Need steps for Installing Oracle 11g R2 Grid Infrastrucure in Suse Linix 10

Hi,
I have system with Suse Linux 10 (64-bit), in that i need to install the Oracle 11 R2 Grid Infrastructure for
1. Grid Computing
2. ASM Cluster.
Can any one please provide the Step by step installation to me.
Thanks With Regards
Baalaji V

Ideally, you need two nodes to install a RAC. If you have only one system and trying for practice, you can do it with Virutal machines(VM) or create it as single instance.
You can refer Oracle documentation on Grid install and postings in the internet about Grid install in using VM.

  • Needed steps for installing oracle 10R2 on windows server 2003

    Hi to All,
Can anybody give me steps for how to install oracle 10R2 on windows 2003 server in production environment and what is the preinstallation task and postinstallation task.
    Thanks and Regards
    Mohd Khaja

There is one pre-requisite that is missing from the documentation - ensuring that the administration team is adequately trained.
Since you are asking this question, I wonder whether your team is properly prepared for, and aware of, the possible nuances or changes from default that might be relevant to your environment.
For example, is your team familiar with the concept of Flashback Recovery Area and how it may fit, or conflict with, your production needs? Use of RMAN? Location of Oracle software Inventory and implications in your OS-level backup? How to configure both the software and the database to meet your Service Level Agreement requirements.
The referenced document is an excellent first step, as it asks some of the questions. If you are serious about production stability, you want to go through that as well as get appropriate level of expertise in your shop.

  • Best practice for install oracle 11g r2 on Windows Server 2008 r2

    Dear all,
May I know what is the best practice for install oracle 11g r2 on windows server 2008 r2. Should I create a special account for windows for the oracle database installation? What permission should I grant to the folders where Oracle installed and the database related files located (datafiles, controlfiles, etc.)
Just grant Full for Administrators and System and remove permissions for all others accounts?
Also how should I configure windows firewall to allow client connect to the database.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How can I increase the storage capacity in Linux for installing Oracle 11g?

    Hi all,
I've been searching in Internet information about how to increase the storage capacity of a Linux machine, so that it can help me with my problem without success. I tried to execute some command lines encountered in some tips in forums, but no one works.
I want to install an Oracle 11g database, which needs 4 GB minimal for the installation. I can not continue with the installation because of this problem.
I use a VMWare virtual machine, which I increased over its settings to 160 GB, but not its file systems or whatever in the machine.
    I did this:
    [root@localhost ~]# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/sda3 18G 15G 1.9G 89% /
    /dev/sda1 190M 12M 169M 7% /boot
    none 506M 0 506M 0% /dev/shm
    /dev/hdc 699M 0 699M 100% /media/cdrom
As far I understand the bigger storage capacity is used by the file system /dev/sda3. But what about the rest, I mean the 140 GB?. I've already increased the storage capacity over the settings. How can I tell the machine "please use the remaining 140 GB for the installation of the Oracle DB and other needed installations?.
How can I increase here what?. Disk? File system? Volume Group? It can not be so difficult, can it?
There are no volume groups in the machine:
    +[root@localhost /]# vgdisplay+
    +No volume groups found+
Linux is too complicated. Unfortunately I have to do that in Linux :-(
Can someone help me? I sit here since long hours without finding a solution :-(

    thanks for your answers.
    To Dude:
You can address the problem in a number of different ways, but please post your version of Linux and provide more information about your current partitions
The Version of Linux is Linux Red Hat Enterprise 5.
Open Logical Volume Management from the System Administration menu.
Select your volume from the logical view, edit properties and then use the slider to set your volume size, or click "remaining" to extend your partition.
I've already opened the LVM from the System Administration menu, but there is no possibility to see the volume groups, because there is no one. There is no tabs like Volume Groups or something like that...
I would try the procedure described above your answer and write you again. I hope it works...I will write you back in a few minutes...

  • Steps for installing oracle 9i AS in windows 2000

    Hi,
I have windows 2000 server and i have already installed oracle 9i database in c:\oracle9ids folder.
Now i want to install oracel 9i Application server and oracle 9i Infrastructure.
I am bit confused with the procedure of installation.
Can anyone help me with the steps and sequence whether i have to install the oracle 9i application server first and if so,what should be the oracle home for this. For this should i select c:\oracle9ids (where i have installed oracle 9i database) as the oracle home or should i install this in a separate oracle home.
Similarly when i should install oracle 9i infrasturcture(is it before the oracle 9i application server installation or after this) and also what should be the oracle home for that(is it the oracle home c:\oracle9ids,where the oracle database is installed or in a separate oracle home).
Also, can anyone send me the links for these 2 manuals.

All of the doc is available from OTN - follow the links on the left nav bar -> Documentation -> Oracle9iAS and then choose the Doc library for the specific release you are interested in. The site seems to be down right now but if you follow the links above you will find both of these on the 'Getting Started' tab.
    Oracle9i Application Server Concepts Guide
    Oracle9i Application Server Administrator's Guide
The installation manual and release notes are in the platform specific doc libraries - also available from the Documentation link on the left nav. These should provide the information you need to understand the steps to follow to install - if you find these steps confusing please let me know your specific comments so we can look to make improvements in the next release of the product.
I am assuming you are installing Oracle9iAS 9.0.2.x.
Let me clarify how the Oracle9iAS 902 install works.
    1. Firstly, if you want to use the Oracle9iAS infrastructure - ie for management purposes/single signon/portal or other components that require metadata then you need to install the Infrastructure first.
This must be installed into it's own brand new oracle_home. This will, by default, install an Oracle9i database tha[i]Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.

  • What are the correct steps for installing Oracle Entitlement Server SSM?

Can somebody explain what are the correct steps to install OES SSM 10.1.4.3? I have installed OES admin 10.1.4.3 and applied the CP2 patch. it is allowing me to open Entitlement Administration, where I can define the policy.
Is it sufficient to have this Entitlement Admin to call the policy from BPM? Do I need a SSM ?

  • How to install oracle 11g on ubuntu 10.10

please give me the steps for installing oracle db 11g on Ubuntu 10.10

To the best of my knowledge, installing the database on any debian-based distro is not supported. Red Hat and OEL are officially supported, although I have seen guides on installing on Fedora which should also apply to CentOS. I'd go here for that: http://www.oracle-base.com/
There have been some reports of success with the Oracle client on Ubuntu (again, not supported but hey, it works). Check here. http://mikesmithers.wordpress.com/category/ubuntu/

  • Errors in Oracle 11g R2 Grid Infra Installation

    Hi all,
I went through the steps to install Oracle 11g R2 Infrastructure on RHEL 5.2 (32-bit) in a couple of Vmware machines.
    - As I relied on the Vmwaretool for time sync, I didn't configure SNP.
    - As I don't have a DNS server, I configured the scan-rac in /etc/hosts.
I know in production this is wrong, but for this testing env it is Ok (according to http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/OracleDB11gR2RACInstallationOnOEL5UsingVMwareServer2.php)
All the configuration went Ok and the OUI went on successfully till
it reached to the last step: "Oracle Cluster Verification Utility" which, as expected, failed.
It generates the following long and complicated log: http://www.ahmedbaraka.com/temp/installActions.txt
My question is: Did all the errors in the log result only from the SNP and SCAN issues? Is there any other discovered issues?
    Thanks in advance.

this could be just from ntp.

  • Oracle 11g R2 Grid Infrastructure Installation stuck on 65%

    Dear All,
I am in process of installing Oracle 11g R2 Grid Infrastructure on 2-node virtual RAC. All went very well until the Grid Installation stuck on 65%. It is saying copying file on remote node ('Copying Oracle Home '/u01/app/11.2.0/grid' to remote nodes 'cxm-vl-rman02'). From the logs it is difficult to figure out where the bottlenecks lies. Have anyone of you encounter similar situation before? I can attach oraInventory logs as well if you want to have a look at that. Please let me know if you find any pointer or clue of this problem.
    Many Thanks
    Nukesh

No nothing was being copied, the /u01/app/11.2.0/grid directory was empty and nothing was adding to the log or err files.
Actually I found/resolved the problem and forgot about this post.
It happens that in staging my server, iptables was enabled which stopped the progress.
I had to issue 'service iptables stop' and 'chkconfig iptables off' AND REBOOT ALL NODES.
Simply stopping the service allowed the installer to continue, but eventually the root.sh script has problems. Rebooting both nodes resolved the issue.
    Thanks

  • Why i need all that b***s*** for installing oracle db?

As all you know to install for instance oracle 11g on redhat, oel, centos, fedora, etc... oracle recommends to install more than 600MB of garbage in the OS...
For instance if we have a minimal redhat install we would need to install more than 580 packages to run oracle. These packages are grouped in 12 groups. they are installed with yum or up2date depending on your OS version:
yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment" "Editors" "Graphical Internet" "Development Libraries" "Development Tools" "Server Configuration Tools" "Administration Tools" "Base" "Fonts" "Legacy Fonts" "Hardware Support" "System Tools" "X Window System"
Beside that we also need to make sure that the following packages are installed:
    yum install binutils-2.* elfutils-libelf-0.* glibc-2.* glibc-common-2.* libgcc-4.* libstdc++-4.* make-3.* elfutils-libelf-devel-0.* glibc-devel-2.* gcc-4.* gcc-c++-4.* libstdc++-devel-4.* unixODBC-2.* libaio libaio-devel unixODBC-devel sysstat compat-libstdc++
But what's REALLY FUNNY, is that if we install a NON-PAYED version of Oracle (Oracle XE) we don't need any of the previous b***s***!!!! This is annoying, really annoying... we only need to install a sweet sweet RPM, 200MB, and e got it there...
So, anyone here can explain me (convince me) why the h*** we need to install 580 packages and at least 600MB of packages to get oracle ready to be installed?
Btw, I install oracle on linux for about 8 years, so I don't need explanations... I need to be convinced that Oracle could not do better than this... ;)

Or even better create that and some Amazon EC2 AMI's too...
For me it makes sense to have a Just enought OS for Oracle Database to run... Despite most people refer to JeOS as beeing related to VM environment's (for instance Ubuntu JeOS) the JeOS concept is not exclusive to VM's. And it sure even makes more sense to have a JeOS for running in an VM such as Amazon EC2.
EC2 AMIs with an Oracle Database in it already exist. OEL AMIs are being worked on if they're not already there.Exists in US :) not europe...
If you take a closer look at those AMI's you surelly find at least 500MB of software installed that's not needed to run Oracle 11g. I may be wrong but the OEL5 that comes installed on those AMI's eats ~300MB of memory without database running... And for instance I have EC2 instances (fedora 8) running that only uses 65MB memory without the oracle database running... If you think that a 32bit instance in amazon has at most 1.7GB, those 240 MB makes all difference to run databases! If I use the OEL, I waste 250 MB of precious memory that I can use in my database SGA.
