Need Recomendation For Good Audio INterface

Hello All!
I recently got a macbook for christmas along with the GuitarBox from M-Audio.
I am wanting to record more than just two input tracks...possibly 8 for a live band.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good audio interface that works well with Garageband?
Again..I think I would want to have 4-8 simultaneous tracks being recorded. Im really concerned with recording a drum set.
Thanks

  • Can anyone recomend a good audio interface for 2011 PowerBook running Lion?

I heard Motu makes good interfaces. I like the Avid Mbox because of Protools Le.
My needs are to get a stereo keyboard in , a guitar. In , and a mike in. Don't need simultanious recording.Just stero inputs. Only 2 at that.
    Thanks-- Kevin

    Hi.
I've been using MOTU hardware and software for years.  They seem to keep their drivers updated and I've never had a problem with any of their gear as I've upgraded my OS's as often as they've been introduced.

  • Need advice on an Audio Interface for guitar, bass and vocals

    I have a G4 Dual Processor 500.
For now I'm using a Griffin 1/4" to 1/8" adapter cable. I plug one end into my guitar and the other into my Microphone jack on the back of my computer. I even tried using a splitter to share my microphone port. This allowed me to share the stereo signal with Guitar and bass ( by setting guitar to left mono and bass to right mono in GB). This doesn't work well at all!!!
My goal is to have my friend come over so we can record live into GB using a custom software drum track with two real instrument tracks, guitar (me) and bass (him).
So, what is a good multi track audio interface (mixer) to do this with. Hopefully one that doesn't have latency problems. I think a four track would be enough, right.
    Is firewire better than USB?
What mixers do most GB muscians use?
    thanks,
    Haifarm

Sorry to highjack this discussion. I'm new to the boards and couldn't figure out how to post a new message.
Does anyone know when M-Audio might be updating their drivers to support Leopard? I've been monitoring the M-Audio site, but they're not being very specific with a time estimate. Does anyone remember how long it took them when Tiger was released? I really miss being able to use my Firewire 410 interface and 88es Keystation.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Need help finding an audio interface for my old ADAT

    Hello,
I've been using Cakewalk Sonar for about 3 years and recently purchased a Macbook Pro and am making the switch to logic. In Windows I was using a E-mu 1212m PCI audio card that was connected via lightpipe to a Behringer ADA8000 8-channel preamp that has ADAT lightpipe output.
The songs I do are 90% audio with midi only used very sparingly for maybe a piano here and there. I record drums with a 6 mic setup (2 overheads, 2 on snare, one bass, one hi-hat). I'm looking for a new audio interface to use with my Macbook Pro. I'm also looking at purchasing Logic Express as it seems like the only things in Pro that affect me is more channels than I use on songs.
I would really like to spend no more than maybe 400-600 dollars if possible. Based on reading these forums, the best thing may be for me to get a MOTU 828 MKII off eBay (they seem to be available for about 500) or PreSonus Firepod.
I've heard that some people love the PreSonus Fireface, but I'm not sure how the Firepod compares. Are the converters on the Firepod and 828 comparable or is the 828 significantly better?
Also, my behringer preamps seem OK but I wonder if the Firepod would probably have better sounding ones, I think I only paid 2 or 300 dollars for the Behringer one.
Any feedback at all would be great. Alot of great stuff on this forum I'm just having a tough time figuring out if I should ditch my existing ADAT preamp for a Firepod or use it with the 828 basically.
    Thanks,
    -Jayme

  • Firewire chain for external audio interface and hard drive

I use Logic Studio 8 on a Macbook Pro with a Presonus Firebox, an external Lacie Firewire hard drive for audio recording, and another Lacie Firewire drive for backups.
Is there a recommended chain order when chaining my Firewire devices together? I read somewhere on a ProTools forum that they recommend putting their Firewire audio interface Mbox2Pro at the end of the chain.
So right now I have Macbook Pro -> Backup Drive -> Audio Drive -> Presonus Firebox. I once had it in a different order with the audio drive first, but I found it was reading more slowly from/to the audio drive when it was in that order. I have no idea technologically why this would be the case.

I just found and joined this great forum. Following up on Ray's comments about his MacBook set-up, I have a similar MacBook 2ghz, 4mb ram, 9400 chipset, and am exploring getting into Logic Pro 8 and was wondering if my MacBook was underpowered, and whether I needed to step up right away to a MacBook Pro because of my lack of PCI slots for recording audio to an external eSATA drive.
I was encouraged to hear that the USB 2.0 connection for Ray's external WD 7200 hard drive has worked and improved things and his audio isn't getting choked and he is not getting the clicks and other problems.
I'm wondering if Ray or anyone else has any other tips on using a MacBook for Logic and for optimizing one's setup. And Ray, did you notice a point at which the clicks started? .. in terms of number of tracks? Or were they present from the outset? I'm wondering how many tracks you are running now on your system.
I might mention that I don't have an audio interface yet but was impressed with what I've read about the Apogee Duet. Any comments on interfaces and the Duet?
By the way, I'm just recording one instrument/one track at a time and perhaps occasionally two instruments at a time. And right now, my main purpose for getting into Logic is for editing and mixdown of pre-existing tracks that have already been created on a standalone hard-disc based DAW. If all goes well and if I like the whole Logic experience I'd expect to get a more powerful MacBook Pro or even a Mac Pro or whatever higher end iMac exists in the future.
To summarize, all I'm intending to do initially with the MacBook is:
    1) transfer individual digital tracks from a standalone hard disc-based DAW into Logic for mixdown and mastering.
    2) Record a few extra new tracks one at a time - probably not using any instrument plug-ins but relying on external synth/sampler/guitar sound sources ..in each song (maybe 3-4 tracks at most), and
    3) apply standard effects like reverb and EQ and panning to the mix down and master songs, each song containing a of approx 25-40 tracks.
My basic question is, can a MacBook 2Ghz with firewire 400, 4gb memory and USB2.0 to external hard drive handle this or is it underpowered? Thanks.

  • Looking for an audio interface with the following criteria

    -Firewire
    -At least 4 mic preamps
    -MIDI in/out
-Optical ("lightpipe") outs to the active monitors
Will I need to get a separate interface and midi or preamp box to get all this? Is there an interface out right now that satisfies these criteria?
    Advance thanks.

RME Fireface 800. Far and away the best sounding and most stable Mac inferface I've ever used. That includes 002, MOTU 2408, MOTU Ultralite and the M-Audio 410. Great pre's, great clocking and the Total-Mix software is unbelievable. I even use it as my main audio interface in Pro-Tools by sending firewire to and from the 002 and essentially using the 002 as a $ 1200 dongle.

  • Need suggestions for good online Adobe classes in photoshop, ill. indesign etc.

Hi I am a graphic designer and would like some suggestions for good online Adobe classes ... I found
Adobe Master Series Online Training Library at the Adobe store and was wondering has anyone had good, bad ugly experience with this before I make the purchase. The suite offers training in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, and various Macromedia titles so it covers it all for me in one go.

A less expensive, non-subscription option would be http://www.vtc.com they offer many video cds for applications that have given many I know a leg up on learning an application.

try external USB sound card option, m-audio or creative are a couple off the top of my head you could use. they usually come with a full driver and product suit that  can achieve a much better sound than the soundmax in touchsmart have to offer.

  • Need ideas for best audio setup on Q180

Hello all.  I've got a Q180 and very nice it is too, apart from one major ommision; there is no audio input/output on the rear panel, only on the front.  I want a setup where I can have speakers plugged in to the rear somehow, but also be able to switch to headphone and mic in the front when I need to skype etc.
I've bought a small usb sound card for the rear panel, which seems to work well, but if I plug headphone into the front, I have to go to the audio control panel to change the default output to the internal audio system, and then change it back when I've finished.
Is there a better way of doing this?  How have others arranged their audio needs with their Q180's?
    Thanks for any advice!
    Lee

Yes its one of the big ergonomic mistakes they made with the Q180 along with the power button you press everytime you plug something in (corrected on the Q190 at least).
Why would you want analogue output from the rear of a PC, where you cant see it and it looks neat. what a crazy notion (facepalms) Obviously you would want the cable poking out from under the front flap for a far more sleek look?!
Anyway the solution I came up with for one customer was a Bluetooth audio adapter.
A standard usb Bluetooth transmitter plugs in the back of the Q180 and the tiny Bluetooth receiver plugs into the 2.5mm audio in socket on his monitor.
You can find them cheap on Ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7dayshop-Bluetooth-Audio-Receiver-Adapter-Ref-BTR006-/400449362409?pt=UK_i...
You may still have some audio jiggery pokery to deal with though.
Sometimes USB equipped mic/headsets are easier to use as they just take priority as they are plugged in and out.

  • Adobe Audition 3.0 "Audio Hardware Settings" for USB Audio Interface HELP!

    Hi guys.
I’m after some help in the internal settings of Adobe Audition 3.0 whilst I’m trying to run my condenser mic through my ART USB Dual Pre.
I have the USB Dual Pre all set up in my Windows 7 set up (it automatically becomes the default recording device when it’s plugged in), phantom power enabled, XLR cable plugged into the right socket of the two available (is there any difference? I’m just recording voice tracking for radio announcements), headphones plugged into the monitoring jack at the back. Levels are turned up enough that they will pick up the noise, if there was any.
I go to the “edit” tab in Adobe Audition 3.0, hit record and nothing comes up. I’m not getting any sound at all registered on the computer. I’ve downloaded and installed Asio4All, but can’t for the life of me figure out the configuration within the “Edit > Audio Hardware Setup” to make the damn thing pick up my voice. There’s mention of Audio Drivers (Asio4All or Audition 3.0 Windows Sound), USB Audio Codecs, Input/Output… it’s enough to make a man who’s not very good at this sort of thing cry (ie. Me).
Could anybody help a body out, please? I think I’ve done everything right except the configuration within Audition itself. A helping hand would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks so much!

    Hey there,
Thanks for your reply! I'm not too good at describing what I'm doing, so I've taken screenshots of all the options in "Edit > Audio Hardware Settings" under Edit View and Multitrack view. They include both Audio Drivers available (which were Asio4All and Audition 3.0 Windows Sound) and the associated Default Input/Output options, as well as the Audio Driver control panels and the options that were checked/unchecked on them.
If anybody could tell me how to configure this so I can actually record from my USB Dual Pre, that would be one better than I can do!
    Thanks heaps.

  • Best Codec for good audio/video when exporting to 3G in FCP

I have FCP 6.06. I have a few videos I've tried converting to 3G using Quick Time Conversion and every setting: Default, 3GPP - Release 5, 3GPP2 - Release A, 3GPP - Mobile MP4, 3GPP2 - EZmovie and AMC - EZmovie. Every one has blurry video and poor quality audio both when I play it on my computer and after I copy it to my phone. Any ideas why and how I can improve the quality of the video and audio which looks good in FCP before conversion.

True, but the same options will be available from within Compressor. I've never had to export to 3G and I can't test it at the moment. Hope you get better answers.

  • Need suggestions for good webcam (not isight) for  OS 10.4.9

I never would have thought it would be so hard to find a webcam for my powerbook! Simple question, Who makes a good one now that isight isn't made anymore? I want to use it with Skype and iChat. Thanks!!!

Today I just bought the quickcam fusion which works well... I just plugged it in and it worked - I didn't install any software (windows only software comes with the camera), so I'm not sure if I can take advantage of features such as "rightlight 2", which enhances the video under low light, and I don't think that I can take 4MP images with it - just video conferencing with ichat (which is what I bought it for) (and I just found freakshow - which is like photobooth).
Make sure you get the UVC version of any webcam...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4401596&#4401596
It's kinda difficult to figure out which cameras are UVC compatible - I just looked at the table in the following link and picked the quickcam fusion with the "rightlight 2". The one with just "rightlight" is not UVC compatible.
