Need New Camera for Vacation (Please Read)

This summer I am going out West and going to Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. As you may know there is plenty of beautiful sceneries, and wildlife to enjoy in this part of the U.S. So I am wanting to take some of it back with me and show my family some of the great pictures I took. Last year I went and got to see many things that my old camera couldn't focus or zoom in good enough. So I have made the decision to go camera looking again. I'm looking for a camera that can zoom fairly well that doesn't get all fuzzy. I'm a pretty big guy and my hands are quite large, so I'm not looking for one of those little cameras that fit in the palm of your hand. I need something that where I push down the button and everything will remain steady, and I'm looking around in the price range of $200-$250 dollars. If anybody can help on giving some recommendations, I will be forever thankful.
Thanks

No, I actually don't know anybody that has a DSLR. I've decided that's not what I needed. I'm by far no professional photographer and for me to spend that much money for a used or older camera, when I only will use it once or twice a year would be ridiculous. I took some pretty good pictures last year when I went out west and even won a picture contest with the little Canon Powershot my aunt had given me when she bought her new camera. I was just thinking about possibly getting something new because 1) I have lost my old camera 2) I was wanting something with a little more zoom. I have been researching and CNET and alot of other reviews that I have read say that the Sony Cybershot DSC-H20B is really good camera for my price range. Anybody got any comments on the Sony Cybershot DSC-H20B?

  • Need New Digital for Vacation

My family and I are heading to the beach and Disney soon, and I would like to purchase a new digital to take.  I already own a DSLR, which I will use for beach pictures.  My problem with my current smaller digital is that it's bulky and uses AA batteries, which I am constantly changing.  There are so many choices, and even reviews haven't helped much.  Here are my requirements:
    1)  Under $200 (closer to $100 would be nice)
    2)  Lightweight/compact
    3)  HD Video
    4)  Able to purchase extra batteries that won't cost me $50 each...I need to be able to use for an entire day without recharging.
5.) Can use my SDHD card
What is the BEST performing camera that meets my needs?

I'd suggest looking through Canon's lineup to see which PowerShot series meets your needs in your price range.  All use SDHC, I think all have HD video now (although the audio is going to be bad on any point-and-shoot), all are fairly lightweight/compact (You'll have to make a tradeoff here - the A-series are larger but often have more features for the dollar, the SD-series have fewer features but are smaller.)
For 4) you probably won't have success with many cameras unless you are willing to purchase third-party batteries.  At that point nearly any camera has cheaper batteries available.

  • New camera for old iPhoto

We've been intending to buy a new camera for a bit, nothing fancy, just something a bit better than our now antique Canon (PowerShot A10) (yes, really!) and that can shoot some brief video. Just as I was about to buy, I wondered whether all the new cameras were in fact compatible with iPhoto 6. Of course, all of the links to the "compatible cameras" pages within the iPhoto6 help app are broken (indeed, why would Apple keep updating them at this point?).
Then I am just learning about RAW format, because of course with our ancient camera I have no idea what it is. I suppose we should choose a camera from this list to get full capabilities from it, which does rule out a number we had looked at.
I just discovered that they offer the new iPhoto as a standalone in the App store, and maybe it's worth the measly $15 for it.

Thanks -- as I looked into RAW, I realized it was far beyond our needs (and the cameras that do take RAW format pictures far beyond our price range).
So any camera, even a new model, would be fine, huh? I think I was fooled by googling up old web pages when this was not yet the case; and it doesn't help that the iPhoto 6 help app has a (non-working) link to a (no longer applicable) list of "compatible cameras."
    Thanks again.

  • What happened to Reunion?  need better options for genealogists, please.

We need better options for genealogists, please.  What happened to Reunion???

apologies for obtuse question.   Reunion is apparently no longer available from App Store.  Family Tree Maker is now available for MAC but  is not getting good reviews.  I have used both.  FYM on PC and then switched to Reunion, because  FTM was not available in 2008 when I got my Mac.
Now I note that Ancestry is in cahoots with FTM so am tempted to switch again  but put off by the poor feedback.
I thought that Reunion was also available for Iphone but not FTM??

  • Need help. New camera for student

I need a need camera for my 15 year old girl who is taking photography.  she needs a camera with a reflex system  or a digital camera with a "M" (whatever that is).  can anyone advice which would be the best camera and best price.
I do not wish to buy something fancy, I need something affordable and to meet  requirements for class.
    thanks for the help

It actaully depends on the budget. There are some point and shoot camera with manual controls like Canon G12, Nikon P500. If you want one with interchangable lens than can go with DSLR cameras. Few days back Canon has announced 2 new DSLRs Canon T3i and T3 you can have a look at the Canon T3i Preview. Also it is quite possible that Canon drops the prices for Canon T2i or Canon T1i since the new one has come, so if you can wait for few more weeks than might see some drop in prices.

  • Needing new Camera; Help!

Time for a new camera and after reviewing over and over, I just get more confused on which one I should pick. I am just a Mom of a Toddler, no pro here. I don't understand all the technical terms these reviews are using such as ISO and stuff. I just know the qualities that I want are:
    1) Fast picture taking (I have a toddler, hate getting the shot after the activity is done.)
    2) Battery save (Sometimes I forget to shut the thing off)
    3) Good low light picture taking ( I do take alot of evening pictures outside and in, some with flash, some without)
    4) I like the lithium batteries (in the past, have had better luck with those)
    5) Don't want to spend and arm and a leg
    6) Has to have a date stamp option
    7) Compact (doesn't have to be the size of a credit card or anything like that, though; just needs to be able to fit in the diaper bag/purse)
    8) Can range in picture taking from up close to the far (need the range)
    9) I like image stabilization and face detection, but not necesarry
    10) Really need it to operate well on auto ( I have a toddler)
    11) SD Card ( don't want to switch that up)
    12) Anything else that would be helpful for me, the ametuer, to take nice quality pictures
If anyone can please help me, I would so much appreciate it. You would be saving me some headaches!! Thanks.

Need a budget number otherwise no one is going to know what to recommend.

  • Need new HDD for Satellite L300-1BD

    Hey,
the HDD in my Toshiba Satellite laptop isn't working anymore.
So I'm going to buy a new one today but which one do i need? Like how many inch? And is it a SATA connection or something?
Could someone please tell me to what i have to look when I buy a new HDD for this laptop

    Hello Vivendi
One thing is strange to me: I presume that your L300 notebook is pretty new one and I don't understand why you want to buy new HDD. Is warranty still valid?
Please check it. If the warranty is still valid contact nearest authorized service provider and I am sure you will get replacement for free.
If you want to buy it I also presume you want to replace it alone. So, remove the old HDD and on the white label you will find all necessary information about HDD.
Anyway, you need 2,5 SATA HDD.

  • New board for Software Updates - read this first!

    Dear Nokia Support Discussions members,
we are happy to introduce this new section for discussing Nokia phone software updates with your PC or over-the-air.
Please use this board to discuss
    - Nokia Software Updater PC application or over-the-air updates
    - latest software versions for each product
    - any changes you notice over previous software versions
    - making a back-up of your phone data
    - problems you may encounter with the update
    etc.
First and foremost, Nokia Support Discussions is a meeting place for Nokia product owners. Here you can discuss Nokia products, ask for assistance and help other people by providing solutions. Nokia Moderators are here mainly to give assistance in using the boards and to keep the discussions on track.
However, these boards are also a feedback channel to Nokia and people from many different Nokia departments actively follow these discussions. Constructive feedback and criticism is valued and always welcome.
We at Nokia Support Discussions do not have any information about when new products are added to the update service - nor do Nokia contact centers. So you just need to keep checking the service webpage or the boards here. I am sure new products are announced here by our alert members within minutes after they have been added.
I wish to remind the community that posting any confidential information about Nokia product software versions will be deleted and may result in a permanent ban without warning.
Below is the introductory letter that we received from the Nokia Software Update Team - please read it for important information about new products and their schedule.
    See you on the boards,
vandelay & Nokia Support Discussions Team
The Nokia Software Updater is a Windows application that enables you to update Nokia mobile device software (firmware) over the Internet using your PC. The application can be downloaded from the Nokia UK Product Support Internet pages at
    www.nokia.co.uk/softwareupdate
The Nokia Software Updater offers the same updates you would receive at a Nokia Service Centre. The added advantage is the convenience, as you can now easily perform the update yourself from any location with an Internet connection, at a time suitable for you. Keep your phone software up-to-date, or fix a potential operation problem you may have by regularly updating your phone firmware.
In the future, every new S60 product will be compatible with the Nokia Software Updater, but at the moment the application is only available for selected Nokia devices including Nokia 6630, Nokia 6680, Nokia 6681, Nokia 6682, Nokia N70 and Nokia N72. During the autumn, the application will be available in different languages on different web pages and many other products will also be available for software updates.
The Nokia Software Updater has been made to be as customer-friendly as possible. All you need is a PC and the standard sales-pack data cable - no dongles, no adaptors, no fuss. A typical update takes around 30 minutes. Plus, you don’t need to wait for your device to be returned from Nokia Service Centre.

  • Need new disk for 2011 Mac Mini i5 with Radeon 6630M

I need a new disk for 2011 Mac Mini i5 with Radeon 6630M
    Will this fit?
Western Digital 2.5 inch Scorpio Black 750GB 7200rpm SATA 16MB Internal Hard Drive WD7500BPKT
Will I need special screwdrivers or tools?

Wow, I worked on my MacMini after watching the video.
    But BEWARE!
That OWC video misses a crucial step! (I emailed them)
My MacMini had a bit of "invisible" black tape holding the disk connector to the disk, very hard to see. When I pulled off the connector, it came apart !
That bit of tape must be something Apple added, or some manufacturers added, but it really messed me up. I had to send my MacMini off to be repaired, at a cost about $200 including parts and labour.

  • New camera for use with IM09

Looking at upgrading my camcorder and trying to figure out which would be best with IM09...
This is what I have been looking at...
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/576009-REG/Canon3085B001_VIXIA_HG20_AVCHDHard.html#features
I tend to lean towards the Canons, but how does this JVC compare?
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/572458-REG/JVCGZ_HD30US_GZ_HD30_Everio_HighDefinition.html#features
Then the other questions I have are:
Should I got HD based or stay MiniDV?
The Canon says it records progressive footage at 60i, does that mean it is not true progressive?
Will an MiniDV HD cam improve my standard MiniDV captures, will it up scale them?
    Thanks for the help...

I believe the real answer is not HDV vs ACHDV but progressive vs interlaced format. Imovie works better with progressive vs interlaced. However, shooting in 1080 60p needs a mac pro to really edit properly. Plus you need to trick imovie to consume it. However, I would still look into shooting progressive. Do a search on progressive and there are a few threads on it.
Yes, I have discovered that by working with IM09 with my standard DV cam. But it appears to me that both of the new formats will record in 30p and 24p (at least on the canon line). So will I not be importing progressive with either? Your right that is my top priority (and the major reason for getting a new cam) is to be able to record and import in progressive format...
The more I read, the more I am tending to lean toward HDV. I just want to make sure the qualities are the same...

  • Still at 3.5.1 but need new camera...

HS teacher here, and I am sticking with FCE 3.5.1 because many of my lessons were based around LiveType (install of FCE4 deletes most livefonts) and Soundtrack. I'm a bit intimidated by all the new HD camera formats and don't want to be stuck with something that won't work. What is the safest thing to do? Make sure it's tape-based? Can I consider hard-disk or flash memory? Are the Canons (HV20, 30, 40) the only way to go?

I'm a teacher too, teaching middle school using FCE. I know it pretty well, but I ask for help when I need it. =) I'm having problems with the trash NOT warning before it empties and I've already been into Finder, and checked "show warning before emptying trash." It ignores that! That warning is very valuable to me, especially with kids.
I'm posting here since I noticed another teacher, so I thought I'd keep it rolling. =)
Also, I set the ~/.trash in Finder to lock out folders so kids can't trash other folders, most kids are good, but just in case...
This does NOT work. It says "you have insufficient privileges...." I know, I know, I read threads on that too, what a mess, but that's a side note.
Anyway, I want to be able to prevent the trash from emptying unless you enter a password. So even if kids trash something, they can't empty it. I've done it before, but I forgot what I did. And I want to get the trash back to WARNING me BEFORE it empties.
    Thank you for any help.

  • Need new notebook for law school.

    Hey guy's,
I just started my first year of law school. I want to get my first Mac. I'm a bit conflicted about whether I should get a Macbook Air or a Pro.
Portability is essential to me, my iPad just isn't cutting it anymore. A CD-Drive isn't essential to me, I could buy the superdrive if I need it, and the smaller HDD capacity isn't an issue either cause i'm planning on buying an external HDD also. All of these factors point me towards a Macbook Air but what worries me about the Air is that once I buy it I can't upgrade it later on, and this computer has to last me for at the very least the next 4 to 5 years.
Main reason I want a Mac is because, almost everyone in my class has one, they're good looking devices, like I said I love my iPad and my iPhone. Lol! All jokes aside, I mainly want a Mac because my neighbor has had his Macbook Pro for the last 5 years and the only problem he's had with it is he had to buy a new battery for it. Clearly Mac's are built to last, but that's a Pro I don't know how long Air's last. Also even though I said earlier on that the CD-Drive isn't that important to me, the fact that Pro's come with one is nice.
I asked my friends with Mac's which one I should get and it was a waste of time, my friends with Pro's told me to buy a Pro and my friends with Air's told me to get an Air.
I already have 2 PC's at home, I want to be able to use Microsoft Office ( I don't like Pages), I'm waiting till the 15th, hopefully Apple will announce new MB Pro's and that will help me decide. I want a notebook where I can download and save cases from Westlaw ( The Westlaw iPad app doesn't allow it). Also I hope to purchase the Thunderbolt display next year.
I'm sorry this is a little long it's just that I felt like I needed to give you the most information possible so that you guy's and gal's could give your best possible answer. Lastly I'm sorry if there are any grammatical errors or if this all seems a little incoherent, English isn't my first language.
Please answer I don't know what to do!
    Cheers!

I own both a Pro and Air..., I wouldnt part with my macbook Air (owned 3 of them) for anything.   Used to repair laptops, and owned well over 100 diff. varities. As a person who generally doesnt like anything,....I love the macbook Air.

    Macbook Air:
Only one moving part, ultrafast boot time SSD, the full power of laptop with the weight of an Ipad (close).
Air is the only Mac that has Haswell, 802ac wifi, and incredible 12hr. batt life in 13" I5.
Recommend buying the Air with 8gig Ram.
Pack around a regular laptop around about 20 days, then an Air, .....after that the standard laptops stays at home.
Only one moving part, the fan. No moving HD heads to crash or moving platters.  Runs a LOT cooler than anything else out there (which = durability).  Heater is a killer on a scale of 10X over that of accidents.
Also the AIR has far fewer parts to fail inside than a standard laptop.  Really only a few replacement parts
The Air in general is faster due to the SSD, also if you have a 802ac Router (i.e. Airport Extreme) then the Air over wifi is a LOT faster than ANYTHING out there
If youre going to be dragging a notebook around campus all the time, the Air makes things a lot more lovely.
The FINAL consideration of course is your application USE, and needs regarding same (see specs and video above)
