Need node-level access in java.util.LinkedList... possible?

Hi, I require access to the nodes not the elements, in a java.util.LinkedList. Is this possible, or will I have to write my own implementation.

I do need full control over the nodes because I am linking them together to form an n-dimensional circularly-linked lattice. After thinking about it, it became clear it would be much easier to write my own nodes and special type of iterator along with an Axis enum type than it would be to muck around trying to weave together prefab lists even if I did have access to the nodes. Anyways, the feat has been accomplished :) Thanks for your reply.

I had the same problem trying to open a Pix 506e through Internet Explorer.
After downloading and installing and uninstalling again differt versions; the working solution for me was version JRE 1.4.2_07
Be sure to download the 07, other versions of the 1.4.2 were not working!

This looks like it might be a bug in 6.1SP5,
          weblogic/kernel/Kernel.java at line 85.
          It's trying to do the right thing to ignore an exception if in
          an applet but it's ignoring the wrong exception
          (SecurityException, when it looks like the stack
          trace is throwing a java.security.AccessControlException).
          If you need a fix, this would need to go through support
          and be filed as a problem with WLS Core.

I suggest going through customer support, I don't know what
          the resolution was. You might also try the security newsgroup,
          as no JMS code has been called by the application yet at
          the point the exception is thrown.

It's one thing not to have to modify the security policy on the server,
but on a client and applets have even bigger restrictions this might
very well be the only way since the default applet restrictions would
not allow a lot of permissions granted by default for normal Java
applications.

This is a WLS bug. You shouldn't have to modify security policy.

I dont know, but It may be that an Applet can only access the local machine. ie. If you run the applet on computer A and you want to edit the config on computer B, I do not believe you can. The applet can only talk to Computer A. You would have to:
1) Run an application on computer A and the applet would tell the application what to change.
2)Maybe sign the applet in a JAR File

Please make changes in the java.security files present in the jdk1.3/lib/jre/security/java.security.There you make the changes in the property which gives you the error.See if this helps..

basically i'm trying to use the method removeRange(int,int) of class Vector from the java API.
I keep getting the following compiler message:

I don't know what is happening. JMS hasn't been called yet -
          the applet is still setting up its initial context. You might want
          to try posting to the jndi (and perhaps rmi) newsgroup.

I will admit to not having Java1.5 installed on my machine. Haven't yet had the chance to play with generics, but the above DOES work in 1.4, and SHOULD work in 1.5
Maybe I'm naive but, System.getProperties() returns a Properties object right?
According to the API: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/util/Properties.html: Each key and its corresponding value in the property list is a string.
All the keys SHOULD be strings.
AFAIK string are comparable, and shouldn't throw class cast exceptions
Thus the keys returned from getProperties SHOULD be comparable, and compatible for comparision.
Ok, I can see your point in that some hackers abuse the Properties class by putting non string keys/values into the Properties Map. In that case the code would become more like your above. I'd probably still go with a TreeMap though, rather than a sorted list of keys. Most time you want the keys, you want the values as well. So if the intention is to print out a sorted list of system properties, and their values, keeping it in a map is best.

we got on several computers the error message
access denied (java.util.PropertyPermission" "user.timezone" "write")
when we try to open an internal website. Until today everything worked fine.
An update on Java for windows 7 64, Version 7 Update 45 didnt solve the problem.
I tried to set the Java security permissions in the control panel to middle but it also didnt work after this change.
We also got this problem on another computer when we try to open an external site which also use Java.
Did anyone have an idea how to fix this problem?

1. Java source code is not platform dependent. The original poster wanted to look at linked list code, how could that be platform dependent?
2. It is the implementation of the SDK APIs, so by definition it is implementation dependent code, liable to change in a later version. So don't assume anything beyond what is claimed in the API documentation. However, sometimes the documentation is incomplete or ambiguous to you, and reading the source can provide some insight, however implementation dependent. (Light a candle or curse the darkness.)
3. Why read source code? It's a good way to learn how to program. You see something in the API and ask: how'd they do that? Or you realize you want to do something broadly similar, but you can't reuse the source code.
For example, Images are not Serializable, but suppose you want a small image that is part of an object to be serialized with the rest of the object without too much fuss (ie, without using javax.imageio). You notice ImageIcon is serializable, so you use it. (An ImageIcon has-an Image.) Then you wonder: how'd they do that? You read the source and then you know.

I'm at my parent's place for the weekend and I forgot to bring my charger, I have an essay to finish for Monday but my laptop it completely dead! Is there any way i can remote access my files on their desktop?

detach HD
download fresh Ubuntu Live CD
burn it
install Mac HD into desktop. Be careful to not short circut something.
find USB stick
you're ready.
boot from Ubuntu live
go to Macintosh HD - Users - your user - documents
find needed document there
insert USB stick
copy document to it
shutdown
remove Mac HD from PC, set it back to mac
reboot Pc, remove ubuntu DVD
find your documents on USB stick.

I have been working on an applet for a while now. In a sudden I started getting the following exception that I never got or seen before. I do have this line of code System.setProperty("swing.aatext", "true");
I am using java 6 on my browser. Need your help. I have no clue why I am getting it or how to avoid it.

Adding this to your jnlp file should also work:

     </security>
Doing so should work for any user that accesses your application from the web. Sign the jar first though (use the NetBeans sign option when generating your webstart application).
