Need simple instructions to move .jpeg file to usb memory stick

Firstly, is a USB stick called a remote disk in Apple talk language?
In finder I see devices and remote disk.  I try to move a .jpeg file to that (while assuming it is the USB stick that I stuck in the back panel of the iMAC) but nothing seems to happen.  I can't see anything.  There are no files there and if I click nearby in the left panel it keeps wanting to close or hide.
All I want to do is move one .jpeg file to a USB stick then bring that stick to a professional printer asap.
Hope that someone can help.

A Flashdrive (USB stick) or Memory Card icon looks like white square box on both the Desktop and in Finder Devices. In Finder you will also see an Eject button just to the left of the Flashdrives icon. Yours may not have a name like my example, because I name mine to make it easier to keep track of them.
To move images to the Flashdrive, you should be able to simply drag and drop then to either the Desktop or Finder icon.
To check and see if the images have copied to the Flashdrive simply highlight the Flashdrive on the sidebar.
Lastly always Eject External Drives and Flashdrives before disconnecting or unplugging them.
Additionally if you get an error or can not write to the device message, then the Flashdrive is probably formatted for Windows.
Hope this helps you out.

Have you tried simply dragging the file from one stick to the other? Do you know the format of the memory sticks (Macs can't write to those formatted as NTFS without the use of third-party software)?

  • Need simple instructions on transfering photos from Samsung Gusto phone to computer.

Need simple instructions on transferring photos from Samsung Gusto phone to my PC.

smcolvin, happy to help with getting those pictures transferred. As the Samsung Gusto does not have the mass storage functionality, this requires a out of the box solution. You can send the pictures as a picture message and place your email address in the "to" field. Open your email inbox on your computer, open the messages and then download the images to the computer (usually right click and "save as").
Alternatively, you can send the pictures to the online album and access them there. To send to the online album from your phone, press the left soft key. Message>New Message>Picture message. At the "New Picture Msg" screen, press the Right Soft Key and add "To Online Album." Select "Send." On your computer launch your web browser and log into MyVerizon at verizonwireless.com and then go to vzwpix.com .

  • When i download my pictures to a usb memory stick in jpeg format other computers cannot open them can someone help me to sort this please thanks from a new iMac user

when i download my pictures (in jpeg format) to a usb memory stick they cannot be opened on another computer ie not a mac, do i need to convert the file so that other computers can read it thanks Sam

    Sam,
Format your stick with MS-DOS (FAT32) format. I use camera CF cards as memory stick and a good practice is to regularly format them: it deals with defragmentation effectively.
JPG is a standard, regardless of which application writes it and is readable by all applications supporting JPG.
Make sure you properly eject your usb stick when you take the it out of the usb port: it makes sure the OS closes all open files.

  • How to I transfer a photo file to a memory stick

How to I transfer a photo file to a memory stick so that I can use the USB in a photo frame?

First the USB stick needs to be formatted in a format the frame can see. That is usually FAT32, the Windows and mostly Universal format (It probably already is formatted like that).
Next is what photo cataloging and editing program are you using? If it is iPhoto you need to Export the image or images you want to place on that card/stick. Not sure how that is done exactly as I don't use iPhoto but it is one of the menu item options (Could be under the File menu item).
Then during the export it should ask you where you want to exprt them TO. you would browse to the USB stick and select it. If it Auto places them on your dekstop then use Finder to coy and paste them from your desktop to the USB stick. Or you can try Drag & Drop (I personally never use that as I've never like it) from the Desktop to the USB stick.

  • How to delete locked files on flash memory stick

Several files on my memory stick have somehow become locked and cannot be deleted. When I unlock them in their Info window and then close the window, they revert to locked status. How can I delete these files?
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

When I unlock them in their Info window and then close the window, they revert to locked status.
This suggests that the items have the schg flag set; it is possible to turn the flag off, but if there's little or nothing else you want on the drive, you're better off by copying the remaining items if any to your hard disk and then reformatting the flash drive in the Disk Utility, which is in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder. If you still want to clear the flag, follow the instructions for your version of Mac OS X on this page.

  • Files left on USB memory stick when removed

I'm totally new to Apple laptops.  Moments ago I put a PowerPoint file on a new (blank) USB memory stick using my PC, and copied the file to my MacBook Air via its USB port.  When I removed the memory stick and plugged it back into my PC, the original PowerPoint file was still there as I expected, but there were also some odd folders and files: e.g., .Spotlight-V100, .Trashes and ._.Trashes.  What are these?  Why are they there?  Do I need them for any reason?

    Have a read here http://www.ghacks.net/2009/08/19/spotlight-v100-and-trashes-folders-on-usb-flash -drives/
OSX "needs" them but not in a way that you cannot delete them from your PC.

  • How do I download documents/files from a memory stick onto my MacBook Pro into organised folders

How do I download documents/files from a memory stick on to my MacBook Pro and organise in to Folders?

    Hi RockingRon,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The Finder application on your Mac is what you need to organize and manage files.  The link below will explain how to use it.  See item #8 - your memory stick will appear in the Devices section of the Sidebar on the left.
    Mac Basics: The Finder
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2470
Mac Basics: Applications, files, and folders (OS X Lion)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2476
    Organizing files and folders
If you want to add more folders to set up an organizational scheme, here's how to create a new folder:
Make the Finder active (click the desktop, click inside any Finder window, or click the Finder icon in the Dock).
From the File menu, choose New Folder; a new "untitled folder" icon appears in the active Finder window.
Name your folder by simply typing a name in the highlighted text box next to the folder icon.
Or, you can simply press the Shift-Command-N key combination.
To organize your files and folders, drag any file, folder, or application that you want into your new folder, or drag the folder into any other folder to establish an organized hierarchy.
    Cheers,
    - Judy

  • I'm new to apple after years of MS OS! How do I transfer files from my USB memory stick to another USB memory stick? cheers

hi all, i've just switched to apple after many years using MS OS!  I'm now using iMac desktop 21.5" with 2.9GHz processor and latest Yosemite software.
How do I transfer files from one USB memory stick to another USB memory stick on the iMac?  cheers, linley94

Plug in the memory stick and it should open then create a New Folder and drag and drop the contents from the memory stick to the new folder you created. Remove the original memory stick all the information should be in the new folder you created. Now plug in the new memory stick with nothing on it when it opens drag the folder with the contents from the original memory stick folder and all into the new memory stick that opened and there you have it.

  • Files saved on memory stick on pc show as original file name followed by .XML and i cannot open why

files saved on memory stick on pc show as original file name followed by .XML for example tester.doc.XML, is there any reason?  I cant open these on mac, if i put it back in PC is shows file as normal without .XML.  Confused.com any ideas.

I have files on my work laptop (PC) e.g. document1.doc (word document), I then save it to my memory stick (which i have reformatted, I also tried my external disk drive) and then take that to my macbook, plug it in and in finder it then shows as document1.doc.XML, which i cannot open.  It happens to all types of files, it just seems to add .XML on the end of everything.

  • Trying to copy a 10gb file to a memory stick but theres an error msg file to large for the file format of the stick. is there a way around this

trying to copy a 10gb file to a memory stick but there's an error msg, file to large for the file format of the stick. is there a way around this

If you use 'Disc Utility' you can format the stick (this will erase its contents) to be exFat which will still work with Mac and Windows but allow a larger file sizes to be placed onto the stick.
Disc Utility > Click the drive on the left > Erase (tab) > Change format to ExFat > Erase > Try putting the file on to the stick again.

  • Rescue and Recovery tool - problem with recovering files stored on USB memory stick

I recently had to use the Lenovo Care Rescue and Recovery tool to restore my 300 N200 to a previously backed up state.
As part of the Rescue and Recovery I selected the option to save user data in My Documents to a USB memory stick before restoring to the backup. This seemed to be successful (tool confirmed that 300MB of files were saved). But when I wanted to restore the files from the USB memory stick back to the laptop none of the folders/files is visible.
I checked the memory status of the USB memory stick and this confirms that 300MB space is taken up - but no files visible!!!
    Can anyone help??

  • Need simple instructions to connect my piano to my mac using usb midi

I purchased a midi in/out usb connection for my Yamaha piano (clavinova clp120) and GB sees a midi device connected (in preferences) but I cant figure out how to use it...
I need simple step by step help.
    Thanks!

ok, Let me get this correct...
Your piano is already hooked up to the mac via USB and Garage band sees it? correct?
Alright, now, when garageband starts it usually loads the profile for a grand piano or you can select "New Project" > "Piano". If everything goes well you should be able to select the "grand piano" profile and hit record, then you should be able to start playing , do you hear any sound??
If you want to use the LTP lessons then have your piano plugged in and start a lesson. As soon as it loads try hitting a key, do you hear anything??

  • No Movie in file-Out of memory errors!

I can't open my file! or related autosave files!
    I get :
"no movie in file" and "error: out of memory"
    please help!

I have had a similar kind of message when I've had a file passed between soundtrack or live type back to FCP that has become corrupt. If you are getting a name of a particular file that has no movie, you might want to try deleting it - that may give you an offline message, and it should then allow the project file to open.
