Need some direction, Please.

I have an Oracle 10gR2 database and I would like to use something like "Discoverer" to allow my end users to interact with the data, however:
The last Discoverer product I worked with was 9i. It was client based. I would like this to be browser based. From what I read I should be looking as "Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Plus". This seem to have what I want but I have no idea what needs to be done to get it running. All the stuff I am reading leads me to believe that installing it may be a career in its self.
Any guidance would be great!

Sorry everyone - the computer name must be in lowercase not uppercase as in my previous posting. Here is what Oracle said:
Some App Server components will not function properly with uppercase hostnames. I am seeing lowercase in some config files and uppercase in others. This is likely causing the unknown host error in the DCM command.
Ok, on Windows machines you will find the HOSTS file under c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc. It's a straightforward text file which can be edited by any suitable text editor: notepad, wordpad and so on.
A typical entry inside there looks like this:
192.168.2.13 myserver.learndiscoverer.com myserver
What you are doing is associating an IP address with a fully qualified domain name and a short name. You don't need to worry about upper or lowercase in this file because Windows doesn't care. There is no need to reboot the computer after making a change to the HOSTS file as it is dynamic and its changed will be picked up instantly upon saving. How about that for a configuration file?
However, Oracle does care about whether the name is in uppercase or not, at least for upgrading to 10.1.2.2 anyway. I had the dickens of a job upgrading one of my Windows machines because I had used all uppercase characters for the machine name. Of course, none of the Microsoft sotware cares one way or the other, so why this is important to Oracle - well honestly it has to be one of those unwanted, undocumented features that all software has from time to time (a bug to you and me). By the way, you don't put the name in lowercase in the HOSTS file. For Oracle's use you do this using Start | Settings | Control Panel | System | Computer Name | Change.
To answer the other question in this thread, this is the patch number for 10.1.2.2. 4960210
Another issue which was answered by Oracle contains the staging location for the install of the software. I placed by downloaded and unzipped installation routines onto my Desktop. Nope - cannot do that either. Here is what Oracle said:
C:\Documents and Settings\Michael\Desktop\10.1.2.2......etc.
There are known issues when the staging area has spaces in it..(Documents and Settings)
Stage the software again in a location where there are no spaces in the directory names.... file

    I got my artwork and saved it to my Desktop
    Opened up Microsoft Paint and clicked on "File" and "Open" and found it to get it on the screen to resize it
    Clicked "resize" and a box for changing it opened up
    Checked the box "Pixels" and "Unchecked maintain aspect ratio"
    Set Horizontal for 640 and Vertical for 480
    Clicked on "OK" and went back to "File" and did a "Save As" and chose JPEG Picture
    It came up "File Already Existed" and clicked "OK" (really did not care about the original artwork I found because wrong size)
    Went to iTunes and on the movie right clicked on "Get Info", clicked on "Details", then "Artwork"
    Go to the little box on the top left that shows your old artwork and click on it to get the little blue border to appear around it and hit "Delete" to make it gone
    Click on "Add Artwork" and find it where you put the one from above on your Desktop and hit "Open" and OK and your new artwork is now there and all good.
    Sounds like a lot of steps to follow but after around 5 or so you will fly through it. This worked perfect on my iPhone 6 Plus and I have artwork on my Home Videos now.

    Although vlc mentioned above is a much more powerful and better player you could try installing Perian if you insist on using the quicktime player.  It may supply the codec it needs.
    Not sure why you wouldn't be able to play straight avi files though in quicktime.

  • New to SAP, need some direction

    Hi everyone, pretty much as the title states, I'm brand new to SAP and I need some direction as to what's the best way to start learning it.
    To make my long story short, the company I work for was going to transition from a home-grown Sybase application to SAP Business One. 9 months and $150k later, they decide SAP sucks. Which upsets me because there's about 20 pages of SAP related stuff on all the job hunting sites and I'm always looking to "broaden my horizons" or something like that.
    So now that no one using SAP... I want to start taking it apart and learning how it works. I just have no idea where to begin. I looked at the FAQs and all, but I don't think I'm even at that point yet.
    So how can someone completely new to SAP get started?

  • HD Workflow - Need Some Clarification Please

    Apologies for asking another question so soon, but I need some help with my import/export workflow please.
    So I've just upgraded to AE CS4 from 6.5 Pro.
    I'm doing a show where I'm using XDCAM EX footage with cgi shots and elements, all comped in AE.  The shots will be handed to the editor, who uses FCP, as Quicktime files, I think.  This is where I need some help.
    I have read and re-read (several times)  the 'Color Management Workflow in Adobe After Effects CS4' pdf, specifically the 'High Definition Video Workflow' section. I am using a calibrated monitor (regularly calibrated and checked with a Spyder 3 Elite).
    I get setting up the AE project to be colour managed to the HDTV (Rec. 709) working space, and I likewise understand using Interpret Footage to colour manage assets that are imported.
    Where I'm falling down is outputting the finished shots to QT movies, specifically on two points: the apparent gamma of the output (as I see it in the QT Player), and the data-rate.
    I understand setting the output to have the same profile in the Output Module of the Render Queue.  But from there I'm stumped, because the QT outputs don't visually match the AE comp, with almost any codec I try.  I understand there are QT codec issues when outputting from AE - I was reading about those the other day when I was hitting the same problem in AE 6.5.  When I open the QT movie on the desktop (Windows XP Pro) it's invariably alot lighter, lower contrast.  Along with the other issue that the data-rate of the QT output from AE is anything up to 8 times greater than I need.
    I tried rendering Animation and PNG movies from AE, then feeding those through the Media Encoder, outputting via H.264 to get an MP4 with the data-rate around 50mbits/sec.  That works on that, but again the movie is pretty washed out and low contrast.
    I guess this is pretty fundamental stuff, but I've hit a brick wall over what to do.  I'd appreciate any advice on the workflow to output the finished comps to hand to the editor, as a movie file, QT or whatever.  And obviously knowing that what I see in my AE comp is what he will see on his FCP suite.

    In terms of profile, as I mentioned, the intermediates will be going off to the editor (off-site) for editing on his FCP suite.  I'll stick to working in the prescribed HDTV (Rec. 709) space, and I've given him all the detail I can of how I'm working, but crucially I haven't stood at his edit-suite to see how the stuff looks.
    But, he's no newbie, so I'm hoping it'll be OK.
    Blasted shame about the H.264 BluRay not being compatible with QT - I thought I had this whole issue beat until that came along.  It's not a matter of disk space here, but the editor is mithering that the intermediates we are testing, in either PNG, or Animation, and a couple of others, are choking his playback.
    I'm not sure what to say about that, other than to go down this road of trying to squish these intermediates as low as possible without wrecking the look, hence finding that the DNxHD is providing the best solution.  If it had been a SD project, I might well have tried the native H.264, even over our normal PNG workflow.
    So what will play the native H.264 BluRay compressed output?

    I still have GB 2 so I don't know about GB's podcasting abilities (though some of the questions I see here suggest it's not all that wonderful).
    I use, and would recommend, Podcast Maker:

    You make your podcast using GB or whatever program you want, and save it as an MP3 file. You then open it in Podcast Maker and add the summary and description fields, and if you want it to be an enhanced podcast you add chapters and the artwork. It will then upload it to your iDisk or the server of your choice, create the XML file, and ping the Apple Store if required. All this is seamless and easy to use.

  • Making a picture slideshow to watch on my dvd..need some help please =)

    I'm trying to gather pictures and make a simple slideshow with just one menu. Where as I would put the the dvd in the dvd player, a menu will come up, I press play, and then the dvd slideshow starts to play. I'm only putting a few pictures that would fit with one song. I've tried so many times creating a new project and the Magic idvd option. Somehow I get lost when it comes to the Drop zones. It would say there are 2 menus. I've searched the internet and I can't seem to still understand! So confused!! I hope someone can give me some direction!! Thanks!!

  • I am new to LR and needs some advice please

    I have been using Raw shooter and have been shy of going over to LR.I am not a hugely knowledgeable user nor that technically minded. I purchased Scott Kelbys, and Martin Evenings book on LR and am learning as I go, I have been reading several threads on this site and I am concerned about all the negativity I am reading about LR being buggy, with problems?
    and how it seems that Adobe are not doing enough with LR to address any such issues? I am a canon user and issues relating to Canon raw are a particular worry. I am about to put my entire collection from Raw shooter ( On External LAcie drives) into the hands of LR in the future. Is this a wise decision? Please help.
    Also I want to get started if it is the right thing to do, my PC is getting on abit, with 4 yr old tech inside and only 1gb ram. I will soon get somthing more powerful with 2-4 gb ram. my second question is this. I will be running my libraries on external drives only ( LAcie F.A. Porsche).
    If I have imported my images without moving folders, with LR 1.2 loaded on my pc. If later I remove LR from it and reload onto a new PC will it see all my libraries again and know all my settings again without issue and without having to re-do everything. If that is the case then I had better wait until i upgrade the Pc, before I start any work with LR, which will be frustrating.??

    LR is not buggy and it converts Canon RAW files just fine. I run LR on a PC without any significant issues except speed. LR is too slow in some areas (importing images, browsing thumbs and previews, in particular) compared to other programs such as Photo Mechanic and ACDSee, but it is very stable on a clean computer. Many features need improvement but hopefully that will come in time. Meantime LR is quite good and I bet you will like it. There is nothing better overall.
    You should never risk your images to any software or anything else. Keep a backup copy of your originals separate from the copy you use for LR or other software. Plus LR is a non-destructive editor (pixels are not changed) so your images will be quite safe.
    As Tomrock said you can transfer your database to a new computer without difficulty. I do recommend a new computer, a 4 year old machine with 1gb RAM will probably be frustrating. Other folks say that a quad core processor and at least 2GB RAM is the way to go. My 2 year old dual core Pentium with 4GB RAM is definitely too slow for LR. You might also consider switching to internal hard drives in your new computer and use your external drives for backups. Internal drives for your images and catalog file will be much faster.
    Also Tom's advice about importing a few images at a time and then testing how things work is very good. It is definitely a mistake to import a huge volume of images until your are familiar with LR. It is very easy to delete a small catalog file and start over since a few hundred images imports quickly.

Could someone explain to me what could have cause it and if it is covered by my extended warrenty. I also  wants to know if it is covered by the warrenty if Toshiba allows me to take it to a local repair shop that is not their as i am in the caribbean and none of their repair centres are close to my island.

  • MacBook Pro Running slow, need some tips please.

    Hi all, been a while since I've been in the forums. I have a year and a half old MBP, 2.16ghz w/ 2GB ram. As the months roll by, it seems as if its performance has gone downhill. I think it might be a few factors: 1, about a year ago I ran VMware fusion (beta) to run XP, when i removed it, I dont think I got rid of everything, always seemed slower since then. 2, about 6 months ago I installed a 1GB of ram myself, my mac recognizes it, but I swear it goes slower than before. Now I may just be paranoid, but better safe than sorry. Are there any good, (cheap or free), utilities or programs to clean up and speed up my mac? Or, anything I can do myself? I dont want to take it in to someone. Thanks guys and gals.

    Use Spotlight to search for straggler files.
    AppZapper, CleanApp & Hazel are programs that do all the work for you. Hazel & CleanApp gets rid of all straggler files. I only keep AppZapper around because I like the zapping noise it makes.
    AppDelete. Best of all this software is free!

    Max out your RAM.
    Empty the trash!
    Open up your application folder & go through all your apps. Trash all the apps you no longer want and/or use.
    An easier way to do this is to open the Application folder in list view & press the Command+j keys.
    In the the dialog that appears, click the "This Window Only" button & the "Calculate All Sizes" check box.
    Wait a bit until your file & folder sizes have all been calculated, then click the "Size" column to sort your apps from the fattest to the most anorexic.
    Get rid of all your photo files you don't want and/or need. Same goes for those pics off the websites you downloaded (gifs, jpegs, etc.).
    I'm old fashion. I still keep my photos in a photo album. So when people come over my house, they can actually "touch" & "feel" my photos without me running to my computer to "show my photos".
    Get rid of all your music files you no longer listen too. Especially, if you already have the actual CDs and/or DVDs or you can later redownload from a website.
    Use Spotlight to make sure you got rid of everything. You can even trash directly from Spotlight!
    Drag what you don't want and/or need to the trash. Better yet, download this neat little shareware app demo called AppZapper. It basically does all the work for you by not only trashing the apps but the apps preference files, caches & all its associated files.
    Another software that does the above is AppDelete. Best of all this software is free!
    Burn what you want and/or need onto CDs or DVDs.
    Not everyone has the luxury of purchasing an external HD and/or a .Mac account to store their "stuff, junk, music & photos".
    You can check with your ISP to see if they offer free storage space. Most if not all do now-a-days. I store all 5000+ of my music (mp3s) files & 500+ music videos in my ISP storage bin.
    There are thousands if not millions of free storage facilities on the web also. Use your favorite search engine, Google &/or MacGoogle to search them out as they come in different storage sizes to fit your needs & wants.
    Check for duplicate fonts.
    Applications>Font Book
    Select “All Fonts”
    If you see any “black dots” next to any fonts this mean you have duplicates and/or multiple versions of these fonts.
    To clean this up, select a “black dotted” font or the Apple + click to select multiple dotted fonts;
    Edit>Resolve>Duplicates.
    What the above does is turns off the duplicates & multiple version fonts. Not delete them.
    More than likely the “extras” were installed by other programs and/or other users.
    Clear out font caches
    Use FontNuke. It does all the work for you. And, best of all it’s FREE.
    Printer Drivers
    Get rid of all the printer drivers you don’t need & use except the ones for your current printer(s)/scanner(s).
    HD>Library>Printers Folder
    If you accidently threw something out that you needed for your printer/scanner it can be easily obtained from the manufacturer’s website and/or from the CD that came w/the printer/scanner.
    Garage Band
    Has about 1GB of loops stored. Get rid of some some them. You surely don’t use, like and/or need them all.
    HD>Library>Audio/Apple Loops>Apple>Apple Loops For GarageBand
    Or just get rid of the Garage Band app altogether if you don’t use it.
    Get rid of extra languages
    Strip your computer down to your “native” tongue.
    You can do this with a FREE utility called Monolingual. Another app that apparently does all the work for you. I’ve never used it. However, a lot of users here swear by & recommend it highly.
    However, there is a warning for *native English speakers*. Make sure you keep BOTH English and English (United States).

    So I've been trying to track this dow myself, and I understand what the error means and what needs to be done.

    So I know that I have a field that has too many characters.
    But what I haven't been able to track down (I've been researching this since 8AM).
    How do I find out where it's actually failing? That line 439 of the procedure is the following:

    Here is the actual proc. From what I understand of that last statement, this should be correct. ALL values are set at the beginning. Therefore the cursor select should pull the proper values, and then pass it to the fetch. What you said about the 'TYPE'...I can't answer.

  • Need some direction

    Can someone point me in the right direction as to what type
    of code I should try using? I need to add up some totals from
    different tables in the database.
    I have the following table structure, they have a lot more
    fields but I will add the important ones:
    Table: associates
    Fields: id, assoc_id, initials, hourlyrate
    Table: caseactivity
    Fields: id, assoc_id, descripofservice, initials, hoursworked
    I am outputing all of my data from "caseactivity", but at the
    bottom of that I need to find a way to total up the hoursworked and
    get a total cost for the hours worked based on the initials of the
    person that entered the info. There will be different hourlyrate's
    I need to pull from the associates table. So I'm not sure how to
    add up. Any help in the right direction would be appreciated.

  • Need some direction on FW Redundancy and opening ports

    I would appreciate any advice on the current ways of connecting 2 Firewalls directly for redundancy and also the best practice for allowing data through the firewall. Do firewalls have a stacking technology similar to StackWise or FlexStack? I need to allow specific ports through my network into another private network. Although this won't be connected to the internet the same type of security as if it were, is important. Sorry if this is a generic question but what methods would be best for allowing data to and from through my network firewall? I would grealty appreciate any sample configurations (I don't plan on configuring zones) or documentation on the current way of allowing these functions. Thanks for your help!

    There are 2 different options to my knowledge to have firewall redundancy with Cisco firewalls.
    The most common one is Active/Standby Failover which you have 2 identical (hardware & software) Cisco firewalls connected by a Failover link. One of the the firewalls is the Active unit and handles traffic while the other unit is Standby monitoring the state of the Active device (and vice versa). When the Active unit fails the Standby unit will take the Active role.
    Another option is Active/Active which basically means that you would be running multiple virtual Firewalls inside the actual hardware firewall. Some virtual firewalls would be Active on hardware unit 1 and some virtual firewalls would be Active unit would be Active on hardware unit 2. Hence the term Active/Active, both firewalls would be handling traffic.

    The second and new option is Cluster setup where you essentially combine multiple identical firewalls together. This is a subject though that I have not gotten to test myself so my knowledge is very limited. Though to my understanding this is available only with high end ASA5585-X units so it might not be an option for most.

    So most likely you will be using Active/Standby Failover with 2 identical Cisco firewalls.
    Their configuration format compared to a standalone firewall doesnt differ much.
    You will configure a "standby" IP address also on the ASA that will be the IP address that the Standby unit uses
    You will configure the actual Failover interface
    You will configure general Failover related settings
    You can tune the Failover settings and define which interfaces are monitored (and can effect the Failover) and set some other additional parameters
    So there is not that much to configure compared to the standalone Cisco firewall setup.
    Your post seems to indicate that this firewall or firewall pair would be used for Internal network usage. I mean a firewall between 2 LAN/DMZ networks. This would in turn mean that unless you specifically need NAT between these network segments, you could actually leave the NAT configuration of the firewall completely blank and only configure the Routing&Firewalling related settings.
    How you would configure access between the 2 different network segments would naturally depend on your own setup.
    From what I understood from your above post it would seem to me that you should configure ACLs on both interfaces connected to their own network segments. These ACLs would be configured in Inbound direction (which would control traffic heading towards the firewall from that segment and into the other segment). You could then configure both ACLs in the manner that ONLY the required source/destination IP addresses/networks/ports are allowed and all other traffic is blocked.
    I am not really sure what kind of example configuration we could give you as we dont really know what the whole setup is going to be.
