Need Report Builder Learning Resource -- Books, CDROM, etc.
I'm a seasoned SW architect and I'm pretty good at learning stuff on my own. I need a resources for learning Oracle Report Builder. I did a few of the tutorials on the web but they do little more than take you thru the wizzards. They don't cover more advanced topics like reports with several linked queries.
The only book I found dates from about 1999-2000 and covers Forms and Reports. Only about 20% of the book is Reports.
http://www.amazon.com/Oracle-Developer-Advanced-Forms-Reports/dp/0072120487/sr=8-2/qid=1169213574/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/103-6435048-1295048?ie=UTF8&s=books
Anyone know how much the product has changed in six years? Would that be too out of date?
There is an CD-ROM course from Oracle for $500. Anyone use that who can give a review?
I know there's also a one week course from Oracle for $3K. I'm not that into sitting in class for a whole week if I don't have to.
Anyone recommend any other learning resources?
Try this URL
http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/reports.html
This has links for 10g, 9i, and 6i. Look for the PDF called
"Building Reports" for the version you need. I just started learning Reports, and it is invaluable.

Hi
Can anyone give me some useful information on the best ways to design and build a database/booking & dispatch system that can be intergrated through ical, address book and available on my macbook, ipad & iphone and all accessed through icloud.
I started my own chauffuer Service a year ago as an independent. it's becoming a massive bore that most of my time is spent taking down information, checking if i am available for clients and with alot of diary checking and repeatative entries and email ping pong and invoicing, what i want to do is concerntrate on advertising and marketing and using my time off for R & R
What i would like to do is access my information in an app and automate most of the processes like
assigning the job to the client with intergration through iCal and Address Book
be able to email confirmation through mail with an invoice produced through numbers or excel
payment is already done through payleven mobile and must be done in person so i'd rather keep that seperate to all processes apart from a tick box to say it has been paid for.
I have been looking at all options FileMaker, Bento, Automator, Apple Script. to be frank im no expert and am a little confused as to what to do any advice would be greatly recieved.Hi,
I would suggest that is going to be an involved and complex process.
I would personally look into some of the invoicing and time scheduling software available and see if any fit your needs.

Reports Builder has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Hi All,
The report builder in my system is behaving weirdly. If I open a report, which is having a normal browser output, it allowing me to see the data model, layout model and everything. And if I open a report, which is having a PDF output, it's not allowing me to open the Layout.
Here the output is in context of Oracle Applications front-end. And as I know it shouldn't be a problem with Report Builder.
It errors out with the following message.
Reports Builder has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
And the error report contains the following message.

I have tried reinstalling the software a minimum of 10 times, but no luck. At last I got my system formatted and tried. For the first time it worked for me, then I installed Forms Builder... then again I am getting the same problem even though I have different homes for Reports and Forms.
Is it problem with my system or the Operating System or the version of the Oracle Developer?
Can anyone please help me out?
Thanks in advance,

AR Aging - Need to change 7 bucket to 5 bucket - Report Builder
Is there anyone out there who might be able to help me? We've recently implemented Oracle Applications 11.5.10 and I have to use report builder to change the Accounts Receiveable Aging (7 bucket) to a 5 bucket report. I'm not a big Oracle Reports guy, but I've stumbled through making some changes in various other reports. But this one is just plain nasty! :)
I was thinking that I could simply add buckets 6 & 7 to bucket 5, then just hide or delete the 6 & 7 buckets. But I'm not sure where to even start. Any help with this would GUARANTEE a Christmas or other holiday card this year! :)
I really want to keep this simple as possible, so any help would be very....helpful. :)
Thanks again!
SteveWell, as an update, I was able to do 90% of what I needed to, but I still have one problem remaining. Hopefully someone will help, because this part is hurting my head. :)
I was able to move things around, combine a couple of buckets, and convert this to a 5 bucket report. The only thing left to do is add two flex-fields (attribute11 and attribute12). The problem is, unless I'm looking in the wrong place, the SELECT statement is being built dynamically and I need these two fields from "ra_customer_trx_all_mrc_v" or "ra_customer_trx_all". Does ANYONE have any experience or knowledge about this? I've added fields to queries before and then been able to add them to a report, but this is the first I've come across that builds the query dynamically...
Thanks to anyone who can help!

Report RSXMB_RESTART_MESSAGES needs a lot of resources
Hi,
we are using PI 7, SPS9.
When we have a heavy load in XI, we are getting sometimes JavaNullPointer-Exceptions in Java-mappings, so we have to restart these messages - no problem!
There is the report RSXMB_RESTART_MESSAGES to restart failed messages, but when I defined it as a job (every 1 hr) and during this time we have a lot of messages (but only some are failed), the job never ends and it needs a lot of resources!
In the queues I can see a lot of entries made by the report.
Our report still have the field "max restarts" and I entered 5 restarts!
What can I do?
Thanks a lot!
regards
Wolfgang HummelHi Sandro,
thanx for your answer.
This is a test system and at the moment I just defined jobs for deleting and not for archiving.
My problem is, that we have a sender with thousands of messages via the same interface for the same receiver and sometimes a message failed ('cause of NullPointerException in java mapping).
To define a filter in the report RSXMB_RESTART_MESSAGES is no solution 'cause the filter cannot reduce the number of messages (it's always thousands of messages).
When the job starts during less traffic, I don't have any problems - it's just a problem during heavy traffic.

Need specific version of Report Builder
Hello all,
I'm trying to get a version of Report Builder to match exactly with the version my client has, but I'm not sure where to find it. I have Report Builder 6i (ver. 6.0.8.11.3), and my client says he has ver. 6.0.8.27.0. Is there a patch out there to upgrade mine to match his version? If not, is there any other way to get the same version?
On a related note, what was the last-released version of Report Builder 6i?Problem solved, here's the solution:
I found the patch on metalink.oracle.com

Need help adding a second page on reports builder, paper layout.
Hi,
I have a requirement where I need to create a paper layout using Reports Builder (10.1.2.0.2). This report will print out the following:
1) Invoice
2) VAT Slip (on a separate page)
So far I have created the invoice part and it is printing properly. Now I want to add the Vat slip. When I use the "Trailer Section" on the rdf report, I create a frame and inserted some text. The report ran just fine. Then in the same frame, I added a repeating frame. And now the report is completing with the following error:

Or is there any way I can add a page that has to be printed after the invoice?
Thanks
-NellyIf you have created your own template (but it sounds like you haven't) you will need to 'capture' that page so it repeats on following pages.
The whole process is described here:

Having Problems with connections and access. I have spent the last 2 days reading various threads regarding SQL Reporting Services pertaining to access and connections.
First, let me explain what I have done to date.
1) I am using Windows 7 - Home Premium.
2) I downloaded and installed MS SQL Server 2008 R2 Express. This was successful.
3) I downloaded Report Server 3.0 - This was successful.
4) In IE, I tried logging onto http://servername/reports, but this failed. After logging into IE
via ' Run Administrator', I was able to access URL.
Next, I updated the security / trust sites as explained in the
threads
Next, I went to Folder Setting and added my user name and granted all roles (Browser,
Content Manager, My
Reports, Publisher and Report Builder).
5) Now, I can log into Http://servername/reports using my normal windows 7 user account.
6) Next, I opened Report Builder 3.0. However, I am having trouble connecting to report
server. I tried connecting with
http://servername/reports, but this failed.
However, If I change URL to http://servername/reportserver, it works. BUT NOW, I have
another problem. When I
execute the RUN button to create report, I get a permission
error. "PERMISSION GRANTED TO USER ARE
INSUFFICIENT FOR PERFORMING THIS OPERATION".
7) Finally, I can not save reports to http://servername/reportserver when I select "Recent
Site and Servers". ERROR
MESSAGE: UNABLE TO OPEN OR SAVE REPORT
8) In my Reporting Services Configuration Manager:
Web URL = http://servername:80/ReportServer
Report Manager URL = http://servername:80/reports.
What is strange, the Report Manager URL works for IE URL and WEB URL works for
Report Builder connect (Even though it really does not work).
THREE QUESTIONS:
1) What URL should I use to connect in Report Builder.
2) How do I update my normal Windows 7 user so I can run reports when I connect to report
builder.
3) How can I save my reports so they are displayed in IE Reporting services. Note: I was
able to save report to
documents folder and import into IE Reporting Services.
4) And finally, is it possible to add report builder 3.0 as a tab in my IE Reporting Services. I
save seen samples of Reporting Services screens where the instructor has Report Builder
tab.
Thanks
DanTo answer question 1... it should connect through /ReportServer

Report Builder 3.0 is not a web application, it is a client side application can be used using the click-once or downloaded from Microsoft's website. If you are having issues, you might download and install it and try running it as an administrator. -
Need to build Nicely formatted XLS report from Oracle reports
Hi,
Please let me know if there is any option in developing a formatted XLS report from Oracle reports.
I am using Report Builder 10.1.2.0.2.
Please advice.Hi,
it may help you.
Generating Oracle reports o/p to xls format.
PS -
Hi,
"Report Builder is a report authoring environment for business users who prefer to work in the Microsoft Office environment.
You work with one report at a time. You can modify a published report directly from a report server. You can quickly build a report by adding items from the Report Part Gallery provided by report designers from your organization." - As mentioned
on TechNet.
I wonder how a non-technical business analyst can use Report Builder 3 to create ad-hoc reports/analysis with list of parameters based on other data sets.
Do they need to learn TSQL or how to add and link parameter in Report Builder? then How they can add parameter into a report. Not sure what i am missing from whole idea behind Report builder then?
I have SQL Server 2012 STD and Report Builder 3.0 and want to train non-technical users to create reports as per their need without asking to IT department.
Everything seems simple and working except parameters with list of values e.g. Sales year List, Sales Month List, Gender etc. etc.
So how they can configure parameters based on Other data sets?
Workaround in my mind is to create a report with most of columns and add most frequent parameters based on other data sets and then non-technical user modify that report according to their needs but that way its still restricting users to
a set of defined reports?
I want functionality like "Excel Power view parameters" into report builder which is driven from source data and which is only available Excel 2013 onward which most of people don't have yet.
So how to use Report Builder. Any other thoughts or workaround or guide me the purpose of Report Builder, please let me know.
Many thanks and Kind Regards,
For quick review of new features, try virtual labs: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/aa570323Hi Asam,
If we want to create a parameter depend on another dataset, we can additional create or add the dataset, embedded or shared, that has a query that contains query variables. Then use the option that “Get values from a
query” to get available values. For more details, please see:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd283107.aspx

Reporting with Report Builder 3.0 and SQL Server 2008 R2
Hi everyone
I'm trying really hard to find books about Report Builder 3.0 or SQL Server 2008 R2
I found the following books on the "learn" site, sadly they do not cover Report Builder 3.0 or SQL Server 2008 R2 since there all too old.
Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Analysis Services Step by Step
Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 MDX Step by Step
Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Reporting Services Step by Step
What are good books (like the ones above) for the newest system?Hello wishmasterIN,
Thank you to post your question on TechNet forum.
Based on my experience, the books are always delayed to the new technology, since the author need time to summarize and analyze the new features in the new product or technology, write it down and publish it. If you want to have a quick learning about the
new technology, MSDN library is a good place. It can be a cookbook for you. It contains some detail steps for tools, such as Report Builder or BIDS. It also contains many new features introduction. It is always very useful for you to understand the new features.
In addition, it is based on web and many links make you can jump to the other technical point freely. The most important is all of these is free and all the information will be updated if the new feature is released.
In short, if you want to learn the latest technology about Microsoft product, MSDN is a good choice. I hope my introduction is helpful to you.

Report Builder 3.0 Licensing Questions
I have several questions/clarifications on the licensing and use of Report Builder. Any help you could provide, or other resources I should contact would be much appreciated.
I've looked through the license that is included when installing "SQL Server Report Builder 3 for SQL Server 2014", but need to make sure what we want to do is kosher.
Scenario:
A third party software vendor wants to allow users to create and edit .RDL files within Report Builder. The RDL files will then be saved locally to the users desktop, then uploaded into the third party software product(.NET based, and hosted within the organization's
environment). The data for the report will be generated based on the settings of the RDL file, then the data and RDL file will be passed to the "Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.dll", and a PDF/Excel document will be generated. The user will have
the control to deliver this file anywhere (network share/email/FTP).
The users using the Report Builder, may be employees of either small/medium size businesses, or as large as Fortune 500 businesses. The Organization employing the users, may or may not have a license of SQL Server.
Questions:
1) Does the Organization that owns the third party software, need to own a license of SQL Server? From the License, it appears yes: "If you are licensed to use any one of the following editions of Microsoft SQL Server 2014 software .... you may use this
supplement"
2) Following from #1, if the Organization does not have a license, if they were to purchase a SQL Server license, how many users would a license cover?
What if they purchase a Standard license?
What if they purchase a "Deverloper" License?
I assume the Developer License is for one person, so would only one user be able to use the Report Builder, based on this clause: "You may use this supplement with each validly licensed copy of the software."
2) In the license, it says "You may not: use the supplement for commercial software hosting services.". What does that mean? You can't use it commercially? Or with 'hosting services'? What are 'hosting services'?
3) Can the third party vendor distribute the .MSI file with their software product? Or do the end users need to download it separately, directly from Microsoft?
4) Any restrictions on where the resulting output (PDF/Excel) may be delivered?
5) Are there any restrictions at all on using the "Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.dll", with an RDL file? Restrictions on how much is processed, where the content goes, etc.?
I think that's about it... ThanksPlease try to use:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29072 <Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 Report Builder>.
