Need sound from MB to LG Plasma TV

Hello,
I am getting a picture on my TV using a MDP to DVI with a DVI to HDMI converter, but there is no sound. I tried using an RCA cable that plugs into my headphone jack and the TV, but I cannot figure out how to make it work. Please help.

Check the user manual for your TV. When the TV is receiving a picture by HDMI, it also expects to get digital sound from HDMI. However, one of the HDMI inputs on the TV will usually have a method for configuring it so that sound can come in through standard, analog RCA jacks. But it is usually specific to only one of the HDMI inputs. And it requires making a setting change using the TV's menu system. That's why you need to check the manual.

Try turning down the speak volume (System Preferences->Sound->Output->Output Volume) or the microphone gain (System Preferences->Sound->Input->Input Volume). Do this on both sides of the call.

No output sound from output port/analog audio: Need help

hello, I want to connect my analog audio equipment to my iMac. I have done this in the past with my old G3. I have connected the RCA cables to a 3.5 mm jack and put it into the audio input port, which was what worked on the G3. When I open the sound page for input & output, on Output I can see the volume bar thing moving in relation to the sounds from mic, turntable, etc: all the analog audio things. However, there is no actual output of sound through the iMac;s speakers or a headphone. The output page is pretty simple so I am real sure I have all the rigt things checked, unchecked etc. Any ideas? Thanks.

I had what sounds like a similar problem to jazzzrat. i had my macbook setup to a stereo and it worked for over a year. suddenly no sound came out of the stereo. in my case, it definitely was a software setup thing.
plug in your stereo jack into the audio out port. then go to system preferences-->sound-->output. on there you should see, under "device for sound output": Name=Headphones, port=built-in output. (if you see name=built in speakers, you plugged in the wrong plug). Now go down to the bottom of the window and UNcheck the "mute" box, and make sure the volume slider is midway or more.
For some reason, mac allows you to mute the "headphones" and "built in speakers" selectively. we have no idea how that box got checked, that remains a complete mystery. but when we eventually found -- and unchecked -- the box, our stereo output came back just fine.

What do I need to get better sound from my Mac mini

The sound from my external speakers is very poor. I am hard of hearing(50% in one ear) and I find it very difficult to follow a conversation etc.
I am now on Yosemite, and the speakers have been used on all my previous pc's successfully. I cannot find a control for the built-in audio, does one exist?

Thanks for your reply. Realtek audio works only in playback. There is a stereo mix in the mixer but the recording controls are not operable with no sliders in the mixer for any recording option. Slider controls appear to be grayed out. Can't figure out how to enable them. Downloaded newest drivers to no avail.
The M Audio control panel has no apparent option for recording stereo mix. Adobe ignores the sound from the DVD or CD and shows flatline.
I'm trying to record the sound from the DVD not rip the track.
When I go to Audio Driver Setup and select Audition 3.0 windows sound, there is no input device installed.
I'm thinking of going back to a decent internal Soundblaster card like I have on my 8 year old machine I am replacing.

make sure your ipad is not muted
make sure you volume is not all the way down
make sure audio play out of the ipad when not connected to the hdmi adapter
if you did and it don't work then it's likely an issue with the connetor
or the tv or it's settings

I recently purchased HDMI cable and adaptor, so that I can play downloads from my Macbook Air on my TV. There is only sound from the Macbook, not the TV - Do I need as separate cable for sound?

I've got the same issue: when I connect my Macbook Air (2011) to TV via HDMI cable there's no sound through the TV system, only from the Macbook Air. I used to use my older Macbook Pro with the same HDMI adapter and it worked just fine, but not with the Macbook Air it doesn't.
My software is up to date. I tried to select the TV as an output option in sound preferences, but it doesn't yield any results.
Rebooding multiple times doesn't help either.
Any suggestions on how to tackle this problem?

I just bought a Zen V Plus. Could someone please tell me how to record sound from a DVD and/or CD to my MP3? Thank you!

Try this:
1. Connect the Line IN jack on your player to the line output of an external stereo source, such as a CD or MiniDisc player, using the supplied line-in cable.
2. Press the Back/Options .You may need to do this more than once until the main menu appears.
3. Select Extra button to start a line-in encoding.
5. On your external stereo source, start playing the song you want to encode.
6. While encoding, you can press and hold the Back/Options button and select one of the following items:
Pauses the encoding. You can also pause the encoding by pressing the Play/Pause button.
Stops and saves the encoding. You can also stop the encoding by pressing the Record
Split Ends and saves current recording session, and begins a new one.
7. Press the Record button to end the line-in recording. The recorded track is named LINE followed by the date and time of the recordin YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS<. For example, if you record a track on March 5, 2004 at 2:57 pm, the track is named LINE
This information can also be found in your user's guide, it's a .chm file found in your installation cd.

It sounds like one of your preferences has changed.
Go to preferences > audio > general, and make sure "track mute/solo" is set to "CPU saving (slow response)". It is probably set to "Fast " at the moment.
This setting (fast) basically causes immediate muting from the channel strip while your song is in play. This is because the audio is still being read from the hard drive, but the channel strip is simply muted.... like a hardware mixer. When set to "CPU saving", the audio from that track, when muted, is actually stopped from streaming from the hard drive, but there is a couple second delay before the audio is actually muted.
One would think that the fast setting is generally preferable, except when you need to do what you are doing. The only way to keep duplicate copies of channel strips acting independent of one another is to leave this setting on the "CPU saving" setting.

Need sound drivers for a Pavillion dv8309us running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-Bit OS. I'm getting "no audio output device is installed" error after trying various different drivers. Sometimes the driver will install and I'll reboot, but to no avail I end up with the same error and a red X over the speaker in the system tray. I've tried Realtek drivers and Conexant drivers from HP. When I run Windows upgrade advisor it recognizes the problem, but Microsoft doesn't offer a compatible driver. At this point I'm very desperate considering everything else works fine and I don't want to go back too XP Media Center. If there is anything you can do to help, it would be greatly appreciated. Can I stream the sound from a video running on my apple tv to my wireless speakers using airplay?

I have living room speakers connected to an airport express and available via airplay from my computer, ipad2 and iphone which is great for playing music. My question is, can I use those speakers to play sound from videos running on my apple tv? For instance if I use airplay to run a video on apple tv from my computer or iOS device, can I have the audio play on my speakers connected to an airport express? It would be amazing to be able to use the speakers simultaneously with the apple tv as they are both on the same home sharing network. Possible?

No. But, are your speakers only connected to the AE or are they also connected to an amplifier?
You would need to use a Toslink cable to go from the Apple TV to the speakers/amp.

Hey there! If I connect speakers (iPod Hi-Fi) to my shut down MacBook and then start the MacBook, there's no sound neither form the MacBook nor from the speakers.
If I plug out the cable the sound comes from the MacBook as usual, if I plug it in again the Hi-Fi works regularly. How come?

The HDMI sound may disable the other sound therefore you need to disable HDMI sound (remember put back if you wish to use it). Please check this video:
