  • Need expert cable modem airport extreme advice

I have been on hold with Comcast for an hour and so far no end in site. So I thought maybe someone here might be able to help me.
Because of Comcast's recent decision to cap bandwidth to 250GB a month I moved up to their Business Class high speed internet service that have NO bandwidth cap. I also get 16MB Down and 2MB Up for just $20 a month more, but the no limit on bandwidth sold me.
Anyway, they installed the new modem today while I was away, and when I returned home I saw that my Airport Utility was reporting a "Double NAT" error. Airport recommended changing the unit to "Bridge mode" (I also have two other base stations in the house), which corrected the Amber light, Double NAT error, but while I can connect to the net I am getting slower speeds.
Speakeasy.net is showing me that IF I use Bridge Mode I will average 8-10MB Down, and 1-1.5MB Up, but if I allow the Double NAT error by using "sharing a single IP" address I get an average of 15-20MB Down and 2-2.5MB Up.
Bridge Mode doesn't affect the other two units on my network, and while 8-10MB Down is still quite fast, the 15-20MB is a quite a bit faster.
So my question is this: Does the Business Class modem serve its own DHCP/NAT and if I set my Airport to "Share a single IP" it is redundant? Are both the cable modem and the Airport attempting to use DHCP/NAT and that is what causes the error? Lastly, is there a real reason for using Bridge Mode instead of "share a single IP", with respect to security, stability, or anything else? Does it really matter which one I use as long as I am able to use the net on my computers?
Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide. And yes, I am STILL on hold

  • Longer power cord for airport extreme

I am needing a longer power cord cord for my new airport extreme base station Model ME918LL/A.  It's the cube one with the internal power supply.  It only comes with a six foot cord and I need at least 12 feet to place it in the optimal place in our office.  In suggestions where I can find a longer cord.  Amazon and tiger direct sale cords that look similar, but I want to be careful and fry it the device.  Has anyone else had a similar problem and where did you find a longer cord?

You  may have to reconsider the diameter of holes through which
the wire has to pass, or discover an alternative power source at
a nearer distance to the AirPort Extreme (with backup power &
perhaps a backup battery type of power unit w/ power filter.)
Part of the problem with distance and electrical signal over wire
is that a larger capacity wire is needed due to loss over distance.
The greater the distance, and the larger the gauge is needed.
A lower-than-specification power at the unit likely would result
    from too-long a power lead.
My AirPort units (Extreme and Express, in use) are protected by
a battery-backup APC or other automatic device that switches to
its own battery and takes the unit offline when power it too high
or when it is too low. And not one of the cheaper backup units.
So the issue isn't just a long cord, but one of significant better
quality than just a long cord of the same external diameter case
or layer of insulation over whatever gauge lies beneath.
That's a reason why the wire isn't longer; it'd also have to be larger
in wire gauge capacity and heavier. Then other costs would add up.
You may be able to ask a professional appliance company who could
look over the AirPort Extreme power cord and match the small end
where the unit plugs in, with one of a higher gauge wire (larger wire
so that's a smaller number wire for larger size/gauge; for the distance.
However you do it, have fun...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Power Supply for Airport Extreme

    Hi
Does anyone know where I can get a new power supply for my airport extreme in the UK? Mine has died, and I don't really want to buy a whole new base station just because of the external supply. (I know the actual unit is working through plugging in a power supply from my other base station)
I tried Apple, who weren't really any help.
    Thanks in advance!
    Tom.

    Tom welcome to the discussions.
I would probably call the Apple number.
    1-800-MY APPLE
I am sure that they can point you in the right direction.
I am a little shocked that one of the Apple Retail stores can't offer you a Power Supply.
If all else fails, it sounds like you have tried an alternitve, if it works use it, until you can get a replacment.

  • Changing power output for Airport Extreme Card

How do you change the power output for the Airport Extreme Card? Is there a program that I can download to change airport's settings or the Airport Extreme Card's settings?
i.e. If the default power output for the Airport Extreme Card is 18mW, I would like to increase it to 25mW.

There is no way for a user to control the power output of the AirPort Extreme card.
Furthermore if the card was manufactured to output 18mW there is no magical way to increase it's physical ability so it can output more power.

  • Power Injector for Airport Extreme (Generation 5)

    Hello.
Is there any support for using Power Injector (PoE) instead of the supplied power apdater to run Airport Extreme.
    Cheers
    Mr Apro

Sorry, but Power over Ethernet is not supported on the AirPort Extreme.

  • Missing power cord for Airport Extreme model 1034 (2003)

I found my old Airport extreme, the white dome type model 1034 (2003). I replaced it with a time machine a few years ago. Now I would like to use it to extend my network into my studio but I can't find the power cord. Can I use a universal adapter input 5.1volts 2.4A? If not, where can I get a new power cord?

Seems like Apple Support would be a good place to start. If Apple does not have the item, I doubt that anyone else will either.

  • Do I need to connect the AirPort Extreme with a ethnet cable

Do I need to connect the AirPort Extreme with a ethnet cable

    Hi Tracy,
I have an airport express connected by ethernet cable to a Netgear modem which is connected to a phone socket. Those devices stay at one end of the house. I can use my MacBook Pro to connect to the internet (by Wi-Fi, no cables) anywhere else in the house.  I hope this helps.

  • What hardware do i need for airport extreme

I have a macbook pro (with intel) and an iMac (with intel); i just ordered an airport extreme base-station. I currently have the old airport which has been working fine but i thought i'd upgrade to something faster. Do i also need to buy an airport extreme card for my computers in order to be able to use the new airport extreme base station? Can i simply download the software that apple is selling for 1.99 to upgrade the capacity my computers already have? I can't find the answer to this anywhere so i'd appreciate some assistance.

You can't upgrade older Macs (including the older Core Duo Intel Macs) though these will still work with the new Airport Extreme just not at n speeds.
The n enabler software for Core 2 Duo Macs does not need to be purchased/downloaded as it comes free with the new Airport Extreme base station.
The Macs which can use the n enabler software are listed on this page.
    http://www.apple.com/wireless/80211/
    Does my Mac support 802.11n?
These Mac computers support 802.11n in the new AirPort Extreme Base Station using the included enabler software:
iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo (except 17-inch, 1.83GHz iMac)
MacBook with Intel Core 2 Duo
MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo
Mac Pro with AirPort Extreme card option

All you need is a plug adaptor, if required. Apple sells an adapter kit:

  • Need power schematics for a 20" cinema display a1038 (four pronged cord)

need power schematics for a 20" cinema display a1038
missing the power adapter for the cinema display, need to know what the leads are for the power cord.
There is a Edison power cord that plugs into a little square box, then a 4 pronged cord plugs into that box.
I have a 24 volt power supply with the same amps, and want to hook it up to the 4 pronged plug since I don't have the little power supply box. I don't know what each lead is.
The easy answer is to buy the power supply. I bought the cinema display cheap and want to see if its worth buying the little box power supply that costs around 70$ on e-bay. If it works with the 24 volt power supply Ill go ahead and buy the little box.

    Hi
If the monitor is a clear acrylic model with three feet (which it seems to be), and your computer is an original AGP Graphics/Sawtooth model, you'll need a DVI to ADC adapter.
You can identify your exact computer model from the following link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58418
The ADC connector, which the older 20" Cinema Display uses, wasn't introduced until the later Gigabit Ethernet models. Unfortunately a newer graphics card with an ADC port won't work either, as the Sawtooth lacks an extra connector on the logic board required to power the monitor through the ADC cable.
DVI to ADC adapters are fairly expensive as they include an integral power supply to drive the monitor. It may also be worth checking your graphics card supports the resolution of the 20" display (1680 by 1050). In the worst case you may need a new graphics card (with a DVI port) and the adapter.

  • Is the maximum number of users for Airport Extreme per device, i.e. 2 AEBS = 100 users, one AEBS extending the other on the same wireless network?

Is the maximum number of users for Airport Extreme per device, i.e. 2 AEBS = 100 users, one AEBS extending the other on the same wireless network?

50 users per device, assuming that the "main" router is setup to deliver an adequate number of network IP addresses for all devices.
2 AEBS = 100 users, but that is really more of a theoretical max.
If you really need 100 connections, it would be much better to use 3 AEBS to spread things out.

  • Does anybody knows where can i buy a replacement AC power cable for my cinema display 27"?

Does anybody knows where can i buy a replacement AC power cable for my cinema display 27"?

It may not be the same molded plug but I would think any normal 3-prong computer power cable should work.
    How about this one?
922-6529 Power Cord - Apple Cinema Display
I've always had the theory that if you put two computer power cords in a drawer they will breed and you'll end up with a lot more!   My parts drawer is always full of them.  They like to knot up by themselves as well!  Maybe that's how they breed.
