Need OSX 10.6

I want to install Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on an external hard disc.  To do this apparently I need OSX 10.6 installed before I can upgrade to 10.6.8 (for which I have the dvd)
Mountain Lion won't let me access the 10.6.8 install program so that I can choose my external disc for the install location.
Where can I download 10.6?

Note that unless you have a MacBook Pro that shipped with 10.6 (or very shortly after 10.7 was released), you will not be able to install 10.6 from that computer. Installation requires that the system be able to boot from the relevant installer disk, something which a newer MBP will not.
Regards.

  • I foolishly installed Kaspersky, then Safari 4.0.5 crashed, deleted safari downloaded from disc, but now won't open saying i need osx 10.0 or higher. i am running 10.6.7!

How do I repair Safari 4.0.3, 4.0.4 or 4.0.5 after installing Kaspersky AV?  I WAS running 4 or 5..don't recall..
After installing Kaspersky, Safari would crash immediately. I deleted all versions of Safari on my iMac, downloaded and tried to install Safari again.. I kept getting a message saying I needed OSX 10.0 or higher! I'm on a iMac OS X 10.6.7!
I was able to copy Safari 4.0.3 from my disc from when I purchased the computer, but it won't allow me to update at all to a higher version, stating the same reason!
    How do I fix this?

    HI,
    Code Type: X86-64 (Native)
Try running Safari in 32-bit mode.
Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. *Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*

You don't. Since you have an Intel Mac, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store.

It would depend on how old your IMac is, how mush memory you have, it it can be upgraded by OWC, etc. I have a 2006 Macbook Pro and would NOT put Mavericks on it or espeacially FCP 10.1.1 on it because the most memory it can have is 4 GB. You need at least 8 GB to work with Final Cut Pro 10.1.1. IMHO.
I would try to find a copy of Final Cut Express perhaps.
      Does this answer your question?

  • I own an imac 2011 running osx 10.6.8. I want to the new airport extreme. but it says in the system requirements that it needs osx lion 1.7.5 or later. would it work with my older osx 10.6.8?

In order to set up and install the new AirPort Extreme:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
would it work with my older osx 10.6.8?
Yes, if you set up the new AirPort Extreme using the guidelines above. The 10.6.8 Mac will be able to connect to the AirPort Extreme, but it will not be able to make any configuration changes.
Only the devices listed above can be used to set up and make any changes to the new AirPort.

As long as you don't need all the bells and whistles of the iTunes Store such as Ping, and don't need to sync an iOS device running iOS 4.x, then iTunes 9.2.1 should work for you. It should be available via Software Update, but if not, you can still get it here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1056
but it would be best to upgrade your Mac to Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6, since it's probable that eventually the iTunes Store will no longer support iTunes 9.x.
    Regards.
P.S. Mac OS X 10.4 was discontinued three and a half years ago, so yes, it's getting rather long in the tooth. Cheers.

  • Trying to get icloud, installed snow leopard, now it says I need OSX, but my processor isn't right for it. Is this possible? Do I need to buy a nw computer? will I loose all my mobile me storage?

Trying to get icloud, installed snow leopard, now it says I need OSX, but my processor isn't right for it. Is this possible? Do I need to buy a nw computer? will I loose all my mobile me storage?

You will lose the entire contents of your iDisk whether or not you migrate to MobileMe as there is no equivalent in iCloud and MobileMe will be terminated at the end of June. You will need to download any data which you don't have on your Mac already.
Snow Leopard is not compliant with iCloud and most of the facilities will not work. You can migrate from MobileMe to iCloud at http://me.com/move even with Snow Leopard: when asked to confirm that your Mac is running Lion just lie and say 'yes'. Of course you won't be able to access iCloud directly from your Mac.
If you have MobileMe mail set up to collect mail from external POP accounts you should cancel this before migrating, or you may find it still working in iCloud (where it isn't supposed to) and with no way of stopping it.
This will be the situation with Snow Leopard when you have migrated:
Your email, calendars, and 'Find my iPhone' will be migrated to iCloud. Contacts and Bookmarks cannot be migrated from a Snow Leopard Mac.
Your iDisk, together with website hosting and Gallery, will continue to work as before until next June.
Syncing of Dashboard Widgets, Dock Items and Keychains between Macs, and Mail Accounts, Mail Rules, System Preferences, Signatures & Smart Mailboxes between Macs & iOS devices, will cease altogether.
You will be able to access email and calendars on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.
You will not be able to sync contacts or bookmarks from a pre-Lion Mac.
You will be able to enter the server settings for email manually in the Mail application and access your email.
You will not be able to sync your calendars directly.
Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point.
There appears to be no method of syncing contacts (though Address Book on a Mac can be synced with Google or Yahoo address books - I don't know how reliable this is).
There are a couple of third-party solutions which may be of interest.
BusyCal is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion. A single user licence (two machines allowed) is $49.99.
Soho Organizer can sync Calendars and Contacts with iCloud on Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion. A single user licence (multiple machines allowed) is $99.99.

after inadvertenly deleting it. Appstore says: You need osx 10.9.0 or newer!

You need to install it from the computer's original disks or a retail iLife DVD. If neither of those are an option and you previously bought a compatible version from the Mac App Store, go to the Mac App Store home page, click on Support under Quick Links, contact Apple, and wait for them to reply.

Yes, you need to purchase Snow Leopard v10.6 from Apple.
You can purchase Snow Leopard from the Apple online store > Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store
Which OS X is installed on your Mac ?
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac. The version is noted there.

  • Need newest version of pages for my iMac. When trying to download latest version the message said I needed OSX 10.9? Where do I get this? I really feel stupid when I can't download a program!

I just worked on a Pages document on my iPad. I wanted to finish it on my iMac (OSX 10.7.5). I emailed the iPad Pages document to get it on my iMac. I then tryed to open the Pages document on my iMac. The message said I needed a newer version of Pages for the iMac. I then went to the Apple store to upgrade Pages for the iMac. When I tried to download the new version, I received a message that Pages couldn't be installed unless I upgraded to OSX 10.9?  What the He.. is going on?

be very careful about getting the iWork "updates."   This forum is FULL of complaints about it.
    Mavericks seems good, though.
If you try Pages 5 and dislike it, Pages 4.3 will still be located in an iWork Folder within your Applications Folder.

  • Using 9.2.2. Need OSx 10.2.8 how do i upgrade new to mac

Hey there guys i have a radeon 9200 128meg vid card but on the box it says i need this upgrade 10.2.8 how would i obtain this upgrade to go from 9.2 to 10.2.8

    Hi, Versatilx1 -
...how would i obtain this upgrade to go from 9.2 to 10.2.8
The short answer is, you can not.
OS 9 and OSX are not related - no version of OS 9 can be upgraded to any version of OSX. The underpinnings of the two OS's are not the same at all.
In order to install OSX, you will need to acquire a retail package in the base version of OSX that you want, and then upgrade that as needed via download update.
    Base versions of OSX are 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4.
There are also no upgrades available to take one base version of OSX to the next - a new purchase of the new base version is needed. This means that one should purchase only the final base version that they want.
In this case, if you want to be at OX 10.2.8, you would purchase the retail version of OSX 10.2, then update that to 10.2.8 using the approptiate download updater.
However, most requirements for OS versions, such as your Radeon card seems to have, are stated as a minimum OS version - meaning a higher version is adequate.
Since you have a G4 (AGP) model, I would suggest either OSX 10.3 or OSX 10.4, updated to the latest version available for that base version. Given that your G4 (AGP) has a max 500MHz processor (machine) speed (based on original processors that came with that model), OSX 10.3 might be the better choice. Someone with experience using OSX on a G4 (AGP) model would be better able to clarify that.
    Notes:
    • Before attempting to install OSX, be sure your firmware has been updated to v. 4.2.8 -
    http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n120068
    • It is a good idea to have at least 512MB of RAM in the machine before installing OSX.
    • OSX will install alongside OS 9; it will not replace OS 9. Both OS's are designed to co-exist on the same volume.

  • Upgrading to lion message Hard drive needs osx Journel extended to install

Upgrading from 10.6 to lion i get the message the hard drive needs to be installed on a "osx journel (extended)" hard disk. In disk utility it is in the correct format Any idea's ?

    Are you sure it's journalled?
Preferably Mac OS Extended (Journaled), or, if necessary, Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, journaled).
If the "Journaled" is missing, just select the partition (indented, under the main line for the drive), and click the Enable Journaling icon in the toolbar (or select File > Enable Journaling in the menubar).
