Need reference/tutorial about iDisk (especially .Mac mail) access by iPhone

Greetings,
I have started getting quite interested in using my .Mac subscription, especially the iDisk online storage capabilities while being on the road with my MBP.
HOWEVER, I am also intrigued with accessing iDisk and .Mac Mail from my iPhone.
1. That's where I am having problem number one: seems that i cannot use my iPhone to access anything I put into iDisk's folders from my MBP. I put files into iDisk on my desktop, check if same files are on iDisk by reaching .Mac online, but I do not see anything on my iPhone while accessing iDisk from it. I do see the same iDisk folders as i see on my desktop Documents, etc..), but with no data inside.
My .Mac WebGallery/Albums work well from my iPhone.
2. Similar problem with Mail. Everything is OK - send receive - as far as .Mac Mail goes, if reached from my laptop. Not so with the iPhone: even though I can send/receive from .Mac Mail from my iPhone, and I do see .Mac Mail's mail boxes, and message insides, I cannot access attachments that i might have sent from Mail on my MBP or from .Mac Mail from my MBP.
I hope this is not too complicated a request for assistance: I have done well so far with most of the iPhone amzingly well integrated capabilities, but I am stumped here re: iPhone access to .Mac's Mail and iDisk.
Thanks in advance!
Roger T

Thanks, Zerimar. Indeed, somewhat useless. Not a big deal, but the rest of the interface between my MBP and the iPhone, as well as the iPhone design itself, are quite wonderful. I keep trying to detect some inadequacies in that interface. Not too many!
Seems that Apple designed the iPhone to purposefully limit its online capabilities (security issues, or prevention of unnecessary troubleshooting issues, just like in the case on unlocking phones!)

  • Need help with iMac intel desktop - Mac mail consistently going OFFLINE

I need help with Mac mail - it is frequently going "offline" and requesting me to "take all accounts online". My internet is working. It's been checked, checked and checked. Sometimes it just takes a reboot of the system and the modem to kick it in and make the little triangle symbol go away, but should I have to reboot daily? I have the Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 installed. Is there a bug here or am I supposed to upgrade to Mavericks? Any help is most appreciated.

For me this is an issue caused by my email service provider.  When they are slow to respond or to accept the password Mail takes that as a password rejection, and prompts me to reenter password, and eventually goes offline.

  • HT201320 How about configuring Mac mail for the iPhone?

I had tried to add my Mac mail to receive emails
But I have been asked to provide outgoing and
Incoming servers which I do not have an idea about it.

Contact your mail provider for these instructions/settings. They should have a web page showing this information.

  • Question about importing from mac mail to folder in address book

Is it possible to place imported email addresses (Mac email) into specific folder(s) in Address Book rather than into just the All Folder.? For example, I have several business addresses that I want to import from Mac Mail automatically into my Business Folder and several others that I want to go into Friends Folder. Can this be done? If so how? Thanks
iMac Intel Duo 20" Mac OS X (10.4.10)
      Mac OS X (10.3.7)

The Address Book database is similar to the iTunes database and iPhoto database.
If you use iTunes then you know you can't place a song in a playlist without the song being in the primary iTunes database first and the same with iPhoto. You can't place a photo in an album with the photo being in the main iPhoto library first.
The same with Address Book. You can't place a contact in an Address Book group without the contract being in the primary Address Book "All" Group and I'm not aware of a way to place a contact in the primary All group and in a designated group at the same time.

  • Mac Mail POP accounts + iPhone

Hello, and please forgive me in advance if this has been covered.
I'm trying to sync all of my Mac Mail POP accounts to the iPhone, which at first seemed simple, which it was until on the Mac side Mail started to ask me for passwords over and over again... though on the iPhone side everything seems groovy.
As a work around I've selected only the .Mac accounts to be synced for now.
I'm sure it's an easy fix, just wanted to put this out there in case I'm doing something wrong

Honestly, 'sync' and 'POP' don't belong together in
    the same sentence.
You should seriously take a look at using IMAP
technology wherever it is available, converting your
POP3 mailboxes where you can. Mail service at .Mac is
offered in both flavors, and you are far better off
    using IMAP.
This is not an iPhone specific matter, as the POP3 vs
IMAP issue comes up almost daily in the
Mail & Address Book forum. You might want to
browse or search it to learn why IMAP is the answer
to those who seek to 'synchronize' mail content.
    thanks for your reply.
What I meant by putting 'sync' and 'pop' in the same sentence was syncing the Mac Mail accounts, not necessarily the emails. I understand the difference between pop and imap.
The point of my question revolves around what I've already stated. I'm not looking to argue about semantics, how many terms I've decided to use in one sentence, or a discussion on your opinion of pop vs. imap; just trying to figure out why all of a sudden Mac Mail on the host computer is asking me for passwords over and over again after hooking up the iPhone and attempting to 'sync' mail account information over.

  • How do I replicate the folders I have in Mac Mail on my iPhone?

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere on the forum - I have searched but couldn't find what I was looking for.
This should be a simple fix, but I can't work it out... All I want to do is have exactly the same Mail folders on my iPhone as I have on my desktop Mail. I'm syncing via MobileMe.
    In Mac Mail I have:
    Inbox
    Sent
    Trash
    Junk
    Action
    Filed
    Later
Whereas, on my iPhone, I have:
    Inbox
    Drafts
    Sent
    Trash
    Action
    Apple Mail To Do
    Deleted Messages
    Drafts
    Filed
    Junk
    Junk (me.com)
    Later
    Sent Messages
All I want to do is tidy the above so that my iPhone Mail only displays the folders I have in Mac Mail. If anyone can talk me through this, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks roaminggnome... but there are a lot more folders on my iPhone than there are on MobileMe and I'm still not sure why or where they came from.
Here's a question which might help clarify what the problem is. Why are there two Sent folders on my iPhone ("Sent" and "Sent Messages")? Why are there two Trash folders ("Trash" and "Deleted Messages")? Why are there two Junk folders ("Junk" and "Junk (me.com)")? Is there any way to conflate these folders so that only one folder performs each function?
I only have one Mail account, so why would I want two folders each containing (say) sent messages? I'd rather have all my sent messages in one place.... it would make like much simpler!
I hope that makes sense. Thanks for your patience in helping me with this - I'm sure I'm just overlooking something very obvious.

  • .Mac mail aliases from iPhone

Have been searching about this, but could not find the answer. Does anyone know how (or if it is possible) to use .Mac aliases when sending mails from iPhone?
    Thanks.
    SCBZK

Thanks. Did help. Though, after trying number of days with this, it is getting annoying to receive copies of all mails addressed to any of my .Mac account, into every alias I have made on my iPhone...
Maybe, I must wait until Apple does something about this.
BTW, already submitted a request to Apple, fyi.

  • Cannot verify mac mail account on iPhone

I tried appleid.appl.com as suggested, but that didn't work. Anyone any ideas please?

Delete the account (in Mail) and make a new version.
Hotmail is POP, you have no server copy so backup the mail before deleting the account.

  • Question about setting up pop mail on my iPhone

When I try to set up my pop mail account, I get a message saying the account cannot use SSL and asks if I want to proceed without SSL. Is this just an added security layer? If I say to proceed, will the account be set up, and will it be secure?

SSL is short for secure sockets layer.
    http://webnet77.com/secure-email.html
If the incoming mail server for your POP account does not support SSL, you can't use it with the account. The account should be set up when proceeding without using SSL since it appears the email account provider for your email account does not support using SSL.

  • Mail access on iphone 5

I have recently upgraded to IOS 8.1.2. Since doing so there has been a variety of strange things occur.
    1. I have a password vault (app) which refused to work for 4 days and then came good
    2. Both my wife's apps and mine loaded on to the iphone from itunes when i synced and now i have twice as many apps
    3. This is the one that i am struggling with. Trying to get to my mail accounts through Settings--Mail,Contacts,Calendars is impossible as all accounts are grayed out rendering them unaccessible. I have spoken to Optus who had a look but suggest it is an Apple problem. Have tried in-store but pandemonium until school holidays over. Have tried re-syncing and power down to no avail. Have bulk emails in outbox which I have attempted but cannot send. Still receiving incoming emails but need access to reset email account
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hi there,
What kind of email accounts are we talking about? Gmail, Exchange?

  • Alternatives to mac mail?

ready to throw in the towel. i have business i need to conduct.
is TB on my macs the answer here? GM on the cloud?
i have two computers and an iPhone and use IMAP.
    TIA

    hi eric.
thanks for the always really thoughtful and really helpful response here. i will read each of these links tomorrow AM.
would you mind helping me strategize here a bit and let me ask you a couple questions now? i am trying to /streamline/ things up better for business now that i am no longer a newbie. and i am having an issue with mail getting stuck in the outbox (i think in sparrow on my iphone), but i am also constantly having outgoing email problems on my computers (probably due to something dumb going on with incoming or outgoing mailservers but i am tired of trying to troubleshoot this) - and basically between two computers and an iphone and my various accounts this has all become unmanageable.
i mean, my /domains/ went down because my autopay stopped when i changed cards and it took me like two weeks to figure out that the fact that i was not getting email was due to the DOMAIN SIDE and not something to do with mac mail. this is no longer possible to maintain.
    here's the lowdown:
    1. i have a couple GMail accounts (each with App Specific Password enabled which is acatually pain managing in and of itself), a me.com address, one website with one domain based email address and another website with about twelve domain based email addresses. actually it is a bit more complicated than that since i have an /old/ domain URL that has twelve domain based email addresses and i have a new domain URL (that i am migrating to when i setup a new site) and i am forwarding the old email addresses to the new email addresses - basically so i don't have to enter 24 email addresses in 3 different email clients on 3 different devices.
    2. i have Mail and Thunderbird loaded on my computers. i have OUTLOOK loaded to my computers but i am not using it yet.
    3. i have Mail, Sparrow, Mailbox, Gmail all loaded on my iPhone
    4. i /have/ been using Mail Signatures to make various signatures as well as to store and send information i have to provide periodically to colleagues - like access to FTP accounts - but this is probably more easily stored in dropbox since i have to try to remember to EMAIL the signature to myself, get on my other device, add this information to the signature pane of the other device and i am not actually sure if i can even get this to my iphone in this manner so this all breaks down very badly. but even keeping signatures up to date is a big pain.
    5. i /did/ like Thunderbird quite a lot but i moved to mail because the migration of mail was sort of very DOS and a big pain and hard for me to manage when i was on PC. i also used to use Outlook Express a long time ago when on a PC and i am starting to think i should move back to both.
    other info:
when i change a single email address in mac mail on the iphone or on my computers i have about 12 different settings i have to enter and if i have to do something with 12 addresses this is basically a lot of work - not to mention i might have to do it on 3 devices. also, since i am still having problems after 4 years i am starting to think this is an unhealthy relationship and i should stop imagining there is something i can do to fix it.
do you have any thoughts about what i would /lose/ if i simply forward all my domain based email from the DOMAIN SIDE to one of my google accounts and just access/setup this one google account on the email clients of my various devices? i mean, i read up on this awhile back in a couple of articles in lifehacker but i think they were accessing the mail from the GMail web app and one issue seemed to be whether/how you would/could send mail from an individual account with an individual signature.
anyway, is there a radical way to cut bait?
what about setting up Outlook? a good idea?
maybe forwarding everything to GMail and just adding the GMail address to my email clients and try that for awhile...?
i realize that since i am using IMAP i can access email from anywhere, and i also realize i have a lot of email clients loaded but in some cases i am not seeing mail for one email address on one client which i see on another but also some clients like sparrow load lightning fast whereas mail takes a very long time on my iphone.

  • Hi there, suddenly I can't send email from my iphone. I use mac mail, have deleted it, restored it, done a sync to my mac book, read endless help paged and still get the message *unable to connect to smtp.me.mail . Some one please help!!!

Does anyone know why my mac/me mail would suddenly stop sending mail? Happend a few weeks back since the software update and now won't send a thing. LIke I said I deleted the acount, set it up again, did a sync to my mac book, checked settings again and still it wont send mail. Received fine.
I've looked through the threads but cant find one for me/mac mail on the iphone with same problem

I spoke with Apple Support this morning and they believe anything MobileMe related is due to the conversion over to iCloud that's taking place.
As for other email clients, check with your host to see if settings have changed on their end. I use inmotionhosting.com and over the weekend the updated their outgoing requirements so that a password authentication is now needed.
Hope that helps get some on the right path to resolving their issues!

  • Mac mail import from excel email list

Using leopard on new imac. Could someone please give me some advice for importing to mac mail. I purchased 2000 email leads which was emailed to me in excel format. I can open in numbers fine and looks great. My problem is I need to import these leads to mac mailß, with email, name, address, phone, etc. and haven't found a way to do this. Can anyone help. Thanks in advance. Gary

Try importing them into the address book, this is where mail gets it's email addresses from. There is an option to import a text file. Just back up the address book before you import them since this could create a problem since it's dependent on file headers. i've never tried this before so I'm going out on a whim but the help files in the address book says that it supports importing of csv and tab deliminated files. I would not use the text file if it's been saved from numbers. Use the exact file that was sent to you by the company you purchased the contacts from. Good luck!

  • Quota limit reached?  Delete Mac Mail messages?

I'm a bit confused (make that VERY confused).  I keep getting this "Quota limit reached" message.   Apple iPhone rep tells me that I have to start deleting my 25,000 Mac Mail messages.
Thing is, I don't have time to delete even half those messages.  If I have to, I will but is there another easier way?
I don't really need Mac Mail on my iPhone anyway.  I'd like to just delete it all together buy iPhone Apple rep said that I can't because it's synced?
    I don't get it.
Please help!  Whatever answer anyone gives me, please don't make it too "techie" --as in assuming I know more than I do.
BTW, I am still using 10.5.8 on m Mac Book Pro.  Making an appointment today with Apple store to get this done.  Can't do it myself as I have some tech glitches that may cause problems if I try to do do this--so I need professonal "Genius Bar" help.
Just thought I would add that in case it's relevant to this process.

Go to iCloud.com and click on mail. Then you can delete multiple messages quickly. All you have to do is hold your shift key and your up or down arrow keys to select multiple messages. If you have important ones, you can select up to those ones and delete the junk.
Or, you can buy iCloud storage. Which is 20 bucks for 10 gigabytes.
