That would tend to indicate a permissions issues on the computer.
Running an outdated version of iTunes is of absolutely no benefit.
All iDevices work with the current version of iTunes.

  • Itunes will not open on macbook.  says requires quicktime 7.5.5 or later.

Have a macbook and when I try to open itunes it says that itunes requires quicktime 7.5.5 or later.  I try to download quicktime as i have 7.5 and it tells me to manage software through the software update function.  The software update function will not find an update for quicktime.  Help!  Not sure how to get itunes set up

    Hi there,
I have also just updated my computer via the system updates. I am running OS Snow Leopard 10.5.8, and my iTunes won't open and then prompts me for a Quicktime update 7.5.5.
Now, I have gone through the Apple support and downloaded the Quicktime update 7.5.5 for OS 10.5 or later (or whatever it was - the second from the top?). Anyways, it says it installed properly and that I need to restart my laptop. Once I have restarted, iTunes still will not open and it still says I need to update Quicktime.
I have tried a few other solutions and nothing seems to work. Do you have any further suggestions on what I have to do to make this work? I'd really not like to have to use another media player to play music. And I don't really want to have to go out and buy a new laptop.. Although I'm starting to get really frustrated with the apparent lack of support for older versions.
Any thing you can suggest will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

=New version of Quicktime installed but application reports it needs to have that version installed=
Open Application > Utilities > System Profiler and check the Quicktime version in Frameworks vs. the version in Applications.  I recently helped where the person had re-installed their operating system.  It had kept the newer Player application but had reverted to an earlier version of the underlying support framework that works with many applications.  Re-installing Quicktime 7.7 took care of the problem.

  • Itunes 7 - win xp pro will not install "iTunes needs quicktime" error

iTunes 7 will not complete the install - it says the old version of iTunes could not be uninstalled and then says "iTunes needs quicktime". I tried installing quicktime alone and it also won't install saying it cannot remove the old version. Tried a manual uninstall and I get the same error.

A tip posted by b noir on the following link solved my problem. I just downloaded "Windows Installer CleanUp Utility" from Microsoft, removed my existing version of Qiucktime. Restarted my computer then started fresh with Itune 7 installation. No more problems.

  • ITunes will not open, requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later.

I've just reset my iMac and reinstalled Leopard but when I try to open iTunes I get this error message; iTunes requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later. I've downloaded version 7.7 but still get the same message. I've read on here to download an earlier version of iTunes and then to update that but I can't find an earlier version from anywhere.
Any help would be very much appreciated..

Hi Dave. Many thanks for your response. I uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime and then reinstalled them and now I can open iTunes. I now have another problem. The music that is on my iPhone that was imported from my iTunes prior to resetting my Mac seems to be unavailable for me to play. It doesn't show up on my iPhone when it's not connected. But when I connect it to my Mac all the songs show up under the music tab of my iPhone but they are all light grey and when I click one an exclamation mark appears next to it. I've tried authorizing my account but that doesn't do anything.
If you have any idea what the problem could be I would really gratefull.

  • Itunes is saying i need quicktime that is already installed

Can someone help??? I am not very technical...safari went missing from my dock today and I did everything to get it back but couldn't...so I reinstalled the disks that came with the mac and got safari back but now my itunes wont open and it says I need quicktime that I know came installed and is showing in my dock.

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

  • I try to open itunes and it tells me i need Quicktime 7.5.5 and i can't find it.

So I did a fresh install of OSX on my late 2007 macbook and after doing all the updates through software I get an error when I attempt to open iTunes. I get an error that says I need Quicktime 7.5.5 but I cannot find this update through the site and the computer will not find it when I have ti do an autocheck for software update.

I have OS X 10.5 (Leopard) which I just did a fresh factory reset on my 2007 Mac Mini.  I did a Software Update check and it showed a Combined Update for 10.5 with an enormous download size of about 800 MB.  It also showed a separate iTunes update of about 100 MB, so I just downloaded the iTunes one for now.
Unfortunately, I received the same message about needing Quicktime 7.5.5 with a URL link that did not provide any update, but rather just the Quicktime features.
Cutting a long story short, I found (and am installing) this link, which appears to address any issues specifically for OS X 10.5 (Leopard) users.

What version of iTunes do you have installed? If you are trying to update to iOS 6 you need iTunes 10.7 or later.
