Need Time Estimate for Rendering Movie in iDVD

Hello.
I am a brand new Mac user and have recently finished a 45 min. movie in iMovie. I simply want to get this movie onto a DVD so that I can share it with friends and also watch it on a TV. I'm running into trouble, though.
I've gone through the process of importing the movie into iDVD, and have selected an option that reads "One step iDVD from Movie" from the File menu of iDVD. iDVD then went through and compressed the images in the movie, but has been "encoding audio" for the past 3 or 4 hours. Is this normal given the length of the movie? I'm not sure at this point if the program has simply stopped responding (I checked the Activity Monitor, and it DOES say that iDVD is not responding, however the computer itself seems to be working -- the drive is spinning and the fan is on). Or is there a better way to get my movie onto a DVD? I just read about the DVD image in another thread, so perhaps that was the right way to go about this?
I am doing this on a new 2GHz Macbook with 1GB RAM.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for responding, Sue.
You were right. I let iDVD run overnight and this morning it had created a DVD with VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders. Now, I just have to figure out whether this DVD will automatically play in a TV's DVD player (and also how to get it so that Winodws machines can view the video).
If anyone happens to know the answers to these questions, replies will be much appreciated. I'm not a movie-making or an apple afficiondo by any means.
Thanks again, Sue, for your quick reply.

  • Project Time estimate for SAP BI

    Hi Experts,
Can somebody please give me the time estimate for SAP BI project.
I am supposed to give effort analysis for BI implementation project.
    Thanks in Advance.

If you know the scope of the project you can give rough estimate. Scoping gives you idea about number of Business process to be mapped in BI, number of reports required, criticality of report. The timing will alos depend upon the standard /customized content and enhancement done in source system. If there are independent business process you can reduce the implementation time by increaing the resources for the project.
If you want to get idea about time check the ASAP methodology and see how much time you need for each step of project plan. Roughly you will get the time.

  • Time Estimate for creating a new Discoverer Report

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to estimate time required to create a new Discoverer Report?
It would be great if anyone give me a template / tool for calculating the time estimate..I know, its a manager's job, but I am supposed to give this time estimate for a report.
The requirement is, to convert Apps standard Invoice Aging Report into Discoverer Report. As far as I know, this is much complex report in Apps.
    Thanks!
    Yogini

    Hi Yogini,
I’ve just looked at the ‘Invoice Aging Report’, and it shouldn’t be too difficult to convert into a Discoverer Report.
The time scales really depend on the following:
-whether the Discoverer Report has been fully spec’d out by the customer.
Sometimes it’s not a matter of just copying a standard Apps report into Discoverer, as they can always be improved on. It’s best to get the customer to specify exactly what they want on paper first, such as any additional columns, sorts, what parameters etc. Creating a ‘Discoverer Business Requirement Form’ could come in handy, to capture all of this information from the customer, hopefully avoiding them giving you the run around.
-if the EUL has all the required items for the report
An item required in the report might not exist in the EUL. If this is the case, do you need to go through Change Control to get it put in? How long would this take?
-how quickly can get the report into a TEST instance for the customer to test before signing off the change to go in LIVE. Sometimes Customers can hold this process up, so give yourself a couple of days.
So the time you give really depends on how comfortable you feel with the module (AP) and the actual creation of Discoverer Reports. It obviously also depends on your business processes which can always slow things down.
As for the report, I’ve actually made a report very similar for the Transactions Age Debt (AR). It could help you a bit.
To calculate the Days Overdue you could use a Calculation below:
    SYSDATE-Payment Schedules.Due Date
To calculate the 1 - 30 Days you could use a Calculation with a case statement below.
CASE WHEN Days Overdue BETWEEN 0 AND 30 THEN Balance Due ELSE TO_NUMBER(NULL) END
Otherwise no Time Estimated Calculation form… But hope the info will help.
    Cheers,
    Lance

  • Time interval for contoured move

I have a interpolator and it output the interpolated data with time interval 1ms. When I do the experiment using stepper motor controlled by 7344 (contoured move). the time interval is much bigger the 1ms, resulting in very low velocity. How to solve this problem? Increasing the time interval of interpolator? Is there anyone has any ideas? Thanks a lot!

In contouring mode you can set the time interval for the position buffer in the Configure Buffer function. Here is the parameter description:
Requested Interval (10 ms) is additional data for the Position
buffer type. The Position buffer type requires a Requested Interval parameter,
and indicates the time between contouring data points in milliseconds. For all
other buffer types, the Requested Interval parameter is ignored.
The controller uses the closest value it can that is greater than
or equal to the interval value you requested. Your time interval must be an even
multiple of the PID rate. Refer to the description for the Actual
    Interval parameter for more information.
When used with Breakpoint or High-Speed
Capture, Requested Interval indicates how often, in
milliseconds, the onboard data is updated from the hardware, and the value is a
whole number. Please note that 10 ms is the fastest interval that you can set. If your data is sampled with a 1 ms time interval and you want to use the 10 ms time interval with your 7344 you simply should decimate your contouring data array by copying every 10th value to your contouring position array.

  • Best quality for SD movie into iDVD

I just finished creating a movie in iMovie '09. It was originally recorded with a Sony 8mm camera and passed through a Sony DV camera into my MacBook.
I've added the titles, transitions, chapter marks, etc. The movie is about 50 minutes long.
What is the best way to get it into iDVD and retain the best quality possible?
Should I "share to iDVD" or export as a QuickTime movie and then drag that into iDVD? Which settings would be the best for that choice?

You can actually convert them AFTER you've moved them in. When you captured them from the camera, they were saved into DV format. You can use mpegstreamclip (free download) to convert the DV clips into AIC or M-JPEG. If you do it correctly, the next time you start iMovie it will import the AIC-based clips in as well. Then, when iMovie reads them into your project and eventually renders the final movie, it will handle rendering better with AIC or M-JPEG clips as the source material.
I understand needing to work with what you have; it is a pain to go and replace each clip, clip by clip, with new clips. However, I have very little experience with DV. I've been using mpeg clips from a HDD camcorder for over a year and have only just started using DV as I am now also shooting with a higher-end DV camera for church projects.
I wish I could give you advice on how to export your project so iDVD can make the best DVD from it, but all of my work to date has been exported into movie files and played onto a HD TV through a laptop using QT or presentation software.

  • Need latest protocol for preparing movie for web in X

Hello. The basic problem is slow start on You Tube. My general question concerns preparing a movie for the web; not restricted to You Tube.
In FCP 7,  it was export using QT conversion, to Quick Time Movie using broadband Med or most recent settings, choose H264, choose custom size 16:9 HD 1280 x 720p, prepare head for internet streaming by choosing quick start ,
adjust settings, and save. Then, Open .mov (usually 1 G for 3 minutes) in QT, choose export to web, transcode, and send 50-100 Mb  M4V or sometimes MP4 to Host. No problem.
When I open an .mov prepared in X, the QT Player no longer allows the same options as it did when processing 7 movies.  Am I missing something? I click export to web with the new system and it just starts in coding.
I appreciate the automatic features of X, but am having problems with both stutter start and a few more upload problems that I see as temporary.
    Thx.  www.youtube.com/user/edwardshaw1
    Any suggestions most grateful for.
    Ed

Check your Applications > Utilities folder. That's where the OSX Installer moved Quicktime 7 (also known as Quicktime Player) when Quicktime X became the standard player. Your pro license should still be activated. If you don't find it there and you have a Snow Leopard (or earlier) installer disk, you can find QT7 in the Extras folder. Make sure you do NOT overwrite Quicktime X when you move or install QT7 (both are originally named "Quicktime Player" - but you can rename the older Quicktime Player to "Quicktime Player 7" before moving it into your Applications folder.)
The problem with MPEG Streamclip and other "third party" conversion software (like ClipWrap and Smart Converter) is they use FFMPEG open source x.264 codecs. Apple's H.264 codec is superior (arguably, marginally better... but better.)
YouTube will "respect" your upload if it's already done well (to their specifications.) Otherwise, their software will recompress it.
In QT7Pro, you settings should be:
    Compression type: H.264
Frame Rate 30 (or 29.97) fps  (29.97 is the "true" 30...) [Even if your project is 720/60p - YT wants 30]
    Keyframes: Automatic
    Frame Reordering : OFF!
Data Rate: (I'll get back to this)
Optimized for: Streaming (only allowed with Best Quality encoding setting)
Quality: (if you specify a data rate, you only can use "High" -- and you *should* specify a data rate)
    Encoding: Best Quality (Multi-pass)
    Audio:
    Format: AAC
Channels: Stereo (don't think it matters)
    Rate: 44.1KHz
    [show advanced settings]
Render settings (doesn't matter - normal is fine)
    MPEG-4 AAC Encoder Settings:
I use Variable bit rate ; Sound Quality at 128 - 160kbps (about 2/3's to Best on the slider)
(you can use a constant bit rate - i think YT allows up to about 192kbps, but I don't "push it")
If you fall within these parameters, YT is not likely to futz with your vid, you'll get what you put up.
    Now, for the Data Rates:
For 1080/30p (29.97p) I've found that 4Mbits/sec is adequate for most video (most of mine are tutorials). If you have sections of your video that have something like trees blowing in the wind shot against a bright blue sky -- you will definitely need a much higher data rate (check your transitions too, they can be subject to some nasty blocking/artifacting when highly compressed). To figure out how much, take a 5 second clip* of the highest action and transcode it at - start at 12.5Mbits/sec (or 12,500 kbits/sec) - and see if you notice any "blocking" - if you do, crank up the data rate another 500-1000kbits/sec (or more if it's pretty bad). If you don't — try optimizing your compression by reducing the data rate until blocking appears. You shouldn't need to exceed 18Mbits/sec... Upload your 5 sec clip to youtube and see if it works out okay. If so, just delete it. Transcode your video to those specs and upload to youtube. Remember your settings - they'll serve you well.
    For 720 video, 3200kbits/sec is a good starting point.  480 - 1500 kbits/sec. and so on...
Bandwidth (aka data rate) is **key** to good video. The more compressed your video is, the more YT likes it. The more YT likes your video, the more likely they'll leave it alone and just pass it straight through. (I have seen them pass through data rates up to 18Mbits/sec. Just follow their rules.)
[*In Quicktime 7 Pro, you can set an in and out point anywhere in your video by typing 'i' for the in point and 'o' for the out. Copy (Command-C) the selection. Command N to create a new player and paste - and you have your 5 (or whatever) second clip.]

  • How can I reduce my time required for rendering?

    Hello,
I guess I'm used to an editing environment where I never had to really render in order to review my most recent edit. I do miss that.
Right now it seems that even for the most minor of insert edits and the like I am asked to render my media in order to view the sequence in video, as opposed to just still frames.
    Am I missing something here?
    What settings can I change?
I don't need high rez playback just some way to avoid having such a very high percentage of my time in the edit process spent rendering.
    Thanks,
    matt

Thank you. I was forced to change platforms, to FCP at the very last minute. I appreciate your help.
I wish this forum had the capability for screen shots. That is so much more efficient.
These clips were created by my color grader yesterday, apparently in QuickTime, and the compressor is listed as H.264. The rate is listed at 5.5 megs/second, 1920 x 1080 aspect ratio, shot in 24p.
My sequence setting is at 1920 x 1080, but is set at HDTV 1080i.
I wonder if the interlaced/progressive difference between the two is important.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Size/time limit for AppleTV movie files?

Scenario: I have a few hundred iMovie projects that I want to convert to AppleTV movies. My first project was just under two hours, and it converted fine. The second project was just under three hours total (33GB .DV file), and it crashed at 99% completion on two separate tries, giving me a cryptic error message (15+ hours processing time each attempt -- aargh). I am using the latest version of QuickTime Pro to convert the projects, and not running anything else during the conversions.
Right now the only solution that seems to work is to split anything over 2 hours into two parts, which seems kind of pointless and diminishes the advantage of the whole AppleTV concept in the first place. Granted most of the projects are around 2 hours, so most of the time it won't be an issue, just on the longer iMovies.
Anyone know if there is a size/time limit to files that you can convert? Would it be better to import the .DV files into iTunes and try to convert them there instead? Or is there a way to do it from iMovie (I am using the original iMovie HD version from a few years back). Thanks.

Thanks Winston & Alley Cat for your insights -- I figured I would just do a straight QT conversion to the proper specs and did manage to find it by digging around a bit. In Export(Share) / QuickTime / Expert Settings there is a preset for AppleTV buried deep in there.
Sorry, I feel like a bonehead for not being able to locate this option earlier. I thought QuickTime Pro was one of the few apps that could only do this conversion, thinking that my version of iMovie HD (circa 2006) was too old to have the AppleTV preset. (Must have been added during one of the QuickTime updates.)
Anyways, success to report. I tried re-converting the file (2 hours 47 minutes length) and it worked this time. The total conversion time was actually quite a bit faster than QT Pro plus it takes one less step now. I don't know why it is so much faster than QT Pro, but it compressed to the right specs H.264 AAC codec and aspect ratio.
BTW, I really, really like my AppleTV. Not perfect, but it sure is cool and everyone who comes over and sees it is kind of blown away by what this little box can do.

  • HELP!!!! I NEED BACKUP FILES FOR A MOVIE THAT THIS KID DELETED!!!

I'm in a high school class that is called E@ST. (Environmental and Spatial Technology) This kid got on the IMac and deleted this movie of a kid he hates. It was in IMovie. Is there any way I can find backup files or a ghost of it to restore? It was a class project.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
This is a little complicated any you'll need the IT staff to be onside to achieve it.
Boot from an External Hard Drive - this reduces use of the internal drive. Any use of the Internal Hard Drive degrades the chance of recovering the iMovie project.
Obtain and install Data Rescue II Demo - this free Demo version will at least tell you if recovery is possible.
Use Data Rescue II (full version) to recover erased files to the external drive - again this minimizes use of the Internal Hard Drive.
Copy the data back to the Internal only when you are confident you have recovered the missing files.
Ideally your IT Staff have automatic back-up procedures in place and so should be able to restore the data to your accounts if you tell them the situation.
Let us know how you get on.

  • Do I need Time Capsule for my back up needs?

In my office, I have an iMac 24" 10.5.5. My secretary uses a PC and the server is a PC. At home, I use my Macbook, and my wife and kids each have laptops (4 of them total).
I want to make sure I 'back up' everything properly at the office and at home. Is there a way to backup both onto a single deal like Time Capsule? Or do I have to have two separate units? Is Time Capsule a wireless backup, or does it have to be connected to the computer you want to backup?
    Help!
    Bob

The Time Capsule is not really meant to used as a portable device, so it would have to be kept in a single location. Presumably this single location would be at your office where your iMac is. The only problem with one location is that your MacBook would only backed up when (or if) it's at your office. And I don't know if that happens and/or if you're away from your office for extended periods would that be acceptable (to not have a backup during that time).
Both computers could backup to one Time Capsule assuming there is enough disk space to do so and I'm unaware of how large the hard drives are that you have in each computer. And the Time Capsule can backup devices over both wired and wireless connections.

  • TS2180 Need a resolution for multiplexor error during burns?

Need a solution for Multiplexor Errors during  iDVD disc burning process?

    Hi
Multiplexing error is a very complex problem due to many things (long long list following) - one common but not obvious reason is that material on the iDVD menu goes outside the TV-Safe area (or just touching it).
So first - turn on TV-Safe area and move any object well inside of this.
Wide screen stretched - usually (as I think) it is due to making a 4x3 movie in a 16x9 wide-screen project OR the other way around. This forces one to on flat-screen TV (or other) set the presenting view right - My has 4x3, wide-screen, zoom and auto-wide-screen and I have to switch this by my remote for some DVD I've made "wrong" way.
Now my long long list on Multiplex Error

    Chuck, Chicago 2/7/2009.
Back again. Here is what I have found to work. I also have and use a LaCie DVD-R/RW DL external drive and a LaCie external hard drive as well. Since yesterday I have tried a few ways to burn a themed iDVD project having four 56 minute movies on it, amounting to 226 minutes onto a DVD DL disc, capacity 240 minutes. Apple tech support really didn't know what to do but gave me a very good tip. I had two options left. Apple tech support's tip was to try disc image. One of the replies on a thread with this subject said not to, but my experience today is good. Put your project onto "Burn to disc image," under "iDVD, file." Yesterday encoding took me 23 1/2 hours. Overnight for iDVD disc image, encoding took 21 1/2 hours (again) while I slept. This morning I tried to copy/burn disc image to a DVD with Roxio Toast 7, and it stopped near the end of the burn with some kind of "error" message. So then I tried Utilities> Disc Utility> Burn icon, and followed it through. Be sure to click the DVD DL drive in the window "Burn disc in.". I had one other problem though. At the end of a 46 minute copy, it started to verify, and at the end of verify it rejected the burn. So I tried again, and when "verify" appeared, I clicked on "Skip." The disc finished burning and is doing fine and well. A long and tortuous process, but at last something works. I made several additional copies using Disc Utility. Best wishes. Chuck, Chicago.

FROM Bev. (Not a 'guy' but I will answer!)
First, I do not think that mixing wide-screen and standard makes a difference in iDVD.
Second, you should use a better brand of DVD disk. Also, many of us have experienced fewer problems on playback with DVD-R disks. Recommended brands here are Verbatim, Maxell and Taiyo Yuden. Memorex and TDK are not consistent and may not give you a correct burn. They apparently have fewer layers in the composition of the disk. I have always used Verbatim DVD-R disks and have not had any burn problems.
Also, choose a slower burn speed, 4x or less.
Third, to determine if the iDVD project will burn properly, create a disk image file (from within iDVD, go File->Save as Disk Image) and test it. Mount the disk image and then open DVD Player (in Applications) and view your project. If it plays correctly, you can then burn the actual DVD disk from the disk image file using Disk Utility.

I did everything I've seen suggested, but a friend (who used to be an Apple Genius) suggested that I do a safe reboot (by holding down the shift key until you see the spinning gear on gray background, then release, then restart when your start-up screen appears).
It worked, and I got a clean burn from iDVD.
Hopefully this can help other people.

Well, I finally got it, and it was odd enough to post here incase anyone looks this topic up again. Many things were tried, including burning the unedited film, the edited film without titles and chapter markers, abbreviating the chapter markers in case length was the issue (remember the old iMovie used to truncate them when moving to iDVD?). In the process, I noticed that one, and only one, chapter marker was on the same line as the title marker. All the others were on the line above. The only way I seemed able to change that was to clip a few seconds of film. After that last clip, the offending marker took a place on the line above, as were all the others. That run published, compiled completely and burned. That's one for the books.

To add my experience with Multiplex Errors using iDVD (7.0.4), I recently created two iDVD projects
Video from both passed from FCE 4.01 with chapters
One project worked fine in creating disk image file
    The other gave Multiplex Errors
I tried suggestions to remove special characters and no chapter marks at beginning, but nothing worked
Note that I've used iDVD for dozens of projects and this is first time I've run into Multiplex Errors
Anyway, for problem project, I tried an experiment where I removed all chapters in FCE and passed to new iDVD project
    This time multiplex errors gone
So had something to do with chapters
So now I tried numerous experiments to remove individual chapters and try again creating disk image with new iDVD project
After numerous tries, I was able to narrow problem down to 1 "Bad" chapter mark
That is, when I left the "bad" chapter in my FCE project and passed to iDVD, iDVD gave multiplex error
When I removed "bad" chapter mark (and others in), no multiplex error
As a final experiment, I moved "bad" chapter mark about 5-10 sec's beyond original point and passed to iDVD, the multiplex errors now magically went away and I was able to finally create my disk image.
I have no idea why this worked, but thought I'd mention here in case someone else runs into similar problem.

In addition to Bengt's fine advice, burning errors can occur if you have located any of your menu buttons wholly or partly outside of the safe TV viewing area. Go to your main project menu, then click on View/Show TV Safe Area, to check. Drag into the safe viewing area any buttons that are outside the safe viewing area.
    Russ One - suggest this
Multiplex Error-There was an error during muxing preparation
One thing that worked for me was to export the video w/o chapter markers as a self contained movie (thereby not loosing the edits & etc). Then make a new FCE project and import that movie into a new sequence and add the chapter markers. I've used "-", "&" and "," with no problem in the chapter names. Removing the markers or exporting without them did solve the problem but renaming them with just numbers 1,2,3....5, did not solve the problem and since this problem seems to happen with with iMovie as well, it would suggest the problem is in the video or audio and in combination with the chapter markers iDVD just can't handle it. The only other possibility is that both iMovie and FCE share the same or similar chapter marker code that some how is corrupting the markers.
    Summary - What to try
    1. Chapters
    • Only A to Z and 0 to 9 in chapter title
    • No Chapter mark at very beginning of movie
    • No Chapter mark in or within 2 seconds from any transition in movie
    2. TV-safe area for buttons (no one outside this)
    3. Safe re-boot
    4. No other external devices connected - that are not needed
    SDMacuser adds to this
    • On #4 ... No ext. devices. Some think this applies mainly to ext. FW. Not the case. Also applies to ext. USB2 as well (not to mention flash drives too).
Do not leave 3rd party devices / camera / camcorder plugged in unless it is being used with iDvd's One Step process. Certain web cams can trigger this also (especially ones with added features like LED light/s that draw additional power from the FW or USB bus).
    5. Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-up hard disk
    6. Make a DiskImage first - reduces where problem originates
    7. Trash iDVD pref. file
    8. Make a new iDVD project
    9. Movies in project with same aspect ratio e.g. 4x3 or 16x9
    10. No other programs/applications running during iDVD process. e.g. Internet, screen & energy savers

  • Time Constraints for objects and relationships

    Hi,
How to set up time constraints for objects and relationships under Org Management?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
If you need time constraint for subtype A002 then you have to define it over here.
Usually for all standard objects this table gets populated by SAP. But in case you want something which is not there in this table and is as per the client requirement, you can create.
