Need TFTP server
I am trying to update a 4402 WLC, but all the tftp server programs I have tried fail due to the large file size.
Is there any one particular server recommended for this purpose?
Your help will be appreciated.
Denis
I successfully use TFTPD32 to do my upgrades. It's free and works well. I'm using V3.03 with no problems.

How to Setup Windows TFTP Server in Windows 2008 R2
Hi,
Can anyone please let me know, how to install TFTP Server in Windows 2008 R2.
I installed Windows Deployment Service to get TFTP (got this info in some forum), but I did not see TFTP Service in the Service Manager.
I am a newbie so plz let me know the steps in details.
Thanks in advance.James, WDS ships with a TFTP server as part of the suite of services that are required to boot from the network. The information you've posted above is not correct.
Hi Aaron,
Thanks for your clarification. Towards the WDS TFTP Server, we could find the following statement below:
You use the Windows Deployment Services Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server to download the files that are needed to do a network boot using the Pre-Boot Execution Environment (PXE).
From:
WDS TFTP Server
I understand that the we could select Deployment Server and Transport Server during the WDS setup processing. However, neoraghav would like to install TFTP server from the Server Manger towards the Windows Server 2008 R2. I noticed the statement as followed:
The TFTP client is optional software, and marked as deprecated on Windows Vista® and later versions of the Windows operating system. A TFTP server is no longer provided by Microsoft for similar security issues.
From:
Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) Overview
I should make my reply as clear as possible. Sorry for confusion. :-(

Cisco Prime TFTP Server Question
Our organization recently installed Cisco Prime 1.3 on a Linux box. I am used to using the older WCS which also had a built in TFTP server. The old WCS was installed on a Windows Box and thus I was able to navigate to the TFTP server using Windows Explorer and the UNC path. However, I cannot seem to access the TFTP server on the new Prime 1.3 server via that method. I have verified that the TFTP and FTP servers are both enabled in Prime server settings and I have also verified that I can access the FTP port via a PC on the network and that the WLCs on the network are sucessfully backing up to the Prime TFTP server each night.
How can I access the TFTP server to retrieve these WLC backups if needed?you need to enable root access. then you can scp the files out of the directory easily enough.
from cli
root_enable
follow prompts
root
psswd - set password
should be abel to ssh as root at that point, if you can want to say it's /localdisk/tftp, or just ls /localdisk

Steve

Hi
I need to launch a tftp server in my box. Anyone can provide me an explanation on how to do this.
Did some research, installed the tftp-hpa, but can't connect to localhost. Any advice? There are somethings that you need to do to make your tftp server work.
1. To allow others to connect to tftp server, add this line to /etc/hosts.allow file:
in.tftpd:ALL
2. By default, tftp server does not allow your to upload file, so you need to modify the /etc/rc.d/tftpd script so that it will allow you to upload file. It will look like this:
start)
stat_busy "Starting TFTPD"
[ -z "$PID" ] && /usr/sbin/in.tftpd -l -s -c /var/tftpboot
3. Change the /var/tftpboot attribute so it allows other to upload file:
#chmod 777 /var/tftpboot
You need to manage your server because it will open a hole to others to upload files to your servers. You can control it by using /etc/hosts.allow file or using iptables.

Have a dedicated TFTP Server for CCM cluster
Hi,
One CCM3.3(3) cluster in production, in which the publisher server was the TFPT server.
Now we need expend the system and would like to deploy a dedicated TFTP Server for the cluster. Is there anyone telling me what I should concern if I have a dedicated TFTP server other than the publisher server?
Thanks,
JJHi,
I have a similar issue. I have actually a pub and a sub, the pub is also the tftp server. Following the SRND, I need a dedicated tftp server because we're almost at 1250 users, growing every day. My question, which may seem very basic, is how do I build a dedicated tftp server ? -
Service Activation for CUCM as dedicated TFTP server
Hi all,
I have used CUCM as call controld and TFTP server but never used CUCM as a dedicated TFTP server.
Do you know what serivces should be enabled on CUCM box as a dedicated TFTP server?
Version is 8.6.2a and here is what I have:
Under "CM Services"
- only tftp service is activated
Under "CTI Services"
- none is activated
Under "Database and admin Services"
- all activated but not sure they are required
Under "Performance and Monitoring services"
- all activated
Under Secuirtiy Serves
- none is active as don't needed
Thaks,
HarryIf the server is only to be used as TFTP that is the only service you need to activate.

Configuring TFTP server on a PCMCIA
I would like to know if it is possible to configure a PCMCIA card as a TFTP server and how to do so. We have a need to put large call routing files near our gatekeepers and do not have any servers or PC's close. We were wondering if it is possible to put a TFTP server (somehow) onto a PCMCIA card in a router.
Thank youthis is how you can configure a router to be TFTP server.
But I don't understand what the problem is..
If you can telnet to the router you can TFTP IOS and configs ???
Oz
Copying From One Router to Another
To do this, you need to activate the Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server on the router that has the Cisco IOS® Software image that you want to copy.
Use the tftp-server [device]:[filename] command in global configuration mode as follows:
Router#show flash
System flash directory:
File Length Name/status
1 11173264 c2500-jos56i-l.120-9.bin
[11173328 bytes used, 5603888 available, 16777216 total]
16384K bytes of processor board System flash (Read ONLY)
Router#configure terminal
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
Router(config)#tf
Router(config)#tftp-server ?
flash: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
flh: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
lex: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
null: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
nvram: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
system: Allow URL file TFTP load requests
Router(config)#tftp-server
Router(config)#tftp-server flash:?
flash:c2500-jos56i-l.120-9.bin
Router(config)#tftp-server flash:c2500-jos56i-l.120-9.bin
Router(config)#^Z
Router#
Once the tftp-server is configured, you can download the specified image from the router using the copy tftp flash command, as if it were a classic TFTP server.
Note: The IP address of your TFTP server is the address of the router on which you configured the tftp-server command. -
Can't copy IOS to a TFTP server
Hey gang-
Trying to copy the IOS from a 2950 switch to a TFTP server before upgrading the IOS. The switch can ping the TFTP server, I'm in privileged mode, I've done this many times on routers with no problems. I know that I'm typing the file name correctly, case-sensitive and all. It keeps complaining that it can't find a file by that name. I've tried it about 10 times with different variations; same results. Any thoughts?
Thanks
dave
(scroll down)
(I've tried it with and without the "/" after "flash")
Switch#copy flash:/c2950-i6q412-mz.121-13.EA1.bin tftp
Address or name of remote host []? 192.168.50.50
Destination filename [c2950-i6q412-mz.121-13.EA1.bin]?
%Error opening flash:/c2950-i6q412-mz.121-13.EA1.bin (No such file or directory
From a "show version":
Switch uptime is 7 minutes
System returned to ROM by power-on
System image file is "flash:/c2950-i6q4l2-mz.121-13.EA1.bin"I have not seen it mentioned, but one of the possible causes for the error is that the file does not exist on the destination tftp server. One of the strange security measures taken by tftp, since there is no login required, is that a file to be updated has to already exist, even if it doesn't contain any actual data.
How you go about doing this will depend upon the OS your tftp server is on, but under most unix implementations, bring up a shell, change directory to the appropriate tftp folder, (sometimes /boot, sometimes /lib/tftpdir) and 'touch' the file you are attempting to upload. In this case 'touch c2950-i6q412-mz.121-13.EA1.bin'. You will then have to change ownership to match that needed by the tftpd server (should look like the ownership for other files in the directory)
Under windows, check the instructions for your tftp server software, but you can probably open a command shell change to the appropriate dirctory, then 'echo > c2950-i6q412-mz.121-13.EA1.bin' and you should be ready to go.
One other thing to try is using two '/' characters in the command, so 'copy flash://c2950-i6q412-mz.121-13.EA1.bin tftp' would be the command to use.
Hope this helps,

Configuring Cisco TFTP Server for CUCM
Hi,
I currently have a Publisher and two Subscriber (v 6.1.3), I have now gone over the magical 1250 devices where Cisco recommend a standalone TFTP server.
I understand to deploy it I need to add it to the Publisher as a Server and then once up and running enable the Cisco TFTP service, then update the Option 150 address in my DHCP scope to point towards the new TFTP server.
A couple of questions, does the TFTP server need the following installed at the same level as the Publisher/Subscribers:
Dial Plans
Device Packs
Locales
Thanks and any other comments appreciated.Hi Ian,
- By architecture, the TFTP server would be the one pushing out the firmware load and to the phones - so you would need your device packs, containing the bundle of firmware loads, to be on your standalone TFTP server.
- locales install files which the phones get from the TFTP server, such as their dictionary - so you would need locales on the standalone TFTP server
- Dial plans are files used by the CCM binary file. If you are not planning on running CCM service on the server ever, you don't need to install dial plans on that server. However, as best practice, it is good to have dial plans, locales and device packs uploaded on this standalone TFTP server, in case the server roles were adjusted at a later point in time.

Recovery image. Topology 3602i thru 2504 controller from TFTP Server
Hi everyone! Here is my topology and I need to perform image recovery for my 3602.
3602 can be connected and powered only by 2504 controller.
How I need to configure controller to allow communication from 3602 and TFTP server???
Does all ports on controller L3 and I need to make Routing thru 2921 Router?
Or no needs to configure IP ports interfaces on controller and it will work on L2.
Please give me direction to follow and recover IMAGE.Alright! Image finally loaded!
I think it was very helpfull: Step 3 Set the timeout value on the TFTP server to 30 seconds
But image failed to boot.
But image failed to boot. -
[SOLVED] Booting a linux-embedded from a TFTP-server
Original title: "Knowing IP for a device that has nothing but a bootloader flashed"
Hello,
how can I get the IP for a device that does not have a OS flashed onto it? I mean, I can't use
# ifconfig
and using
# arp-scan --interface=eth0 --localnet
on my Linux box does not return the device which IP I need.
Suggestions?
Thank you,
Giuseppe

Apparently no IP is allocated by thre DHCP server. I think it is maybe because only the bootloader starts; I miss a OS an that device.
It is an embedded device, I can't use a live CD.
What I need to do is booting my embedded, then fetching an instance of OpenWrt via a TFTP server that's running on my linux box. But for fetching the OpenWrt img I need the IP of server and client both.

TFTP server in Jabber for Windows
Hi All,
I am attempting to setup Cisco Jabber for windows in an CUCM 8.6.2 SU1 environment with Windows client 9.1.1
I am reading the documentation about setting up the environment for On premise.
The document refers to setting up your TFTP server for the Windows Jabber client.
Is it possible to use the tftp server on CUCM for this purpose or do we need to run a seperate TFTP server for the windows jabber client to get their configurations from?
Thanks very much for any help.
Regards
alalliYes, you can use the tftp server on CUCM.
