Need Palm Z22 driver
Hi all. I have a Palm Z22 handheld I purchased in 2005...still works great. We bought a new PC in Dec with Vista but weren't able to restore all the items from the old hard drive and can't seem to get it to recognize the Z22. Says it needs device driver, however I've misplaced the original install CD that came with it. Today I downloaded Palm Desktop 6.2 thinking that would solve the problem but it didn't. I have searched all the recommended sites for a replacement cd no one has one for the Palm Z22. Any ideas?

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
You need to go visit the Windows Hotsync board and spend some time reading through the "stickied" threads about Windows Vista issues. Actually, I'm going to move this thread to that board.
First thing you need to determine is whether your Vista computer is 32-bit or 64-bit. If it's 64-bit, there are no drivers and you will have to sync via IR beaming.

Need to set up palm Z22 on different computer
Hi. I am having serious problems with my pc. How can I set up my Palm Z22 and all its info into a different computer?
I appreciate all your help!!
Post relates to: Palm Z22Do you see the hot sync icon (circle with red and blue arrows) on the bottom right of your computer screen - right near where the time is displayed?
If it is not there, the hot sync will be disabled and you need to enable the program by opening the HOT SYNC MANAGER. This can be found when you click on Start > Programs/All Programs > Palm OS/Palm One > Hot Sync Manager.
The hot sync manager should then show up on your screen (on the bottom right) and you should be able to sync.
Let us know if this works for you!!
Good Luck!!

Palm Z22 and sync with Windows Vista 64-bit system
I have been trying to sync my Palm Z22 with a new laptop that is running the 64-bit Vista. Based on some posts I had located, I ordered an IrDA Wireless Bridge to try to resolve the connection problem. Something isn't working right and I can't figure out how to fix the problem. The IrDA adapter is listing in the hardware option on the computer so it appears to have installed correctly. The laptop has inconsistently recognized the USB connection when I plug it in however. I can not seem to get the IrDA adapter to recognize my Z22. I've got the Z22 set up to use the infrared to transfer information. I have noted that the "beam" feature is ON. I have looked at APPS and have observed that most of those options are "locked" and when I have clicked on "contacts" for example, it says it's a locked app and can not be beamed. I don't know if that is part of the problem or unrelated. I also happened to observe that the Apps are listed as what to transfer with MODEM connection but I'm not sure why that is even showing as a connection option since I've never used the modem to connect.
I can successfully use my Z22 to connect via USB cable to my Vista 32-bit computer system. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong in my attempts to use the adapter and connecting the Z22 with the new laptop.
I'm not sure what else to do and would very much appreciate some help with this. Could someone PLEASE tell me what I may be doing wrong re: the setup connection between the adapter and Z22 or any other ideas re: what the problem may be concerning why I'm not yet being successful in getting this setup to work...?
Many thanks in advance for any assistance with this problem.
Post relates to: Palm Z22Sorry for the delay in replying (bet you were hoping this worked, huh?) but it has taken some time to uninstall & reinstall the Palm software and make numerous attempts to configure the information to again try to sync the Z22 with the laptop. I went back to amazon.com and located the device I'd purchased to confirm it would work with the 64-bit Vista. Someone had posted their success in using the adapter for exactly what I need to do - sync my Z22 with a 64-bit Vista computer. That consumer's posting noted: "The USB 1510 provided the solution. As soon as I plugged it into the USB port of the laptop, Vista went online, found the driver, and installed it. I was able to set up IR Hotsync as I would have on any laptop with a built-in IRDA port."
I don't know what problem I'm having but have noted that my palm desktop software doesn't note what device (Z22) is to be connected and I can't find anything in the HotSync manager that allows me to specify that device. For some reason, I had gotten an error message and it referenced a Treo connection which is odd since I don't have a Treo and I downloaded this Palm desktop from the Z22 site online...? I did note my software on my Z22 is a v. 5 but when I checked various support sites online, it appears to indicate that version on my Z22 would be compatible with the Palm 6.2 version I just downloaded to my computer (and I can't find any information to indicate a newer software for my Z22 is available or how to do that either).
So, I'm back to not being able to get my Z22 to be recognized by my computer via the infrared adapter. I'm hoping that some of the added information I've been able to provide may give another clue of something else I can try before I have to give up and contact Amazon to return this device and either try to decide what other device may be an option. I had checked with a local computer supply store here but they don't carry any type of device for this purpose so that's why I resorted to searching online for a solution to this problem.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you may still be able to provide. I really do appreciate your time with this matter. -
Palm z22 restoring portion of lost calendar items
Hello, I'm new here. I have palm z22 (v 4.5.2P) & I back up fairly regularly on my PC. Learning from previous disasters, now when I back up, on my PC I "rename" my datebook (calendar) file from datebook.bak to datebook 02-03-10.bak (or whatever the current date is). This allows me to save many backups so that if I get corrupt files on my handheld & do a sync, it won't overwrite my good backup file with a corrupt one. The question I have is that the calendar (datebook) on my handheld is good for the last year or so, as well as in the future, but I recently discovered that everything has disappeared that was over a year (or so) old (except the recurring events). I found my old datebook backup file from then, but I don't know how to restore to the calendar (datebook) on my handheld only the old items, without deleting the current and future items on my handheld. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bob
First we need to create a new username in Palm Desktop. I would suggest calling it test. Then close Palm Desktop, and find the username in the C drive(Should be near your username). Then delete all the files in the datebook folder. Then delete all the files in the datebook folder. Copy the datebook.bak file you need to the test username datebook folder. Rename the datebook.bak file to datebook.dat.
Open Palm Desktop to see if your older data is in the Calendar. If it is then export it out by using file and export. Then move to your other username and then using import import the calendar you just exported in and you should be all set. Sync the data with desktop overwrites handheld and you should be done.
Post back if you have any more questions. -
Palm Z22 won't sync to new laptop Windows Vista 64 bit
I just got a new laptop and I am unable to sync my Palm Z22 with windows vista 64 bit. My computer keeps saying I need a device driver installed but it can't find it. I did read some of the other threads but am still confused. My laptop is bluetooth compatible but my palm is not. Is there a way to make my Palm bluetooth capable? Or any other way for the device to sync?
Post relates to: Palm Z22Because the Z22 has neither Bluetooth or Wi-Fi (and has no way to add either, because it lacks an expansion card slot), the only way to Hotsync your Z22 to a Vista 64-bit computer is with Infrared (IR) beaming. That means you will need to buy an IR adapter for your computer. I don't have direct experience in making it work, but this thread discusses how:

Can I transfer Palm Z22 info from my Mac to a Tungsten E22???
Any help appreciated...the Z22 has really died. Thanks.
Post relates to: Palm Z22You will need an external drive formatted as Mac OSX Extended (journaled).
In iMovie, click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK. You should see your drive listed.
In iMovie, select your Project in the Project Libary List View. Hold down the Command key as you drag it to the icon for the external drive in the Project Library List view.
Now select the Project in the Project Library List view, and click FILE/CONSOLIDATE MEDIA. This will allow you to bring over the Events, Music, and Photos that are referenced in the project to your external hard drive.
Now, just plug the external drive into the other Mac and you can edit. -
Hot Synching Palm Z22 with 64 bit Windows 7
I just purchased a new Sony Vaio running 64 bit Windows 7 and I'm unable to Hot Sync my Palm Z22 to my computer. I've been a Palm user for years, with my current one being my 3rd model and it's been my lifeline but I'm highly agitated and frustrated that the Palm folks haven't posted any updates to handle my current situation. Everything I read here indicates spending additional money to go the infrared route and some people aren't even having success while others struggled a long time to make it eventually sync. Does anyone out there have an identical situation as mine, who'd be willing to give me sound advice as to what I need to do and how to do it in order to get my Palm to communicate with my 64 bit Windows 7 platform? Thank you to anyone who's able to assist.

This question was solved.
View Solution.@MrCobol:
This subject has been discussed and beaten to death in many other threads here. The facts (again) are:
1. Palm sold the rights to Palm Desktop many years ago. Railing against Palm/HP makes no sense. If you want an update, complain to Access of Japan. They are the owners of the software, and they chose to drop the ball.
2. Many other companies have struggled to come up with 64bit drivers for their existing software (that they actually own!)
3. Palm OS devices were EOL'd quite a while ago. They were supported through Vista 32 bit. Microsoft changed things, and you chose to buy a 64bit system. HPalm has moved on to a whole new OS and devices, and support for PalmOS is nearing an end.
Yes, it would have been great if Access stepped up to the "plat" and provided a 64bit version of Palm Desktop, but that didn't happen. Workarounds have been provided on this forum by devoted users, and they do work!

Palm Z22 and issue with using Outlook 2007.
Info: Palm Z22, Desktop software for Palm is updated to most current, Outlook 2007, 32 bit Windows Vista computer.
I have been using Palm Z22 for several years. I want to use Outlook 2007 but cannot get the data from the Palm device or the Palm desktop software transfered to the Outlook 2007. I have tried a reinstall of the Palm Destop software, including choosing the Outlook option over the Palm option and nothing happens.
My goal is to use Outlook 2007 to sync with the Palm Z22 device and vice versa. I am wanting the calendar primarily.
Thankyou for any help.

Palm Z22 screen problems.
Hello i own a Palm Z22. yesterday the screen on it stoped working. i was playing solitair on it the night before the screen stoped working. i had left it on my living room table. i have tried resetting the device but that has not worked. is there anything i can do to fix it? Or do i need to have it replaced? i use the device for my job so i really need to fix it.
Thanks,
Morgan L.
Post relates to: Palm Z22Have you done a soft or hard reset of the device yet? To do a soft reset if you do not know how to do one, is you put the stylus in the reset hole in the back of the device. If you do not know what a hard reset is go here http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887. Now I should tell you this will remove everything from the device and restore it back to factory settings. So you should sync it to a computer so you have your data backed up.
If you did a soft and hard resets and the problem is still not resolved you need to have the device repaired or replaced. You can call into our support at 866-935-7256.

Palm Z22, Vista, AMD Phenom X4, Asus will not sync
I have a Palm Z22 and a computer with an AMD Phenom X4 CPU, an Asus motherboard, and Vista.
Sync problems range from unrecognized device to no progress when HotSync tries to connect.
I have worked with Palm techs and with Microsoft and tried every trick I have read about including modifying the register.
My hardware vendor has also tried, including going back to XP with no luck on this hardware.
Has anyone had success connecting in this configuration?
Post relates to: Palm Z22I do not have bluetooth on either the PC or the Palm, but I have tried a USB to IrDA dongle. No help, same result.
In my most recent attempt, the USB driver window in the lower right says the Palm driver is loaded. I also have an entry in the USB window that says an unidentified device has been found. Sometimes I get the window that says connecting. Next, the Palm shows that the connection could not be established.
Just tried again to sync with the cable, and the USB window in the lower right reports that the device is not working correctly, replace the device. As mentioned before, the Palm works perfectly on my old XP based machine and on another Vista computer
The Desktop software from Access has a note that it will not work with multi-CPU machines; however, it also states that this does not apply to multi-core CPUs.
Is it possible that I am the only person using a multi-core CPU ? Or maybe the AMD quad-core Phenom is seen as multiple CPUs. The speed advantage of this CPU and motherboard are why I selected this configuration.

Palm Z22 old version-sync problems. Won't stop.
Have old Palm Z22. Downloaded new software and now can't sync. It starts, won't stop or close. Must shut off computer to stop it! Tried to uninstall new program, loaded old one from CD and still have the problem. Palm works fine but can't sync , so whats the point. Please Help.
Post relates to: Palm Z22Firstly, you do not have to shut down your computer to end the hot sync. Click Ctrl +Alt + Delete on your computer to bring up the task manager. Click on Hot Sync and click "end task" and then "end now" to the message that comes up on the computer screen to end the hot sync.
Then, restart the hot sync manager by clicking on Start > Programs/All Programs > Palm One/Palm Desktop > Hot Sync Manager. You will then see the hot sync icon (circle with red and blue arrows) on the bottom right of your computer screen right near where the time is displayed.
Do you use the calendar on your palm at all? Is there any info there that needs to be sync'd to your computer? -
Unable to isync palm Z22, failing on ical
just got a new palm z22, set up for isync. i've got Mac OSX 10.3.9, isync 1.5, ical 1.5.5(v670).
in hotsync conduit manager, for isync conduit, checked "enable isync for this palm device". when i do sync, it takes forever the first time (as expected) but ultimately it fails, hotsync log is pasted below. however, it does look like all my entries (from ical, address book, etc.) DID get added to my palm! however without a successful initial sync i'm assuming subsequent syncs will also take forever and fail.
checked free space on my palm after sync failure, it says i have free space 19.4M of 24.6M. i have 8 years worth of data in my ical but it's not very big, on palm it says calendar is 672K / 8568 records. interestingly, it also says date book is 467K / 8555 records. i didn't get any conduit conflicts so am not sure why they both are getting updated.
did see some postings about manually managing conduits in /Library/Application Support/Palm Hotsync/Conduits folders, but after one of my syncs, everything in that folder disappeared! even so, hotsync does seem to run and data gets added to my Palm but sync ultimately fails.
if anyone could provide some pointers it would be GREATLY appreciated!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --Michael, thanks for your prompt reply, and for pointing me to that thread. to make my long story short:
1) i went into hotsync conduit manager and set ALL of them to "do nothing" except for isync (set to enable isync for this device), backup (set to backup) and install (set to install files)
2) did a hard reset of the palm device
unfortunately sync failed again, here is the tail end of the hotsync log:

again though, it does look like all the ical and address book data did in fact make it onto the palm device, but the sync just dies at the end. i don't think the ical size is the problem, same stats as in my original message, 19.5M of 24.6M free on the palm.
somewhere in my many sync / reset / sync / reset attempts, my /HD/Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits folder got empty. so i can't follow your advice of moving conduits to the disabled folder, because neither the conduits nor the disabled folder even exist anymore! is that of any concern? -
Help please with my first sync to palm z22
Hi,
I really hope someone can help, I've read every help file I could find & am still stuck on getting my new Palm z22 to sync to my iCal on my macbook.
I installed all the palm software, then in iSync chose to 'enable palm OS syncing' - All this seemed to go smoothly, but no icon for the device (which is plugged in via the usb cable) appeared in iSync, as the instructions suggested it would. Also, if i try adding a device, iSync scans but says 'finds no devices'
If i choose to hotsync on the device, i do get all the positive messages on the macbook screen & the device says 'hotsyncing operation complete' but none of the information from my iCal is in the calender on the palm?
Have I missed/misunderstood something?
Adamjust worked it out, there was a box that needed ticking under the hotsync managers - conduit settings. works now
