Need time capsule help..

when I enter time machine, I click on pictures and nothing is there. Isnt this thing suppose to upload on the time capsule when you add new items? I have 13,000  pics that do not show up.

Based on lthe information in your post, the best connection method would be to connect to your Linksys router using an ethernet cable.  Connect from one of the available LAN <-> ports on the Linksys to the WAN (circle of dots icon) port on the Time Capsule
You will be able to backup over the existing Linksys wireless network and also connect directly to the ethernet ports on either the Linksys or Time Capsule if you want to perform a backup using ethernet, which will be much faster than wireless.
What I am not clear on is whether you want to configure the Time Capsule to provide a wireless network, which it is capable of doing, or whether you do not need this function.
Post back with a few more details and let us know if you need a step by step guide to get things going.
Also: had my Macbook repaired, and they backed up all info on the Time Capsule I purchased. But they didn't need to replace hard drive/memory, so when I go to backup the laptop, will this file show up, and can i just delete it?
If you don't need the data on the Time Capsule drive, you would want to erase the disk before you perform your first backup of the Mac(s). There's a procedure for that as well. Let us know if you need it.

  • I need time capsule help...

Just purchased a 2T Time Capsule (4th gen), and I can back up my new mac when the time capsule is connected to my DSL modem with an ethernet cable, but not otherwise, and the light is still flashing amber. I want to also back up my old HP laptop. HELP! I have set up the network name, and the capsule name, but it will not work unplugged, and that blinking light is driving me nuts, because that's supposed to mean it's not working. I really don't want to have to return this item.

Is your local network using WPA security? If so, then you need to provide the wireless configuration in the Time Capsule with the wireless network's name and login password. You do this using Airport Utility in the Utilities folder.
Does your AT&T modem provide both wired and wireless networks? You can configure the Time Capsule's Wireless setup to Join the wireless network your AT&T device has created. You need to know the name of the wireless network and the password you use to connect to it.

  • Time Machine Data Transfer - From FireWire Drive to Time Capsule - HELP!

Time Machine Data Transfer - From FireWire Drive to Time Capsule - HELP!
I've been searching for weeks for a solution to my problem. Here's the story I've come across since I installed Leopard on Oct. 26, 2007.
I first installed Leopard on my Early 2006 MacBook and set up Time Machine with a 200GB external FireWire drive. Since then, things have been fine, until Time Machine started deleting the oldest backups. I'm a pack-rat and hated this feeling of losing data. So, I now have a few months worth of backups on my 200GB FireWire drive.
The Time Capsule is released, I finally talk myself into getting one and transferring my old data from the 200GB drive to my 1TB TC.
I did some researching through forums about how to move data from one Time Machine drive to another, so I took the concept and wanted to apply it to my Time Capsule. I made a DMG image of my 200GB drive, in order to move the data. I figured if I can make an image, copy it, and open it on the Time Capsule - all will go smoothly - just as some had mentioned they've done with external drives.
Now, I have a 164GB DMG image of my Time Machine, with no hope in sight of gaining it back. I've tried taking the image, using Disk Utility, and restoring my original 200GB external with the imaged Time Machine data, but whenever I do, I come across error messages.
In Disk Utility, I've done the following steps:
    * Disk Image is found on Time Capsule
    * I select the 200GB drive and select 'Restore'
    * I drag and drop the Disk Image to the 'Image' field
    * I drag and drop the 200GB drive into the the 'Restore' field
    * Select 'Erase Destination'
    * Select 'Restore'
    * I get the warning message that I'll erase the drive - I proceed
    * I enter my password
    Error message pops up:
"Restore Failure: Could not find any scan information. The source image needs to be imagescanned/scanned for restore."
I select the image in Disk Utility, then proceed with the following steps:
    * Click on "Image" then down to "Scan Image for Restore"
    * I enter my password
After hours of waiting, I get another error message:
    "Unable to scan. (Broken pipe)."
I'm going to see, after transferring the DMG to the Time Capsule, if I can drag-and-drop the files from the Time Capsule drive onto the 200GB hard drive.
IF anyone has any more suggestions, please let me know!

32 updates on this Mac since December 2007 - Hardware, software, OS...
They keep coming at about 6 or 7 a month. Some of them I don't care about, but several are essential. 10.5.3 has been seeded to the testers a couple of times and will probably show up in the next few weeks. Jaguar wasn't worth a d*mn until 10.2.6, Panther about 10.3.4, Tiger about 10.4.4 - I'd say we are ahead or on schedule Too bad I can't get Apple to fix Spaces. I wish they'd focus on what I want but I guess some take more time than others.

  • Do I need time capsule hardware to run time machine?

Do I need time capsule hardware to run time machine?
I have a Mac Mini and a non-Apple 2TB sitting on a wifi network at home. Can I run Time Machine to backup from Mac Mini to non-Apple 2TB drive?

    Kappy wrote:
No. All you need is an external drive connected to the computer. But, Time Machine does not work on any NAS except the Time Capsule.
Not quite.. it will work on a NAS that has Time Machine Extensions.. many do.. the big brands.. Synology, QNAP, Netgear, etc.. and even some small one, I am using a cheapie made by zyxel works fine..
But some like buffalo have no updates to later versions of OSX.. Apple dramatically changed the way Lion handles AFP in network disks.. so plenty of companies had to release updates.

  • Time Capsule help for a complete noob to MacBook

    Hi everyone
This is been killing me for about 2 months.  Currently living in an annex down the end of my girlfriends fathers garden.  The wifi doesn't reach so I got a Time Capsule so I could use it as a router.
We've got a cable and it's run from the Time Capsule, down the garden, into the house and plugged into router in the house.
That's where I'm now stuck.  I've messed about with it and now my Macbook AirPort won't even recognise my Time Capsule.
This really needs to be in moron terms as I'm clueless.  I've spent all this money and can't get it to do what I wanted it to do.
Any help is appreciated, so thanks in advance.

    Hi LD.
Thanks for the reply.  My MacBook won't even recognise the Time Capsule, I've messed about with the netowrk settings too much I think.
    I'm really really stuck.

  • Time Capsule help setting up PS3 and game adapter

I just bought a time capsule to use as my modem and now my existing game adapter will no longer connect my PS3 to the internet. I have no idea how to fix this. Support forums tell me to type 198.250.1.1 or something like that in the address bar of safari and it never finds my adapter. Can someone please help me? I am totally lost!
    Thanks!

I presume you are running Mountain Lion and 6.2 utility.. we need to know that.
You should not need to setup the TC at all from second device.. it is setup and working on laptop.. that is enough.
On the desktop it should be accessible in the same way as the laptop.. same name same passwords etc.
If not, then fill us in on the whole network layout.
    Modem what kind.. what broadband.
    Is the Modem a router?
Is the TC plugged into the modem.. in bridge or router mode?
I guess the laptop is connected by wireless? Desktop is connected how?
Are you trying to get TM to work.
Mount the disk in finder if you can. Then you should be able to direct TM to use it.

  • Help please time capsule help please!!!!

I just bought a 500gb time capsule I'm able to hook it up to my cable modem but it keeps saying no Internet connection on my Mac how can I get it to send out a connection to the rest of my devices??I got the Internet to work on just my computer but no signal in the rest of the house... I Youtubed it but for some reason it doesn't do what there macs do... I'm running on os x lion please help me with a walk tru I'm not tech savvy but trying to get familiar with apple products!!! Thank you

Firstly reset the TC to factory.. hold down the reset for about 10sec until the front led flashes rapidly.
Then turn off everything computer or network in your house... the cable modem in particular needs to be turned off.. this can be hard if it is battery backup model. Tell us more if it is more than pure modem. ie if it is a router you should bridge the TC.
Connect the TC to the modem by ethernet.. nothing else should be connected to the modem.. connect to the TC WAN port.. ie the one next to usb.
Turn on in order after 15min (you can try 5min.. but it might take longer).
    Modem.. wait 2min
    TC.. wait 2min
Other network devices.. eg switch, if you have them.
    Client computers etc.
The TC should get the public ip on the wan interface.
If it fails try again and leave off longer time.

  • Need Time Capsule to join new existing network after Uverse box swap SSID

When I first bought my Time Capsule it was creating my wireless network.
Then last year we moved to a new house, and got Uverse service. I successfully changed Time Capsule's config to join the existing Uverse network, so the TC does backup and nothing else. (The Uverse box is in the basement, so the TC connects to that network and all client machines over the Uverse wifi.)
Now I just had problems with Uverse (lost voice service, and so they swapped their box, which means I have a new SSID (and password). So I need to change the config of the TC to join the different existing network. I've tried connecting an Ethernet cable to both the WAN and other-Ethernet ports on the back of the TC, but the Airport Utility on that desktop still doesn't recognize the TC.
    What do I do?

    Welcome to the discussions!
The problem is that the ethernet ports on the TC are not enabled when it "joins", so that type of connection between your computer and the TC won't work.
The other issue is that the TC is remembering the old wireless network and you can't access it that way any longer.
You'll need to perform a "hard reset" on the TC by holding in the reset button until the amber light blinks more quickly, then reconfigure the device using the settings from the new wireless network.
This will not affect your existing backups, but you will need to reset Time Machine to point it as the Time Capsule again.
    Open System Preferences
    Click Time Machine
    Click Select Disk
    Click your Time Capsule
    Click Use for Backups

  • Itunes Library on time capsule-Help please.

I read this can be done to free up some room. I made a copy of my music folder in time capsule, pointed to it with itunes, but the file paths in itunes do not change. I made sure my time capsule was mounted, held option, launched itunes, selected the itunes folder in my time capsule, & still had no luck. This was the main reason why i purchased the device. Can someone tell me how this is done?

Please, dear Apple friends, help me! Itunes is driving me crazy....
I thought I had the solution; i created a new library folder on my TC, copied all my music files to the library in the itunes window. After copying one night and one day (which is strange, since all the files essentially already were placed on the TC, but anyway), I got an error warning saying that the copying had stopped because of a fault with file ". What this is, I dont know.
And besides that, half of the songs which were copied have the hated ! - symbol which means they cant be found...
It's so frustrating to have more than 25 gigabyte of music and not being able to play songs. Hopefully someone has a useful tip, because I'm starting to dislike Itunes. And I dont want that!
    Thanks

  • Cannot setup time capsule - Help!

    Hoping someone can help me.
We had time capsule setup and the backups were working great since February.   One day, we started to get constant errors that backup could not take place.  Not sure, but we think it occurred after we had a power failure and the same day we did a security update.
We did something and it worked again, but then it totally stopped working.  After going on the boards and reading other posts, we deleted the data on the time capsule and reconfigured it.  Suddenly, we could no longer get air port utility to find the time capsule.
No matter what we do, we cannot get airport utility to find it.  Any suggestions?

You might find useful advice on this Web page: Time Machine Troubleshooting.

  • Does Time Capsule help to manage my mac's local storage?

My mac is running out of local storage. I was hoping that Time Machine would be smart enough to move files that I don't use from my local machine to Time Capsule. Is there a way to turn this on?

No.   And you don't want to do that anyway.  If your data is important, you need to have (at least) two copies of it, in two separate places.  That's kind of the first rule of a backup strategy.
If you're using Time Machine to back up your Mac to the TC, don't delete items from your internal HD, as TM won't keep it's backup copies of those items forever.  See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #20 for details.
If you're not sure if there's lots of unnecessary stuff on your Mac, see Where did my Disk Space go?
Assuming you don't find much you can delete, your best bet is to get an external HD for the overflow, and format it for a Mac (see #1 in Using Disk Utility for instructions).  Manually copy things to the external HD, by dragging & dropping via the Finder, then delete them from your Mac. If you have a large iPhoto and/or iTunes library, those would be good candidates for stuff to move.
Then let Time Machine back up both your Mac and the external HD to your Time Capsule.  See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #32 for details on that.

  • Two Airport Expresses   Time Capsule Help

    Hi,
I am at my wits end in regards to my wireless network. Here is my configuration:
I have an ATT Uverse 2 Wire 3800HGV-B internet wireless router (wireless turnedd off), 2 Airport Expresses (1st generation), an Airport Time Capsule (4th Generation), a new iMac running 10.8.4, a Mac Mini running 10.7.5, iPhone 5's, iPhone 4, iPad 2nd gen, IPad 3rd gen.  The U Verse acts as the router and the TC is set to bridge mode. The TC is set to transmit 802.11n 2.4ghz & 5ghz, both AE's are set to 802.11n 2.4 ghz only. The TC and both AE's have same wireless network name for the 2.4ghz network and braodcast on different channels. I currently have each device set to "create a wireless network".  Two story home with R Foil construction seems to inhibit the Wi Fi signal.  In my backyard I get my neighbors Wi Fi and not my own. How do I set up the airport express devices? Extend or Create? Each airport express currently is plugged into a Cat5e ethernet jack which connects to a switch which in turn connects to the Uverse Router. the TC is connected to the cat5 jack which connects to the Uverse Router in the basement, I am confused about extending, creating, maybe setting up roaming? Should the Airport Express Devices be connected to my ethernet network?? Please help!

    Leave the TC alone.
Close AirPort Utility if it is open.
Turn off one of the AirPort Express devices and work with just one for now. With the Express powered on, hold in the reset button on the device for 7-8 seconds and release. Then allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Connect the Express to the Ethernet wiring
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the 10.8.4 Mac, and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear. Just below that, click directly on AirPort Express.
AirPort Setup will open up automatically, take a minute to analyze the connection and then tell you that the Express will be configured to extend the Time Capsule network.
Enter a device name that you want to use.....AE1, or example....and click Next.
AirPort Setup will now tell you that the Express is being set up to extend using Ethernet.
When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.  That's it.
Check with a laptop in the general area near the Express to confirm that it is working.
Then, configure the other AirPort Express the same way, starting with a Hard Reset, and using a different device name.....AE2, for example..... to keep things straight.

  • Do I need Time Capsule for my back up needs?

In my office, I have an iMac 24" 10.5.5. My secretary uses a PC and the server is a PC. At home, I use my Macbook, and my wife and kids each have laptops (4 of them total).
I want to make sure I 'back up' everything properly at the office and at home. Is there a way to backup both onto a single deal like Time Capsule? Or do I have to have two separate units? Is Time Capsule a wireless backup, or does it have to be connected to the computer you want to backup?
    Help!
    Bob

The Time Capsule is not really meant to used as a portable device, so it would have to be kept in a single location. Presumably this single location would be at your office where your iMac is. The only problem with one location is that your MacBook would only backed up when (or if) it's at your office. And I don't know if that happens and/or if you're away from your office for extended periods would that be acceptable (to not have a backup during that time).
Both computers could backup to one Time Capsule assuming there is enough disk space to do so and I'm unaware of how large the hard drives are that you have in each computer. And the Time Capsule can backup devices over both wired and wireless connections.

  • BACKUP my Time Capsule - HELP PLS

My time capsule is all connected through WIFI but i now want the first backup done via ethernet cable. Can this be done?

    Can this be done?
Not without completely re-configuring the settings on the Time Capsule again. Then you will have to re-configure yet again after the back up to return the device to your current settings.
Given the opportunities for mistakes, it might be best to leave well enough alone and allow extra time for the wireless backup.
Keep the Time Capsule and your computer relatively close to the wireless router to insure a good wireless signal and let the backup run overnight if necessary.

  • Time Capsule Help

I have purchased a time Capsule.
Set it up for the first time.
After much fiddling Time Machine has finally found the hard drive.
I now have a Time Machine Error: - "The backup disk image could not be created"
    Any ideas?

Yes, that is how you setup the TC as a router so you can have multiple computers or just one if that's all you have.
The router is also called the "Gateway" by most Internet providers.
Check your paperwork they sent you. It should list the Gateway which is the same as the router address.
