Need pointers for rotoscoping hi def video

I have a mts file hi def video clip (1080i) from a canon vixia hf g10 that needs rotoscoping:
a group of dancers are on stage and a shoe has fallen off one of them onto the stage and I need to paint it out
there are about 30 seconds of video that needs to be fixed
the camera is on a tripod but pans around
Should I rotoscope this in photoshop or after effects?
I tried to do it in photoshop and have addition questions:
(1) what format should I export the video clip to? I was able to do it using quicktime file and jpeg2000 codec, but that's just a random pick. What's the best choice if I want a lossless compression?
(2) when I'm inside photoshop, I can clone out the shoe easily. Then, I want to copy that repaired area and paste it into the subsequent frames. The problem is the left and right arrow keys no longer nudges. They become go to previous and next frame, so it is very difficult to use the mouse to move the paste area a little bit.
I have not tried using AE because I've not rotoscoped in AE before. Does it have a clone stamp tool?
I know it has motion tracking which could possibly follow the shoe and cover it with a repaired image. Is there a tutorial on how to erase object that is stationery (but the camera is panning)?

Took about 10 seconds using Google.

Also, I wanted to check if there is publicly available or for purchase IOS code librabry for XMPP/Jingle that can be leveraged to build out the voip capability.

Sure! There is an AS3 branch in the zxing library. This should get you started (its for Androdi but should work for IOS too):

  • Newbie Mac user needs help for mac to tv video/audio connection.

Alright so I scrolled through the forum posts of lots of people with specific problems on connecting to their tvs, but I have a far more general problem.
I really have no idea what cable(s) I need to in order to watch items playing on my laptop on my tv. It is an older tv, so I don't have HDMI connectivity, so right now my choices are basic 3 component or the 5 input color stream component.
So what cable(s) do I need to do this? A link to the item(s) in question in the apple store would be very helpful.
    Thanks so much!

I just purchased Time Capsule today.  I ONLY want to use it as an external drive.  I do not need it for Time Machine. I need to free up room on my computer. As of now, I can't even load updates. I can see the TC in my finder, but when I click on a file or video to drag and drop, I get message that TC can't be modified. Help please!

I agree with Kappy.. passing files and especially via wireless is slow as slow.
Just need to be sure your TC is the new AC model??
And the OS on the computer is Lion?
Have you completed the setup of the TC via the utility? You do still need to get internet via the TC so it has to be plugged into the main router..
Give us the full picture of the network.
Then we can help you get into it.. whether you should put your files on it is another question.

In your More System Details, there is a mystery line that just says "Flash" while the official line says "Shockwave Flash". Could you use by test page to generate a list of the full information for each plugin so it's easier to figure out which one is the stranger?

Scroll down a bit to the plugin list. It's the "Description" line that will say just "Flash". What is the name of the plugin?

  • Need recommendation for training video software and Flash

Can the experts here please recommend some product to record a computer screen session that then imports well into Flash?
I want to build training videos that record the screen session and my voice and am looking for a software product that can do this.
    Any recommendations?
    Thanks,
    Jay

Thanks for the link but this did not meet our requirement and I hope that
some expert here in this forum can help. There are hundreds of
solutions out there but most are just screen session recorders without voice.
A couple have a feature to add voice seperately.  What we need is similar to
an actual video recording including voice where both go hand in hand with any
    seprate integration.
A video camera would not be practical, but certainly there must be some software
that would provide similar recording, both the screen session and sound?
This woule be a recording of the screen session with a person speaking into a microphone.
    Any recommendations?
    Thanks again,

  • Ralphie, nooo.. IMovie HD6 which camera best for rotoscoping?

Alright.. I'll approach this from a simpler angle.. I use Adobe products and IMovie for my animations.. i also use IMovie to edit video and then break that video down into per second frames for rotoscoping.. now this was awhile ago when it was a OS 10.1 world and all I had was Imovie 1. I've grown up some since then and now need better resolution. I've learned HD is not well excepted by the HD6 and to stick to DV mini tapes. Which is fine by me. In the past I used a panasonic for my simple needs. i wasn't concerned with high definition, but i am now.
Basically what I need is this..
A miniDV tape camcorder with extremely high resolution.. I ABSOLUTELY need mic jacks (with possible audio controls??) because all camcorder built in mics Suck.. and I need that firewire connectivity.
I've looked at a ton of cameras and I would love certain ones because of the high definition but I can't because of the hard drive crap.. and of course 24p would be nice for me because it would make animating a little simpler and take some work off of me.. does anyone have any camera suggestions?.. the canon HV20 looks nice(i think its close to 1080i?) and so does the Panasonic AGDVX100B(which doenst give a resolution).. thats about my price range.. I don't particularly want to go too much over the $2k mark.

24p (.."progressive" ..meaning that the video frames are complete frames full of video, instead of being two fields which each contain only half the data..) is the frame rate used by movie cameras which use film.
Some video cameras can shoot at that rate - as you've found - but they still record the data onto tape at 30fps (US style) or 25fps (European frame rate).*
The only reason for video shooters to use 24p is if you intend to transfer your video onto film to show in a cinema. Otherwise, there's no point in shooting at 24p. Camera manufacturers push it as being a way to get "the film look" (..so that your video looks more like film..) but 25p or 30p would deliver the same thing on a video/TV screen.
So forget 24p. It's uneditable in iMovie, and it achieves nothing.
The 'p' format, though (..separate frames one after the other, instead of a pair of fields..) might possibly be handy for you, as each frame has full, complete video resolution, unlike normal camcorder 'interlaced' video.
"..he said that the human eye sees at 24 frames per second or equivalent.. so do i need a camera that shoots at 30 fps?.." ..all stuff and nonsense, I'm afraid. Cinema films are projected at 24 frames per second, but humans can see the flicker at 24fps, so each frame is shown twice - the projector shutter opens and closes on each single frame twice as the film moves through the projector at 24fps, with each static frame being revealed and concealed twice while it's temporarily stationary in the film gate.
What you're looking for is a high-resolution camera - preferably with 3 CCDs, so that you get a very sharp, clear image - and the hi-def XH-A1 Canon which you mention is a bit over the top for what you need, but it will give a very good image, and offers 'p' shooting. (Normally at 30fps, which is perfectly good for what you want ..technically it's 29.97 fps, but it's called 30fps.)
The best thing about the Canon - if you really want your video to look like film, and rather less like video - is that the A1 provides all sorts or adjustments such as "black stretch" and "knee adjustment" which make the video image look more like richly-toned film, rather than bland video.
But pretty much any hi-def camcorder used in standard-definition mode will give you the excellent resolution on miniDV tape which you're looking for.
*P.S: Several Sony camcorders purport to shoot 24p or 25p video, but they actually record onto tape a peculiar sequence of video frames which imitate regular 24p, but consist of recordings at 60 fields per second, with some of the fields dropped or doubled to make an apparent 24p or 25p fps. Avoid this "simulated" 24/25p. The Canons do appear to shoot proper 24/25p ..but forget 24p anyway; that's only needed by aspiring independent film makers who can't afford film, so they shoot on video and have that transferred onto film for eventual cinema distribution.

  • Re: high def video and software

I purchased a Sony High Def Video Camcorder.
    It is the SR1.
How soon will MAC offer software (e.g. final cut or imovie)
that will allow me to edit the high definition video?
I have heard that Blackmagic offers a card that allows you to run the video into the computer - will I need this card to run the video into imovie or final cut express?
    Thanks,
    Martin
PS Are there other HDMI cards for mac that are cheaper than $300 and is there any MAC editing software for HIGH DEF already out there?

    Welcome to the forums.
FCP doesn't support the format now, and there is no word when support will occur.
If the camera has an HDMI interface, then the Black-Magic Intensity card is the one for you. And $300 is as cheap as it gets. Unfortunately I think it only works with FCP, and not iMovie. iMovie HD can only capture via firewire, and it doesn't support that format. FCP and that card (need a MacPro or Quad to use that card) are the only options at this time, and it captures footage as a workable format.

  • How to burn hi-def video to DVD with CS3?

i'm using CS3 and for the first time
I'm doing a Hi-Def video project.  But when i copy
the sequence, or export a movie, to my DVD burner, i have quite a bit of loss in video quality.
Someone has told me that i need to get a newer DVD burner (mine is 3-yrs old), since the older ones don't handle Hi-Def properly.  Does anyone know about this?

The DVD specification is for a very specific video format, and that video format is not high-definition.
The high-definition successors to the DVD format were Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD. Blu-ray seems to have won that format war.
Here's a page about exporting to Blu-ray Disc format.

  • Uncompressed Hi Def Video?

    Hi guys,
We are intending to capture uncompressed Hi Def Video via SDI into a Quad PowerPC G5(woodcrest), with 8 gigs of RAM. We have the a 1.5 year old Xserve RAID, 2.73Tb, and were looking to capture with the Blackmagic HD Extreme Card.
Do you guys foresee any problems/dropped frames/crashes/etc?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
    Joe

Make certain you do EVERYTHING what Apple recommends:
    Qlogic Fibre Channel Switch
Any Gigabit switch just for the metadata network
Apple Fibre Channel cards - dual fibre channel attached
Latest and greatest firmware on all Apple Xserver RAID's
    Latest Xsan client
    Latest supported OS
RAID 5 (this is recommended by Apple as the algorithm has been optimized for it on the Xserve RAID's)
You will need a minimum of 2 Xserve RAID's (2 for the Data LUN and 1 for the Metadata LUN). Remember each side of the Xserve RAID or each RAID Controller can comfortably support 80MB/s (2 LUN's using all drives or all drives minus one hot spare x 80MB/s = 160MB/s). Uncompressed 720p HD is 110MB/s. You also have to turn off some settings on the Xserve RAID's to not effect the Xsan. You have to turn caching on one of the settings and disable the notifications of when a hard drive goes online or offline. Read the manual, it'll help a lot.
