Need permanent fix to Sad Mac problem

My old 4th gen iPod sometimes goes into Sad Mac mode. I thought I'd have to replace it, but then read that the problem is often caused by a loose hard drive cable. I followed instructions on how to crack the case, unplugged then replugged the hard drive, and snapped it all back together.
It worked! The iPod was good as new.
Just one problem. A week or two later, the same thing happened. I did the same repair, but once again, it died in a week.
I wear the iPod when jogging, and plainly, the cable keeps working loose. What I need is a good way to fix it in place permanently. Nothing as extreme as super glue, but I'm open to ideas. I'm thinking rubber bands. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

The sad iPod problem - may be causing by the bad sector on the hard drive of the iPod (which may able to be solved by formatting the iPod (not a quick format), or the needle of the HD getting stuck at a certain point, which can be solved by plugging and unplugging of the cable as you mentioned.
Super glue is not an idea as it is hard to unplug it in the future. If I were you I will use the silicon glue instead

    It has no correlation.  You do not have to have an Apple ID in order house an iPhone.  An Apple ID is only needed to use iCloud and iTunes & App Store on an iPhone.  You can have an iPhone set up as new, no user data whatsoever, and still connect to wi-fi. 
    Making a new Apple ID had nothing to do with fixing the wi-fi on your iPhone.  It's like saying that putting a new driver into a car suddenly fixed the transmission problem.

  • After warranty: permanent fix Yoga loose screw problem before case breaks

    Yoga laptops tend to use tiny 2mm case screws and they often fall out. The screws in the rear secure the hinge and once that becomes loose the case will eventually break. Others may be interested in a permanent fix because it's mechanically impossible for these screws to stay in place: they are obviously underdimensioned both in diameter and in length.
    After I had my broken case replaced by Lenovo, at my own expense, the screw in the left corner soon worked itself out again. Here's how I fixed it, drilling all the way through the existing hole, not pretty, but it has worked well over several months and it saves from regularly having the case break. (It's $280 each time. Lenovo has officialy never seen the problem, at least in my correspondance with them. It is a customer abuse issue.)
    The materials for the fix run to about 25 cents: a #6 screw and a nut. I had to file away at the lid to make room for the nut. Also, the screw needs to be cut and filed. The screw cannot be completely countersunk. Extra protection is necessary at the underside of the case.
    Bolting the bottom case sandwich this way holds the hinge in place.

    Follow-up: as others have experienced, Lenovo does apparently not accept loose or missing screws or consequental dammage as a valid warranty claim.
    Indeed, I received the message from Lenovo: "After further diagnosis, our repair engineers found damages on your computer that is not covered by the Lenovo limited warranty."  
    Yet, I had very clearly explained that the mechanical damage was the result of a missing screw.
    Thus my extended warranty claim was easily denied, because this warranty extends the original warranty!! More wasted work.
    So, I have my Yoga back, though, for almost three hundred dollars. The repair was fine. Nightmare is over. But I won't hide my feelings: I'm profoundly unhappy this treatment. Also, I'm abstaining from using the Yoga in tablet mode: it's simply not sturdy enough, the flexing of the case will lead to the same problem again.
    Luckily, as a laptop it works quite well!

  • Need to fix some blackberry curve problems!

    Hey, guys! I am new to this forum and need to find some answer for my Blackberry phone.
    I have a Blackberry curve that seems to have some problems. Every time I attempt to plunge it on my computer, a card error would pop out and asks to format it for using. But, I still have some photos and videos that have not been backed up timely. Are they still recoverable? Do I have to format it? Do you know any way for me to firstly copy off all these photos and videos?

    1). Do not format your Blackberry phone before you’ve recovered all your stored photos and videos back. In your case, the formatting process may erase everything on your phone memory card and make your data gone permanently.
    2). Never save anything new on this phone memory card in case that any new file would rewrite your original data.
    3). Plunge this phone to your computer and download professional phone memory card data recovery program to get back all your lost data back.
    In fact, as I know, there are many similar data recovery tools that can help rescue inaccessible data back form a “Not Formatted” phone memory card, especially some phone memory card data recovery freeware, such as 4 Card Recovery Freeware, Recuva and TestDisk, etc.
    4). Format this phone after the successful data recovery process to see whether the card problem can be fixed.
    5). Never forget to back up everything important at least on two cards or drives in the future.

  • Need a fix for Muse upload problems to GoDaddy????  I found one!

    GoDaddy now has a new cpanel named "Plesk".  In that panel you will find File Manager.  (I use the Windows version).  In the left panel of File Manager, you will see the root directory and all of its subfolders.  When you click on any of these folders, you will see their contents in the right panel.  You will also see a folder labelled "httpdocs".  This is the default folder that is set up in GoDaddy to be your "home" folder.  So, to fix your upload problems, do these steps:
    1.  Click on the httpdocs folder to see it open in the right panel.  In the toolbar above the right panel, you will see a green plus sign with the word "New".  Click on this drop-down menu.
    2.  Choose "directory"
    3.  Type in the name of one of the folders that your site will need, e.g. images, css, assets, scripts, etc.  This basically creates a subfolder within the httpdocs folder, right?  (There is a way to see how your Muse site sets up these folders prior to publish or upload.  You do this by choosing "Export as HTML" in the File menu of Muse, creating a folder on your desktop (or wherever) for the HTML export, then inspecting its contents after your save it.)
    4.  Continue to create all the subfolders within httpdocs that you will need.  Unfortunately, you have to do this one folder at a time.
    5.  After you have them set up, begin the process of uploading your site, like this:
    6.  In the File menu in Muse, you'll of course see "Upload to FTP Host ...".  Click on it.
    7.  A dialog box will open.  In the top text field, type in your website name ... you must use www. with your entry
    8.  In the "FTP Host" field, type in your domain name again like this ... "ftp.yourdomain.com" ... NO FORWARD SLASHES!!! (even if you find instructions to the contrary, like in Filezilla)  (Also, your domain might be a .org or .net, instead of a .com)
    9.  In the "Host directory" field, YOU MUST ENTER "httpdocs"!!!!  Despite what you learn, DO NOT LEAVE THIS FIELD BLANK!!!
    10.  Then enter your GoDaddy username and password.  (If you set up a different username for your GoDaddy account and your Plesk account, like I did, then use your Plesk username and password.)
    11.  Click on "Upload:  All Files"
    The next few steps are tedious, but necessary to keep your site organized on GoDaddy and to keep from confusing things.  You can probably get away with it, but, if your site doesn't load properly in a browser after doing the above steps, you'll need to click on each folder in the root directory that you copied as a subfolder in the "httpdocs" folder and delete the files.  For example, in the left panel of File Manager, you'll see the root directory.  Click on the "images" folder.  If there are any images that you need for your site in that folder, delete them.  Remember ... you've already copied them over to the images subfolder in httpdocs during your last upload described in the instructions above.  If you don't trust that you can delete them, click on the "httpdocs" folder, then click on the "images" folder and check the files.  Same files, right?  So, go ahead and delete the site files that you find in the appropriate folders in the root directory, making sure that you don't delete the ones that are NOT duplicated within the "httpdocs" folder.  Also remember that your .html pages will not require a subfolder to be set up in the "httpsdocs" folder.  They can just sit there, looking pretty.  But you will have to delete them from the root directory to keep things tidy.  Just click on the folder icon next to "root directory", and you'll see those html pages in the right panel.  Again, delete them. 
    REMEMBER:  To keep your Muse uploads to your GoDaddy site error free, you must ALWAYS make sure that "httpdocs" appears in the "Host directory" field in the "Upload to FTP Host ..." dialog box in Muse.  And all files and folders that your site needs MUST go in the "httpdocs" folder in the root directory of your site in GoDaddy's File Manager (now found in your Plesk Panel).
    I hope this wasn't too confusing.  If so, call GoDaddy.  I called them with this fix and they are using it in their phone support.

  • Need help fixing a file path problem

    Hi everyone,
    I'm using Dreamweaver 8 and for some reason my url/path name
    visually changed in my new web pages. Anything that has a path
    (i.e. image, a link etc) now has a prefix in this particular page.
    Ex. older files,
    images/flower.gif
    changed to
    ../../images/flower.gif.
    This is really annoying because when I try to copy fields
    from new web page to put in the older files, it includes the ../../
    which doesn’t exist in the older files. Even when I create a
    new page the prefix is present.
    How do I get it back to the old path?

  • Permanent fix to the bookmark & history system to avoid loosing the data

    Dear Firefox Experts.
    Does anyone know of a permanent fix to prevent the problem under firefox 3.6.xx to stop the bookmarks and history system from being lost and or corrupted all the time FORCING A MANUAL FIX.
    i constantly get the errors on this article since i think update 15 or 17 but even going back to these releases doesnt resolve this.
    i prefer the firefox 2.0.0.20 to 3.6.22 release to that of the much hyped 4,5,6,7 releases which i believe are just being thrown out there for the hell of it to catch up with internet explorers number scheme than actually being properly worked on like 3.6.xx.
    but going back to the issue its annoying when this error just pops up saying somethings using its database yet nothing else i have on my system that i can think of uses sqlite.
    i wish to be able to extract all my lost bookmarks from these file and or fix the old files to be able to restore them all into one un-corruptable database.
    why are these 2 functions/files linked together as they should be seperate...i think we need a little tool or plugin to recover the bookmarks and history data to a folder or urls and temp history.

    this is what you need to do to exclude everything apart from desktop.
    on time machine preferences, click on Options
    click plus sign, on the new window, click macintosh HD
    do a Control + A then deselect users then click okay
    go to options again, plus sign, go to users, control +A then deselect your user account
    go to options again, plus sign, go to your user account, control + A, deselect desktop
    start the back up.

    Hi there! My iPhone4s just dropped all of my contacts again this morning. They were there this morning and then they weren't. It did this to me monday as well. I turned it on and they were all gone. I used a backup to restore my contacts but it was a bit of a hassle and I'm not looking forward to doing it over and over again every time my iPhone decides to drop my contacts. Is there anything I can do to permanently fix this?

    Just over my Mac I think. My Mac, iTouch, and iPad 2 all still have all of the contacts and aren't having any problems.
    My mother suggested backing them up to the cloud so I'm performing a restore and will start backing the contacts up to the cloud to see if that will help

    Software ask for permission to install , and about 30 % in , my instinct was telling me , there is something not right . I stop installation . Delete everything , look for any
    trace in Spotlight , Library . Nothing could be find .
    Now , every time I open Safari , Firefox or Chrome , it will open in my home page , but when I start looking for something in steed of Google page , there is
    ''search.genieo.com'' page acting like a Google . I try again to get raid of this but I can not find solution .
    With more research , again using genieo.com search eng. there is lots of articles and warnings . From that I learn do not use uninstall software , because doing this will install more things where it come from.
    I do have AppleCare support but its to late to phone them , so maybe there some people with knowledge , how to get this of my computer

    Genieo definitely doesn't help with your router. It's just adware, and has no benefit to you at all. They scammed you so that they could display their ads on your computer.

    Ive got the same problem, just got my iphone unlocked, and they told me to sync it to itunes to get it permently unlocked, well everytime i plug my iphone in it says; it wont work as it needs up dating to 10.6.3, which i have already updated, but still doesnt work, so how can i get my phone unlocked?

    Pearson put out a tech note on this today - the new versions of Java are what's causing the problem. If you can use Time Machine to rollback java prior to a java 7 or 1.6.0_37 version that will get you going again. I've been searching for hours for a place to download the older version but it seems Apple's site and Oracle all only have the latest release. Still trying to see if I have a copy downloaded on a system that hasn;t been updated to copy off to a network drive or usb and install the older version on to systems.

    Teachers using PowerTeacher Gradebook should avoid taking this Java update to version 1.6.0_37 until notified that PowerTeacher Gradebook has been certified with this latest version of Java 1.6 for Mac OS X. PowerTeacher Gradebook will continue to work on Mac OS X workstations with Java version 1.6.0_35.
      Additional communication will be provided once a workaround is identified or an updated version of PowerTeacher Gradebook is available.

  • I too am experiencing the App Update indicating several updates are available...but none show and the Update All does not show either. I see several Apple products have this problem. Need a fix!

    Can anyone yet find a problem to the Apple Update Icon showing several updates are available...but...none show to actually update....just a blank screen. I have done several reset operations, including complete reset as recommended by others, but yet the problem remains. I need a fix to this so I can update the Apps indicated. Apple needs to publish this fix PRONTO.
