw elsewhere.  Very expensive line of products.  And lots of "hopefullys" - hopefully, it won't drain my battery down on moderate to long walks; hopefully, I can run their app and the Nike+ app at the same time without interfering with one another (they do have a stride sensor but that's just more money that I've already spent on the Nike+ sensor which works fine); and hopefully, the stock strap will fit a 52" - 54" chest (I'm a big guy, they offer no data, they have no contact number, I'd have a drop them a support email and just wait for a response, company reputation for customer service is not good).
So am I looking at the best choice for my needs, or has anyone else recently purchased a similar system for measuring heart rate, stride and/or any other critical components of their exercise routine?  I am up for suggestions and not making any purchases so fast.
Last but not least, my current Nike+ app and sensor also work with my old iPod 3G running iOS5, I'm hoping that whatever I wind up with will work on that setup as well.
    Thank you.

Thank you very much for the response.  I actually purchased and have already returned a Polar heart rate monitor strap and a Nike+ Sportsband.  I could not even get them to work, and the strap was very small on me (I've got a 54" chest).  All roads lead towards Wahoo, but customer support is ABYSMAL.  You basically have to email them a question and wait for a response back, they have no chat or phone.  Ridiculous.  Anyway, my questions to them are pretty basic, maybe you can answer:
1.) The strap that you recommend works only with the 4S, which is fine, but I also have an iPod 3G that I'd like to use as well.  Some of their other straps are compatible with both.
2.) There's no measurement on the Polar strap that I just returned, so I have no way of comparing the fit on one or more of these Wahoo straps versus the Polar one.  I know that I just need a big one (XXL or better).  How is the fit on the one that you have?
3.) The whole reason why I initially went the Polar/Nike+ route was to go with the least complicated setup to get real time data on stride, distance, calories, etc. PLUS heart rate.  All on pretty much two screens (iPhone and Sportband), and with the idea that I could still multitask during a workout (i.e. check email, send a text, toggle between any open apps, etc.).  All of my research so far indicates that a Wahoo setup is going to have problems with this.  First, the rumor is that no app using a Wahoo heart monitor strap is going to allow you to exit that app and still take active readings (again, this would not have been a problem with the Sportband, but I couldn't get it to work).  Then even if that works, I don't know if the chosen Wahoo app will be able to measure heart rate while Nike+ and a shoe sensor are still measuring stride, distance, etc. (i.e. will they interfere with one another?  Will I be forced to purchase the Wahoo stride sensor too, and then it gets back to which apps work with the stride sensor, will they allow multitasking, etc.?)
It would be SO much easier for me if these Wahoo folks had a PHONE and could answer my questions.  To make purchases, try things out, return them, etc. that's crazy.  Waiting a day or two for presales questions in this day and age is unacceptable, but that's where I'm at.  I'd appreciate your continued input on this.
Btw, there is a third option beyond Polar/Nike+ and Wahoo, and that's Garmin, but the app reviews were horrible.  Wahoo was the cheapest overall, I just need to know that it's going to work and serve my needs before making the purchase.
    Thanks.
