Need new graphics card to render ProRes... HELP! ON DEADLINE!

Hello:
Of course this only happens when your deadline. Why is that?
Anyway. I'm working on my first project using Pro Res. I shot in HDV and fed into FCP as ProRes as advised by all sages and wise wizards.
So far so good.
I need to do some basic color correction to finish the project and when I tried to use the gamma filter my mac burst into tears and FCP sent me the rude message exclaiming, and I quote: "The effect "Gamma" cannot be rendered in a sequence of this size with the current graphic card."
So I presume I must rush out at first light and hand over vast amounts of cash for a new card. Can someone suggest which card I should buy that would get the job done without breaking the bank and doesn't require an advanced degree in engineering to install?
I am using a dual processor G5 (non Intel) and OS 10.4.11. I know, ancient.
Other useful info you might need to know is that the source files are on an external Firewire drive (some breed of LaCie) and connected to the mothership with a Firewire 800 cord.
Many thanks

Yes, I have rendered the sequence. I have always thought that was standard procedure. I mean, why wouldn't you render it? Anyway, the gamma corrected section looks alright. Not pristine. It might just be my imagination. I just want to be sure I'm getting the best quality image... so if a better graphics card will help I'll shell out. Trouble is most of the cards that seem the best for HD are not compatible with older G5s (the non-Intel versions).

How you know your notebook has separate graphic card?
Have you had success to remove it from the mainborad?
Sorry about these questions but Im a little bit confused. As far as I know graphic card is part of mainborad and cannot be replaced separately.

  • Portege A100 - Need new graphic card driver in order to play games

I own a Portege A100 and I need to update the graphics controller in order to play some games.
My problem is i went to the download centre and the latest driver is currently installed in my notebook.
I have had this game running before but had my notebook reprogrammed and can't recall how to make it work.
    Please help!

Hmmmm.....to be honest Portege is not notebook for gaming. Maybe for playing chess but for some graphic intensive games is definitely wrong notebook.
Anyway, the question is what you want to do.
Do you want to play some games or just to get old (already working) game to run again? Or maybe both options?

  • Satellite L850-1VM - need newer graphic card driver

    Hi,
    I own a Satelitte L850-1VM with Windows 8 installed.
It's working good except that GPU-Z reports a bug in OpenCL. To correct this it propose me to update the ATI driver. The available driver for this PC on Toshiba website is the 8.982.10.6000. Latest ATI's driver is 13.4!! The driver available on ATI website refuse to install asking me to get the driver from Toshiba...
Do you know a release date for new version of the driver ? There is a long way from 8.982 and 13.4 !!
Or do you know a way to install the standard driver on Toshiba portable ?
By the way, why my computer is not visible on Toshiba website ?.... It seems that my computer does not exist for Toshiba...
    Regards
    Stephane

    > do you know a way to install the standard driver on Toshiba portable ?
The Toshiba drivers are modified for mobile usage. Means such driver supports an GPU overheating protection.
The original ATI drivers dont support such feature and this is the reason why such driver cannot be installed using the standard installation procedure.
But if you want to use such driver at your own risk, you can install it via device manager.
There you get an Advanced installation option which allow you to choose the driver folder containing the downloaded driver files. In this way you could install such 3rd party driver.

  • Need help on new graphic card purchase

    Dear Apple users,
I am looking for a graphic card to replace an older one. I have searched high and low but have no idea which cards are compatible.
My existing graphic card which came with my G4 MDD is the Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti (256mb). I am looking for something with an equivalent specification or higher, but since my monitor is still the old 15" widescreen (got that when I purchased the G4 Cube back in 2000), only graphic cards with HDMI support are compatible. Which basically means if I need to replace my monitor as well, I'd still have to get a graphic card.
I was told that newer graphic cards only have DVI ports instead.
Do I just get any graphic card with DVI port, or must it be something more specific for the Macintosh? What about AGP or PCI Express? I am not familiar at all with these =(
For example, if I get the GeForce 7600 GT, will it work? Or do I have to be more specific and get the GeForce 7600 GT for Macintosh?
Thank you for your recommendations and advice beforehand. If there is any information I haven't provided that may be useful, please do not hesitate to post and I will get back as soon as possible.
    Regards.

    Hi,
First things first. No apple display has ever shipped with HDMI support. Are you sure you are not referring to ADC?
    It looks like this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:AppleDisplayConnector.jpg
Does your display look like this?
    http://www.everymac.com/images/monitorpictures/apple_studiodisplay15.jpg
If so it definitely is ADC.
Secondly, unfortunately all the latest video cards do not support ADC, you will have to buy an adapter which costs $99 from the Apple online store:
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=M86 61LL/B
Your Power Mac only features an AGP slot (not PCI-E found on the latest PCs and Mac Pro). The video card you buy must be a Mac compatible AGP card.
A good card compatible with your Mac would be the 9800 Pro mac edition:
    http://www.amazon.com/ATI-Radeon-9800-Video-100-435058/dp/B000BJBCGG
The 9600 Pro is also a good card, not as good as the 9800 Pro of course.
    http://www.amazon.com/ATI-Radeon-9600-PRO-Mac/dp/B000JFKZPQ
Both cards would be a significant upgrade over your current one.
    Good Luck!

  • Urgent Help Needed: ATI Graphics Card install

Hello All.... I am in need of some urgent help..
I am trying to install a new graphics card - the ATI Radeon 9600 SE. I currently have a Voodoo3 card. I followed all of the instructions step by step, but when I plug the monitor to the Radeon card and boot up, I do not get any display. I have tried everything I can think of, and yet - I am sure the card is secured in place and the monitor is plug into the card.
Can anyone help me on this one.. ATI's support is, well - lacking..
Here is some info on my pc:
    MCI motherboard
    AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ 1.7 GHz
    768 MB
    AMIINT - 10 Version 1.00, 07/10/02
Could the problem be with switching from a regular PCI card to an AGP card???

  • Need recommendations: New graphics card for HPE-400y

Hi!  I'm in need of a new graphics card, but I don't know which one is best for my computer.  My computer is a Hewlett Packard  HPE-400y.   Click here for specs!
My computers has all the original parts except the PSU and HDD. I recently changed the PSU to a Corsair CX430.  The current hard drive is a WD Caviar Black 2TB.
I use my computer for Guild Wars 2, Maya (models and animation), Zbrush, Corel Painter, and Photoshop.
My current graphics card (Radeon HD 5450) has issues playing Guild Wars 2. The FPS is 30 or lower if I try to play the game with medium or high settings. The FPS also drops when I'm playing the group PVP event known as World Vs World. I often have to have the graphics on the lowest setting in order to get 30 -45 FPS.
You can find the Guild Wars 2 requirements here: GW2 official wiki -- requirements info

    Hi,
You should be able to get a double wide card in your PC.  Length may be a problem due to all of the cables. If the space below the optical drive is open then you might try to stuffing the extra cable lengths into that location.
BTW-- very nice photos.  Not many will go through the effort to do so.
Consider trying one of the below graphics.
MSI NVIDIA GTX N750 TI and the MSI GTX N750 TF  Both of these graphics cards are significantly faster then your existing 5450.
Know what the return policy is before your buy.
You have an excellent Corsair power supply. I would prefer that you had a 500 watt PSU so that the higher performing graphics cards could be tried.  This NVIDIA GTX 660 specifies at 450 watt minimum but the 12v amperage from your Corsair CX430 is more than sufficient.  It might be worth giving it a go.  It's about 50% faster than the above two graphics cards.  I typically don't recommend that graphics cards be used with PSUs below the graphics card manufacturer's minimum requirements but the Corsair CX430 should work.

  • Help with installing new graphics card

Hi I have a 3 year old hpe575a (hp pavillion)
    Intel i7 2600, 8gb ram
Orginally had a ati hd radeon  2gb (not sure what model)
    in it
after 2 years the radeon finally melted ( always had overheating problems in the australian summer )
so I bought a nvidia gtx630m which had the same connections and power requirements and connections as the radeon
I csnt seem to get it working, despite the card powering up, and loading the splash screen it doesnt go any further, I can get to the network boot screen or the hp splash screen but no further, and I cant find any bios updates for my mptherboard (pegatron) so do I need a new motherboard? The computer works 100% fine without the new graphics card
Should I get a new motherboard. Or graphics card? which would be cheaper? or is there someway to get the current system to work with the new graphics card? thanks -zac

    Hi,
The existing card is an "AMD Radeon HD6570 (2 GB)". I don't know how you can fit a Nvidia GTX630M to your machine because this card is for laptop:

Probably you are talking about the following card:
        http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-630/specifications
The card should be able to use 300W PSU on your machine (no need new PSU). My suggestion:
    (a) Update BIOS to the latest one, please check, should be "Version7.15 Rev. A" the motherboard is Cleveland

  • Need guidance on new graphics card connectivity.

    Hey,
I want to upgrade my current graphics card "ATI Radeon 4800 Series" to a newer more capable graphics card mainly for gaming. (Black Ops is coming out tomorrow and I feel it's time for an update)
My current PC specification is as follows:
    Harddrive: 500GB
    RAM: 4GB
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.80GHz
    Motherboard: GF 7050V-M7
    PSU: 650W
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 4800 Series
Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 3
I need your help to find me a new graphics card that it is compatible with my motherboard/other components at around £130!
    Thanks for your time!
    Hatton

You need to re-read what I said... I said if he wanted to build a new computer based on a new motherboard, I did NOT say this would be a pop-in replacement for his existing motherboard
There are several ASUS models, I picked the P6T SE since it had the right balance of features and price
I have 6x2Gig ram sticks for 12Gig... if I was building today, now that prices are lower, I would start with 3x4Gig to leave room for adding 12Gig later
I use the onboard sound and it works fine for my needs
As well as an nVidia GTX285 (today, I would buy a GTX470) I have a Pinnacle Dv500 digitizing card, which I use via dual-boot with WinXP

  • Help purchasing / installing a new graphics card

I am looking to buy a new graphics card as mine isnt good. I was told by a friend to get a nvidia gtx 660 (im not good with computer parts and installing stuff) I wanted to be sure that it would be compatable with my computer. My graphics card is a AMD Radeon HD 7560 HD , And my procceser is AMD A8-5500 APU with Radeon HD Graphics.

You need to check a few things...
      1. Do you have an open PCI-e x16 slot on your motherboard?
      2. Does your PC have a Power Supply with 24+ amps on the 12V rail and has a free 6-pin Auxiliary power connector?
If 1. is not true, you are stuck with the integrated graphics.
If 2. is not true and 1 is true, you will need to replace your power supply as well.
Let's see if we can simplify this...
What is the Make/Model of your PC (if it's a pre-built Dell, HP, etc.) or, if it's custom, provide a component list.
Check the power supply for a model number. If you can find it, provide it.

  • Can I put a new graphics card and power supply in my computer.

Hey all, I have the P7-1459 comp and it is good, but i was hoping to maybe give it a gaming boost. But i havent been able to find out if it could handle what i want to do. The new Graphics card would require a 450W power supply and i dont know if this comp could handle it. Anyone know one way or another? Need some help.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Joshua, you are very welcome!
I am sorry that I misunderstood your question.  I thought that you wanted to know if the computer would handle the card.
Yes, you can upgrade the power supply unit (PSU).  I suggest measuring the existing PSU and comparing those measurements to the one that you choose.  I like OCZ and Corsair.  They will provide enthusiast quality with a reasonable price.  A good video card requires clean, stable power.  I recommend at least 500W; 550W to 600W would be even better.  This would allow for some future upgrades.  The computer only uses the amount of power needed to run the components.
    I hope this helps.
