Need to add description to iphoto book

I trying to publish 200+ pics to iphoto book. I have added descriptions to the photos and now wish these to appear under the revelant photos in the book. Is this possible?

The Folio theme has title and description fields assocaited with each photo. However, the theme's most populous page is only 2 photos per page. And the comments don't appear automatically. However, the titles/file names do. So you could move the comments to the titles field and then create the book. That would put the comments in the title field. It will only take 2 lines of text.
You could create custom pages with a 3rd party image editor that supports layers or Pages. You can convert those pages to image files and use them in iPhoto on a page that uses an image for the background. This way you can have as many photos and comments as you'd like on one page. This is book # 13 and I've not encountered this problem before. I am dragging photos into the sourse pane but they are not imported. I have other books w/ over 700 pics (not all used) but this has only 300+ so far. I've copied the book to a pdf and it looks as if I'll have to redo it unless there's another solution.

I'm am having difficulty editing text in the iphoto book project. I have a text box that is pre-populated with text. I can edit the text once, then if I need to change something, it won't let me delete anything, only add to it. Anyone else having this problem?

You should be able to double click in the text box and add or delete text. First make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that doesn't help launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos, create a book and check to see if the same problem persists. Post back with the results.

You can make the collages easily if you have iWork. Just open a letter sized page in landscape mode and drag the photos onto the page, rotate and postiion as necessary. Then do a Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save PDF to iPhoto to get a 200 dpi jpeg version of the Pages page into iPhoto. From there you can add it to your book and use a blank page with the option to have an image as the backbround.
If you have a 3rd party image editor that supports layers you can create the collage with it.

The PDF will be too large to email to your parents - copy it to a USB stick or burn it as CD or DVD and send it as a letter. Or upload it to a server for download, your Dropbox, etc.

Major help needed! Saving iPhoto book as a working file

I am a student teacher and I am teaching a lesson on Friday that uses iPhoto book. My cooperating teacher has asked me to create an iPhoto book template for the students to use to make the activity easier for them. I have created the template book but realized I have no idea how to save it as a working file that can be transferred from one computer to the students' laptops.
I know there are some tutorials from a user named Old Toad for this; however, I am not typically a mac user, so I found those directions sort of confusing. I need very clear and explicit directions on how to do this if I can. Thanks so much.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The Photobooks are templates.
The only way to move a book to another computer is to move the Library that contains it. This is because the book is an entry in the database and there is no ay to share it.

I have some additional fonts that would add a lot to the overall appearance of my i Photo book but cannot find a method for installing them into iPhoto.

Use the Edit ➙ Shot Fonts menu option to bring up the Fost selection pane.
From there you can select any font you have installed on your Mac.

Need to add metadata to a CS4 book

I've created an InDesign book and need to add metadata.
The tutorial I've been using says to "open the Content Source Document or the Master Document in your book panel" but I can't see any option like that in the book panel drop down menu (see attached images). I'm using CS4.
Am I looking in the wrong place?

the one with the icon to the left that looks like a document feeding three other documents is the content source document. anything done to it will wag style sheets and other items as dictated by your syncing options in your book.

Help. Need iPhoto Book Specs / Anyone who has order a book or knows?

I'm getting ready to scan my color photos and then place an order for a iPhoto book. I'll set my scanner to decrease or enlarge (75%..100%.. 200%) for whatever size I need. I need to know the specs the photos should be scanned at for max quality and / or the order requirements.
300 DPI CMYK TIFF? (regular offset printer specs)
72 DPI RGB JPEG?
Or other?
Does it matter if it's a TIFF or JPEG? Tiff's can be uncompressed so perhaps better quality, but larger file size to send when ordering a book.
Is there a max about of total megs the book can be or not be for it to be accepted when ordering? Is there a max meg size that I need to stay under for each image?
I'm not looking for a long theory on dpi and ppi, I know all that, just need to know the requirments for these iPhoto books. I'm almost certain it's the first, offset printer specs. Just want to double check before I scan.

Yes. 300 DPI is the standard for printing on an offset press. So is CMYK. I'm positive the printing company that Apple is using is converting the .pdf files to a CMYK profile that matches their printing press. This is the only way for them to make the 4 color plates. If you look at an sRGB image on screen it may look great but when printed in CMYK, as the books are printed, it might look darker.

To test this, open an sRGB image in PS and go Image > Mode > Convert to profile. Select US Sheet Fed Coated or US Web Coated. You can see how the color shifts. Usually CMYK is darker than RGB. Dark details in an RGB image that looks acceptable can get muddy when printed on an offset printing press in CMYK.
From what I've learned in graphic arts, printers suggest if you're concerned about color shifting, then do the image correction in CMYK and placing images in your document in CMYK. That way you have a better representation of what the final image will look like once it's printed. (aside monitor calibration) This is the standard procedure that I'm familiar with when working with images that will be printed in brochures and catalogs and so on.
Questions:
How did you find out that the images MUST be sRGB?
What would happen if you used a corrected CMYK image?
Did you compare your actual sRGB image to the final printed book and see if there was a color shift?
The reason for my concern is that I have some old photos that have bad shadow detail and color shifted with age. In sRGB they look okay but when they get printed on the CMYK press I'm concerned they might get muddy in dark areas. This is why I wanted to correct them in CMYK, get them to look good, then place them in the book.

Thanks for the reply. My particular use of iPhoto is for documents that I have photographed from archives, libraries, and other repositories across the US and Europe. For each one I have added a complete citation and notes. I am so relieved to hear that all my years of work on this will migrate with the new app!
