Need tech-book style book to learn Netbeans 6.5 with Javafx

I am having a heck of a time geting started with Netbeans 6.5 JavaFx. Everytime I download code into my IDE I get all types of errors that I can't overcome. I have recently completed a text book course in Java by Lewis and Loftus. The book starts with the basics and work up. Most of the tutorials that I find on JavaFX start with huge amounts of code which is very confusing to people trying to learn this terminology. Can anybody direct me to a tech-book style book on Netbeans 6.5 with JavaFX or is it too early for such a book.

Any tutorial about JavaFX dated prior to December 8 2008 should be disregarded utterly by a beginner.
There are significant differences and trying to figure them out from old tutorials is futile!
Books are coming, search Amazon, there is a title by Weiqi Gao or James Weaver (Jim Weaver).

  • Need a simple book to learn OO design

    Hi all,
I need a book which teaches OO design concepts using Java examples. I have 3 years programming experience in Java web applications. I partially read the GoF book(rather it is fair to say I read portions of the book many times) but seems hard to understand. I need to learn how to identify objects, how to design the interaction between objects, .... .
Is there any suitable book for me. I need a book which is for developers and not academicians.

I think I need book to learn OO Analysis rather than
design. I was totally confused when I posted this
message her first time as what I need to learn. Only
if I could identify the objects and its behaviours
and responsibiliites I could design it. Can the
patterns book will help me ?. I need easy to
understand book on Object Oriented Analysis.I think what you want is called 'experience.' OO is like chess, many books will explain it and give you the fundamentals and ideas. However, the only way to learn it is to play it.
You will learn over time as you work with it. Keep that GOF book handy as I still have not found a better reference.
Patters are more a way to explain what you have done and communicate your ideas, than a way to design a program. I never inserted a pattern into my software, but often I realize what I just created fits a certain patters. Furthermore, the pattern you are looking at is often a matter of your perspective.

  • Beginner in need of book recommendation

I'm a beginner to CS3 Flash and in need of book or tutorial
recommendations. I have the Flash "Classroom in a Book" and it's
been somewhat helpful. However, a lot of what I want to do, is
import parts of a collage print from CS3 photoshop and animate
them. I am having problems with importing layers from Photoshop and
animating these layers in Flash. Are there any books or tutorials
that go into more detail on this aspect of flash? The other book
that I'm thinking about is Peachpit's Adobe Flash CS3 Professional
    Hands-On Training. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

I go. I am happy with the site layout and the way it works, but all
of the text is in jpeg form, which means search engines are limited
to the page titles. Is there a way to keep the layout but make the

Yes, the question makes perfect sense.
Fireworks is a graphics program. The HTML that Fireworks
produces is intended for prototypes - quick examples you can show
people to see if you're on the right track with a design. The
Fireworks HTML is not robust enough to use for a production site.
What you want to do is use either a program that's designed for
creating robust HTML (such as Dreamweaver) or learn to write HTML
by hand in a text editor. It isn't really that hard.
What you have now is a mess. It would be impossible to
maintain. Just looking at your file info%20links.HTML is a
nightmare. It doesn't need to look like that...and it shouldn't.
(Also, naming conventions. That %20 is what happens to spaces in
your file name. It's better to remove spaces or use hyphens
instead. Underscores are okay, but they tend to get lost if a file
name is also a link and becomes underlined. Use lowercase for file
    extensions.)
Even if you have Dreamweaver or another Web authoring
program, you really ought to learn what it is you're doing. Check
    out
    this
    earlier thread for some recommendations.
    Good luck!

  • Suggest a good book for learning?

    Hey, all.
Trying to get into the automating/scripting thing as I've started a new job that has to do a lot of versions of similar animations/illustrations. I'm no programmer, but have had some success with simple AppleScripts in Illustrator and Photoshop, but After Effects doesn't like to play nice with AS. So I figure I may as well focus my efforts on ExtendScript/JavaScript to work with all the apps, be cross-platform, plus help with my limited Expressions knowledge.
So can anyone suggest some good books for learning the JavaScript language? I've done online tutorials, which have helped a little, but just a big ol' consolidated JavaScript book, teaching the structure and syntax from the beginning (again, not a programmer by trade) would be best for me. Thing is, 95% of the books I've looked at are focused on web design, which I'm not that interested in. I'll use one if the core JavaScript teachings are well-presented and I can just ignore the web stuff; just don't want to buy a book that I'm only going to read half of and not learn everything I need to.
All suggestions welcome, and thanks in advance.

Hi there - lots of resources...
Look up "eloquent javascript" online for a pdf.
    Javascript - The Definitive guide
    NewThinkTank on youtube
    Codeacademy
Then it's the scripting guide for the other half.

  • Good book for learning code

Hi, I know that book recommendations come up frequently in this forum but my need is somewhat specific.
I need a book that will help me learn actionscript 3 and provide examples so that I can enter the code, think about it and see it work.
Can anyone recommend a book that will do this? Many thanks.

Your question isn't unique, but the answers to it vary based on who ends up providing a response.  I have collected numerous such responses to help make answering your question faster and more complete.  I do not use books, so I cannot personally recommend any of them, but they have all been recommended by knowledgeable folks over time in these forums.  I have to believe that any one of them rely on showing examples that you can try and learn from...

  • Best Complete Tech Book of Crystal 2008 for Developers

Can someone recommend a really good Crystal 2008 tech book with TIPS , tricks and ideas for DEVELOPERS?
    Thanks,
    Tanya.

Really? I have never seen a bad review on it.
Yes I have it and I don't need any other book for CR2008. My copy is getting very dog-eared.
You can probably find a copy at your favorite bookstore to peruse so you can decide for yourself. One of my co-workers found ia copy at Barnes and Noble recently-I had to order one.

  • Recommened book for learning PL/SQL

I've been trying to learn PL/SQL from Oracle's documentation, and I'm a bit tired of it.
All the information is there, but you really need to scan back and forth to collect all the bits you need. It is rather difficult.
Can you recommend a good book? I want to learn all the idea and concepts, not just the syntax. So please don't direct me to "Learn PL/SQL in 21 days".
    Thanks.

It may be true that one can get away with documentation. However, it greatly depends on your background. If you learn language X, and this is your very first exposure to programming, you won't find documentation inspirational. You will suffer with badly chosen textbook too. As you progress, the matter of a good book becomes less and less important. You may find that for learning your second language you don't need a book, and this is especially true in the era of internet, when there is a great competition among web tutorials.
My apology for not being specific, but the matter of finding a good book is easy -- you just go to amazon, find several with high ASR, and chose the one based upon readers reviews. You will unlikely to expect better feedback to your question here.

Restore from the backup you had prior to installing Mavericks.
However, the upgrade should not have altered your partition scheme. Did your erase and format the drive prior to upgrading?

  • Need to book & pay outward freight before Receipt of FG - Subcontracting

    Dear All,
" In case of Subcontracting, we are required to pay both, Outward Freight on material sent to Party for Job Work & Inward Freight on Material received from the party. While raising PO, the Freight amount is considered to include both Inward & Outward Freight but only single Freight GRN is prepared on receipt of Material. Unless GRN is prepared we are unable to book Outward Freight Bill in SAP thru MIRO & process payment."
We need to book & pay the outward freight before GRN( Receipt of FG) and load the freight cost on Material.
    Regards,
    PKSharma

    Hi,
If I book the Outward Freight through MIRO before GRN system will not load the correct amount on Material as at the time of
GRN we have to book Inward Freight cost also.
    Thanks

  • EPub vs. PDF for tech books

I'm trying to settle on preferred formats for reading tech books (full of graphic elements) and text-only books (novels, non-fiction expository works) on my iPad2.
PDFs are limited because they lack the page-turning metaphor in iBooks. (Although I've read that Adobe has added tools to inDesign that do support reflowing text, I have no idea whether a properly tagged pdf would support the "swipe to turn the page" UI metaphor in iBooks, nor how one would or could know that a pdf is appropriately tagged to do so).
On the other hand, when I read an ePub book enhanced with graphic elements such as tables, anything beyond a simple text-only table doesn't survive magnification (too small to read at default sizing, too blurry to read when double-tapped). That's especially true for screenshots of dialog boxes or other captures of computer screen elements). Is that a limitation of the ePub format, or is it possible for the ePub to be created so that it's graphic elements are resolution-independent?
    Thanks so much,

Minute by minute, I'm vacillating between the two formats. For exploration, I'm using ePub and pdf copies of Robin Williams and John Tollet's Mac OS X 10.7 Lion: A Quick Refernce Guid to Mastering Lion! A few more confounding variables:
I can see why the "page swipe" thing doesn't influence you (in pdf format, the same gesture goes back and forth between pages, just without the curling page.
It's not possible to make notes while reading a document in pdf format.
It's virtually impossible to know what page to turn to in an ePub when it says "as discussed on page 27." Fortunately, many of those internal reference are accompanied by hyperlinks, which (curiously) don't work while reading in pdf format.
It's not possible to select text with the cursor while reading in pdf format (this one really surprised me).
On balance, looks as though ePub will win out for me, but I can't fathom why graphics don't scale. The curling page eye candy in ePub clearly shows that the format supports impressive on-the-fly graphics transformations.

  • Good book for learning pl/sql quickly

Please suggest me a good book that covers all aspects of pl/sql in depth.
    Thanks in advance. :-)

A good book for learning PL/SQL quickly?
That is not a function of the book. That is a function of your ability to learn and understand new concepts. No book can make you learn "faster".
Also, even before trying to learn PL/SQL, there are concepts and fundamentals to understand. Specifically:
    - [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/toc.htm]Oracle® Database Concepts
    - [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14251/toc.htm]Oracle® Database Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals
    - [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14261/toc.htm]Oracle® Database PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference
And after that, also have a look at Application Developer's Guide - Large Objects, Application Developer's Guide - Object-Relational Features. Not to mention the SQL Reference and the PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference guides.

    Howdy.
I can't say which is best, but I like  the Visual Quickstart Guide from Peachpit Press. I have it for Photoshop and Illustrator. As the title states, it's for a quick start. A concise description of every tool and option, with simple, easy to follow instructions with screen shots. I have Photoshop CS3, and have well over 10,000 hrs in Ps and have several newer Ps books. But my tattered old Visual Quickstart Guide for Ps 6 is still my first resource when questions arise.
So far as Illustrator goes, I'm only about 100 hours into it, and so far, so good. But it could be just be a case of ignorance is bliss. Mike has thoughtfully posted the link for Peachpit Press above. You can check it out yourself.
    Peace,

P.S. Here's a direct link to the guide for Illustrator.
