Need standalone installs of Universal Installer

Downloads such as the ODBC drivers are packaged for the Oracle Universal Installer. This becomes a problem when it comes to emailing the ODBC driver installer, for example, to a customer. I have to go to the customer site with my Oracle install CD to install the installer and then install the ODBC driver.
It would be more practical for non-oracle Windows installs, such as ODBC drivers, to have either a standalone EXE install or to at least have a standalone install for the Universal Installer.

For those distributing software, have you looked into the 10g Instant Client? That allows you to install a very stripped-down version of the Oracle client and the Oracle ODBC drivers by copying a few DLL's and setting up a couple config settings. Bypasses the OUI completely.
For non Instant Client installs, you need to install the appropriate version of the Oracle client, which installs the appropriate version of the OUI as a side effect. The full ODBC driver isn't a stand-alone product, it requires various libraries that are installed with the Oracle client.

  • Oracle Installer or Universal Installer

We are upgrading from forms 4.5 to 6, so do we also have to upgrade from Oracle Installer to the Universal Installer? As we currently use Oracle Installer for deployment of code to the end users PC. Many Thanks

Forms 6.0.5 (Forms 6) and Forms 6.0.8 (6i) are both packaged for the old oracle installer (ORCA) and can be installed with the Oracle installer. If you want to use the universal installer you need to install the product, then add all of the files to file groups in the software packager, track all of the registry entries and add these then create a jar file for the universal installer.

  • Oracle 9i Installation Using Universal Installer.

I have installed Oracle 9i using the Universal Installer under W2K and set my passwords for SYS and SYSTEM, i kept them the same.
But when I go to run the SQL Worksheet it asks for a name and password I type in SYS for the name and the allocated password. I do the same for the SYSTEM name. Under both logins it is unsuccessful. Wheras if I use the name and password given by the documentation it connect. The only problem here is that this given name does not have rights to modify or look at the tables in the databases.
    Can anyone help?

If I understand the problem, it's a login issue. Oracle 9i, when connecting as the user sys or system, requires the role SYSDBA or SYSOPER. The problem when using the GUI tools is there's no place to enter "AS SYSDBA". You may want to try putting it in the connection (alias) field as "alias AS SYSDBA". Using the command line, it looks like: SQLPLUS "sys/pwd@alias as sysdba".

  • Where to find oracle universal installer

    Hi,
i have oracle 10g installed on linux system at /home/oracle directory by a person who was before me at my work place.
i need to start the universal installer to see whether oracle text, intermedia has been installed or not. where should i go and start the universal installer.
i am not able to find it.
what is the installer file name . i mean what is the .exe file name for the installer
    THanks,
    Philip.

    Hi Eric,
yes i was finally able to execute the commands u told me.
thisis what i did in order.
    1. i first increased java_pool_size to >150M
then when i executed the catpatch.sql, i got following error
    "BEGIN DBMS_REGISTRY.CHECK_SERVER_INSTANCE; END;
    ERROR AT LINE 1
...DATABASE NOT OPEN FOR UPGRADE OR DOWNGRADE"
    2. NEXT i executed utlrp.sql which did run without errors. ( i think this script might have created soem problems for me, i am not sure about this)
    3. next i executed soem scripts in order as told to me by another person
    @initjvm.sql -- no errors
@initxml.sql --there were errors and did not execute
one of the error was something related with "....java_load..."
@xmlja.sql ---there were erros same with "....java_load.."
    @catjava.sql --errors
    @catexf.sql --errors
    @catqm.sql --errors
    @catxdbj.sql --no errors
after executing all the above, when i run the following sql
    "select comp_name, status
    from dba_server_registry;"
    i got following result
    Oracle Text VALID
    OLAP Catalog VALID
    Oracle Data Mining VALID
    Oracle XML Database INVALID
    Oracle InterMedia VALID
    Oracle Expression Filter LOADING
    Oracle Workspace Manager VALID
    Oracle Database Catalog Views VALID
Oracle Database Packages and Types VALID
    JServer JAVA Virtual Machine VALID
    Oracle XDK LOADING
    Oracle Database Java Packages LOADING
    OLAP Analytic Workspace VALID
    Oracle OLAP API VALID
I am not sure whether the scripts @catpatch and @utlrp created this problem or the other scripts that i mentioned created this problem. because before i executed these scripts only xml database was invalid and xdk was loading. rest are were valid. but now many components are invalid and loading.
CAN U HELP ME SOLVE THE ABOVE ISSUES AND MAKE THEM ALL VALID.
    Thanks,
    Philip.

  • To install ODBC on Windows--Need Universal Installer 10.1.0.4 & Net Client

The instructions for installing Oracle ODBC for Windows requires Universal Installer 10.1.0.4 & Net Client. I cannot find where to obtain these from the download page. A colleague looked up Universal Installer 10.1.0.4 on the support area, but the best he could find was reference to a patch. I do not have nor want to install all of Oracle on my laptop just to have Oracle ODBC.
Where can I obtain these applications/tools and is there anything else that I need?

You have to have the Oracle client installed on your machine to be able to install the Oracle ODBC driver. This can either be a full Oracle client install or you can install the 10g Instant Client, which is a slimmed down version of the client. Both the regular client and the instant client are downloadable from OTN. The full client has a cleaner install process, the instant client is aimed more at corporate users that want to deploy the install as part of installing internal software, so it involves a bit more configuration by setting appropriate environment variables, etc.

  • Use of Oracle Universal Installer?

I am trying to install Oracle Developer Suite 10g (I have already Oracle 10.g installed) - however I get (after message that all requirements are met, so - installation can proceed):
'setup.exe has encountered a problem and need to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience..... Please tell Microsoft about this problem'.
    Oracle Universal Installer version: 10.1.0.2.0
Oracle Deveoper Suite: 10.1.2.0.2 (so - a bit higher - is this acceptable?)
    WinXP, default JRE 1.5_1
I can run OUI as standalone application - so - maybe I can simply run it and ask it to install Developer Suite? But as I understand - I should point to some xml file where products for istallation should be specified - but on installation disks there i no any (there is onlu setup executables). Where can I find them? Or should I upgrade to higher version of OUI?
Thanks for any advice in advance!
    OK - I find products.xml file - and I got messages:
    1) error while loading areasQueries library
    2) I should upgrade to OUI 10.1.0.3.0 or later - where can I download it?

OK - now I searched on yahoo for Oracle Universal Installer download - there are some discussion in forums where it is recognized that standalone download of specified OUI isn't available from Oracle website

you have to change the port no in listener.ora file which exists on Oracle_home/network/admin/listener.ora like
    LISTENER =
      (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
        (DESCRIPTION =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
        (DESCRIPTION =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Griat-xp.bebo.tech.com)(PORT = 1521))
      )from this to
    LISTENER =
      (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
        (DESCRIPTION =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
        (DESCRIPTION =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Griat-xp.bebo.tech.com)(PORT = 1522))
)afterwords you have to reload the listener by using lsnrctl on command prompt
in this way you can change the default port of Oracle

  • Mandrake Linux 8.0 - can't get Oracle Universal Installer to run

    Hi all.
I'm having trouble getting Oracle's Universal Installer to run.
I'm trying to become DBA certified, so I went and purchased
    (among
other materials) a book titled "Oracle8i for LINUX Starter Kit",
authored by Steve Bobrowski, published by Oracle Press / Osborne
    McGraw-Hill, ISBN 0-07-212442-3.
The book includes a CD-ROM with Oracle8i Enterprise Edition,
Release 2, version 8.1.6 for LINUX.
I'm running an Intel P-III 500 MHz with 512MB RAM, 30GB hard disk
exclusively configured for Linux (no other O/S on it) and Oracle
(so LOTS of hard disk space is available), Matrox Millennium G400
    video card (32MB).
My hardware exceeds all requirements listed in aforementioned
book, and also in Oracle's own documentation (from their web
    site).
I'm running Mandrake's Linux 8.0, PowerPack Edition, with:
    kernel = 2.4.3
XFree 4.0.3 (and I've also tried 3.3.6, with identical results
    to those listed below)
    glibc 2.2.2
I've followed the book's instructions to the letter, and set up
the environment variables, oracle user, and subdirectories as
    required.
    So far, so good.
OK. Now, here's where the problem appears:
I log in as the oracle user, and try to start the Oracle
Universal Installer (following the instructions in the book)
    as follows:
    cd /mnt/cdrom
    ./runInstaller
The computer tries to do some stuff, then spews the information
listed at the bottom of this posting to the screen. I press
<ENTER> after "OK" and get dumped back to the bash prompt.
That's it. I can't go any further. No Oracle Universal
    Installer.
By the way, I've also downloaded Oracle8i Enterprise Edition
Release 3, version 8.1.7 from Oracle's website, and tried to
install that, too. Exactly same results.
The nice folks at Oracle have politely told me to get lost,
and not bug them for unpaid support.
I'd really like to get this stuff up and running, so I can
start studying and practicing for DBA, but I need help 'cause
    this problem is beyond me.
    So... can anyone help??
    Thanks in advance.

    I have Mandrake 8.0 on PII-600, 256 RAM. I used the downloaded
    8.1.7. Edit JRE_LOCATION in Disk1/install/oraparam.ini to point
to your version of JRE 1.1.8 v3 (JRE from
    http://www.backdown.org). Then try with NUMLOCK=OFF.
I just clicked the 'typical' installation. It failed at the end
and did not install the database manager. The error message was:
    SIGGEV received at bfffea90 in
    /u01/app/oracle/jre/1.1.8/lib/linux/native_threads/libjava.so
    Process terminated
Writing stack trace to javacore30299.txt... OK
    /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/bin/dbassist: line 103: 30229
    Segmentation fault $JRE_EXEC -Duser.dir=$USER_DIR -classpath
    $CLASSPATH DBCreateWizard $ARGUMENTS
If you get beyond this point, let me know. Good luck!

  • [b]Can't not run the Oracle Universal Installer (Oracle8.1.7 for Linux) on

I have a problem when try to install Oracle8i Release 8.1.7 Enterprise Edition on RedHat Linux 7.3. After I do the pre-installation tasks, i enter the command (runs as the oracle user):
    $ /tmp/Disk1/runInstaller
I wait for the one minute and then nothing is happen. I don't understand the reason why the Oracle Universal Installer can't not display! Please tell me all reasons may be!

Sorry the Oracle version should be 1.7 not 1.1.7. I downloaded it from the web site. The JRE I downloaded is jre 1.18 because the installer asked for this version.

The "?"stands for a strange character and may change at diffrent time runing the installer. I downloaded a JRE from blackdown and make a link to /usr/local/jre and I also tried to make link to the JRE shiped with Oracle8 1.1.7. But I still get same error. Does Oracle8 1.1.7 still need JRE downloaded and insatll(or link) to /usr/local/jre? I don't know what else I can try. Please give me a help. Thanks.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

  • "Oracle Universal Installer" instead of "Oracle Webcenter Suite 10.1.3.2.0"

    Hi,
I've installed HTTP_Server from [Oracle HTTP Server (Apache 2.0) (10.1.3.3.0) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)|http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/111060_win32soft.html] ; unfortunately, I was unable to control the installation process (select advanced install, password, hostname, port number...), because I got the "Oracle Universal Installer" instead of the "Oracle Webcenter Suite 10.1.3.2.0 Installation" screen, as shown in the installation documentation.
Although I suspect I'll be able to configure via the various configuration files, I've had to install every single component, instead of just the one I need. Has anyone encountered the same problem and know how to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Chris.

Actually, my problem is that I was not prompted to choose between basic and advanced; that's in the "Oracle Webcenter Suite 10.1.3.2.0 Installation" screens, as seen in the installation instructions. But the "Oracle Universal Installer" screen that I get when I click setup.exe doesn't give you that choice.
This isn't actually a big deal, because HTTP_Server was still correctly installed, but I had to configure it manually. I'm just trying to figure out why it is that I didn't get the correct installer.
Does anyone know how I can get the "Oracle Webcenter Suite 10.1.3.2.0 Installation" application instead of the "Oracle Universal Installer"?

  • Oracle 11G javaw Universal Installer error

    Hey all,
I'm trying to install Oracle 11G on XP Pro and I'm having all sorts of problems. I downloaded the complete installer:
    <b>Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0)</b>
and I receive the following error when I attempt to install:
<b>The Java RunTime Enviroment was not found at bin/javaw.exe. Hence, the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run. Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.3.1 or higher and try again.</b>
I installed JRE 1.4.2.18 rebooted the computer and tried to install again and still recieved the same error.
I checked the path to javaw.exe in the Java Control Panel and the path is there. I even disabled the one that was created with the install and still no luck.
I saw something in the fourms about the need to disable your firewall because the Oracle Installer writes to the registry. I am running Macafee and have disabled my firewall and still no luck.
Finally, back to the Java Control Panel. Under the "Java tab" --> then clicking the "view" button under the "Java Application Runtime Settings" there are two tabs, "User" and "System" that show paths for the Java software location on the system. Under the "user" tab there are two entries for the JRE 1.4 and 1.6 platforms, but only one entry (1.6) under the "system" tab, with no way for me to add a path to that tab. Please note I am using an Administrator account
    Thanks for any assistance

Hmmm...you downloaded the entire .zip file and checked the length?
You unzipped the file with directory structures intact?
You ran the setup file at the top of the unzipped directory strucure?
You read the installation manual and made sure all prerequisites for installation are met?

  • How to get a newer version of the Universal Installer

I have a need fot and updated version of the Oracle 9 ODBC driver. The driver, however requires a newer version of the OUI (we have 2.2.0.16.0 and it wants 2.3.0.5.0a). I can't seem to find a seperate download just for the installer. Does anyone know of anyway to just get an update to the installer?

    Hello,
Here you can download the newer versions of ODBC drivers with or without Oracle Universal Installer:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/rdbodbc/index.html
I wait that this can help you!!

  • Universal installer: certain files are being used by one or more appl.

I am trying to patch an 9.2.0.1 database to 9.2.0.3.
When i start Oracle Universal installer and specified the locations i got the following error:
Certain files which need to be reinstalled by Oracle Universal installer are being used by one or more applications.
Please close any running applications before continuing.
All services are stopped from the service panel! In the taskmanager there isn't any program running associated with Oracle. What is the hidden program that prevents my installation?

I guess this is Windows, try the following:
    1) Rename $ORACLE_HOME\bin to something else
    2) Reboot the machine
    3) Rename back to $ORACLE_HOME\bin
    4) Try installation again
