Need Recover earlier iCal Server Data after Failed 3.2.1

After a nightmare updating from 10.6.8 Server to 10.9 Server a couple off months back when we had a hardware failure.  We ended up with endless Open Directory errors mostly caused by Apple's botched migration tool and hours spent at the terminal solving these.
We updated to 3.2.1 on Friday night prior to knowing about the Postgres fail it causes.  The server ran normally with mail/filesharing/open directory etc. and we opened up the ports to it.
By Saturday morning I started getting text messages from users saying that their calendars were missing.  As it was the weekend and little important commercial email had come in, I rolled back the system using the Server Restore Time Machine instructions Restoring OS X Server from a Time Machine backup to a few hours before the update and everything seemed fine.  Mail and calendars were there and the mail data definitely corresponded to the time of backup.
Unfortunately on Monday morning I started to get reports from users that while the older calendar events were present, recent data from the last week or so appeared to be missing.  I have restored repeatedly trying from many different backups (at 1.5 hrs per try) and the same issue arrises.  A lot of these calendar events are crucial to our business.
One I'm super annoyed that Apple let this update out at all.   What on earth is going on over there??! I'm seriously considering shifting to a more stable supplier/platform. Two I'm annoyed that I let it go live (But I don't see how I could have check all users individual calendar events) ... and three ... I need a way to test calendar data from lots of Time Machine backups without restoring the whole system each time.  I've been up 30+ hours.  Apple's instructions don't work.  I think I can see where the Calendar Data is stored ( Macintosh HD/Library/Server/Calendar and Contacts).
Is there a way to just recover this data? by means of
Switching Off the Calendar service > Transfer Data > Switch On Calendar Service
I don't mind the terminal.... obviously I'm a Mac user so would prefer GUI say by using CCC.
Please HELP!  Apple isn't!

  • Error when trying to relocate the iCal server data store

I'm so frustrated with iCal server already - I setup an advanced server as a standalone and got iCal server working with a couple clients. I then tried to move the data store to a new drive for greater storage and redundancy but as soon as I did I started getting failures from the clients when they attempt to register. The error I receive is:
    "Account information not found
Unexpected secure name resolution error (code -9843) the server name xservername.myhost.com may be incorrect"
My server is up and running fine at that address. What do you need to do to relocate the calendar store?

It appears I have fixed the problem. I moved the directories and lost the permissions and directory ownership. I changed all of the files to RWXRWXR-X permissions with "sudo CHMOD -R 775 MyDocumentDirectory" and I changed ownership with "sudo CHOWN -R calendar:calendar MyDocumentDirectory"
I then restarted the service. It still wasn't working. I had a hunch that it had to do with the SSL certificate so I created a new self-signed certificate, updated the ical service to use that and it appears to be working.
Apple, if you're listening you REALLY need to work on the ease of use of this - I stumbled into this solution and nothing in the server of your documentation gave me any help with this at all.

  • Ical server disclaims after security update 2009-006 (Server)

    hi
after i update the leopardserver 10.5.8 to the actual security update 2009-006 (Server), the ical server was not available anymore. the ical client say something like "host disclaims access".
i tried to restinstall 10.5.8 combo update and disc repair. but that doesnt work, and to disactivate firewall for a try.
anybody an idea how to fix this?
    thanks!

  • Need to test iCal server with Mobile devices

I have a deployment of the iCal Server rolling out to a global user community. I know it works with the iPhone and iPad, but I need other mobile platforms that we can test it with. So if there are any users with other mobile devices that want to test connections to a Caldav server - I would love to be able to try it out.

    Hi Dave,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to make the calendars in SharePoint can be viewed in iCalendar format in the mobile devices.
To make the SharePoint calendars be viewed in iCalendar format and then you can sync your iPhone with the calendar , you can use the
MashPoint REST API. Please refer to the link below:
    http://community.bamboosolutions.com/blogs/mashpoint/archive/2010/10/07/how-to-synch-your-iphone-ipad-with-a-sharepoint-calendar.aspx
    Best regards.

  • Need entering BIOS to setup date after battery empty

    Hi, I'm new here.
I worked as technical support where I should maintain many T400.
I have to deal with this issue for T400 type 2767 CTO
The T400 should entering BIOS first and re set date format to actual date after battery empty
Without re set date and time T400 can't be use.
I have checked whether there's damaged in internal BIOS battery, and find no issue in there.
In previous purchase where I got same T400 but different type ( TYPE 2767 RR4) we've never seen an issue like this.
    Any solution about my problem
    Many thanks.
    Regards,
    Doni

Thanks, it was very messy I tried to make it simple and installed Win 8.1 OS on the SSD, with up to 1GB/sec r/w transfer rate when all performance functions in Magician were enabled, and the HDD from Seagate has up to 170MB/sec r/w transfer rate, ok, don't want to touch the bios before I have to

  • Help! Need to recover lost hard drive data after creating a partition!

So, I'm the world's biggest idiot, and I was trying to reformat my hard drive so that I could bring the documents from my Mac to my PC.
All of the docs were perfectly organized in folders and subfolders a long time ago, and once that had been done, I deleted everything off of the MacBook itself. I never thought I'd have to move all of the docs to a PC, but alas, nothing ever goes the way we plan now does it?
Anyways, I created a FAT 32 partition not realizing it would delete everything I already had on the hard drive, so now I need to recover all of that.
Is there ANY way that I can recover all the data I lost?
    Pls respond.

When you create a partition, the partition is the erased so all content is lost.  There are data recovery services that may be able to recover the material, but they are very, very expensive, if they can even succeed with this kind of erasure.
Check and see if there are any hard drive data recovery services in your area.

  • Recovering Lost iPhone Data After Failed Backup

So my mother is somewhat technically challenged and has never backed up her iphone before.. Basically I told her to do so and get the newest software update but I think an error occurred during the backup procedure and she continued with the update/restore anyways. So she lost all of her data and is very sad . Is there any possible way to find the data either on the restored empty phone, or on the computer from the failed backup (maybe it made a corrupted file that we can fix?)
    Please help!
    Thanks!

No, sorry.  Without a backup it is gone.  Did you backup to iCloud by chance?

  • Recovering earlier installed Windows 7 after installing Arch Linux

I'm trying to boot windows on my ASUS notebook.
There was windows 7 from the very beginning (disks C:\ and D:\), then I divided disk D:\ on several partitions and installed Arch Linux. I overwrited Windows boot information by boot part of Linux. Now I want to recover windows, that I still have on hard drive. It doesn's matter what there will be: dualboot or only windows (but dualboot is prefered).

Now I know that I don't need MBR at all (but google told me that recovering windows = recovering MBR..)
Are there any ways to recover boot information on EFI system partition from Linux without using Windows Live CD and it's bootrec.exe?
I have bootmgr and bootmgfw.efi files on /dev/sda3 (partition with windows installed), what else I need? Simple copy of bootmgfw.efi to /boot/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi and addition of custom menu item to /etc/grub.d/40_custom does'nt work. There is Windows now in rEFInd and GRUB menus, but there is error on loading.

  • ICal server broken after SSL renewal

SSL was about to expire so I setup a new SSL. Assigned it to all of the services requiring the SSL. I can bind computers okay, but cannot authenticate to iCal or Addressbook server. The error states that it can see the caldav server, but the username or password is incorrrect. I've reset the user passwords and no go. It has to do something with the SSL, but can't figure out what. Any advice?

Finally found the error. Somehow a setting for Digest authentication had changed to
    Calendar:Authentication:Digest:Qop = "auth"
    after changing it back to
    Calendar:Authentication:Digest:Qop = ""
    everything works well again!

  • Is there any way to recover my ipod's data after water damage ?

My ipod fell in water (toilet). I turned it on to see if it still worked (I know I shouldn't had to) and the screen hardly worked. The morning after nothing worked so i put it in a sock beside the refrigerator ( warm and dry place).I've been constantly travelling so i couldn't take it to a specialist. I had some really important recordings (dictaphone app) and i'd like to know if there is any way to recover them. Thank you SO MUCH for taking your time to read this. Have a nice day

I did and was told that they're waiting on the replacement of the defective screen.  The battery is slowly draining, so it doesn't seem that they're using it, I was just hoping there was a way to double check without saying flat out that I'm starting to not trust them.  KWIM?  I'm  nowthinking that once the battery dies, I'm going to activate the lost mode and hope for the best.

  • ICal Server/caldavd and a non-OD/AD LDAP setup.

I'm trying to get caldavd working on my new Leopard Server install, but I've been hitting a few roadblocks.
The server was upgraded from Tiger, and the upgrader put the new system into "Advanced" mode, so I have Server Admin instead of Server Preferences. I'd like to stay in advanced mode, rather than reinstalling to workgroup mode.
When the server was running Tiger, it was not running an OD server at all, just binding to our existing LDAP infrastructure for user authentication. After the upgrade, it was still in that mode. However, trying to start iCal server got me the "No virtual host" error.
I switched the server to be an OD master, while keeping our own LDAP servers below localhost in the search order. This created the Computers entry I needed, and the iCal server started up.
However, it's still not working. I tried to enable Calendaring for the diradmin user (as a test) and I get the following message when I run caldavd -Xf /etc/caldavd/caldavd.plist:

Does anyone have any suggestions for debugging this issue?
This is, of course, just the first step. My next step is to use Directory Utility to map openldap attributes to opendirectory attributes. That actually seems to be working OK, but I can't know for sure until I get the server working for OD users.
    Thanks in advance.

There is something odd about a record the server is trying to load. Can you try this:
    1) In Workgroup Manager disable calendaring for ALL users.
    2) Restart calendar server and see if it starts up (it should).
    3) Create a new user in Workgroup Manager and enable calendaring on that one only.
    4) Restart calendar server and see if it starts up.
    5) For the existing users, enable calendaring on each one and try and find the one that causes the calendar server to not startup.
    6) Once you have identified the problem record, do a dump of its attributes via dscl and post here.

  • Ical server/client suddenly stopped working together

    Hi
I have 10.6.1 server with a group calendar served on a wiki. There are multiple users using 10.6.1 macbook, using ical to display/edit the group calendar. Server has a correctly configured FQDN. Apart from some niggles (will come to later), all has been fine for the last 2 weeks - all 10.6 clients have been able to connect without problems (to FQDN:8008/principals/wikis/groupadministration ). I do not have SSL. Today, one of the clients could no longer update the group calendar or refresh it (for changes from other people).
The following is in the client system log:
iCal[278] Exception in -[CalDAVAccountRefreshQueueableOperation refreshWithExceptionHandling] :: * -[NSCFString rawInterval]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x165437f0
In the server caldavd error log:
    [caldav-8009] [-] [twistedcaldav.method.propfind#error] Error reading property ('DAV:', 'current-user-privilege-set') for resource /calendars/_uids_/wiki-groupadministration/inbox/: <StatusResponse 401 Access denied while reading property {DAV:}current-user-privilege-set.>
Web access still works for this user.
There have been no changes to any set up and the user in question had no problems in the last 2 weeks, until today. I understand it just "stopped working" this morning - user can offer no further help.
In other niggles (possibly unrelated but if anyone can help):
    * I have an older client, running 10.5.8 with no wish to upgrade to 10.6, as there are some software compatibility issues (Adobe CS2, Parallels 3) and no budge to update software. ical has never been able to connect to the ical server reliably - after the first update/sync, no further updates are possible.
    * It is not possible to disable alarms to the group calendar in ical. Option-i, uncheck the box, and 30 seconds later the box is checked again. Each user has their own "personal" calendar in the group calendar, and some users like to have alarms. It is not possible to disable those alarms for other users.
Hope someone can help. All in all, I am not particularly impressed with SL server.

    Hello all,
since yesterday I'm having the same problem. the server was even not touched the last days.
    Thank you
    Horst

  • Backup/Migrate iCal Server

    Hi everybody,
How would one migrate the iCal Server from one Lion Server to a new Lion Server?
And related to this question: how do you export the iCal Server data for backup purposes?
    Greetings,
    Martin

Well, the postgres does a data dump daily ... but Apple does not provide an easy restore.
Contact Apple.  I think I'd like to start a petition on this.

  • External Data Refresh Failed. We cannot locate a server to load the workbook Data Model. ThisWorkBookDataModel

    Hi All,
I have been trying to fix this for days now. I have tried solutions in many articles but to no avail. So while the error message is something you may have seen may times, I just can't find a solution in my case.
    This is the error:
And in text just in case the image isn't viewable:
"External Data Refresh Failed. We cannot locate a server to load the workbook Data Model. We were unable to refresh one or more data connections in this workbook. The following connections failed to refresh: ThisWorkBookDataModel."
What is worse is I have checked the ULS (SharePoint Trace Logs), the Event Viewer Logs and the OWA Logs and I cannot find a specific error that would help pin point the problem.
    Excel Workbook
So what am I doing? I have an Excel 2013 workbook and I create an "SQL Server" connection to the AdventureWorksDW database, add a pivot table and a pivot chart, test in in Excel and all works fine.
I save the Excel workbook to SharePoint 2013 and then select "Data" then "Refresh All Connections" and then I get the error in the picture above.
Even more puzzling is I have another Excel workbook that also has pivot tables and pivot charts in the AdventureWorksDW2012Multidimensional cube database in "SQL Analysis Services" and this works fine. Hmmm.
    My Environment
My environment is Windows 2008 R2 Server, SharePoint 2013 with the April Service Pack1 and a separate server with OWA2013 SP1. It has an SQL Server 2008 R2 database which has been upgraded to SQL Server 2012.
    Data Model Settings
In Excel Services this is set to my server name which is "server-name". As I do not have instances all I can enter is the server name. As this works everywhere else including the workbook outside of SharePoint I do not think this is the problem.
    But I could be wrong.
    Unattended Account
I have set this up for the PowerPivot Services App and Excel Services App.
    ODC Connections in Excel
I have tried all 3 authentication modes, Windows, Secure Store ID and "None" which is the unattended account. I have not tried the other connection types, should I?
    Not in WOPI
I am not in WOPI mode.
    AD Accounts
I have added permissions in the SharePoint Services and SQL Server, and as they work in Excel outside of SharePoint, I do not think it is a permissions issue. I could be wrong of course, but the problem is in one of SharePoint, OWA, AD,
SQL Server, Excel, and Windows Server.
    Isolate the Error
Below is a list of errors I think are relevant but they do not tell me much. The SharePoint logs are not really giving me an error that tells me what to do and where to do it, or even why it cannot refresh, (perhaps not noticeable by the untrained eye).
Problem with SQL Server Not Analysis Services
So my cube database in analysis services works fine in SharePoint/OWA but not the databases in sql server. This is my best clue but I have no idea what it means. Why would it work with an Analysis Services connection but not an "SQL Server" connection?
    It Works Outside of SharePoint
If I run the excel worksheet outside of SharePoint all works fine. When inside OWA this is where the refresh error occurs.
Errors from Event Viewer on SharePoint Server using ULS Viewer
"Failed to create an external connection or execute a query. Provider message: There are no servers available or actively being initialized., ConnectionName: , Workbook:"
"Refresh failed for 'ThisWorkbookDataModel' in the workbook 'http://server...'. [Session: 1.V22.26itT0lx8piNFeqtuGVhN214.5.en-US5.en-US36.98c0e158-9113-46e9-850e-edda81d9ed1c1.A1.N User: 0#.w|ad\testuser1]"
And an error in the ULS under the "Data Model" category:
"--> Check Deployment Mode (server-name): Fail (Expected: SharePoint, Actual: Multidimensional)."
This last error, as it turned out, defined the problem concisely, although I was yet to work out what it meant in some detail.

I finally solved this myself (or should I say with the help of several key articles).
The refresh did not work because the database was not in "SharePoint Mode". Yes, SQL Server has modes, 3 of them in fact.
If you installed SharePoint to the default SQL instance which would be called <servername> then you cannot use this default instance for Excel 2013 workbooks in OWA 2013 because the refresh only works if the database is in SharePoint mode.
So what are these 3 modes? The Deployment Mode property in the msmdsrv.ini file has them as:
0 = Multidimensional mode (the default whenever you install SQL Server normally)
1 = PowerPivot for SharePoint mode
    2 = Tabular mode mode
How do you know what mode you are in? That's easy, open SQL Studio Manager and connect to all your SQL database engine instances (ignore Analysis Services or SSRS as they are not database engines). If you only have the default instance then that is almost
definately in Multidimensional mode which is the default and what SharePoint installs its databases to.
You must have an instance called <servername>\POWERPIVOT. This instance is the "sharepoint mode" needed, and the default instance name when you install an SQL instance in this mode.
If you don't see <servername>\POWERPIVOT in SQL server then you are not in "sharepoint mode". It is more accurate to say, you do not have an instance that is in sharepoint mode. This is because you cannot simply switch modes on an SQL server.
You have to install a new instance in the required mode, thats the only way.
That's easy enough. Load up the SQL Server setup CD and run setup. Install a brand new instance and select "SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint" when you get there in the wizard.
Now you will have the default instance that stores all the SharePoint databases and that is in mode 0, and a new instance called <servername>\POWERPIVOT that is in mode 1. The "<servername>\POWERPIVOT" instance connection is what you
will use for Excel 2013 when rendering in OWA 2013.
You also need to ensure OWA 2013 is not in WOPI mode for Excel worksheets. See the last link below for more information about WOPI.
Next you should go to the Excel Service App in CA and click Data Model Settings and add the <servername>\POWERPIVOT instance.
Then you have to either turn off the firewall on the SQL server machine, or create an inbound rule on the Windows firewall to open the TCP port for the <servername>\POWERPIVOT instance:
    1. Start Task Manager and then click Services to get the PID of the MSOLAP$InstanceName.
    2. Run netstat –ao –p TCP from the command line to view the TCP port information for that PID.
Finally, you can now create Excel 2013 workbooks that run in OWA without refresh errors, as long as you are connecting to the <servername>\POWERPIVOT instance. Hooray.
