Need search results Return only Pages

I have a client with the following scenario. He has SharePoint 2013 with a 2010 web application/site collection with custom branding, which means NO visual upgrade.
The requirement is have search only return pages, as this is a public facing site. But how do i do that?
If it was Sp2010 i would use a scope but there is no way to use a scope with 2013.
WIth 2013 i would create a custom query rule but since the site is 2010 mode, the search parts are looking for scopes.
Please Help.
Nando

You can create results sources on Search Service application and that can be used by All site collections in web applications that consume the Search service application.

  • Search Result contains only Pages/Attachments

    Dear All,
    We are using 10g portal. When we search some keywords using simple/custom/advanced search.
    Are there any setting that the result just limit to pages/attachments??
    As if I use "Custom" search, I can only limit to search either "Page only" or "Item" only, which can not fulfill our requirement.
    Pls HELP!!
    Regards,
    Calvin

    In your steps (testcase) do not select the option 'this portlet' under 'Where should the search results be displayed?' for 'My Search Result' page.Let it be the default one - 'Default Search Results Page (Default when displaying a search form)'. This should work.
    Regarding your second question, it is possible to have two search form and two search results associated 1-1 . Follow the same steps as mentioned above.

    Need Adds on to highlight or select several(next) pages in search result on current page?

    Do you mean this: you would select a bunch of links with your mouse, then right-click and choose something like "open all these links in new tabs"?
    There are extensions like that. Here are a few examples, but since I don't use them myself, I don't recommend any particular one. You can check the reviews and try the one(s) that sounds good to you:
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/multi-links/ Multi Links]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/selection-links/ Selection Links]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/SnapLinksPlus/ Snap Links Plus]
    If you already have one of those but it stopped working, make sure you have the latest version. You can check for updates to your extensions here:

  • How to limit the number of search results returned by oracle text

    Hello All,
    I am running an oracle text search which returned the following error to my java program.
    ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:
    DRG-51030: wildcard query expansion resulted in too many terms
    #### ORA-29902: Fehler bei der Ausführung von Routine ODCIIndexStart()
    ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:

    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-29902: Fehler bei der Ausführung von Routine ODCIIndexStart()
    ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:
    DRG-51030: wildcard query expansion resulted in too many terms
    at oracle.jdbc.dbaccess.DBError.throwSqlException(DBError.java:169)
    When i looked up the net, one suggestion that was given is to narrow the wildcard query, which i cannot in my search page. Hence I am left with the only alternative of limiting the number of results returned by oracle text search query.
    Please let me know how to limit the number of search results returned by oracle text so that this error can be avoided.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    If not set explicitly, the default value for WILDCARD_MAXTERMS is 5000. This is set as a wordlist preference. This means that if your wildcard query matches more than 5000 terms the message is returned. Exceeding that would give the user a lot to sift through.
    My suggestion: trap the error and return a meaningful message to the user indicating that the search needs to be refined. Although it is possible to increase the number of terms before hitting maxterms (increase wildcard_maxterms preference value for your wordlist), 5000 records is generally too much for a user to deal with anyway. The search is not a good one since it is not restricting rows adequately. If it happens frequently, get the query log and see the terms that are being searched that generate this message. It may be necessary to add one or more words to a stoplist if they are too generic.
    Example: The word mortgage might be a great search term for a local business directory. It might be a terrible search term for a national directory of mortgage lenders though (since 99% of them have the term in their name). In the case of the national directory, that term would be a candidate for inclusion in the stoplist.
    Also remember that full terms do not need a wildcard. Search for "car %" is not necessary and will give you the error you mentioned. A search for "car" will yield the results you need even if it is only part of a bigger sentence because everything is based on the token. You may already know all of this, but without an example query I figured I'd mention it to be sure.
    As for limiting the results - the best way to do that is to allow the user to limit the results through their query. This will ensure accurate and more meaningful results for them.

  • Verity search results return application.cfm

    We've got a couple of sites using verity collections to
    search cfml, html, and some mime documents. This is generally
    successful. However, we do see coldfusion script-only pages
    returning in the search results, including application.cfm, and
    other cfm pages that do not display content to the end-user. Since
    there is no HTML renderable content in these pages, why do they get
    included in the results?
    How can I control this behavior? I've looked at the verity
    documentation, and am trying to use the mkvdk utility to delete
    application.cfm from the collection documents, but am getting an
    error. If I can get the syntax down correctly, is this the proper
    way of addressing the problem?
    For instance, I am using the command string:
    mkvdk -delete -collection
    C:\CFusionMX\verity\collections\intranet\file application.cfm
    on my local development machine to try and test this, but get
    an error BadKeys: application.cfm
    I don't understand why these types of files get included in
    the collection in the first place. Oh, we are running CFMX6.1.
    Thanks for any help.
    Kris

    The issue is not how to remove all CFM files from the
    collection. We just want CFM files that do not output anything to
    the user to be excluded from the search index. Most of the files in
    this site are CFM files. Most importantly would be application.cfm,
    form action pages, and other included files.
    Certainly we could parse the results for a filename in a
    predefined list, but we are trying to avoid defining this
    programmatically; thinking that it is odd that these files get
    included in the results at all. In the past we have segmented sites
    using .cfm and .cfml as a way of excluding specific files from the
    index (in the collection definition, we would not include the
    specific extension as required). But this site has been in
    production for some time, and is just now adding a search feature.
    We don't want to rename files, and have to recheck every single
    page and link in the entire site.
    Does that explain what we're trying to do better?
    Cheers,
    Kris

  • Search result persisted on page

    Hi,
    i have created one search page for searching according to given criteria.
    on this page user can select the criteria and perform the search.
    all the functionality is currentely works fine.
    but, i have one problem..
    when i navigate on another pages in my application and come back on search page by clicking the link of search page.
    it displays me the criteria and search result which user searched last.
    why this is done ???
    instead of this i require a fresh search page with no criteria and no any search result.
    how do i achive this ??
    please help...

    hi yshintre,
    Sorry I was away few days. Did you solve your problem?
    >as you mentioned in your example getServiceVo()... actually what is that ?
    This is only a sample code. Here "getServiceVo()" is the method to access my Service VO in the AMImpl. When you add a VO in your AM (under the Data Model), you can find auto generated methods in the AMImpl class to access that VO instance.
    how could i get the object of ViewObjectImpl ?
    how can i access my VO in my Bean ?"ViewObjectImpl" is available in your AMImpl class.
    Off-cause you can access VO in the bean but best way here is to write your reset method in AMImpl and call from your Bean through bindings.
    Thanks,
    Prasad.

  • Showing search results in multiple pages

    Hi,
    i want some logic for following requirement..I have a jsp page in that i will enter empno,empdept..and i will click on search button..when user clicks on search we will get some search results..i want to display these results based on maximum rowsize mentioned bye the use..if he selects 10..it should display 10 per page and a next button like java forum..if he clicks on next it should display the next results.like wise untill endof resultset..and these results should be displayed on the same page og jsp.
    plz give me some logic for these req..
    regards,
    sam

    This has been asked several times in the past couple of months. Search for "Paging" on these forums. Example:
    JSTL or plain Java - http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=45&thread=539250
    Struts - http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?thread=536490&forum=45
    And others suggest grabbing only the number of records from the DB that you will display.

  • Dynamic Search/Results on same page - HELP!

    Here is my situation; any help will be GREATLY
    appreciated!!!!!
    - I have dynamic content using PHP/MySQL
    - I am attempting to create a record insertion page
    - within this page, I need the ability to querry the
    database and display the results on the same page and then use the
    results as a part of the record insertion/creation.
    So - I have many students, who are assigned a unique student
    number and I am creating a reservation system. The person entering
    the reservation will enter in the student id (as opposed to their
    name) and hit a 'find' button and the result, if found, will be
    displayed in a dynamic text field. Then, they fill out the rest of
    the info and submit the reservation which gets stored into the
    database.
    I have played around for a few hours now because I have no
    idea how to do this and have just been using trial and error. Can
    anyone PLEASE point me in the right direction?
    Thanks a bunch!!!
    Mav

    I agree, this approach does not seem secure.
    Seems like I could keep trying different ID's until I found
    one and then
    enter reservations under someone else's name and cause havoc
    on the system.

  • How to Highlight google search results in web pages??

    I try to find out why it isn't possible to get safari to highlight the search words in the webpages that are found after using the build in google search box.
    I spend a lot of time working trough the pages where the words are that I want to find in those (sometimes long) texts
    Does anybody have a solution that works automatically?
    I am trying "sitehilite" but that requires to enter the searcht words again... Double work...

  • Jump directly to search-result details if only one (1) hit

    I have a report where the user can limit the number of records shown via a couple of text fields. (do a search so to speak)
    In the report the user can click a link and see details for the given record.
    My customer would like the users to be taken directly to the details if the users search results in only one record.
    Has anyone done something similar ?
    best regards
    Christian

    This would be a way to do it:
    Say you have three pages:
    Page 1 - Search page (where you enter your search criteria and click a "Search" button)
    Page 2 - Search results page (lists multiple found records and has drill-down links to view details of any particular record)
    Page 3 - Record details page (shows details for just one record. This would be the page you are taken to when you drill down into a particular record from Page 2.)
    On Page 1 have an After Submit PL/SQL Process looking something like this:
    DECLARE
    recordCount number;
    uniqueRecordId number;
    BEGIN
    select count(*) into recordCount from your_table where some_column = :P1_YOUR_SEARCH_CRITERIA_ITEM and some_other_column = :P1_YOUR_SECOND_SEARCH_CRITERIA_ITEM);
    if recordCount = 1 then
    select ID into uniqueRecordId from your_table where some_column = :P1_YOUR_SEARCH_CRITERIA_ITEM and some_other_column = :P1_YOUR_SECOND_SEARCH_CRITERIA_ITEM;
    owa_util.redirect_url('f?p='||:APP_ID||':3:'||:APP_SESSION||'::::P3_ID:'||uniqueRecordId);
    else
    owa_util.redirect_url('f?p='||:APP_ID||':2:'||:APP_SESSION);
    end if;
    END;
    So if only one record is matched then you are automatically taken to Page 3 where the details of this one record can be shown (and you know which record to display as its ID has been passed in :P3_ID.) If more than one record (or zero records) are returned then you are taken to the search results page (Page 2) where your search results can be displayed as normal.
    Hope that's of some help,
    Andrew

    Hi,
    Two possible reasons:
    1. The size of the search results returned would have been controlled by the directory services administrator (Cross- check with the dir. services administrative options.
    2. Have you set the size limit programatically... using SearchControls.setSizeLimit(...) you should be using
    SearchControls.setSizeLimit(0) which returns all the results.

  • How to display the search result without reloading the whole page

    HI,
    I have separate fragments for Search Box to enter keyword and Search Result to display the result. Also I have different sections within the page to put these fragments. So how could I display the results without reloading the whole page.
    Also if I have next button in my search result area, how could I display the search results in next page without reloading all other sections present in our page. Please let me know if any service or idoc function present such that result could be shown in search result section without reloading whole page.
    Please let me know how to restrict page reload for every action within a page.

    This is default behaviour of the template of your space. You can create a new page template and than you can create a region for the search results.
    Or you can create a custom taskflow were you use the webcenter taskflows to search for the space.
    Take a look at this white paper:
    Extending webcenter spaces: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/webcenter/pdf/owcs_r11_extend_spaces_wp.pdf
    and this one:

  • Setting Custom Master page in search results page - Publishing site

    Hi,
    I have a publishing site, in which i have a custom Master page.
    However when doing the search in the site, the search results does not show the custom Master page.
    Is it possible to set the custom created Master page for the search results page? How to achieve this?
    Thanks

    Hi Venkat,
    The search page for a publishing site is a file available in the layouts folder (I believe it is the osssearchresults.aspx if you see the address bar). It is used by all web applications and site collections in your farm. So ideally you should not change
    it. I mean you can change it to point to your master page but it is bad practice ..
    I would instead do the following
    1. Create a custom search results web part page and place it in the site collection itself (one of the document libraries)
    2. Custom search results is not difficult because all search results pages are made of a set of Out of the box search results web parts. If you add the same webparts to your page as the default search results page, you have effectively created a copy of
    it
    3. go to site settings --> search settings and change the search results page to your newly created page
    4. The newly created page by virtue of its location will automatically use the master page the rest of the site uses.
    I could not spend the time to try the above for you but I am sure the above will work.
