Need Svet's Help! MSI GT70 492-US

I recently sent my laptop into a repair center (Non msi to my mistake) where the person replaced the motherboard with a new one. Upon replacing the motherboard the repairman also wanted me to pay for a new keyboard, stating that the keyboard was acting erratically, and is need of a repair. However, I'm starting to think it has something to do with software issues pertaining to the bios. Every key is functional, but is mapped to do something else. The letter h, for example types out the letter b. I see there's another thread extremely similar to the problem I am facing and the person found a solution, however he was not coherent in explaining the solution and was one of those people who fixes the problem without gratitude nor informational sharing. Therefore, I am pleading to the experts on here to please help me with this issue as it is extremely annoying.
Also, another generic optimus problem. With every single game I play, the white optimus light is on the power button, and FPS does not seem to correlate with the machine's expected performance. I did do quite a bit of research before typing this out but no BIOS tweaks or anything of that sort. I set the default GPU to the 675mx, ran it using the 675mx, I'm monitoring the gpu activity, everything, yet it still lacks that hmmpph and framerate drops occur in games as old as SPORE.
Please note that I am very willing to donate for a private bios or EC or ANYTHING that will be the god-like solution to the many problems I am facing now, and faced before the "repair of this laptop". So from anything like being able to overclock the monitor above the 60hz intel-forced limit, to overclocking the CPU; I am willing to pay.
Thanks in advance!

you can create a bootable USB key by following this guide:
http://www.bay-wolf.com/usbmemstick.htm
once done extract all files that i give you and copy them to the USB stick
then reboot notebook and press F11 and then select the USB key to boot from
when you see A:\ or C:\, type:
ecall.bat [ENTER]
Alrighty, these instructions seem easy enough. It seems to be taking quite a while to format the usb disk, so in this time, I'd like to get straight to the money stuff. How easy is it to use your legendary software edits? I am definitely not as tech-savvy as most people on here so I really don't want to screw up my system, yet I am very much willing to gamble to improve the performance of my pc. Will we speak on a 1-on-1 basis to tweak my pc? I'm completely new to this, sorry for all the questions.

Hello again my friend, yes it's me again. Here's a screenshot from our last bios flash you helped me out with. • MSI GT70 2PE-1616NE (Dominator Pro) - help needed

If I buy MSI GT70 2PE-1616NE laptop, and if I want to clean install Windows 7 into it (it becomes with Windows 8.1 pre-installed), do I have to configure something, why I ask is that this laptop has 256 Gb SSD MSI Super RAID and I assume that it needs some configuring to get it work like it should. It's not like HDD though.

No, you shouldn't need to configure anything except changing some settings in the BIOS (set it to boot in Legacy mode), and I would also ensure that you use the MSI Burn Recovery tools to make a recovery DVD(s) or recovery USB, in case you decide to ever go back to Windows 8.

  • MSI GT70 Help with finding NVIDIA drivers

I just bought an MSI GT70 which has a Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M GPU. I tried updating to the latest driver detected by my Nvidia Experience  (v.320.490) but, it gave me an error that it is unable to install because the hardware cant be detected. I tried the next best thing which is the main Nvidia website. When I tried the Detect my Gpu button and it detected it it said "Your product manufacturer requires you to download a driver for your device from their website". So I went to the MSI website but I can't seem to find the notebook driver. Also tried the Live Update but that seems to only update your inegrated graphics. I need some help updating my GPU guys. Thanks in advance.

    http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT70-2OD.html#download
Thanks It Installed but I'm afraid I hit a road block. You see when I installed the driver I tried to go the Nvidia Control Panel and I couldn't find it. I checked my Nvidia Experience and it says that my driver is up to date but when I looked at My Rig panel but the GPU section is blank. Thought it was odd so i went to Device Manager to check whats up. Under Device Status I had this message "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". I tried restarting the laptop a few times with an extremely horrible results. Every time I restarted my computer just started with a black screen and froze there ( I waited 30 minutes and I'm sure that was enough to know it froze). Although I did find a back door which was um.. I'm not sure which Fx it was because I just spammed them all ( this was after the multiple restarts). This took me to a menu which gave me the option to start windows normally able to access the laptop. From here I thought to Roll Back the driver. To my luck this was a success now my computer works fine and I am able to access the Nvidia control panel like nothing happen. I'm sure it the correct driver since its the same laptop I bought. Now this is were I need help from you guys any ideas why the driver is doing this? ( Oh and I re-downloaded and installed the driver a few times so I know there is a problem.) Sorry for the trouble and Thanks in advance.

  • Need advices on MSI GT70 0ND-612AU

    Hello everyone,
I'm from Australia and was planning to get a MSI GT70 0ND-612AU laptop recently. I'm planning to do some minor upgrade at starts but not sure how hard will it be to get this done, the following will be some of my concern (I'm not an IT person so the following description or terms that i used could be wrong), please advice
    1. Add mSATA 120GB SSD as a primary drive and the stock HDD (1TB 5400rpm) as secondary: From what i heard was the OS (windows 8) does not comes with the system in hardcopy (Disc) as it has already installed on the original HDD along with the recovery partition. How am i suppose to install the Windows on a SSD that i'm gonna add and used as a primary drive? because there might be some issue that i heard such as BSOD / bugs or errors due to hardware changes / SSD does not perform faster than the stock HDD as it wasn't optimized properly / Adaptor board missing ...etc.
Preferred fresh install as i heard migration potentially cause errors.
P.S. Any tutorials or external guidance links will be appreciate.
    2. GTX675MX GDDR5 2GB / 4GB VRAM confusion: I've seen a lot different MSI model (inc UK / Australia) and from different online stores' description some stated the same graphic card model that comes with 2GB VRAM and some with 4GB VRAM. How am i be able to identify the differences? At first i thought 2GB VRAM is only available on GTX675M and 4GB VRAM was on GTX675MX, but i still saw some online specs saying GTX675MX 2GB VRAM.
    3. Applying Arctic Silver 5 or MX on CPU & GPU: Do i need to do this once i bought the laptop or can i use for a year and apply later? Any tutorial on how to apply these on GT70 0ND?
    Thank you for your attention.

    https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/uploads/156/MS-1762_Disassembly_guide.pdf
That's the assembly guide PDF, that pretty much explains how to take apart the entire notebook. Very helpful.
Make the restore disks. Those will allow you to reinstall the stock software again. Install the SSD, and probably remove the HDD, and then install using the restore disks. It should work just fine.
Well, all I can say is I haven't heard of any migration issues at all so far. I've seen a few people complain, but they didn't really know what they were doing and that's why they had problems.
Honestly, it should say what GPU and how much VRAM it has. 2GB vs 4GB is a moot point to be perfectly honest. This card is similar to a GT650 in the desktop world. 2GB of VRAM is great for those cards. If you want to pay for the 4GB version, by all means go ahead. I just don't believe it will help you at all, and remember, that's just my opinion. It's your laptop, buy what you want.
Hello darkhawk, thank you for your reply again.
Thanks for the PDF, will definitely read that! I'll try do some research on how to create a restore disk then Just wants to make all this clear before i make a move to pick one unit up.
U probably right, migration might not have any issue as you said if done professionally. The reason why i'm worried because i'm pretty much have no idea how this should be done properly lol X-D, i can felt that if i'm gonna do this most likely i will encounter lots of problems lol.
I completely understand what you mean by the GPU. One of the reason that why am i attracted to it is because it's only $3 AUD different (the only different was one that comes with 750GB 7200rpm HDD with 2GB GTX675MX 2GB VRAM ($3 AUD less) and the other one that i'm looking at was 1TB 5400rpm HDD with 4GB VRAM). lol
    Cheers

  • MSI GT70 DOMINATOR 2PC + MSI afterburner help ¡¡¡

Hey guys need your help, im new on gaming laptops, so this it's my problem, recently i bought an MSI GT70 2PC with GTX 870m, download the msi afterburner to check the temperatures of the graphics card, but dont let me do anything, only i can change the clock and nothing more, why happens that? anyone know how can modify the fan speed, because my graphics card got 75-80 ªc when i play

The absolute maximum of the GPU is 93 C, at that temperature it should clock down automatically - if you stay below 90 C everything is OK; my readings hover on about 80 - 85 C max.
With this you probably could set the fan to about 60 -70% with much less noise and decent cooling if you want to be on the safe side:

    Hello !!
The Bios configuration depends on many factors.....but we do not know anything about your configuration. ( CPU, RAM, Powersupply.....)
If you need HDD Speed, RAID 0 will be a good Option and you should consider it.
Both Controllers, Silicon Image & nvidia, have the same speed. But i think you can not attach Optical drives to the Silicon Image Controller. ( if someone has other experiance please post )

    Hello,
I recently purchased the MSI GT70 0ND us492 and loving it!

In order for my linux to recognize my geforce card (for CUDA and graphics in Ubuntu) on my virtual machine I require IOMMU support.
I know that the CPU chip supports VD-t (intel's IOMMU) but i have no idea about the motherboard inside the notebook.
I can't event find the motherboard name in the notebook.
I would love some help, or at least to know if it's supported.
maybe i need to update my BOIS?
Edit: if i need to update bios how do i know if i need to flash the x50 or the x70 version (AHCI or RAID)?
    Thanks a lot!

If your laptop is running the SUPER-RAID or you have two Hard Drives in RAID then you need the RAID BIOS, if your OS is intalled on one HDD your need the AHCI.
I believe you have the same exact model I do so you want the one WITH RAID.
I'm not sure of this but you may need to have Svet unlock your BIOS to see the Virtualization options. See this thread for more information on that.

  • MSI GT70 2PC Dominator Battleship – EpisodeⅠ

    [Introduction]
[Roberts  are the dream of every man] one of my close fellows said. Actually, I am not a 3C fans. But it is really excited that Titan Fall is online now. So I made a tough decision that I never did it before. I purchased the [MSI GT70  2PC Dominator] with last year bounds.
    [Open box article]
Finally, the shipment is coming today. It is true that now is one of my happiest moment in life. I put down all my work and start to share my new toy for everyone.
    Note:
It is sad that I only have a phone next to me. Please forgive me those non-quality and non-professional pictures in article.
That is cool that we can find a big case with MSI log and an extra backpack in package.
There is MSI log on the top of box. Furthermore, I must said the Dragon log is so fashion and beautiful. That is a nice backpack which we can carry it outside anytime.
There is an extra soft layer behind the backpack. It improves the comfortable and air permeability  for user.
In my own opinion, I like this kind of design.
Let’s check what surprise us in box.
We could see the label of GT70 2PC spec on the side of box.
MSI really provide the multi-protection for their products. There are two more cases inside.
We can find MSI gaming mouse/ SteelSeries SIBERIA V2 gaming headphone in box. Besides, there is a small and special box which has MSI Log. We will check it later.
All right. I think we can throw away the empty box now.
Wait a minute!!! The box is still so heavy. It must be something else that we didn’t take out.
Oh well, I see. There is a warranty service book and driver CD in the right side.
Also, battery and adapter are behind the cover.
    Let’s take a family picture.
    We have quick guide/MSI rromotional materials/manual for F3 recovery/driver CD for Win8.1/Warranty service book/ Windows 8.1 guide
Oh my god. There is a signet in that special box. Dragoon postmark is so elegant.
    SteelSeries  SIBERIA V2 Full-Size headset.
Furthermore, it supports 4 different languages. You can find the spec on its box.
Wow. MSI log is on the headphone. Totally, It is customized for MSI brand!!!
Another dragon army log on headphone.
MSI didn’t forget the inside of headphone. A beautiful shield is on it.
SteelSeries also promote this headphone on its website. It is so popular.
    http://steelseries.com/products/audio/steelseries-siberia-v2
Now, let’s show SteelSeries KINZU V2 mouse.
Mouse supports 4 different languages, too. We also can find the spec on box.
However, there is no driver CD in box…LOL. How do I use it? We only can find the cute mouse and manual.
Sorry, my bad. We can download the driver and firmware from SteelSeries official website.
    http://steelseries.com/products/mice/steelseries-kinzu-v2
Of course, there is a powerful dragon on mouse pad.
    Take a mouse family picture.
180W adapter is just like a big strong brick. It is designed by most famous industry DELTA. You can find all kinds of safety signatures on it. It is powerful and undefeatable on playing game.  But please understand that I didn’t suggest dear readers to use it as a weapon to throw/hurt people!!!
The battery is 7800mAh. And you can see all kinds of safety signatures on it.
Finally, our rock star is coming.
The laptop is surrounding by a lot of soft foams.
Huge dragon shield log on it.
Take off the black jacket. Then, we can see a nonwoven fabric inside the plastic bag.
    Game start!!
This universe battle cruiser will help me dominate all my enemies in game .
We can find the security lack/power jack/ RJ45 port/D-SUB/m-DP/HDMI in back. The sales man said it can also support three external displays at same time. I must try the solution by myself when I get my new screens.
On the left side, there are USB3.0 port/Card Reader/HiFi headphone port (According to the spec, it will increase 30% audio performance). I can’t wait to listen my favorite music with it.
I didn’t forget my lovely BD. It also has BD reader/writer and 2 USB2.0 on the right side.
I can’t stop myself to take another wonderful photo with the MSI logo and upper case.
I have a feeling that my dominator is ready fight.
There is a [SteelSeries] LOGO on the  left side. What a surprise it is. YA! We have SteelSeries keyboard on GT70. Absolutely, this is a gamer dream. Best Keyboard vendor SteelSeries and Top Gaming NB brand MSI are working together! It is totally worth for me.
DYNAUDIO, the leader of audio industry. As you know, BUGATTI’s sport cars use the DYNAUDIO. And  MSI is the first notebook in world with this sound of Danish pride.
    HA!HA!
I’m listening the best sound as rich people sitting in their sport cars. It feels great.
    http://www.dynaudio.com/int/multimedia_sound/index.php
There are many thoughtful buttons on middle cover.  (Power/Airplane mode/display on&off/Gaming button/Caps Luck/Num lock).
More convenience buttons, media/turbo fan/backlight LED.
We also have Bluetooth/WLAN/battery/sleep/disk indicators in front of laptop.
Here is GT70 spec and signatures form Sound Blaster CINEMA / nVIDIA /Intel.
An independent On/Off switch for touch pad.
Built-in Camera and Mic on the display.
You can see the thermal design and the battery when we check the back side.
The silver part is our bass. Just like the cannon on our battleship.
    What is under the battery?
The left side is the safety signatures for GT70 and its WLAN.
The right side is Win8 LOGO and serial number.
Now we know my baby is born on February.
    [Power on]
Gee!the Log is shining when the system is. power on .
The keyboard is just like the most beautiful rainbow that I’ve never seen. It is stunning. Honestly, my cheerful tear is dropping.
    Anyway, Titanfall, I’m coming.
What? Something pops up when I attach the network.
    What is [Killer Network Manager]?
Wow. Now I know that Killer high-performance networking products combine intelligence, control and superior networking speed for HD video, high quality audio, and online games. That’s great. I hate the evil [LAG] in game.
    https://www.qca.qualcomm.com/products/killer-technology/
After the quick test, it is time to install my game.
I find a secret app in the tray of task bar during the game installation.
YA! That is SSE (Steelseries Engine). I can set my own hotkey, backlight LED and combo key with this good friend.
SSE is a smart app. It recognized my GT70 and my mouse immediately when I launch the app.
Sorry again. I was wrong because I don’t need a mouse driver. The SSE can control all of the actions. It is so sweet.
It is the time to say goodbye. Titanfall is calling. See you on battlefield!!!

  • MSI GT70 202US upgraded to win 8.1. Lots of issues

    hi,
i recently upgraded my msi gt70 202us from win 7 to win 8.1 to increase the performance on BF4.
i am facing alot of problems. i just hate this lan card. bigfoot killer networks has the most unreliable hardware and drivers. i cant get the software or the drivers to install. upon trying to install the latest version Bigfoot Networks Killer Network Manager 6.1.0.603 (64Bit) i am getting an error saying
"Your hardware is not supported on this version of windows. The installer cannot continue"
although this version is compatible with win 8.1 as said on the website.
I am trying to just install the drivers and that is not working either.
I tried installing the earlier version, that didnt help either.
and i cannot get the keyboard backlight to work or the eject cd tray option. can someone please help me with this.
and on additional note i would like to update the bios aswell. can someone please help me with that too. I havent updated my bios ever, but i have upgraded from win 7 to 8.1. as i read somewhere upgrading the bios on my model which came with win 7 is not suitable. is there a safe way to update bios.

    Quote from: James D on 24-December-13, 03:10:50
If your laptop came with Windows 7 then you should install Windows 7 BIOS only. However if you want all keys work then install Firmware for Windows 8.
    Again, James, you are wrong.
Re-read your sentence again (if you can understand your own sentences).....
They do NOT need to install the Firmware (or EC firmware) in order for it to work in Windows 8. They need to stay with the Windows 7 EC firmware that originally came installed on their laptop. SCM and everything else work just fine under Windows 8 (and 8.1.....if it works at all) using the EC firmware for Windows 7. How do I know this? I have a Windows 7 based GT70 with everything working fine in Windows 8. Not only this, but it's been said over and over and over. Apparently still hasn't sunk in yet though for some people.
Its ok, these things can get very confusing for some people.

  • Adding mSATA/mSSd to a MSI GT70 2OD-407US

    Hi,
I'm a new owner of an MSI GT70 (wife finally let me buy one). I'm not at all new to modding computers of varies calipers. I honestly haven't been in the game in 3 years and coming back up the ladder because the technology has changed. I've kinda been in a geeks purgatory(married and in the ARMY), so life's been really busy for me and has not allowed me to keep up with current tech.
My Question. Modding my GT70 2OD-497US:
MAXing RAM to 16GBs, Easy. that's a no brainer.
where I need help is adding mSata/mSSD to my MSI to use it as a boot drive for the Window 7 Home Premium it comes with.. Thinking about add 128/256GB as boot and recovery as well as other important files and using the 1 TB 7200RPM HDD as pure storage to run programs, videos, movies, and music off of. (I'm not a big gamer)
I have not received my MSI yet and won't touch it for another month or so. I have plenty of time to figure it out. This question been raking my brain for a week, so that's why I'm post for some help.
Any information no matter if you're "talking above my head or not" is highly appreciative. If I think I don't know what you're talking about I will ask questions and do tons of research.. I used to be at the top of the GEEK food chain, but starting at the bottom now. I don't mind admitting that. The Army and marriage takes a lot of my time.
Add-on to message: I do not know if the GT70 2OD-407US comes with the msata slot board, it should, but can't seem to verify. If not I can buy one.

So lets back this up with a number of facts.
I can't find any information about the GT70 2OD-497US so....
Does the notebook come with an SSD?
If it does, then you will have the "Super Raid" adapter that lets you put mSATA drives into the laptop.
If it does NOT, then you will NOT have the "Super Raid" adapter, and you will not be able to put mSATA drives into the laptop.....without attaining a Super Raid adapter. This is difficult. MSI will NOT sell them. If you are LUCKY, you might be able to talk to a distributor or company that offers customized MSI notebooks into selling you just the adapter, but I'm not sure they will. If they will not, you're pretty much SoL. Supposedly there was a chinese company selling the adapters, but I don't recall the name or if they still are.
In all honesty, if you don't have the adapter, I would just order a regular 2.5" SSD drive instead and live with it.
A couple of other things I can suggest.
Get at a minimum a 240/256GB SSD. You'll find that after installing Windows and such you only have roughly 75 gigs maybe left on your 128GB SSD. And I just don't think that's enough. The 240/256GB drives are cheap enough now that you shouldn't have any problems getting it.
When you partition your SSD, only partition it for about 85% of the total space (so 85% of 256GB = 215 GB). Leave the rest of it unpartitioned. This is called over-provisioning, and will help to maintain the overall speed of the SSD (read/write speed) during the entire life of the SSD. The reason it does this is because it provides more space for TRIM to work, even if you completely fill the partition you created. If you had fully partitioned the drive, and almost filled it, the speed would start to deteriorate because there isn't enough 'space' to do TRIM anymore and it has to work harder to do it, causing your overall read/write speed to decrease. This is especially bad on Samsung drives.  (for more information, go search around on www.anandtech.com, plenty of good information and benchmarks to backup my statements)
Other than those tips, you should be good to go.....BUT!
The VERY FIRST THING YOU DO AFTER LOGGING INTO YOUR NEW NOTEBOOK? Please please please create the backup DVD's! MSI does not provide backup media inside the box. You need to make these on your own using the included MSI Burn Recovery software.

  • Request for MSI GT70 0NE-609US Unlocked Bios

I bought MSI GT70 0NE-609US Dragon Edition. An I've upgraded some parts as mentioned below
Processor Intel i7 extreme 3940xm 3.0GHz (Boost 3.9GHz) Ivy Bridge
    Ram Corsair 32GB (8x4) 1866 MHz
Gaming Graphic Card Nvidia GeForce GTX 680M 4GB
Hard Drive mSATA SSD Mushkin Atlas III 480GB (240X2)
2nd Hard Drive Corsair Neutron GTX 480GB
Win 8 Pro with media center
    Bios E1762IMS.70U
As you see I have an ultimate laptop. But the problem ud that the laptop not giving the performance that I'm looking for.
When I  checked with CPU-Z i found that the CPU, GPU and RAM not giving their full perfornane. For exalmple the RAM. it should be 1866MHz but in CPU-Z it shows that it works only on 900 MHz which is almost 50% of what it should be.Even the CPU & GPU same problem. When I google I found that there is some sitting in bios need to be increased. But unfortunatily my bios is locked and I cannot do anything for ram cpu and gpu.also I need to overclock gpu & cpu and get maximum performance using this laptop
So if anyone can help me in this issue will be highly appreciated. Thanks

CPU-Z reads 900? That is correct for 1800. DDR=Double Data Rate, 2X900=1800. Probably produce too much excessive heat anyway even if the BIOS was unlocked and the VGA and CPU were OC'd.

900 means 1800 as Froggy said
I can unlocked the BIOS and you can play with memory timings and speed. But your ram is already running in near top shape.

GPU OC is not depend of BIOS, but vbios
about CPU, yes some blck which to allow some OC could be possible,
but its not guaranteed. some people report that they has no effect, while others can get some further CPU OC.
