Need plug in TV speakers

I have a Dynex 26 inch LCD HD tv with HD cable box and DVD hooked up. Have headphone jack on side of tv.   I am hearing impaired and also use a wireless headset to listen to the tv.  The speakers in the Dynex are not that great and if I want to listen to the tv without the headset I have to turn volume way up (almost to the max)- the audio is still not that great for me.  Are there any "plug in" speakers out there that would amplify the tv that will also plug into the headphone jack?  I tried a two speaker set with receiver as a test drive but the sound only came out as a whisper with the speakers turned up full volume.  Thiis Dynex replaced a 20-year old Magnavox with mono speakers and I could hear that tv just fine even without headset.

appletv play audio out of optical out of hdmi and the old alu one play out the RCA too
the typical the white and red plug ins would be RCA if you have a atv2 (the black one) you cant use
RCA as that is analog and optical and hdmi are digital
you can get converters but some would be pricy and could cause delay between image and pictures for video

It's been a while since my basic EE and analog design classes where we went over this stuff, and I don't remember all the technical terms, but....
Really - I've never heard of any kind of line-level input having a problem being connected to a headphone jack. Even one with a fairly low output impedance. Any kind of line-level input should be relatively high impedance to maximize voltage transfer and prevent overloading of the output driver. I thought headphone outputs were typically regulated for a fairly low maximum voltage. Of course the ideal case for an ideal voltage buffer is a near zero output impedance and a near infinite input impedance. I seem to recall that my old receiver with preamp outputs had line-level input impedance of maybe 10K-ohm and output impedance of about 300 ohm.
I saw an Apple developer note and apparently the MacBook output jack has an impedance less than 24 ohms. I've checked out a few specs for mixer inputs, and line input impedance seems to vary from anywhere from 1K-ohm to up to 20K-ohm. I wouldn't see a problem. The incoming current will be regulated by the higher input impedance.
I always thought the biggest problem was with too low a device input impedance from headphones or speakers overloading the driver. In that case I've heard either the output device or the amp clip.

  • Bad clicking popping sound when macbook plugged into external speakers

I have a black MacBook Core Duo, a white Macbook Core 2 Duo, and a Macbook Pro Core Duo that are suddenly ALL exhibiting horrible behavior when plugged into external speakers using the 1/8th inch headphone output converted to RCA to connect to the speakers.
I have always known that sometime in the last year or 2, one of the OS updates introduced a popping noise when the audio system has been idle and then suddenly fires a sound again after being quiet for a while.
But now all 3 of these machines, all running 10.6.7 with all current available software updates are exhibiting a clicking / popping /crackling sound almost CONSTANTLY when hooked up to the same set of speakers I've had for years. I tested with other speakers just to make sure the noise is still there.
Every time someone goes on or offline in my ichat buddy list, the crackling noise that accompanies the typical buddy available/unavailable sound is extremely irritating.
Every time I hit the volume up or down button I hear the awful noise alone with the volume feedback sound. If I keep hitting volume up or down FAST repeatedly, the sound goes away. But the moment I stop doing anything for even 1-2 seconds, and then touch the volume up/down buttons again, the cracking sound returns.
I have no idea what software update introduced this problem or what the heck is going on. I have booted these machines from external drives with a fresh install of 10.6.7. I've tried 10.5.8. Nothing works.
It's like some kind of firmware has permanently screwed up the 1/8th inch output on all of these machines when hooked up to external speakers. And these are all completely different model laptops
I do not hear the noise through these laptops' internal speakers, or if I plug headphones directly into their headphone jacks.
I have had to install an M-Audio USB Micro onto my main laptop to use it's 1/8th inch stereo out to connect to my speakers in order to eliminate this horrible noise. But this should NOT be necessary and I am not satisfied with this fix as a permanent solution.
I'm astonished to find this problem on ALL THREE of these different laptops suddenly.
The Anti Pop program did not alleviate the problem. Please help. Apple please issue software fixes to get rid of these problems once and for all.

  • Plug and play speakers not working properly after upgrading to Windows 8.1

After upgrading to Windows 8.1, my plug and play speakers do not work properly.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled them, and restarted.  When I try to play music, nothing comes out.  If I turn them off and back on, music will play for approximately 30 seconds, only from one speaker, then it turns off and fades to no sound.  They worked fine until I upgraded to Windows 8.1.  The manufacturer has not been able to successfully assist me.  Has anyone else reported a similar issue after upgrading OS software?  Any suggestions?  These are fairly new speakers, less than 2 years old, and not used very much.  I do have them installed via a K-V switch, and all other devices linked to the K-V switch are functioning properly (monitor and wireless keyboard).  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I bought a mic for my ipod touch 2nd gen and the mic works yet when its plugged in the speakers dont work, meaning i cant hear, so skype and other similar apps are un-useable, is there a way in which the mic and speakers will both work together?

Looking at the details for this mic, it appears that the app has to have the option to use the internal specak when a mic is plugged into the headphone jack. Specifically:
NOTE: When MityMic is plugged into your iPod/iPhone you won’t be able to use the onboard speaker for sound output. You must remove the MityMic then play back your recordings. (The Skype app has an option to enable the onboard speaker even when the mic is plugged in, so you could use MityMic for placing Skype calls. However most other apps do not have this function.)

I got a pair of speakers on the side of the road marked free.

after taking the back off of one and looking at the speakers they googling them i came to the conculsion they are extreamly old
    each box has teh following
    foster - 8inch
    C200K05-1202
    8 omh MUS 10w
    foster - 3inch
    C080D01-1002

pluging them into my tv's audio out they do not work
pluging them into my logitech x540 (suroundsound speaker system) on my computer they do give sound although not very good quality
I am assuming like car speakers they need an amp or something to work on my tv?

If your tv has Audio out as in Speaker connections in the back of the TV then they should work if you connect them. You probably have to switch the setting on the TV for external speakers.   They were probably marked Free because they don't work to well  if at all and with an RMS of 3 and 10w respectfully I wouldn't expect to much out of them.  Any normal receiver will blow them right up as the amount of distortion you would get (unless buying a high end receiver) to get any real sound out of them would be above the 3 watts.

Try removing the corrupted Reader installation using http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Then download the installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ and install it from scratch.

  • Headphones Not Recognized When Plugged in, Internal Speakers Won't Mute

Hi all, I've scoured these message boards looking for a solution to this problem, but couldn't find a solution that worked.  Hopefully someone can!
    Toshiba Satellite C655-S5312
Edition: Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1
    Processor: Intel(R) Pentium (R) CPU B950@ 2.10GHZ
    Installed Memory: 4.00 GB
    System Type: 64-bit Operating System
The problem I'm having is that my computer won't recognize my headphones or any other external audio device when I plug them in. The internal speakers continue to play no matter what. I used the jack fine one night and the next morning it wasn't working. I've checked these external devices with other computers and they work fine.  My computer is just over a year old and no longer under warranty, but I can't imagine it being a hardware issue after such a short time of use.    I had this problem before right after I got my computer back from a repair shop.  Turns out the guy didn't reinstall my drivers.  Now, when I tried to follow those same steps, I'm getting nowhere.  I can say that I noticed that the available drivers on the Toshiba website have changed.  Before it was RealTek and now, after updates, it' was SmartAudioHD and now High Definition Audio Device.  I don't know if that bears any significance, but I thought I'd include that anyway.  I've tried uninstalling the driver, but everytime I restart my computer it's there under Audio Device Manager.  Tech Support said that my comp automatically adds the driver so I'll never really get rid of it.  Does that make sense?
    Troubleshooting steps so far:
1.) Uninstall and reinstall drivers (restarted my computer after)
2.)  Control Panel--->  Device Manager---> Sound, Video Games and Game Controllers---> High Definition Audio Device (was SmartAudio before updating driver during troubleshooting)---->right click and "Enable" is checked
3.)  Control Panel---> Sound---> Playback Tab (in Sound Dialog Box)---> Speakers (HDAD) green check mark but Headphones (HDAD) red downward arrow and "Not Plugged In" (Can enable or test because it's not detected)
Am I missing a driver?  Am I missing a vital step?  Please someone help me!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you are using Windows 7, go into control panel click on sounds and make headphones default. When you are not using your headphones you will have to do this procedure again to restore speakers on the laptop or computer. I am using Microsoft Gaming Headphones and had to do this because my toshiba laptop did not recognize it was plugged into the USB port. I have no problems with the plain speaker headphones only the ones that plug into the usb port.

  • What do I need to attach external speakers?

I have a 3 year old macbook 2 GHz that I wish to attach some old but powerful wharfdale speakers to. I realize I need to buy a receiver box/amp of some description in order to do so. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    KC

You need a way to get your audio to whatever preamp you're using. Theoretically you could send it straight to the amp using your MacBook for volume control, but that has the potential to blow the speakers if something happens like an inadvertent spike in the output level. You'll probably need a mini-jack to RCA cable. I got one in my old iPod value package (also had a dock, FW cable, and wall power adapter). You might also be able to use something like a USB audio device, such as a Griffin iMic with a standard RCA cable.
This is going to get awfully expensive unless you're willing to go with a relatively inexpensive receiver or integrated amp. Something that could do justice to your speakers doesn't have to be that expensive. Maybe even something like a small shelf system would work.

  • Online Videos that need plug-ins of a specific MIME type

Hello. I'm trying to see some videos and dvd's on the internet but quicktime sends me a message that I need a special plug-in like MIME “application/x-oleobject” or MIME “application/x-mplayer2”. Were can I download this??? Can anyone help?
    Thank you

I'm trying to see some videos and dvd's
QT is not a DVD or VIDEO_TS folder player. Use the Apple DVD Player application instead. Most such content is encoded as multiplexed ('muxed") MPEG-2 video with either AC3 or PCM audio. While you could purchase the QT MPEG-2 Player Component ($19.99) and view the video content in the QT Player, it will not play the audio. An alternative to using the DVD player, would be to use the free VLC multimedia player. It would also likely be compatible with most common non-QT formats you may download from the Internet. Alternatively, you could install the Perian component package and/or the Flip4Mac component for viewing various PC/Windows (non-DVD/VIDEO_TS) commonly created files. Otherwise, you have to examine each movie's content and then download the specific required codec which may or may not be available for use on the Mac. (I.e., some codecs are so old that they have never been converted for use in OS X or transcoded for use on Intel Mac systems.)

  • Need plug-in for C-SPAN video

This is a question from my mom. Recently she got an error message from C-SPAN, saying that she can't watch a live video streamed from the website for this kind of plug-in: MIME type "application/X-MS-WMP." Do you know why or how we got in and where can we fix it by installing this plug-in to make her happy. Any ideas would help?

Are you really still on 10.4.4? You should update to 10.4.11. Then:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, 3.1, 3.1.1, QT 7.3, 7.4.x and 7.5 and OS 10.4.11.
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.11 and have Quicktime 7.4 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
RealPlayer 11 (which is no longer in beta) for Mac from:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15540
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2
and then the latest version obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
    and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11, that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates up to and including 2008-004. (N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
And now there is an additional kid on the block: SilverLight. Microsoft has created their own version of what a replacement for Flash should be. You can read more about it here:
    http://silverlight.net/
So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards):
    http://silverlight.net/GetStarted/
