I cannot say whether you can get the serial ports configured under Windows 8.1. Here is an article that may be of interest:

    Hello,
My hard drive died, so I need a new serial number to reinstall Lightroom. How do I go about having another serial number emailed to me?
    Thanks!

if you have your serial number then all you need to do is download the Lightroom installer and install the program. Use your existing serial number. If you don't have your serial number, but registered Lightroom with Adobe then you can login to your Adobe account and get the serial number.

  • Missing PCI serial port driver on elitebook 2560p after faulty motherboard replacement

    Hi,
I have the following issue, after a faulty motherboard replacement on my elitebook 2560p with Win XP, I find a question mark in the device manager list reporting that a PCI serial port driver is missing.
Browsing device properties I can read:
PCI serial port - PCI bus 0, device 22, function 3
    and
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C3D&SUBSYS_162B103C&REV_04\3&B1BFB68&0&B3
I've already tried locating driver without success in SP38312, SP45131, SP53918, unzipping the files and trying to locate manually the driver inside the folders with the windows driver update function.
can you help locating the correct driver?
    thanks a lot in advance

  • I have a macbook pro, a little over 2 years old, have been advised I need a new hard drive....after 2 years!!!!

My macbook pro is just over 2 years old....for the last couple of months it has been running very slowly, the beachball is in permanent residence!
I have been advised I need a new hard drive....after only 2 years I'm not at all impressed. Is this normal?

Over a very large sample of drives, these drives are very reliable, despite being moved around inside laptops.
You do not have a very large sample, you have ONE drive. Anything that happens, from having it run for twenty years to having it die on the first day, is within the normal range.
The rapid resolution to your problem IS to replace the drive. At your leisure, you may find that after re-writing every block with Zeroes (a process that can take half a day and has no guarantee of success) enough spare blocks can be found to return the drive to service. Or maybe not. If you are willing to invest the time and energy to do this, you may get a nice backup drive, or you may get a doorstop. No one can predict ahead of time.

  • USB Console (Serial) Driver fails to install on Windows 8.1 x64

The USB console cable driver v3.1 will not install on Windows 8.1 x64.  Had a similar problem with Windows 7 x64 but this was fixed using Greg's (greggar25) excellent step-by-step procedure (see post: https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11492306/usb-console-driver-install-failing).
I am using the driver from this link: http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=282774228&flowid=7442&softwareid=282855122&release=3.1&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest
I followed the same procedures I did for Windows 7 and the install goes without a hitch.  Reboot and connect the USB cable, opened Device Manager and now I have a COM Port randomly appearing and disappearing with its number incrementing well above 1,000.
A few times while it appeared for a few seconds, I was able to right click on the properties, update the driver and chose Cisco Serial and it settled down but it did not assign a COM port.  Then a few seconds later, it starts the disappearing/reappearing thing again.
Anyone have luck getting this to work with Windows 8.1 x64?

     Hi,
open Device Manager by simply typing the words on the Windows 8.1 Start Screen. The Search Charm opens and click Device Manager in the displayed list.
In Device Manager a new hardware category, CiscoUsbConsoleWindowsDriver, is displayed. It has two components: the Cisco Bus enumerator and the Cisco USB to Serial adapter. Expanding the Ports hardware category shows a new Cisco Serial port.
     or
    Look into below
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11492306/usb-console-driver-install-failing
    1) Install the usb console driver\windows 64\setup(x64)
    2) Follow the wizard and accept the defaults
    3) Restart the computer (the installer usually says it needs a restart)
    4) After restarting the computer, plug in the usb cable
    5) The computer should say installing Device driver software and fail at the Cisco Virtual Comm Port00
    6) Click the Windows button, right click computer, manage
    7) Under Computer Management, Click Device Management
    8) Go to Ports (COM & LPT)
    9) You should see the Cisco Virtual Comm Port00 with a Yellow Exclamation point on it
    10) Right Click on the Cisco Virtual Comm Port00 and select Properties
    11) Click the Driver Tab
    12) Click Update Driver
    13) Select Browse my computer for driver software
    14) Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
    15) Choose the Cisco Serial Driver
    16) Device Driver is installed successfully, take note of the com port it is using and enjoy.

  • Do I need a fast system drive if i also have a RAID 0 array for media?

If my video and media files are all on a Fast RAID array then do i need a fast system drive?
Im building a system. The only thing on my system drive will be programs. And I will have a RAID array for my video and PSD files - but my System drive is an older UltraDMA EIDE133 250g Maxtor. This system drive is testing at 51mb/s Read, and 26mb/s write. (According to Blackmagic disk speed check program)
A New SATA drive tests at 53 write and 43 read. So should i bother upgrading my system drive to a RAPTOR 150 or stick with the older EIDE drive? Main Programs i use are Adobe After effects, premiere pro, Photoshop for uncompressed editing with blackmagic intensity.
    Specs:
    MB: Tyan K8WE
    AMD Opteron 270 (dual)
    4GB RAM.
    Nvidia Quadro FX 560
    Apple cinema Display 30'
4x500gb RAID array (2TB total) on Nvidia SATA motherboard controler.

    Jeron,
    Yes, you are probably.
    - Its i either spend $900 dollars or $200.
The best possible Rig is this; I spend $500 dollars on a dedicated PCI-X RAID controller card. I buy a Raptor 150g system drive $200. And then buying another 3 drives to add to the RAID array of 2 disks i already have = $300.
Or option 2: My motherboard (K8WE) has 4 SATA-II ports. So I could set up a 4 disk raid with what i have right now and be achieving 210+ mb/s read and write. My system drive would be off the IDE/133 channel. Then i would only have to spend $200 on 2 disks.
I have been trying to decipher if it is logical to spend that much more money - when it is possible i will only achieve maybe 50 more Megabytes a second. - and have windows and programs start faster.
A part of me says - "any time i try to save money on something it comes with calamity and disaster". vs. a part of me that says - "you could get more bang for your buck".

  • PCIe Serial Card Stopped Working in Yosemite

I have a PCIe serial card in a Mac Pro based on the 16950 that's been working fine up until Yosemite. It's been working with the built-in Apple16x50Serial.kext driver.
With Yosemite, it looks like the driver loads okay, but no serial port appears under /dev/, and no IOBSDSerialClient for the card appears in ioreg either.
This is the same device used in the older XServe's with serial ports.
    Info on my card:
Card: pci1415,9501 Type: Serial Controller Driver Installed: Yes Slot: Slot-3

    Vendor ID: 0x1415
    Device ID: 0x9501
    Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x1415
    Subsystem ID: 0x9501
    Revision ID: 0x0000
    Link Width: x1

Has anyone else encountered this issue or know of a workaround?
    Thanks

Same here, although I can't even enter the shortcuts screen on my iPhone, as the Settings app crashes when I try to view the shortcuts. They are still on and work on the phone, but I can't access them to edit, etc. On the Mac, they neither show up nor work.

  • What do I port serial driver to Intel Solaris8?

How do I port a serial driver from linux to intel solaris8 ?
Because I can't find the serial driver sample, so it is difficult
to make it work in intel solaris8.
Are there someone knows how to handle? or any suggestions?
    Thanks.

That kind of depends. Very old versions of LabVIEW only had one serial driver called serpdrv and several LabVIEW functions that called it. There were some advantages to using these when you built an exe since serpdrv was same and easily included with the exe distribution. Several years ago, a new communication API called VISA was introduced. VISA gave programmers a single driver to communicate with serial, gpib, VXI, ethernet, and now USB instruments. The downside to VISA for built applications was that the installation of the driver was a bit more difficult to include and it required quite a bit more disk space. I've preferred using VISA for quite a long time and since I typically use a mix of serial and gpib, VISA made the most sense to me. Now, in Lab
VIEW 7, VISA is the only supported interface and NI has made the installation easier and the disk requirements smaller. So, if you're looking forward, I would recomend the VISA functions - VISA Write to send data to the serial port, and VISA Read to receive data. The older functions can be found on the I/O Compatability>Serial Compatability palette. LabVIEW 7 has a compability palette as well but they are VISA functions writeen to look like the old ones.

  • 64 bit serial driver with 32 bit VISA causing problems?

I'm running LabView 2012 on Linux (kernel 3.10) on an x86_64 machine. I think that VISA is not playing nicely with my 64-bit serial driver. I have a few instuments connected through an NPort serial to ethernet converter. Instruments which output data constantly (unpolled) are working fine. I'm reading ASCII data from those using both minicom and LabView / VISA with no problem. Instruments which need to be polled for data are not working.
The same software and drivers are working fine on a 32-bit machine in the same lab (although I compiled the NPort serial driver for 32-bit on that machine). All I can think is that 32-bit VISA doesn't like the "bitness" of the 64 bit serial driver, and it's mashing anything I try to write to a serial port. This being the case:
    1) Can I install 64-bit VISA for Linux in conjunction with 32-bit Labview? Would that work?
    2) If I have to go for a 64-bit LabView, do I really need to downgrade my kernel to 2.x as suggested in a hidden NI compatibility document that I now can't find?
    3) Why is Linux such an after-thought with NI?

OK. Panic over. Could be down to differences in control codes that the newer version of the driver is acting on.

  • 64-bit Vista Drivers for PCI Serial device

I've just got an T500 and put Vista 64-bit on it.  I've found (I think) all the drivers for it that it needs, except that there are 2 drivers in the Device Manager that show as not installed/needing update they are:
    Under Other Devices
     - PCI Serial Port
     - PCI Simple Communications Controller
Anyone know what divers I should get to get these loaded properly or what devices/capabilities I am loosing because there are no drivers?
