Need plug in for Safari

On webpages with videomedia states I need a MIMe type plug in. When going to website that has a download, the file downloads in a .bin format. No program on my iMac can open it. What do I do? Help.

To open the .bin file, download and install the free Stuffit Expander.

  • Missing extensions/plug-ins for Safari.

So, I recently had a virus/malware scare and to take care of it (which I did) I got rid of all extensions/plug ins for Safari.
I've currently only got Adobe Flash Player, and nothing else which is really hindering me. I've looked all over but I can't find out what the plug-ins or extensions I need are.
The most recent issue was something about Audio Midi when I couldn't play an audio thing online while looking for guitar chords stuff.
After that gave it a shot by asking Apple, but the closest Apple store is too far to be worth driving to and I can't afford $50 or however much it is to get the info/links/whatever I need.

There's no need to install Safari extensions if you don't wan to, however, there might want to check out the extensions gallery. You may find something useful.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Safari Extensions ...
To avoid malware, open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General
Make sure:  Mac App Store and identified developers  is selected.
If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.

Why do the instructions for disabling the Adobe Reader plug-in for Safari say that one needs to do so from OS X's root account even though one only needs to authenticate using their administrator password to do so?

  • [iPhone] How to make a plug-in for Safari?

    Hi!
Is there an ability to create a plug-in for Safari on iPhone, which could interact with user (have several buttons and could open webpages with Safari)?
If so, please, tell in a few words, how this plug-in can be implemented, which documents have useful information related to this, or even if there any source code examples with similar functionality?
    Thanks.

This is odd because in the settings for Safari on the iPhone is the ability to turn plugins on and off. If they didn't allow plugins to be written for Safari on the iPhone then why give the ability to turn plugins off?

  • HT201066 There is no QuickTime or any other plug-in for Safari anymore!!

I'm going back to a Windows PC if I can't listen to music on the Internet anymore.  I've looked everywhere for a decent plug-in to listen to MP3 files, or any music files, and it doesn't seem to exist.  Yet a Windows 8 machine comes with a plug-in to the Explorer from the factory.    QuickTime never sounded great to begin with, but to totally take any media away from the browser isn't a good idea.  Windows Media used to have a plug-in for Safari, and that cannot be found with an Internet search, either.

Of course there is no plug-in, I don't have one.  Plugin missing.  I'm trying to get one installed. I have iTunes, RealPlayer, and QuickTime that plays any music file I have on my hard drive.  None has an option to install the plug-in to the browser.

  • Windows Media Plug in for Safari?

I have been trying to play Windows Media Player clips inside certain webpages and nothing works unless I download them to the desktop and open it with VLC. I have Windows Media Player 9, but it's still not working properly in Safari. Do I need a specific plug in for Windows Media Player? If so, where do I get it. Thanks, -Brian

Try reinstalling the Media player. That usually installs the plugin it needs for safari.

  • Uninstalling plug-ins for Safari, but not Firefox

    Hi all,
I've been driving myself kind of nuts over this. Is there a way for a plug-in to be installed only for Firefox and not Safari? I like the built-in PDF reader in Safari, but I want the Schubert-IT PDF browser plug-in for Firefox. Both browsers share the "Internet Plug-Ins" folder, but it seems weird that we can't be selective in terms of which browser gets what.
If nothing else, is there maybe a Safari configuration file hiding somewhere that can be edited to exclude certain plug-ins?
    Thanks,
    Tim

The issue is that it's how you have it setup  for PDF files.
Right or control click a PDF file you have stored on the hard drive then click Get Info.
In the Get Info panel look for: Open with
All applications are set to open with a particular PDF viewer.

  • Missing Plug-ins for Safari?

    OK this is exhausting!
After downloading Adobe Reader I'm unable to open PDF's as it claims Plug-ins are missing?
Where do I find them, how is this resolved and is there an alternative to adobe?
why is there no customer service phone number??
    Please help

There are no plug-ins for iOS Safari. Are you actually using a Mac?
You want a phone number for support on FREE software? That's optimistic.

  • Inquisitor plug-in for Safari - Google bug

    Hi.
I've been using Inquisitor for Safari for a while now. Recently, out of the blue as far as I can tell, Safari stopped loading pages after running for a little while (the loading bar would fill a little and then nothing would happen, as if my internet connection was faulty - only it's not, since another browser worked just fine at the same time).
I tried the Empty Cache/Reset Safari, but it didn't help. Also, repairing disk permissions and trashing preferences did nothing.
I discovered that using Google as the search engine in Inquisitor is the cuase of the problem. I then switched to Yahoo and all seems well again.
Did anybody else experience this? Did you find a solution to it, other than switching to Yahoo? (I'd like to keep using Google)

Shame our over-enthusiastic mods edited out your first link.
Yes, though I did ask them to put it back, but no reply yet, if ever. I thought it was being considerate to not post a 295-character URL for it and use a tinyurl instead. Still, for those that want 3.0 (v47), you can open a download window and paste in this whole line (don't click on it):

  • Plug in for Safari?

    Hello
I know that configuring the pop-up blocker in Safari is not possible. I really enjoy using Safari as it seems to work better on my laptop then Firefox. However, I really need a way to allow pop-ups from specific sources.
My question is this: Does anyone know of an add-on or plug-in that would act as a pop-up blocker that I can configure? That way, I can turn off Safari's built in blocker, and use the third party add-on instead.
I would appreciate anything you can think of, or even just a lead on a possible plug-in/add on. Thanks so much!!

There might be something like what you're looking for that I'm not aware of. If so, I'm sure someone will post with that information.
In the meantime, though, does it help to know that the keyboard shortcut Command-K (The Apple key plus the K key) toggles the pop-up blocker on and off in Safari? I find it's easy to just hit Command-K when I'm on a site where I need to allow pop-ups, then hit Command-K again when I leave that site. (You can check whether the pop-up blocker is on or off by clicking on the Safari menu. A checkmark next to "Block Pop-Up Windows" means the block is active; no checkmark means pop-ups are currently allowed.)
I know it's not a perfect solution. It might help until you find something more sophisticated, though.

  • Need plug-in for C-SPAN video

This is a question from my mom. Recently she got an error message from C-SPAN, saying that she can't watch a live video streamed from the website for this kind of plug-in: MIME type "application/X-MS-WMP." Do you know why or how we got in and where can we fix it by installing this plug-in to make her happy. Any ideas would help?

Are you really still on 10.4.4? You should update to 10.4.11. Then:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, 3.1, 3.1.1, QT 7.3, 7.4.x and 7.5 and OS 10.4.11.
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.11 and have Quicktime 7.4 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
RealPlayer 11 (which is no longer in beta) for Mac from:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15540
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2
and then the latest version obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
    and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11, that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates up to and including 2008-004. (N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
And now there is an additional kid on the block: SilverLight. Microsoft has created their own version of what a replacement for Flash should be. You can read more about it here:
    http://silverlight.net/
So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards):

  • Plug-Ins for Safari and Firefox

I'm a new MAC owner (as of last week as a matter of fact) so bear with me.......
I had to download Firefox since I got the message that Safari didn't support the new Yahoo Mail Beta.
Then I decided to check out my MACBook Pro's video capabilities by going to the CBS web page to watch The Unit (go to http://www.cbs.com/ and click 'Full Episodes'.....)
    I got the following error:
The page “CBS.com - Innertube” has content of MIME type “audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.
Can anyone help me find the appropriate plug-in? What additional plug-ins should I install while I'm at it (Active-X, Java, etc.)?
BTW, I get an error with Firefox as well telling me that additional plug-ins are required, but the automatic (Firefox) search tells me that no suitable plug-ins were found.
Mac Book Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Wow, I had no idea it would be that simple.
Normally with my PC, if an update was needed the error message would instruct to download the newest version of Flash, Real, etc.
I figured with the cryptic error message I got from Firefox and Safari that I needed some 'plug-in.'
    Thanks! Problem solved......
