Need Oracle 8.1.6 Database install

I need to support a customer (repair their database) Oracle version 8.1.6 that they have exported to a .DMP file. The earliest Oracle install I have is version 8.1.7.
The customer will not upgrade to .7, the next upgrade they plan is to 9i and they will not trust a "fixed" .DMP from an Oracle 8.1.7.
Can anyone point me to where I can acquire an Oracle 8.1.6 server install?
Failing that can you provide a very convincing argument as to why importing a .DMP from an 8.1.7 server into an 8.1.6 server is no problem... if it is really not a problem?

If you have a support contract, you might try Metalink. They'll generally have older stuff available for download.

  • Installing oracle 9i with 10g database installed , what do you suggest ?

    hi guys,
i have just installed oracle 10g on my WINDOWS XP machine
    Checked the registry , the
    oracle base
and oracle home values are as following
    oracle_base - c:\oracle\product\10.2.0
    oracle_home - c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db1
the values are correct according to what the oracle documentation has said.
now i would like to install oracle 9i on my windows XP machine as well and i would like both the 9i and 10g database to have the same ORACLE_BASE, different HOMES as what the OFA is capabable of providing.
However, i cant adopt the naming practise of oracle_base in 10g, as , IF i set the oracle_base of 9i to
    c:\oracle\product\9.2.0 - then i would have 2 different oracle_base which is wrong
    1) c:\oracle\product\9.2.0
    2) c:\oracle\product\10.2.0
SO i have to set the oracle_base of BOTH the DB to
    1) c:\oracle\product
to have them both having the same ORACLE_BASE.
what do you guys suggest ? or is there any impact ?
or should i just stick to 2 different base and 2 different homes.
    Thanks guys.

    Set ORACLE_BASE to \oracle\product
Then set the individual homes at the db_1 level.

    Hi,
Need oracle 10g software for install on OS windows 7.

You can download the file from
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/10203vista-087538.html
and install the same with ignoreSysprereqs option at command line.
However, for a certified combination, you need to download 10.2.0.5.0 patchset (patch 8202632) from Metalink and apply on top of this installation.

    Hi,

Can anybody tell, Does discoverer 11g version need oracle Database 11g or it will work on 10g Database?
    Thanks,

    chelladurai wrote:

In the past Discoverer tools/clients and EUL had to be of the same version, and I expect this to be the same for "11g".
You can probably have the Discoverer 11g EUL in a 10.x Database, but not Discoverer Admin/Plus 11g working with a previous EUL version (except, perhaps, for upgrading the schema objects to correct version of EUL).
    Check the documentation!

  • ODBC from Oracle to an other Database (Postgresql)

    Hello,
I heared that it is possible with Oracle to make a "Database Link" so in Oracle I can make a query like
    select * from myshema.mytable@myexterndb where ....
Is such a database link allowed with the Express Edition and how will I do this?
    Thank you,
    Christian

Database links to/from other Oracle databases work. As follows
    SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Beta on Mon Oct 31 11:56:42 2005
Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.
    SQL> connect system
    Enter password:
    Connected.
    SQL> create database link remote connect to hr identified by hr using 'xe';
    Database link created.
    SQL> select count(*) from employees@remote;
    COUNT(*)
    107
Note that this is doing a local loopback to the same database. However, you should also be able to access other Oracle databases provided you have the correct tnsnames.ora definition set up in the right directory - on my Windows system for the default XE install that is
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN
Connection from Oracle Database XE to third party databases via the ODBC heterogeneous services should be possible as well, but I will need to download a 3rd party product to test it. Will do so later. In the meantime, here is a link to some doc that may help you test the setup yourself - http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14232/admin.htm#i1007209

  • JDK during Oracle 9.2.0.1 install on AIX

Does anyone know why the Oracle installer for 9.2.0.1 AIX 5L requires specification of a '1.3.1' JDK.
Doesn't Oracle installer use and install its own JDK?
Does this field need to be entered with something legitimate? I have JDK 1.3.0 installed and I do not want to have another JDK installed if I can help it.
I do not plan on running any other Java apps on this AIX machine.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    最后看到一个中文帖子中的回复,心就凉了。一比较文件大小,发现是以前下载oracle 9i时下载错了 。1、Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard Edition for AIX 对应4.3.3
    2、Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard Edition for AIX-Based 5L systems 对应5.X以上版本
    比较一下文件名和文件的大小,我查了一下OTN上面的你看看,
    Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard Edition for AIX - Based 4.3.3 Systems (64-bit)
    server_9201_AIX64_Disk1.cpio.gz (523,877,469 bytes)

  • How to connect oracle with ms access database

    Dear
We are on release r12, right now we have requirement to connect oracle database with ms access to get some information. We have found gateway(Heterogeneous services) using ODBC, but at the database side where is installed oracle r12 there is no installed ms access software becuse of linux operating system, so how could it will connect ms access because without installing ms-access we are unable to find ms ODBC gateway in ODBC driver under the control panel.
Can any body guide me how could achieve this
    Edited by: oracle0282 on Sep 21, 2011 12:47 AM

If I understand you correctly you want to access Oracle on Linux from MS-Access (possible on Windows only). You need neither a gateway nor Heterogeneous Services, but an Oracle client including ODBC driver (Instant client with ODBC driver is enough) on the Windows machine.
Configure the ODBC driver with the connect informations to the Oracle server.

  • Oracle Audit Vault and Database Firewall implementaion

    Dear All,
we are planning to implement Oracle Audit Vault and Database Firewall on 2 node 11g RAC/solaris10, please advise me to ahead in details
    Thanks

Recently purchased Audit Vault and Database Firewall
My question is with Audit Vault.
All of the documentation says that i need Oracle Linux 5.8 as part of the installation. We do not have any servers now that support 5.8 currently. When I check the HCL for Oracle Linux 5.8 i see only 4 Oracle servers that support this version
    Sun Server X2-4
    Sun Server X2-8
    Sunfire X2270 M2
    Sunfire X4470
The only two servers that are currently offer for purchase by Oracle are the X2-4 and X2-8 which are way overkill both in power and price for this application.
The X2270 M2 would fit nicely, but is no longer offered for sale. In it place is the X3-2 which would fit nicely, but it listed as supporting Oracle Linux 5.8. Oracle Linux 5.9 is supported on the X3-2.
My question is will Oracle Linux 5.9 or newer install to support Audit Vault? The documentation specifies Linux 5.8. Is this flexible or not?
    Thanks,

  • Oracle RMAN and SAP Databases

    Hi all,
Am mainly an Oracle DBA and had just recently return to supporting SAP customers after a 4 year absence of supporting non-SAP customers.
Anyway, I have some question on using Oracle RMAN with SAP databases. Backup softwares are Netbackup and Data Protector.
I managed to get the backup working, that is, there is no issues, Oracle RMAN backup using SAP's brarchive and brbackup works alright. My question is about using an Oracle RMAN catalog. I've read thru several SAP documentation and cannot find one where I can use a RMAN catalog.
    Reading from
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/d1/43d7cab9a04a409cc46876e36762c2/content.htm
Does that mean I cannot use a RMAN catalog? Had anyone managed to use a RMAN catalog to do the RMAN backup?
*Another question I have is, do I need Netbackup and Data Protector if I want to run RMAN backup to disk via brarchive and brbackup? Does backint requires a SBT library to use RMAN? What I mean is, I want to use RMAN but doing backup to disk instead of to tape which means I don't need the tape library installed, will backint know that this is the case and will not look for the tape library?
Any advise or feedback on this will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Extracts from http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/d1/43d7cab9a04a409cc46876e36762c2/content.htm are as below:
The Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) is an Oracle backup program. You can use it as a command line interface (CLI) or as a graphical user interface (GUI) in the Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM). We support RMAN with the SAP backup tools BRBACKUP and BRARCHIVE.
RMAN uses the System Backup to Tape (SBT) interface to back up to tape devices. We implement SBT using the SAP backup library. External backup tools can implement this interface as a dynamic link library (DLL).
    Integration
By integrating RMAN into BRBACKUP, you can add security and flexibility to important functions in existing backup strategies and tools:
    · The recovery catalog is not used. The backup information is stored in the control file. After the backup, the control file is also backed up. In a restore, the control file is restored first, followed by the data files.
    · The integration of RMAN into BRBACKUP also guarantees integration into the SAP Structure linkComputing Center Management System (CCMS).
    · BRBACKUP tape management functions as previously (that is, as when using the SAP backup library).
    · You can still use the BACKINT interface with external tools.
    · All previous SAP backup strategies are supported while using RMAN. Nevertheless, RMAN is not supported for standby database backups and split-mirror backups.
    · The following components are delivered with the standard Oracle8 installation:
¡ RMAN with the Oracle SBT interface
¡ Backup library and backup tool Networker from Legato
¡ Legatou2019s BACKINT interface implementation (as of Oracle 8.0.5)
The SAP installation also delivers the SAP backup library with BRBACKUP and BRARCHIVE.

    Hi,
This question has been answered by Stefan Koehler. Not sure why the thread is not updated by his response. I am hoping to give him the max points actually.
It was a very good response which is as below:
Subject: Re: Oracle RMAN and SAP Databases
    Message: Hello,
    > Does that mean I cannot use a RMAN catalog? Had anyone managed to use a RMAN catalog to do the RMAN backup?
Correct - if you are using the BR*Tools and RMAN you are not able to use a RMAN catalog with it.
You can do manual catalog syncs, but the BR*Tools are not supporting a catalog database.
    >Does backint requires a SBT library to use RMAN?
Check this documentation (Point "RMAN Backups Without Backup Library"): http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/3f/9d800e1aec11d2b42c00609419997a/content.htm
    > Any advise or feedback on this will be very much appreciated.
We are also using RMAN for taking backup of all our oracle database (SAP and non-SAP), but without any BR*Tools.
That is also possible - check sapnote #105047 (Part "50. Recovery Manager (RMAN)").
As you mentioned, that you are a fulltime DBA you should have enough knowledge to use RMAN without BR*Tools.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • ASMCA needs Oracle Grid Infrastructure to configure ASM

    Hi,
I am trying to install ASM 11gR2 on RHEL5. I am using VMWare Workstation for this.
I have already installed Oracle database software and Grid Infrastructure on this machine. While installing Grid Infrastructure, I chose install Grid Infrastructure software only.
Once this was successfull I am trying to create ASM instance using asmca.
Regarding the disks, I am using raw devices. I created a virtual disk which I have partitioned but haven't formatted it. Done this to create raw device
    [root@localhost sysconfig]# /bin/raw /dev/raw/raw1 /dev/sdb
    /dev/raw/raw1: bound to major 8, minor 16
    and have added
    ACTION=="add",KERNEL=="sdb",RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw1 %N"
    to /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
Then I tried creating the disk but it failed. So I did the following steps to fix it
    [root@dhcppc2 Softwares]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk VOL1 /dev/sdb
Marking disk "VOL1" as an ASM disk: [FAILED]
    [oracle@oracle11gR2 grid]$ tail -f /var/log/oracleasm
Device "/dev/sdb" is not a partition
    To fix this
    [root@localhost ~]# /usr/sbin/asmtool -C -l /dev/oracleasm -n VOL1 -s /dev/sdb -a force=yes
asmtool: Device "/dev/sdb" is not a partition
    asmtool: Continuing anyway
Now I am able to view the asmdisk through listdisks option.
Have set following environment variables before running asmca
    [oracle@oracle11gR2 ~]$ export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/Grid
    [oracle@oracle11gR2 ~]$ export PATH=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/Grid/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/home/oracle/bin
When I am running ASMCA I am facing this error - Oralce Grid Infrastrcture is not configured properly. ASMCA needs Oracle Grid Infrastructure to configure ASM
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Aman,
