Need opinions please!

Question

Should I purchase a Macbook Pro now heading into senior year of high school, or wait til college?
I want to record music and basically own a Macbook Pro 15 in. screen with a 2.6 - 3.0 Ghz processor and the works, but I'm not sure if i should wait til June 2010 to purchase one and have a brand new one for college, or purchase one now and have it for the entire school year, learn how to use it, and bring it to college, I'd like some opinions, anything is appreciated. I do agree mostly with what dwb said, though I disagree on waiting until your sophomore year to get a laptop. I am going into my second year of university, and I am telling you that it is almost imperative that you have your own computer. Labs fill up quickly, and if you don't get a spot then you are out of luck. Additionally, if you are living on residence borrowing someone else's computer can become annoying to both you and the person who you are asking to borrow their laptop. I know some people who had to end up doing that, because their laptops conked out, and no one was thrilled at the situation.
But since you are going into your final year of high school, I would personally recommend waiting until at least the beginning of summer to get your laptop. This way throughout the summer you can learn all the new things with Mac and its OS and get accustomed to it, in addition to getting a more updated computer. In terms of major, I guess if you are wanting to go into music production or something technical that would be another good reason to wait, so that you could find out if there are any computer specifications that your school asks for. However, if you don't think you will want to get into anything like that, it honestly doesn't matter which Mac you get.
Overall, I think its imperative that you get your laptop for your first year. If you don't think summer is enough time for you, then perhaps get the computer around Christmas time. Either way, you won't be disappointed that you got a Mac.
