Need of Share Applications tier

Dear Expat,
we are implemting Oracle Apps R12, this is our infrastructure.
Production
1 node for Oracle DB 11g
1 node for Applications (Forms , reports , CM etc)
1 node for Web Server (for external users/vendor on Public IP)
All are connected with SAN drive, redhat linux 5.3.
Kindly advise, can I configur the share application tier for both Apps and Web Server. Then my patching and other maintanince will be low;
I have to assinge the Public IP for the external user on web server.
What will be the best way to achive all????
Is the O/S also be clusterd?
This just to achive make less maintenance (one application node instead because the appltop is shared)
Kindly correct where I am wrong...
Regards
SR

Hi atul, I notice that this may be a dead thread but I belive the answer to your question is that when you run autoconfig and chek the log you will notice that there is a preliminary stage where it says updating contect values int he databse. at that point if the database has a higher serrial number than the filesystem file then the filesystem contect file will be updated by the values in the database *( i assume not all of the values. this will then result in createion of an updated xml file. in fact the xml file is rewritten every time you run autoconfig*

  • Move CM Node to Database node from Application Tier

    Hi,
I have setup like this...my set up is 2 node...one node is Database node and another is Application Node.
Now I want to move Concurrent Manager Node from Application Node to Database Node..
I Can do this using RAPIDCLONE.....
What My Doubt is to move the CM Node...
Do I have to copy APPL_TOP , COMMON_TOP and ORA_TOPs or only APPL_TOP to database node
    Plase help it out

    Hi,
I want to Move CM to Database node using Shared Applicaiton File System Feature...It is very cool.....
I did not understand one point there...These lines are from this document
Sharing the Application Tier File System in Oracle Applications 11i Doc ID: Note:233428.1
Section 3: Sharing an existing Applications file system
    In the 3rd point....
    Make the Applications files accessible
Mount the shared disk to all application tier nodes
Suppose, I have Total Application Tier File System in the Application Node is in /u01 partition...Do I have to NFS Share this partition and Mount it in Database Node...is it correct??? like this I have to do it na....
    (1) NFS share the /u01 partition File system in the Application Node
    (3) mount the /u01 file system in the Database Node
    $mount /u01 /u01
    Is it correct ?????
If I have to apply any patch...Only we need to apply it on Primary node..once we apply it..it is automatically appearing the node 2....because it is shared file system....Only use is....For CM Running purposes..Database Node Resources(CPU and RAM) will be used......right.....
We no need to touch the Shared File System in the Database Node 2 in this scenario....right....
    Please confirm it...

    Hi,
    Try these 3 solutions
    1. Did you start vncserver services as:
    service vncserver start
2.Check that port 5901 has not been blocked by a firewall:
    # nc -vz localhost 5901
You should get a connection and a termination. If you get an error, fix the firewall.
    3. service iptables stop
    Hope This Helps

  • My boss needs to share his calendar with me. How can we do it without buying more hardware?

So my boss has tons of mac stuff, iPhone, macbook, iPad, etc and he has dozens of calendars all synchronized between them with iCloud. He needs to share them with me.
I signed up for an iCloud account, but it says:
"To sign in with this account, use it to set up iCloud on a device."
"To set up iCloud, go to iOS 5 Settings or OS X Lion System Preferences"
D'oh! I don't have an OSX or iOS 5 device, just an iOS 4 iTouch!  Is there a way for my boss to share his apple iCloud calendar with me on my PC (Windows 7) or my iTouch?
I usually use Google Calendar, and it's so easy to share with anybody, I expected mac to be even easier. Shouldn't a cloud based service have cloud based sharing, e.g. log onto a website and see the calendar?

You either have an incredibly complex computer setup or I think you are confusing terminology here.  If you have iTunes set to share your library with others in your iTunes preferences then other computers in the area will see it as an item when they are running their iTunes and have it set to check for shared libraries.  Your husband is probably seeing this when running iTunes on his computer.  You can disable this sharing on your computer and/or he can set his not to pick up shared libraries.
By the way, an iTunes account is something you log into when you want to buy something from Apple.  On your computer it is simply your iTunes collection or your iTunes application.  So you need to turn off sharing in your iTunes application preferences.
Your husband is seeing "his" iTunes collection when running iTunes, but it is possible he doesn't have anything in it if it is a brand new computer.

  • Need To Share XP Virtual machine on Macbook Pro in Fusion

I have an XP Virtual machine that I need to share on our Macbook Pro. The problem is that even if I create it in shared folders, I can't share it with anyone but the user who created it. I've discovered that when I check the permssions, there is a "ghost" user called "Staff" and I can't change any of the permissions for "Staff".
I would appreciate any assistance that anyone can provide. As I'm in the early stages of building the VM, I can delete and recreate if necessary.

    Vincentjuhhh wrote:
How much RAM do I need to run a virtual machine and also have a fast macbook pro that opens applications in 1 second?
That's like asking how many horsepower you need to go from 0-60 in under 6 seconds.  If the vehicle you're driving (the virtual machine) is a Mack Truck pulling 15 Tons of steel, you need quite a few more horses than if you're talking about a F1 race car with a carbon fiber body.
This isn't a question that can be answered based on the information you've provided.
Reduce the resources allocated to the VM and see if performance of your Mac apps improves to an acceptable level.
Given the price of RAM these days, there's virtually no reason not to increase the amount of RAM you have to the maximum your computer will support.

  • R12 - Using SOA - Do you need a separate Apps tier?

Hi All, looking at SOA suite at the moment and have a question about what installs are needed.
I have 12.0.0 installed on Linux with the standard technology stacks out of the box. (Will be upgrading to 12.0.6 but not for the next 8 weeks) I want to be able to use SOA suite and my question is a basic one on software install requirements.
When I look at SOA Suite I can see that this is shown as App Server 10g Release 3. (10.1.3.x) on the Oracle site. Now I already have 10.1.3 from the R12 install. Do I need to download SOA Suite (App server 10g R3) and have an additional Apps server install or can you patch the R12 one if this is possible/required?
Appreciate any info from those using SOA with Oracle Apps R12 who can confirm installs etc. I am going for the most straight forward solution initially as want to spend more time looking at SOA before deciding to use in earnest. If the most straight forward way is to download the SOA Suite as an additional apps server tier then so be it.
    Cheers Cel

    Celwyn,
I do not have SOA integrated with R12, but what I know is you need to install SOA in a different ORACLE_HOME on an existing E-Business Suite Release 12 application-tier server or on a server that is physically separate from an existing E-Business Suite Release 12 Applications server (recommended).

  • Unified APPL_TOP in R12 for High Availability application tier?

    Hi Gurus,
I have come up with an idea but i need your inputs on its possibility.
    Consider: i have node1 and node2
    Node1: Forms and Web
    Node2: CM and DB
    i have shared appl_top between node1 and node2.
    My questions:
    1. According to Unified APPL_TOP concept in R12, can i shift the FROMS AND WEB services from node1 to node2 incase the hardware on node1 fails?
    2. Similarly vice versa, that is, can i switch CM from node2 to node1 incase node2 hardware server fails.
If yes, kindly inform me the resources and metalink note ids for the same.
Using above i am trying to make it HA application tier.
    Please help on this.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Sorry to update after long time. A just came to me.
384248.1 says that we need to use Linux OCFS for shared appl_top.The note does not say that you must use OCFS. :-) It says that OCFS2 is certified and supported for R12 application tier file systems. That does not mean that OCFS is your only option.
1> Is it compulsory to have OCFS to use shared appl_top? if yes what OCFS we should use?
No, it is not compulsory. If you want to use OCFS, however, the supported and certified version is specified in Note 384248.1 Another fairly common solution is to use NFS to deploy the shared application tier filesystem.

    # The following are special environment variables designed to allow Oracle
    # Applications customers to link 3rd-party software into documented interface
    # points in Oracle Applications C code.
    # For each product listed below, there are two environment variables defined.
    # One is of the form: VND<PROD>SL
    # and the other is of the form: VND<PROD>PL
    # where <PROD> is replaced by the abbreviation for a specific product,
    # VND stands for Vendor (3rd-party vendor),
    # SL stands for Shared Libraries,
    # and PL stands for Private Libraries.
    # For example: VNDARSL, VNDARPL, VNDPAYSL, VNDPAYPL
    # Each Vendor Libraries variable defined below should be set to '' if you are
    # not linking in any 3rd-party software. If you are linking 3rd-party
    # software into a specific product, you must change the Vendor Libraries
    # variables for that product.
    # If you are linking in 3rd-party software, VND<PROD>SL and VND<PROD>PL
    # should be set to include: 1) the 3rd-party interface object modules, and
    # 2) the 3rd-party libraries (in that order).
    # For example:
    # VNDPAYSL='$(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3c.o $(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3v.o $(VND_LINK)'
    # VNDPAYPL='$(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3c.o $(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3v.o $(VND_LINK)'
    # Notes on setting the Vendor Libraries variables:
    # 1) You must enclose the value you assign to each vendor libraries variable
    # in single quotes as in the example above.
    # The right way to specify a value for a vendor libraries variable:
    # VNDPAYPL='$(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3c.o $(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3v.o $(VND_LINK)'
    # The wrong way to specify a value for a vendor libraries variable:
    # VNDPAYPL="$(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3c.o $(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3v.o $(VND_LINK)"
    # 2) You must enclose all environment variable references in parentheses, as
    # in the example above.
    # The right way to reference an environment variable:
    # $(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3c.o
    # The wrong way to reference an environment variable:
    # $PAY_TOP/lib/py3c.o
    # 3) Any user-defined environment variables (like VND_LINK in the example
    # above) must be set and exported in this file. There is a special
    # section for this purpose below.
    # Example:
    # Needed when linking in 3rd Party Software
    # VND_VERTEX='$(PAY_TOP)/vendor/quantum'
    # VND_LINK='$(VND_VERTEX)/lib/libvprt.a \
    # $(VND_VERTEX)/lib/libqutil.a \
    # $(VND_VERTEX)/lib/libloc.a \
    # $(VND_VERTEX)/lib/libcb63.a'
    # VNDPAYSL='$(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3c.o $(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3v.o $(VND_LINK)'
    # VNDPAYPL='$(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3c.o $(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3v.o $(VND_LINK)'
    # export VND_VERTEX VND_LINK VNDPAYPL VNDPAYSL
    # Needed when APPLPAYLINK!=cob
    # VNDPAYSL=''
    # VNDPAYPL=''
    # export VNDPAYPL VNDPAYSL
    # 4) Any user-defined environment variables (like VND_LINK in the example
    # above) must begin with 'VND_', or the Oracle Applications Relinking
    # Utility (adrelink) will remove them from the linking environment.
    # Note: COBDIR is an exception to this rule.
    # The right way to name a user-defined environment variable:
    # VND_LINK
    # The wrong way to name a user-defined environment variable:
    # VENDOR_LIBS
    # 5) You do not need to include the product library for the Oracle
    # Applications product into which you are linking your 3rd-party libraries
    # in the value you assign to each vendor libraries variable.
    # All you need is:
    # VNDPAYPL='$(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3c.o $(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3v.o $(VND_LINK)'
    # You don't need:
    # VNDPAYPL='$(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3c.o $(PAY_TOP)/lib/py3v.o $(VND_LINK) $(LPAYLIB)'
    # End of notes on setting the Vendor Libraries variables
    # In general, you should set VND<PROD>SL and VND<PROD>PL to have the same
    # value. If you need to set them to different values for a given product,
    # this will be stated below or stated in the documentation that comes with
    # the product in question.
    # If there are no Vendor Libraries variables listed below for a given product,
    # that means the product in question does not have any documented interface
    # points for linking in 3rd-party software.

  • How do I share applications between accounts (ie Skype)

Not sure how to share applications between accounts?  If I load Skype to my account for example, how can my wife see and use that same Skype account without having to have her own?

There are two aspects to this ... 1) where you install the Skype software on your Mac and 2) whose ID you use to login to Skype.
    1) You should always install software in the root /Applications folder.  This is the default installation folder for nearly all software.  Installing in /Applications makes the program (app) available to all user accounts on your Mac.  If you install the software in any other folder (especially a folder inside your own user account), it will usually limit use of the software to that account only.
    2) After installing Skype as I indicated above, if you want your wife to use her own user account on the Mac, but sign in to Skype with your Skype user ID, all she needs to do is log into her account on the Mac and then open Skype and sign into Skype with your user ID & password.

  • I have to run Windows for work, which is best Parallels, Fusion, or Boot Camp? I won't need to share anything with the Mac Side.

I have to run Windows for work, yuk! Which is best Parallels, Fusion, or Boot Camp? I will not need to share anything with my Mac side as I will just be running one program to chat on the web and send Emails.

Parallels, Fusion and VirtualBox are all virtualization applications, they 'virtualize' (create) a Windows environment on your Macs OSX operating system.
Boot Camp makes a compatible partition on your hard drive so you may install windows on it directly.

  • Installing EBS 12.1.3 Database tier on 64 bit & Application tier on 32 bit

    Hi Gurus,
we want to install the MOC ,EBS 12.1.3 on below two machine
    Database tier on
    Windows Server 2008 (64 bit)
Database Oracle 11.2 (Already have database having JDE schema)
    Application tier on
    Windows Server 2008 (32 bit)
Below are the step we are going to flow .
    Download the EBS 12.1.1.
Apply Patch 8639046 to have the Rapid Install wizard to 12.1.1.11 for Windows Server 2008.
Install EBS 12.1.1 on database tier using Rapid install.
Install EBS 12.1.1 on Application tier using Rapid install.
Use Auto Patch to apply R12.AD.B.DELTA.3 Patch 9239089
Use Auto Patch to apply Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3 Patch 9239090
Use Auto Patch to apply the latest consolidated online help Patch 9239095.
My problem is we already have Oracle Database 11.2 in Database tier .
So can we give the already exixting database name in EBS 12.1.1
and below document talks about migrating exixting EBS database to the database tier for 64 bit.
but does not have information for installation.

So can we give the already exixting database name in EBS 12.1.1You cannot use an existing database for EBS purpose - you have to install the database that comes with the R12.1.1 software. If the JDE schema is required, then export it from the current database you have, delete the database, install the 12.1.1 database, then create the schema in this new database and perform an import.

  • Why do two iPods need to share the same library? Is there any way I can change it?

I owe one iPod and brought another today, and I just set up the other one. They're both the same model - iPod touch 8GB - and I've set the second one up. I've had the first one for some time, about an year, and I only bought another for a family member. I was wondering why do we need to share the same library and how can we change it. Help would be welcomed since we really like different kind of genres and we disagree on them, so we really really want to change this. I can't even say how much we need to change the setting. Thank you!

Sherlocked, There are a few ways you can solve that problem.
If you do want to share the same library, use the capabililty to "Sync Selected Playlists," so that each iPod will only get the music that its owner wants.
Alternatively, you can set up two separate libraries.  This is easiest if you use two different Windows user IDs on the computer.  Then each iPod owner can sync to his own library.
