Need some information, i'm returning from AMD

hi all,
I've been with AMD now for about 2 years, but since the prices have dropped, i wish to return to the true master...
i have a couple of questions needing answers
1) why can i not find a mobo with AGP x8 as AMD mobos do have it?
2) why can't I find one that supports DDR400?
3) not having DDr400 will this reduce the systems performance, or is the bandwidth from the CPU only big enough for DDR333?
4) is there much of a difference between AGP x4, and x8?
5) can get a board with these missing features?

DDR400 and AGPx8 are chipset limitations, not bios limitations.
The Athlon has an FSB of 266MHz , the P4 FSB of 533MHz.
As a rule there is no use for the emory running above the FSB speed and memory running below the FSB will create a bottleneck.
So the XP2400 still has an effective memory bandwidth of 2100MB/s even with DDR400. There might be some 5% increase in preformance but no more.
The P4 has an effective memory bandwidth of 2700MB/S with this chipset/memory setup.
It is well known that an Athlon can in some instances outpreform a P4 even with it's lower FSB and clock speed so as you have probobly heared many times MHz isn't a good measure.
So ultimately it depends what you do with the computer:
-Gaming: doesn't matter as the VGA card and memory are more important
-Integer/SSE2/video editing or 3D modeling: P4 due to stronger integer units.
-FPU/video compression/3D rendering: AMD due to more FPU units.
On the upgradabilty side:
The i845PE supports hyperthreading meaning it will support all Northwood P4's and reportedly even the Prescott.
The KT400 will support it seems all AMD socketA CPUs including Bartoon with it's 512K cache and 333MHz FSB.
tough call...
I guess the AGPx8 tips it in favore of the KT400.
My opinions:
1.If you want intel wait for the Granite bay.
2.If you want AMD wait for nFORCE2.

The feed is analog from pal STB cable or satellite.

I am working on a similar project.
Actually, i can encode 2 streams in h.264 with a resolution around 640X480 on a Intel Xeon E3120 (2 core) 3.16 GHZ configuration.
OS is a windows XP 32 bits. CPU usage is around 75%.
(note: FMLE instances are run with FMLEcmd not GUI mode)
Does someone know if i can gain performance with windows XP 64bits ?
My goal is to encode 4 streams on a single machine, does someone know if a dual CPU, let's say 2 X (4 core) Xeon, is enough ?

In short will the version upgrades disable the features of the old Version even though the old version is present in the desktop?

In quickviewer it is allowing me to input only 5000 or 6000 (BP)records, if i am trying to input more than that it is throwing ABAP- run time error. Is there any other way to input more than that in Quickviewe

you get an error because the work with the Quickviewer is a dialog- Prozess.
If you want a 'work around', set the parameter of the timeout dialog prozess higher.

USB port. For this, I am writing a device driver for Windows 98 that receive
data and put it in a memory buffer. I have a VI which graphs this data in
LabView 5.0. The problem is that I don´t know to use this driver in LabView.
For now, I think to use a "code interface node" with code writen in C or a
"call library function" with a DLL. But I need some help with the "code
interface node" because this VI don´t use a .c file. Shortly, I apreciate
some help with this VI or some idea for use the USB port in LabView. Thanks.

I have a Linux platform in place. It is a 2 NODE RAC WITH ASM
1. All my IP Addresses( Public/Private/VIP) are placed in /etc/host file.
Q1: When we upgrade to 11g It will ask for SCAN IP, what should I do for that, I don't have DNS working in my organization, where Can I get SCAN IP and its port#?
2. There are few components Invalid, Which I feel may be hindrance for my up gradation, Could you please tell me if I can upgrade the database even if Let these components Invalid?

You need to use a different IP address for the SCAN VIP. In your example, it cannot be the same as dlpqcora1.
Also, if you are not using a DNS to resolve it, then be aware that only one IP address can be configured (from note +[ID 887522.1] 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure Single Client Access Name (SCAN) Explained+ ):

Oracle strongly recommends that you do not configure SCAN VIP addresses in the hosts file. But if you use the hosts file to resolve SCAN name, you can have only one SCAN IP address.

Recovery Strategy - Need Some Information - Critical

I need help from you all to understand the following scenario:
1.We have a Production database which is running in ARCHIEVELOG mode.
2.This database is supported with FAILOVER Machenism.
3.The backup strategy is as follows
3.1 Sunday Level 0
3.2 Monday,
3.3 Tuesday Level 2
3.3 Wednesday Level 1
3.4 Thursday Level 2
3.5 Friday Level 1
3.6. Saturday Level 2
Now follows my question:
1. If I need to delete some of the old Archieve files, Can I delete them?
2. If I can delete them, up to which date can I delete them?
3. Consider on Sunday the date is 16, and my db is crashed on 20 i.e on Thursday and I have deleted the archieve files till 15 i.e. on Saturday. In this situation can I recover the database completely?
If you need any clarification, please revert.
This is very critical issue for me.
Your help will be appreciated.

In fact you don't even need to restore the archived redo logs if you backup them!
For example in your backup scripts you can includeBACKUP ARCHIVE LOG ALL DELETE INPUT;This will include the in your backup sets, so they'll be targets for your backup retention policy.
Then, if it crashes on monday, you just RESTORE UNTIL "sunday";
RECOVER UNTIL "monday sometime";RMAN will find the necessary backupsets, including those for the archived redo logs and do it for you.
Or you can RESTORE ARCHIVE LOG also. Refer to RMAN guide for syntax.

Need some information on dataguard / streams for our scenerio !!

We have a application with Oracle 11g ( will call it as Box 1 ) , currently apart form regular transaction load that we have, there are couple of other reporting apps also tapping/approaching our primary db (Box 1 ) which puts a lot of load on the db & the server. I did some go-ogling and found that data guard or streams can come as handy to bring the load down by introducing Box 2 as standby db.... So i am thinking to have a standby server i.e. Box 2 which will cater to all the reporting requirements and primary will just play a role of data entry & small reporting req.
So my question to you guys is :
1) Assuming i just want to offload some load from server to box 2 for reporting purpose, is Data guard an option to go for . If yes, then do i need to go with physical standby or logical standby assuming our standby db will be just just for reporting purpose or in other words all the reporting apps like data warehousing wil be approaching standby db ?
2) As i understood STREAMS comes in handy if i want to have more control as to what gets shipped on to box 2 as a update, like u can much finer granule level control i.e. table level , col level etc . So since we plan to have complete db in sync always, streams wont be useful in our case, right ?

Here two things are different 1) standby 2) streams, of course related to replication
Starting from 11g, you can use physical standby for remitting purposes, that mean select statements will work I.e. You can say read only database also recovery will be enabled too.
In that process, users who perform only read only operations, no inserts/updates/delete operations are allowed.
In streams, it works across heterogeneous platforms, you can perform replication of data, that can be some objects or any schema or full database too. There would be lot of dependency too.
To SYNC both databases you can go for data guard which comes only with cost of enterprise edition. Standby is exactly mirror copy.
