Need suggestion on new environment (server - database combi).

Hello,
We have two database instances (DB1 and DB2 - Both 10g) each of size 10TB. Currently, both the databases are mounted on same AIX server.
There are several schemas in each database. There will be data transfer activity between two databases. Currently we are using DB links for the same.
We are planning to build a new environment(Server / Servers) with data from both the databases.Need your inputs and suggestions on building / designing the new environment.
2 Servers with DB1 and DB2 mounted on each seperately. - Pros and cons ?
1 server with DB1 and DB2 mounted on the same server. - Pros and cons ?
1 server with 1 DB (Merging both schemas from DB1 and DB2). - Pros and cons ?
Please suggest your thoughts, advantages and constraints of the different approaches.
A few things which come to my mind instantly are : Modularity , Data transfer , Security , Ease of maintenance , Expandability of business , Architectural recommendations , Backup and Restore.

Now can I create a new database with name JKL at Server B with backup of PQR?You need a target to use the duplicate command in rman.
Is your backup of PQR a image copy?
If so you could use a classic clone procedure to create a new database.

Hi, everyone I'm needing suggestions. I had a touchsmart tx2z however after nearly 4 years it has bit the dust couldn't be saved after its last crash computer would turn on but screen would stay black and ome of the keys like the caps lock would flash. Computer guys say my motherboard has gone bad. I'm looking for another computer now but would like one that is similar to the hp touchsmart but does not cost a lot of money.

Here is the current line-up of HP Touchscreen Laptops. Prices start at about $650 and go up from there. $650 sounds OK to my for a touchscreen laptop, but price is a subjective item. If these are too rich for you, you could always look at regular laptops.

Unable to move my database to a new environment using database script

I have generated a database script from my dev machine by ; right click on DB >> tasks >> generate scripts. Then on my staging environment I open the script file inside sql server management studio , and I execute the script.
But the script raised the following errors:-
Msg 5133, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
Directory lookup for the file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\TMS.mdf" failed with the operating system error 2 (failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105).

CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check related errors.
Msg 5011, Level 14, State 5, Line 1
User does not have permission to alter database 'TMS', the database does not exist, or the database is not in a state that allows access checks.

Database 'TMS' does not exist. Make sure that the name is entered correctly
can anyone adivce what is the problem ?

Need suggestions for new router running mac with eyeconnect,and ps3

We have the latest version of leopard on our 24" imac and we have eyeconnect ver. 1.6 we need to buy a new router and i want one that is very easy(like plug it in and walk away)to use. The main priority for this is not having problems streaming media to our ps3 via eyeconnect or medialink. Wireless or wired whatever would be the best i have never actually had an airport only linksys and have been unhappy with most of them any advice welcome about the router or getting eyeconnect to be recognized by the ps3 once its hooked up. What I have in my house is an Airport Extreme with it's two (n,b or g) wireless connections for older non-N wireless connections. I then got a D-Link DGS-2208 10/100/1000Mbps 8-Port Desktop Green Ethernet Switch 8 for fast subnet sharing in the house. This speed is important for HD video sharing for from the external I have connected to the USB2 port on My Extreme.
Note: My Extreme is in "Bridged mode" because it sits behind a wired router that acts as the DHCP server.
Getting a router with Gig Ports and and USB2 port for an external to store/share files (videos mainly) to all my networked devices. The USB2 port on the Extreme was the deciding factor for the extra cost and this handy port making any USB2 external into a networked drive. Plus my older iPhone 3GS only does G it was a no-brainier because of the dual wireless.
The GIG switch is future proofing yourself for the years to come.
Plus I called the extreme but it is a Time Capsule that is just and extreme with a built-in disk.
One more thing: Use CAT6 cables in your network.

Need suggestion in forms migration and database migration

We have currently forms 6 (not 6i) applications in Novell 4.
and our db is 9iR2 in RHEL AS 3. which is running for more than 8 years.
our management has decided to go for the migration....
Before one month i searched in the web and i came up with the solution as like below.
1. convert forms 6 to 10g and deploy using Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 (this is the latest version for forms and repots) in RHEL AS 4.8
2. upgrade 9ir2 db to 10gr2 db in RHEL AS 4.8
But now...my manager is asking me to go for the latest version.
that is....
1. forms 11g or the latest supporting version (Fusion middleware) in windows/Linux (choose the best one)
2. 11gR2 db in rhel 5.3 or above
so, please suggest me....which version i should go?
which type of combination will be better?
i cannot install oracle application server 10gR3....am i correct? it will not support forms and reports to deploy.
i hope somebody will help me in this regarding....

According to my knowledge there is no option to update the backend system by using the scanned PDF file like adobe forms. It is advisable to design the adobe form by seeing the paper document & updating the backend system.

I have an existing report server (Native Mode) and a pre-configured report server database. I have created a new database and want to assign it new report server database. How can i automate this process using powershell?
Here is the detail requirement
If there is a Report Server database seeded on the xxxxx server, follow the below steps:
◾Click the Database button on the left. Click on the Change Database button, choose option Choose an existing report server database. Enter the RPT server name (e.g. xxxxxx) in Server Name text box and click Next.
◾In the Report Server Database selection, select the ReportServer database. Then click next button to complete the process.
Any help in this regard will be very much helpfull.

I have one exchange server with fourteen server databases. One these server databases is housing 15 mailbox databases (user mailboxes databases) of these fifteen mailbox DB's all have the same search problem in both the inbox and
sent items. They all have the problem in outlook 2010 on their desktop and in Outlook Web APP - Everything I read refers to suggests a reseed of the database, since its effecting all 15 mailboxes in one server database I'm thinking I have to reseed
the one server database a DAG copy - again everything I read refers to a copy /DAG - I don't have a DAG.

If you don't have DAG, you need to follow the steps below to rebuild content index.
1. Stop the Microsoft Exchange Search and Microsoft Exchange Search Host Controller services.
2. Delete, move, or rename the folder that contains the Exchange content index catalog.
3. Restart the Microsoft Exchange Search and Microsoft Exchange Search Host Controller services.

Is there any formula or rule that is a reference to determine the number of cores to assign to my new instance?
My new instance are going to have 900 gigas of data, and 29 gigas of memory targer, and CORES?? i don´t know it, i need help

How have been assigning the cpu_cores to existing databases and ASM ?
Please read this now, Instance Caging, which explains how can you divide CPU Cores among different database running on a server:

When you add a new instance you also need to consider about available free memory on the server and additional IOs going to the disks. If you IO is already saturated then probably need to request new storage etc.

Environment variables and their values set from within a user process has their scope and lifetime limited to the process and its subprocesses. See java.lang.ProcessBuilder class and its API documentation for setting env for a subprocess that will be started by a ProcessBuilder instance. Even in the C programming we have the same limitation for the environment.
Since they are not globally set, system command like env or Java method like System.getenv() can't see them.

Building New SQL Server To Migrate from Old one and need to figure out how I need to license it.

So my head is spinning on setting up a New SQL Server.
Current setup is Microsoft Server 2003 Standard and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard. Nothing was maintained with Software assurance.
Environment:
Database is Limited to 2008 R2 Standard as Highest release I can use with it. So I know I need to do a Downgrade.
New Server can Be either Microsoft Server standard 2008 or 2012 x64.
The Domain Controller for right now is going to remain a Machine with Server 2003 Standard x86. It is Licensed with 30 Cals.
The office Environment:
The Office has any where from 5-7 employees.
They have 3 Office locations and employees are in 1 of the three locations depending on the day.
Between all 3 Offices they have 27 computers.
Employees also can access multiple machines through out the day.
Reception, Checkout and Third employee will be at their own machine.
3 Employees will be accessing their main machine but also float to at the most 6 other machines located in the office these machines are logged in in the morning using their own user name Employees don't login or logout on them throughout the day.
If they are in The Main Office they access the SQL server machine directly.
If they are in one of the two satellite offices the Employees will access the SQL server through the front end running on Terminal Services running on the SQL server.
My New Server will be Either a 4 or 6 core Xeon Processor.
So the Questions.
Lets say the scenario is I am buying Windows 2012 Server and Cals and Buying SQL 2012 Server and Cals and will be downgrading both to 2008.
How do I need to license Windows Server? How many Cals do I need and what way should they be setup?
How do I need to license SQL Server? By Server? By Core? How Many Cals do I need?

Hi,
In addition, basically a downgrade is possible in case the SQL Server editions are the same. Downgrade is only supported in case a downgrade of e.g. SQL2012 Enterprise to SQL2008R2 Enterprise is done.
I have attached a link to the SQL Server 2012 Licensing Reference Guide. Look at “Upgrades, Downgrades and Step-Ups” section of the document and check which version and editions are supported for the downgrade.

New SCVMM Server - Migrate Database From Current SCVMM Server

The hardware on which our current Virtual Manager 2012 R2/SQL Server environment resides is due for decommission.
Consequently, we are deploying a new physical server on which VMM/SQL will be located.
The new server will have a different host name from the original server.
I need to retain all the configuration etc in our current VMM environment and migrate it to the new server.
Can this be achieved by simply migrating the VMM database to the new server or are there any other steps required?

How can clone a RAC database to a new RAC environment ?
I installed Cluster and RDBMS 10g R1 in a new RAC server and I need to copy my database "dbrest" to the new server, my new database must have the same name ("dbrest"). My actual dbrest database is in ASM and I need to use ASM for the new database too.
I don't have any database in the new RAC environment.
At the end I need to have this configuration:

The largest databases that I have ever worked with barely over 1 Trillion Bytes.
Some people told me that the results of being a DBA totally change when you have a VERY LARGE DATABASE.
