Need more information on compatable software

I have had this mac mini for about a month now, but it just occured to me that I needed a word processing software. Everytime I needed to type something, it was done either at work, or on my Windows PC (I have only had a mac for a month in my life, which is this one). I have already bought Microsoft Office for my Windows PC and was wondering if it would work on my mac as well. I really would like to not purchase this software again since it is really expensive. Would Microsoft Office (Windows PC edition, not the mac one) work on a Macintosh? If it dosen't work directly, are there any side steps I can take to get it to work? If all fails, are there any programs on par with Office for Mac but at a modest price (no more than $100, because I spent nearly $300 on Office). I know this is a lot of questions, I would really appreciate it if someone would answer my question. Thank you.

You cannot use the Windows version of Microsoft Office on your Mac unless you install Windows on your Intel Mac.
The Intel Macs can run Windows XP if you download and install Apple's Boot Camp:

But, then you still have to purchase and install the retail version of Windows XP (about $200).
Now, if you want to do this for free, there is a great solution:

This program is completely free, and will open and create Microsoft Office compatible files. So, it makes exchanging your documents with others very easy.
Everything exchanges back and forth in either direction without trouble.
Don't let the "Beta" status scare you. NeoOffice is always being improved and tweaked. So, in one form or another, it's always in Alpha or Beta stage. I've been using it through all it's revisions from before the 1.x days.
It's essentially a Mac "native" version of OpenOffice.

OpenOffice is a free office suite that has been developed from the beginning to be 100% compatible with Microsoft Office. And, OpenOffice is available for most computing platforms.
But, the Mac version requires X11 to be installed, and is not very "Mac-like".
So, that's where NeoOffice comes in. They adapted OpenOffice to run as a regular Mac application is OS X. And, they are always updating it to add new features as OpenOffice is updated. So, it is constantly being improved.
I've never had a single problem with NeoOffice, and it exchanges documents with PC users with ease. Everything I open from them looks like it should, and everything I send them looks as it should on their machines with MS-Office. It even works with PowerPoint presentations.
So, give that a shot. It works great, and it's free. Plus, it will give you an entire Office package for free
Now for the bad news. You didn't need to buy Microsoft Office for the PC either. OpenOffice works great in Windows, and would have saved you a lot of money.
But, look into NeoOffice for your Mac. I think you'll like it.

    This means they try to fit what you are saying into a Software or Hardware issue and into a Apple Care Period or  not.
    If you are having problems convincing them it is an Account/Apple ID problem (even though it only effects the Mac's use of it in iMessages) ask to speak to a Level 2 person who should be more knowledgeable because fixing and Id issue is free and not subject to Apple Care.

    So we installed the SAP Gateway on Windows 2003 with AntiVir VSA.
    The memoryscan is running, but file their are bigger as 100 kb must be copy to the AntiVir VSA on Windows 2003 Server and this copycommand is not running.

    No thats not the Problem.
    The Customer use a SAP Portal on Sun OS without a SAP Gateway.
    Enterprise Portal Server --> VSCAN Destination  to --> over TCP /IP --> another Server (Windows 2003) with AntiVir VSA und vscan_rfc + SAP Gateway
    Now the Customer use the installation from SAP  "setupvscanrfc_78-10003831.exe"
    Content for this Installation is: SAP Gateway + vscan_rfc
    The Problem is that the VSI Interface shows a errormessage by scanning file bigger as 100kb:
    If Files bigger as 100 kb the Destination must copy the File to the Virus Scan Apdater, but thats not working.
    com.sap.security.core.server.vsi.api.exception.VSIServiceException: The virus scan server VSCAN_FE0BOS192 is not running on localhost!
    VSCAN_FE0BOS192 is the Destination on Portal-Site...
    Need this Installation also a SAP Gateway on the Portal Site or whats the Problem?

    In a typical JNI call, it should not be NULL.
    What specific problem are you having?i dont know what the application does.... jsp process abended with sigal 11 error at jni_NewStringJNI..... when chaecked the saveabend file...
    env shows 0x00000000.
    this is the call........name = (*env)->NewStringUTF(env, name_hold);

  • Need more information on enable-local-dispatch parameter.

    We are using OCCAS Web Logic server to deploy our application. The content header information has fields wlsscid & sipappsessionid which are coming as default. Want to understand more how & when these fields are getting populated and their significance.
    if we set the Enable-local-dispatch value as true will it effect the contact header information. We have the size limitation on the header information and hence trying for the options to remove wlsscid & sipappsessionid sip parameters from the contact header.

    enable-local-dispatch is a server optimization that helps avoid unnecessary network traffic when sending and forwarding messages. You enable the optimization by setting this element “true.” When enable-local-dispatch enabled, if a server instance needs to send or forward a message and the message destination is the engine tier’s cluster address or the local server address, then the message is routed internally to the local server instead of being sent via the network. Using this optimization can dramatically improve performance when chained applications process the same request as described in Composing SIP Applications in Developing SIP Applications.
    You may want to disable this optimization if you feel that routing internal messages could skew the load on servers in the engine tier, and you prefer to route all requests via a configured load balancer.
    By default enable-local-dispatch is set to “false.”

    Hi, I have some problems with the imovie, sometimes I save a project and when I return it to open has changed and it is listened to very badly or one is slow, also there are times that I apply an effect and duplicated scenes appear to me that before they were not. It wanted to know as I can solve these problems. Another problem which I have with the imovie is that the projects occupy much space and I cannot save more than five projects because if I do not remain without space, I can solve this?, finally it would thank for much that you could say to me all the effects, transitions and titles that are available for the imovie.     Welcome to the discussions.
    If you are having problems with iMovie, these are some recommendations that might help:
    First, you need space on the hard drive for iMovie to operate. You probably need at least 15GB, preferrably 20GB for adequate function.
    Next, make sure that you have updated versions of your software: iMovie, QuickTime, iPhoto.
    Try deleting the preference file for iMovie. Close iMovie. Go to yourusername->library->preferences->com.apple.imovie.plist. Drag this plist file to the trash. Open iMovie. iMovie makes a new preference file whenever one is trashed.
    See if this helps with the problem of the effects/ duplicated scenes.
    It is probably best to work on one or two projects at a time because of the space requirements.
    There are other things to do to save your projects and save space:
    If you have completely finished the movie and do not wish to do more editing, you can burn it to DVD. First, create a DVD project, and when you are ready to burn the DVD, save your project as a disk image. Then, you will be able to burn DVDs from that disk image. For single layer DVDs, the amount of space will be 4.7 GB or less. You can save the disk images for each of your movies and delete the original iMovie projects.
    You could also export the finished iMovies back to your camcorder to save them on DV tape, and then delete them from your computer.
    You can export an iMovie as a Quicktime movie and then import that into a new iMovie project and delete the old one. The QuickTime movie will be smaller than the original because it will have only the clips you have chosen to be in the movie.
    iMovie uses nondestructive editing, so it saves an entire clip in its files even if you put in only a short part of it. For instance, if you have a 15 minute clip and you use only 30 seconds of it in your movie and delete the rest, iMovie still saves the entire 15 minutes. It makes the size of your movie quite large. When you export it as a QuickTime movie, only the 30 seconds you actually want will be saved in the movie.
    Consider getting a large external hard drive for your movie projects...and be sure to format it for Macs.
