Need suggestion in forms migration and database migration

Friends,
We have currently forms 6 (not 6i) applications in Novell 4.
and our db is 9iR2 in RHEL AS 3. which is running for more than 8 years.
our management has decided to go for the migration....
Before one month i searched in the web and i came up with the solution as like below.
1. convert forms 6 to 10g and deploy using Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 (this is the latest version for forms and repots) in RHEL AS 4.8
2. upgrade 9ir2 db to 10gr2 db in RHEL AS 4.8
But now...my manager is asking me to go for the latest version.
that is....
1. forms 11g or the latest supporting version (Fusion middleware) in windows/Linux (choose the best one)
2. 11gR2 db in rhel 5.3 or above
so, please suggest me....which version i should go?
which type of combination will be better?
i cannot install oracle application server 10gR3....am i correct? it will not support forms and reports to deploy.
i hope somebody will help me in this regarding....
thanks

Hi Pankaj,
According to my knowledge there is no option to update the backend system by using  the scanned PDF file like adobe forms. It is advisable to design the adobe form by seeing the paper document & updating the backend system.

  • Need suggestion on new environment (server - database combi).

    Hello,
We have two database instances (DB1 and DB2 - Both 10g) each of size 10TB. Currently, both the databases are mounted on same AIX server.
There are several schemas in each database. There will be data transfer activity between two databases. Currently we are using DB links for the same.
We are planning to build a new environment(Server / Servers) with data from both the databases.Need your inputs and suggestions on building / designing the new environment.
2 Servers with DB1 and DB2 mounted on each seperately. - Pros and cons ?
1 server with DB1 and DB2 mounted on the same server. - Pros and cons ?
1 server with 1 DB (Merging both schemas from DB1 and DB2). - Pros and cons ?
Please suggest your thoughts, advantages and constraints of the different approaches.
A few things which come to my mind instantly are : Modularity , Data transfer , Security , Ease of maintenance , Expandability of business , Architectural recommendations , Backup and Restore.

    Hi Arjun.Singh,
Now can I create a new database with name JKL at Server B with backup of PQR?You need a target to use the duplicate command in rman.
Is your backup of PQR a image copy?
If so you could use a classic clone procedure to create a new database.

  • NLS_LANG value that suits Forms 10G and Database 11G wanted !

I can't believe how bad is to install Oracle Database and Oracle Forms on the same Windows Vista machine!
I had a problem in Oracle Forms 10g that prevents many items in the Form Builder menu from appearing in English Language and also prevents anything in the web-based forms runtime from appearing in English. I searched the forum for a solution and found that I have to set a NLS_LANG value in the environment variables equal to the following: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1256.
I did this and my Forms builder looked great. Everything in english with no problems. But now what ?! The Oracle Database itself refused to connect from all clients! It refused to connect from Forms Builder, SQL Deeveloper, and even from SQL PLUS! The error given is: ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified.
It seems that what I exactly need is a NLS_LANG value that will satisfy both Oracle Forms 10G and Oracle Database 11G that both are installed on the same Vista machine. The question is: What could this NLS_LANG value be?!
    Thank you in advance

If you have connected to the database on which the form is based, prior to running the form from the Builder, the uname and password will automatically be passed in at startup and you will not be prompted.
If you would rather hard code a username and password, enter it in formsweb.cfg. For example:
    SYNTAX:
    userid=<USERNAME>/<PASSWORD>@<DB NAME>
    EXAMPLE:
    userid=scott/tiger@orcl
Remember that this change will only impact runtime and have no effect on the Builder.

    Use the default parser.
By default, WebLogic Server is configured to use the default parser and transformer to parse and transform XML documents. The default parser and transformer are those included in the JDK 5.0.
The built-in WebLogic Server DOM factory implementation class is com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl.
The DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance method returns the built-in parser.
    DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();

  • Need suggestion on PLSQL Create and EXECUTE IMMEDIATE

Most of you already know plsql doesn't like create table, so we have to use EXECUTE IMMEDIATE for creating table. What if I want to see if the table exist, if not then create the table, later I will insert data into that table.
My problem is it returned me the error saying I am try to insert into a non existing table when trying to compile my code. I think plsql doesn't pick up the execute statement.
what I did is, both create and insert are executed by using EXECUTE IMMEDIATE. Anyone have such experience before and willing to share your knowledge?
PS: I am having same problem for creating sequence as well.

I think plsql doesn't pick up the execute statement.Since it is a runtime instruction, it will pick it up at runtime. but to be able to run, it needs to compile the code and in order to compile (so it can run) the code it needs that table/sequence you are referencing to exist already. So, you need to run the code to get the table and run needs to compile the code and compile needs the table to compile. can't go from here to there when you try to mix dynamic sql with static sql on the same object within the same program unit (or dependent units).

  • Need Suggestion: AIA O2B 2.0 PIP migration

    Hi
we are using AIA O2B 2.0 PIP (with siebel and BRM as source and target) with few customizations (Using only Customer creation/updation/termination and billing profile creation/updation & No fulfilment flows) with no callback mechanism to Siebel for any sort of Response!!.
We wanted to upgrade this to 11g.
We are thinking of below possibilities
    1)      Get license to AIA 11g foundation pack & migrate components to 11g.
    2)     Get license to AIA 11g FP and & O2C PIP 11g and do customizations.
We are thinking of 1st solution as number of components are less in our project.
    Can anyone pls suggest further....
    Regards
    Ramesh KR

If possible, try to patch 10.2 to the latest patch level first and try it again.
That is what the support will say to you first, anyway...

  • Custom installer and database migrations

Has anybody blogged or have info on the process of creating custom installers for AIR? I mean complete custom installers not just a silent install of the runtime and then the AIR installer?
I want to be able to install my AIR application's sqlite database on a fresh install, but leave the current database and update it through ActionScript if the install is replacing an earlier version of my app. My feeling is that, in addition to copying the basic files from the project directory, the customer installer just needs to remember to rename the MyApp-config.xml and place it in META-INF/AIR/application
Any ideas about a pattern for approaching DB migrations would be most appreciated! I like how rails migrations work, and am thinking to try to create something similar internally within my app to manage the sequence of database changes that would be needed between the user's current version of our app and the new one they're installing.
I think an upcoming incremental release of AIR will have some installer changes...is that right?
Thanks for any help or ideas!

    Joe,
Thanks for your helpful response. I think you're right that the database management steps would happen on app startup after checking a version number stored in the DB.
What I'm wondering, however, is if there's a best practice for managing these incremental changes to the DB. My current direction is to create a class MigrationsManager, that creates an array of class Migration ( with a single migrate() function ) to manage each necessary and incremental change. Meanwhile, a "migrations" table has one column "version" with a UTC timestamp as an integer and is updated on each migration.
Rails does migrations with up() and down() functions on their base migration class, but the down() function isn't applicable since I can't imagine I would be rolling back earlier migrations on a user's DB.
In the end, I guess I'm just fishing of the best way of managing the different scenarios encountered when 3 years down the road you have an audience with all kinds of different versions of your app/db because of differences in how assiduous they were in updating to the most recent version.

  • Performance problems, do we need to upgrade. Server and Database level

    Problem:
I'm a Java programmer and a Transact SQL DBA. So i have knowledge about databases. Nowwe have a database who performs very bad and got much deadlock problems and so on. It's an Oracle Database.
We have Oracle version 9 and an application in Delphi. The bad performance is only since a while. We have cleaned the archive.
My suggestion is why not migrate to a newer version of Oracle. Change some hardware specs get up to date. Then i think we will have less problems.
But ofcourse this is more trail on error. That why i hope there is an Oracle specialist here who can help me with a few questions.
    Users and Specs
    I got 150 till 180 users
i got a server with 1 processor XEON 233 GHZ
4 gig memory, constant use 1,5 gig
    Questions
    1. Is it a good idea to upgrade? Maybe not to solve al the problems, but version 9 is old, there is version 10 or 11.
    2. Which version we should use 10 or 11? 11 is in use for a while so this sounds like a good idea.
    3. Are the specs OK or must i do something about the server to?
Maybe dual core, or Enterprise (64 bit). Memory upgrade?
    4. Maybe for 64 bit i need Oracle version 11 to have good support on it?
I hope somebody can help me a bit.
    Thanks,
    Kind regards,

But do complete testing your upgraded database before you move to PRODUCTION.
. Are the specs OK or must i do something about the server to?It all depends on the usage and concurrent users :)

  • Look for suggestion on file encrytion and database

    Hi all,
I am developing a CVI and need to store some critical data (some parameters like device name and some critical constants) to a encrypted file. There are about 100 parameters need to be stored, total size is about 1kb. I was thinking to store them as .ini but those parameters are so critical and I don't want to expose them to the end user. Someone suggests to use database but I didn't have any experience in using database. I check the NI website and seems there is something called SQLTool to access the database, but I really don't understand how to set it up to use the database. I can create a simple Microsoft access database but don't know how to use the SQL Tools to make it work. I am developing the code in my computer but the application will be dispatched to the client and I don't think they have database or Microsoft access installed, so does it mean if I use database and SQL tools, the application can only use in my computer?
Anyway, it seems that I have to configure pretty many stuffs before I can access the database. Is that anyway I open the database as easy as the following way
    fopen("mydb.mdb");
If no, what other fire format do you recommend to store some critical data and easy for access in future. I just don't want user to open and modify the file direclty.

I suppose you don't need a full encryption but you only want to make data not easily readable from the end user.
If this is true, organizing data in a struct and dumping it to disk as I described here can be enough to make data opaque to the user, at least for numbers. Texts will remain to be readable with this method: if you need to mask them too you will need some more effort but it can be dome.
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

  • Compiling error ORA-00600 with Forms 6 and Database 10g

    Hi,
I am using "Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.4.0" and "Forms [32 Bit] Version 6.0.8.26.0 " with patch 17, when i compile a form that works with some tables in another database under dblink the error ORA-00600:internal error code, arguments:[16203],[],[],[],[],[],[],[] is displayed.
If i word with reports or sqlplus no error is displayed.
Before we installed 10g everything worked ok
What is wrong with forms or do i need to configure something else?

Is there a tool to troubleshoot ORA-00600 and ORA-07445 errors?
February 27th, 2006 By Fahd Mirza
ORA-00600 and ORA-07445 errors are the most esoteric errors in Oracle.
There is a tool called “ORA-600/ORA-7445 Troubleshooter” available at Metalink. It asks for the first argument of ORA-600 error with an optional database version number.
For example, to see the description of the error:
ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [723], [25908], [25908], [memory leak]
You enter 723 in the “ORA-600 First Argument” field. The first argument is a pointer to where in the code the error was caught and thus is the key information in identifying the problem.
You can also embed (copy/paste) the “Call Stack Trace” there, and, when you click on the “Search Call Stack” button an advanced MetaLink search is performed to find documents containing relevant sections from the call stack.
Call Stack extracts from the following files are supported:
    * Generic foreground and background server trace files located in background_dump_dest and user_dump_dest
    * OpenVMS NETV2 and BEQ log files located in ORA_ROOT:[NETWORK.LOG]
    * WINDOWS CORE.LOG files
    * GDB (debugger) backtrace call stacks (best endeavors)
Of course you will need a login to Oracle's Metalink site.
    Hope that helps,

  • Oracle weblogic Server 10g R3 -manual JMS migration and reverse migration

    Folks
we are trying to use manual JMS migration with WLST scripts /console and noticed several issues in Oracle weblogic serevr 10g R3 .(Currently not interested in using automatic server migration stuff)
1)Our use case is to be able to manually migrate JMS with persistent file store in case of long lasting hardware failure (so we need this working with the source server down)
    Here are my observations
    1) The console based manual migration works only when both the source and destination are up (ie for doing migration during scheduled maintainance and not for our use case)
    2) i tried wlst scripts which works partially for our use case
    wls:/jmsmigrationclustertestdomain/edit !> migrate('sb_ms1', 'sb_ms2','true','fa
    lse','all')
Migrating JMS and JTA services from 'sb_ms1' to destination 'sb_ms2' ...
    Migration completed successfully.
question is how do you migrate this back (reverse migration)
I tried a couple of wlst scripts which all were unsuccessful in migrating the services back. Syntax is also extremly confusing as the weblogic.Admin commands seem to be aware of "migratable targets" (such as "sb_ms1 migratable") but WLST doesnt seem to understand "sb_ms1 migratable"
If I just restart sb_ms1 without running any scripts, it complains about JMS artifacts(not being present) as they are migrated onto the other instance
I have this whole setup working on 9.2mp3 with weblogic.admin scripts
Thanks for any guidance on this

    Hi,
I guess you are using the default (system generated) migratable target names for the clustered servers, that have names ends with "(migratable)".
Are you performing the migration from "wls:/YOUR_ADMIN_SERVER_NAME/domainRuntime/MigratableServiceCoordinatorRuntime/the-MigratableServiceCoordinator" ?
Can you please post the exact WLST commands that you tried, syntax of the arguments and any erorr messages taht you have got while performing this operation?
    Thanks

    2) The requirement is to get this field from some other table (client has requested for a change based on their business process).
    3) Can you please advise me on how to do this? Can it be done by modifying custom.pll?
    4) Also please help me with links to any tutorial/demo explaining similar change in a seeded form of Oracle apps.

Modifying seeded forms (objects) is not supported, and your changes might get lost each time you apply an application patch that overwrites this form/object.
